My American Quandary. You Get To Pick!

If, (ok "when"), I post my articles on healthcare, do you want the comments to be open?

Yes, and I promise to comment.

Yes, but I make no promises to continue our friendship

No. Keep 'em closed. I cannot stand any potential arguments between friends.

No. Keep 'em closed so we can all fester about whether we like you or not.

Don't post anything about it at all. I could not care less about it.

Good Evening All;

OK.
Ever since last weekends fiasco regarding our National Health Care plan, I have received many comments.
.
.

I have since chosen to close off my comments on these blogs/posts.

Here is what I had copied to a few friends earlier this morning when I had decided just not to leave the political/healthcare comments open anymore. (And had hurt a few friends feelings in doing that also).  My apologies.

The following comment I had received made much sense to me.

________________

"First and foremost, I HATE politics. I am not going to go sink my head in the sand and ignore them either.
I just think it is so sad that people let politics ruin friendships.
Everyone is entitled to have an opinion and yes, everyone has the right to express them. The part I am uncomfortable with is when friendly banter turns to arguing, and arguing turns to mudslinging, and before you know it...you're no longer friends."

end quote.

________________

I never meant to ever take that chance with any of my friends!
(I am really not that shallow).

I have never made a friend, to simply discard them over a disagreement; and most especially a political opinion.
And yes, the gal from last weekend is still blocked.  (But as you have all read, my reasoning for that was deeper than mere politicking).

Please let me know your feelings on this delicate/yet
potentially volatile situation.

Love to all.

XOXO

Manitowoc Family -What the HELL is wrong with People? Caution: Sick

Profiles of Manitowoc family members in 'bizarre' sex abuse case(s)

Six members of a Manitowoc family have been charged with sex-related crimes during the past three years.

Here are profiles of the family matriarch, who has not been charged with any crime, and the six suspects.

******************

**** Kathryn Stites
Kathryn Stites, a Green Bay native, is a widow with five sons and one daughter, she told the Herald Times Reporter in a December 2004 article. Her husband, Thomas, died at age 42 from a brain tumor almost 20 years ago. She moved to Manitowoc in 1999 and soon became active in the community by helping build houses through Habitat for Humanity — eventually receiving her own house through the program. She also began attending church services at a Manitowoc church where her son, Jason Stites, was a trustee of the church's financial accounts.

Kathryn Stites often frequents the court appearances of her relatives. She has testified on behalf of her children and has spoken out in court from the public benches during a recent hearing regarding her son, Thomas. She also testified she told Thomas not to talk to detectives about an alleged sexual assault.

Kathryn Stites' phone call to her son, Michael, led to three felony-bail-jumping charges against her daughter-in-law, Charlene Stites, according to a criminal complaint. Kathryn Stites spoke about letters sent to Michael Stites, who was in the Manitowoc County Jail. A search of Michael's jail cell revealed three letters allegedly sent from Charlene. Charlene Stites previously was ordered to have no contact with Michael Stites.

In one of Carl Stites' cases, a victim admitted to a detective not originally providing all the details about a sexual assault because the victim was afraid of Kathryn Stites' reaction, according to a criminal complaint.

**** Charlene Stites
Charlene Stites, 43, formerly of Manitowoc, was employed by Brandt Buses, the company that transports children for the Manitowoc School District, for a month before she was charged with sexual assaulting a teenage girl. Her employment was terminated after her March 29 arrest on a repeated-sexual-assault-of-a-child charge.

Charlene Stites cleared a background check before she began her employment to drive a kindergarten bus route, district superintendent Mark Swanson said in early April.

Charlene Stites was scheduled for a plea hearing today.
She is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl with her husband, Michael Stites, between 2005 and 2008 — the latest time being in December.
Charlene Stites admitted to detectives she was involved in the assaults of the girl, according to a criminal complaint.

She also is charged with three counts of bail jumping after she allegedly sent her husband three letters to the Manitowoc County Jail. She was ordered to have no contact with her husband as terms of her $1,000 bail on the sexual assault charge.

Charlene Stites recently moved to Kimberly.

**** Michael Stites

Michael Stites was 27 years old when he sexually assaulted his children's babysitter three times in September 1998. He was sentenced to prison for eight years but spent about five years behind bars, the maximum amount under old laws, according to Assistant District Attorney Jerilyn Dietz.

Soon after his release, Michael Stites, 38, of Manitowoc, began sexually abusing two adolescent girls. The abuse stopped in 2008, and it was reported in early 2009.

The investigation into Michael Stites' sexual activity history uncovered accusations against other Stites family members that led to four arrests within four months.

When being questioned about the assaults, Michael Stites told the detective he had a problem and could not control himself.

Michael Stites pleaded guilty to felony crimes.
He awaits a Sept. 1 sentencing. He also awaits a Sept. 8 sentencing after his probation for the 1998 assaults was revoked in Brown County.
Dietz is arguing for a consecutive prison sentence between the two cases.

Michael Stites remains jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.

