[My] Life in Wisconsin

Rats, and Other "Weathered" Things...

This, just in! Pulaski HS Musical Postponed; Until March 1

Good Morning All...

Are you sufficiently snowed in (and "chili"), are you basking in warmth; OR, are you cleaning up after yesterdays terrible storms? As many of you know, I DO hate thunderstorms... (they scare the bejeezus out of me), and so I feel awful for those of you that have taken quite the pounding from Mother Natures fury... I pray that you are safe...

My little forecast this morning; pretty much like yesterdays... SNOW...HEAVY AT TIMES...WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THIS EVENING. TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 10 TO 16 INCHES ARE ANTICIPATED BY THE TIME THE SNOW DIMINISHES LATE TONIGHT. GUSTY EAST WINDS WILL PRODUCE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE POSSIBLE AT TIMES.

The above picture was taken a few days ago. It was so nice out~ "warm" if you will~ and I had raked a bit and put some straw down. I tried to remove all the tangled 'leftovers' from between the rocks and the house. (Never really succeeding, but 'getting there' anyway)... Yesterday, when I had returned home, this is what it had started to look like...

.

.

.

It had just begun as a bit of "sneet", and then quickly changed to flurries...
.
.
.
.
Weird that some of my "sneet" was actually rectangular!?
Look closely at that... I have never seen that before...

.

.

I had taken my comingled recyclables to the Village yesterday morning, not wanting to hang onto all of those things til next week friday. And that darned recycling center had MOVED! Found the new place; and dropped off my three bags of recyclables. I keep these bags, when full, out in the pumphouse until I bring them in to the center...

...Out there, I have the water pump and the 10 foot pit covered with wood, and with insulation over that. I have the warming light hanging down in there to keep my H2O from freezing up, (although it has not been cold enough lately to freeze, it is just a precaution)... So imagine, as I opened the old milkhouse door, to see this sight...

.

.

My well~placed insulation strewn about and quite literally destroyed...

.

.

As I stood there, still absorbing what I'd seen, two critters emerged from that insulation....

.

.

Ugly personified... (I should dare to say "Fugly")?
Black ratzzzz....
www.breedingcentresharja.../Rodents.htm
.
.
But I KNOW what to do for them...
hehehe... (They are now well~fed vermin of the RAT species)!

.

.

Isn't it funny how seeing a mouse will make me jump a little; they startle me, but I am NOT afraid of them. But seeing a rat is so revolting and disgusting to me. And being that this was the closest I have ever come to these putrid excuses for vermin, seeing them scurry actually paralyzed me... & all I could do was whimper, but not move... 'Til they climbed up the wall and disappeared overhead...

Miss Punk had been playing up by the house (75 yards away), and somehow had heard those strangled sounds from me...

.

.

Dropping her stick, she came running to me... I remain HIGHLY impressed by her!
(Needless to say, I took this picture well AFTER everything had moved; including my legs)...

.

.

Even though those contractors bags are clear, I kicked those bags before I dared to even touch them; (and am thinking it a good thing that I had gloves on too). Oh how completely disgusting to me. (And I do realize that some of you must keep these "things" as pets~ I dutifully apologize; for me there is nothing more entirely creepy in this whole world)... enough of this for now though...

.

.

Even my mangled backyard is looking a little prettier with a bit of snow on it. (hehehe)

.

.

But those pics were all taken yesterday... BEFORE...

The heaviest snow started to fly around midnight; (and it still is coming down BIGTIME). It is predicted to do so through the whole day and evening too. Almost all churches have cancelled services for today; some as early as yesterday afternoon. Guess nobody is going anywhere, it would be "STOOPID" to even try! I have seen NO traffic out here, (not even a snowplow), since I have been up. (And I am thinking that my Sunday Green Bay Press Gazette is not out in that box either)... No, I will NOT be running out there to check on it either! hehehe

I have taken a few pictures already this morning... The snow is quite beautiful even as it continues to come down~ and at times it flies straight across my yard...

I have more pics to get into this machine now. I spent almost all day yesterday getting my computer to function better than the snails pace it had been crawling at... I sometimes HATE these things, and am always afraid I will not figure out what is wrong. Yet, somehow I always do, (I thank the Lord for small, and modern, miracles)...

I shall post another blog later and let you all see what is happening in my little corner of the Arctic Circle!

Yes, Roberta and Master Gabriel are warm, safe, and asleep, upstairs.

'Til then stay safe and warm!

XOXO
Anne
