No "Bravery" Here...

Good Morning to All!

I am wondering if any of you know what kind of tree this is? It had little berry~like 'cones' on it. I took this pic on one of our trips down to Froedtert. And yes, Caseys pancreas has given her NO FURTHER PROBLEMS! All that is left to do is go back for her recheck appointment down at Froedtert... (er, I mean I HOPE that is all anyway)...

Casey and her bridesmaids, maid of honor, etc will be going to look at dresses this morning! She is ever so excited too! (And yes, as I am excited and proud FOR her/them)!

We had an amazing day yesterday, (even though it might have begun a bit harsh for me)... hehehe The weather was perfect, although a bit windy; (and while I cut lawn I found I was holding my breath more often than not to keep from inhaling those cuttings). Still I kept sneezing later... "God Bless Me!"

A few of you remarked upon my 'bravery' yesterday as I had tried to figure out what the heck had the dogs so very upset in the early morning. I assure you it is not bravery when you have one large dog with/by you, and another almost as large one that can be quickly loosed should it ever come to that. (Oh yeah, and maybe a few of those Elmer Fudd guns that are quite close by too)!

I have never had a real problem with 'people' out here, (with the exception of the garage door that fell on my head almost 2 years ago)... Now a wild turkey, a whitetail, and a whole assorted menagerie of bunnies, gophers, chipmunks, skunks, fox, squirrels, possums, woodchucks etc are usually the culprits out here. (None of which will actually hurt a person unless they are ill, or too very startled).

Being as it is getting so nice outside, I decided it was time for Miss Punk to have her pool out, and began to fill it for her...

.

.

She loves the water, but takes offense to the hose as the water runs...
.
.
That darned hose shoots the water up her nose, and down her throat if she catches it just right...
.
.
.
But she loves it none~the~less!
(And yes, straight from the well, that water IS very cold)!
42 degrees year round...

.

Only one small setback yesterday. (And one that, had it been captured on tape, would have won Americas Funniest Videos too)... The phone rang inside, and I had forgotten to grab the cordless out with me. As Punk and I were running into the house she tripped me on the way up the steps~ (these entrance steps are concrete). We get completely tangled up; we tumble up, and then right back down those steps! And yeah, I swear she broke my big toe on my left foot too. (It does NOT move one bit today)! Y~O~W~C~H!!!

.

.

This is before it was done swelling and turning colors...
Pretty nasty feet eh? From years of abuse going barefoot in all kinds of weather over all kinds of nasty terrain, rocks etc...

.

.

.

At the bottom of those steps this darned dog and I both just looked at each other, (trying to figure out what the heck had just happened)! Me laughing, crying, (and maybe cussing a bit as I grabbed my poor toe), we did get in the house, just not in time to talk to whomever had called! (That's OK, I always figure if it is important they will call back).

So back outside we went. Across the road, the neighboring farm was harvesting their first crop of hay already... Punk, a bit upset by all the commotion. was fascinated by it too. She sat on the sidewalk and barked at the tractos, the self~unloading wagons and at every new wagon that pulled in that field.

.

.

They removed 20+ wagons full yesterday...
A very nice start to filling up the haymow for next winter.

Now on a more somber and vitally important note. My sister Mary had called. (As you already know, Mary has outlived her own Grade 3, Stage IIIc breast cancer). Anyway, Marys boss lady had gone in for a mammogram a while ago, her doctor had called her saying they wanted to do a biopsy on a suspicious spot that had shown up. As it turned out, she had her surgery, and woke up to the doctor saying that it was a cyst, apx 2 cm big, completely harmless.

Fast forward a few more days... The surgeon calls her after all the lab reports are back in. Her so~called harmless 'cyst' is malignant, AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT SCHEDULE HER ANOTHER APPOINTMENT UNTIL NEXT TUESDAY! I feel so badly for this lady, but am happy that she has Mary there to be leaning on a bit also.

We have all seen the jokes...

.

Training for a mammogram...
etc etc etc...

.

.

Yet even knowing that 1 in every 8 women will go through this at one point or another, many of us still have an "it won't happen to me" attitude about this disease.

If you think along those lines, please get your head out of the sand, get off the computer, and go schedule your yearly mammogram.

To break it down to my blog alone...

  • I have 130+ friends on here, MOST of them are women...
  • That means that over 15 of you WILL be dealing with this disease. (Not too good of odds, eh)?
  • And I promise you that it will come whether or not you have a mammogram.
  • Better to catch it early...
  • Better to find it yourself too.
  • Do your monthly self exams...
  • Question anything that seems to be even a bit "off" or odd.
  • And NEVER be afraid to question your doctor either.

That said, I hope you all are having a 'wunnaful' Wednesday!

Mid 80's again for here, but today/tonight with a chance of nasty weather too... ~~~(Storms, me no likey)!

XOXO
Anne