******************

**** Jason Stites
Jason C. Stites, 27, previously of Manitowoc, spent years as a trustee at a Manitowoc church until he was charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the church between Dec. 28, 2007, and Sept. 29, 2008.
Jason Stites also is charged with five sex-related felonies after he admitted to law enforcement he videotaped a teenage couple having sex at a hotel and at his apartment while he was chaperoning them between August and October 2008.

Jason Stites lives in New Berlin. He was released from the Manitowoc County Jail on a signature bond and is ordered to have no contact with anyone younger than age 18. An exception was made for incidental contact through his employment as a pizza delivery driver and when supervised at religious services.

******************

**** Thomas Stites
A court record search of Thomas M. Stites' criminal background indicates he is charged with the sexual assault of a 6-year-old girl between Dec. 18, 2004, and Jan. 1, 2005. However, juvenile records show sexual assault allegations from Kewaunee County, as discussed by attorneys, a judge, Thomas Stites and his mother, Kathryn Stites, in court.
Thomas Stites, 25, of Francis Creek, is considered mentally handicapped, his mother said in court, and receives Social Security disability funds to pay for his apartment and living expenses.

Thomas Stites' attorney has asked a judge to suppress statements Thomas Stites made to detectives after his arrest. The attorney claims Thomas Stites did not understand his Miranda rights because of his mental abilities and that Thomas Stites asked for lawyer.

Thomas Stites testified in court that he asked for a lawyer in his "own special way." He also told a judge he was not guilty of the "heinous" crime.

Detectives testified he did not ask for a lawyer during the interview.

Manitowoc County Circuit Patrick Willis is expected to make a decision about the statements Aug. 29.

Thomas Stites remains jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail. His trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 15.

******************

**** Carl Stites
Carl J. Stites, 21, of Manitowoc, was teaching a minor girl to play the piano when he molested her about four years ago. He was placed on probation and has nine months of jail time that can be imposed at the judge's discretion after he pleaded no contest to child enticement Oct. 10, 2008.
Carl Stites was sentenced to three months in jail after he was convicted of child enticement. He sexually abused an adolescent boy from November 2004 to June 2006. Three additional months in jail also can be imposed at the judge's discretion.

******************

**** Adam Stites
Adam M. Stites was 8 years old when his father began sexually assaulting the babysitter. Adam Stites was watching a movie when one of the assaults occurred and his father, Michael Stites, yelled at him to look away until the young boy fell asleep, according to a Brown County criminal complaint.

Adam Stites, 18, of Manitowoc, is convicted of three counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault in Manitowoc and Kewaunee counties. He also pleaded guilty to a felony sex-related crime and entered into a deferred judgment agreement. If Adam Stites successfully complies with the agreement, the charge will be dismissed.

Although he originally was not sentenced to jail, he received 90 days in jail after he was caught viewing pornography on a school computer, according to court records.

Adam Stites was tried as an adult because he was 17 years old when the offenses were reported in 2008. However, the assaults happened in 2005, soon after his father, Michael Stites, was released from prison. He was 14 years old during the sexual assaults. After he was sentenced, he told investigators his father instigated and critiqued the assaults.

Favre officially vilified in Green Bay aka "Benedict Brett"

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=cr-favrereaction081809&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
GREEN BAY, Wis. –

Maybe Brett Favre(notes) lost the keenest segment of the Green Bay Packers fan base long ago.

Maybe he lost them when every summer began to orbit around him, and every roster decision was applauded or disparaged based on how it impacted No. 4.

Maybe he lost them in one tumultuous offseason after another, when his emotional whims became reason enough to hold the franchise hostage.

Or maybe he really, truly lost them on Tuesday, when he signed with the hated Minnesota Vikings, and then in Favre fashion, said “If you’re a true Packer fan, you understand.”

That was the line that still had fans fuming as they filed out of Stadium View Sports Bar in Green Bay, aptly named for its view of Lambeau Field down Armed Forces Drive. Some fans that had flocked for the Packers’ evening practice on Tuesday piled into the bar to watch Favre’s news conference. And ultimately they had a resounding opinion as they filed back out: Favre’s iconic legacy in this city has hit a new low.

“I couldn’t believe the ‘true Packers fans’ should understand thing,” said Ron Knautz. “I’m 54 years old. I’ve been a Packers fan since I was 5, which is when I knew what the Packers were. I got my picture taken with Bart Starr when I was 12. I’m a true Packers fan. Maybe a true Packers player would understand how I feel.”

And that was an overwhelming sentiment pulsing through Green Bay, where radio talk shows were pre-empting programs and dumping everything but call-in segments, as the fan base opened a fiery vein. On the rare occasion a fan called to support Favre’s right to play for the Vikings, they were bayoneted by the next five callers, who reacted as if they’d just heard someone pitch the positives of joining the Taliban. One caller said he’d confiscated all the pieces of clothing in his house emblazoned with Favre’s number. Another woman said she had removed Favre’s autographed picture from her wall and banished it behind her couch.

“I think it comes down to how you were a fan,” said Gary Nixt, nursing a beer inside Stadium View. “If you’re a Packers fan, you’re behind the team and you’re going to have that tunnel vision. If you are a Brett Favre fan, you’re going to stand behind him no matter what he does.”

Nixt was among those behind Favre, saying “No matter what happens, he goes into the Hall of Fame as a Packer.” And he’s not entirely alone. Some have come to see the onetime icon as a self-absorbed football nomad. Others remain the baptized faithful, mindful of the 16 seasons which raised the Packers back to NFL relevance.

The latter have long given Favre its own version of amnesty. They blame general manager Ted Thompson for not bending more to the quarterback’s ego. They complain that other parts of the team failed Favre long before he ever failed them. And they have been slow to fully embrace Aaron Rodgers(notes), the successor who they believe helped force out their hero.

“Those people exist, absolutely,” said Brian Smith(notes), a Milwaukee resident who has been driving to Green Bay to watch practice and attend games “since Don Majkowski was a big deal.” Smith was parking his car across from Brett Favre’s Steakhouse, which suddenly seemed like a palpably awkward place to eat.

“Some people love Favre and will love him even if he beats the Packers twice a year for the next 10 years,” Smith said. “He’s just legendary in their eyes.”

You get the feeling it will be a little harder for those people to exist in Green Bay going forward. Yes, some fans will look at Favre now and see what they’ve always seen – like Elvis Presley fans who clung to his fading lounge acts in Las Vegas while still proclaiming him to be The King. Others? Tuesday took another chunk out of a crumbling mythology that may never be the same.

“Of course it takes away from his aura,” Knautz said. “He’s coming back with the Vikings.”

Knautz adjusted his Packers hat and made a sour face.

“The Vikings,” he said. “I never would have believed it.”

Do You Play?

hehehe
I couldn't resist!

Good Morning All;
It has been rainy since yesterday- Building up those water tables!  More on the way today too!
A big "hooray" for the farmers around here- Their crops needing this rain so badly!

The trees need it too- Some more than others.

About 8 years ago, I found this itty bitty willow tree; just a sapling, no taller than my forearm is long...
I planted it at the bottom of the hill.  It has thrived in it's new home. (And only that first year did I ever carry water to it).

I remember being happily surprised when it lived through that first nasty winter.
As I walked a few days ago, I found it hard to believe that such a tiny thing could be like this in such a short amount of time.

As it makes the old garage almost shrink by comparison!

Cnv0986
Even from the top of the hill,
filling out the back yard so nicely!
.
.
Tired of being cooped up, I went for a little ride on Wednesday afternoon. To the store for a bit of parmesan peppercorn salad. Mmmmmmmmm.  Then stopped at Kelli's on the way home.
She was just beginning to do her evening chores. And even brought me a chair! (Evening chores being a spectator sport now). hehehe

The horses allowed to graze for a while, while she prepared their grain.

My apologies that I wasn't sat enough to really get good shots of them
once she called them up front!

While they ate, I took this picture-
Between the pasture and the pond- & such a pretty color...

I don't know what kind of plant it is either...

Know that this was abut 30 yards away from me-
About 5+ feet tall

Do any of you know what it is?

.
.

* And now the question of the day...
.
.
.
Do you play an instrument?

?

.
Being that Punk is 3 (and a half), Casey thought it high time that she would teach the pup how to enjoy her music...

First, to point out "Middle C"

"Let's start at the very beginning..."

And then to show her how it's done...

Although I don't believe that Vanessa Carlton's "Ordinary Day"
was the most simplistic choice for a beginner

That dog sure tried to keep up!

After taking piano lessons from the time I was 4, I joined band in 8th grade. (One of my original piano teachers was even Miss Wisconsin)!

I played B~flat clarinet. Not badly- Not good either.

So I stuck to Chorus, Music Theory, and singing. Easy credits for me, especially since I loved music!
I $aved my allowance, (not hard to do, I was never into frilly teeny~bopper things). Thi$ money went for my guitar.
Self taught. I didn't play well, but at least I could carry a tune (mostly). And had such fun with it too.

There had been a talent show at school one evening- One of the guys played his own guitar and sang "House of The Rising Sun" so well that it brought tears to my eyes.

That was the first song I taught myself to play.
I am still partial to it, and even if I am in the middle of uptown traffic, my Sirius gets turned way up to enjoy it should it ever come on...

  • There were fun songs, "Me and You, and a Dog named Boo".

  • Timely songs, "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?" (from the height of the Vietnam War).

  • Songs that were supposed to make you think... "Teach Your Children Well." "The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia" "Harper Valley PTA"

  • And there were always songs like "Black Water" "Morning Has Broken" to fall back on to harmonize, etc.

Mind you, those are just to name a very few...

I wonder how our parents ever put up with us?!? (At least I didn't choose percussion)!

So... What's your pleasure?

Do you play? Sing? Enjoy?
  ♫    Are you singing yet?

Have a "wunnaful" weekend!
