[My] Life in Wisconsin

Onward to "Happy~Happy" now

I was going to attach a top picture, but the only option I use for it is "from my computer".
The click then tells me "This webpage not available".
Not to be outdone by a mere machine, I will just have to try later...

Merry 2 days after Christmas to everyone! And please bear with me for a while...
That I have no idea what the heck I am doing is putting it gently. Mostly I stare at this machine and wonder what to do next...
I have uploaded a few pics to Flickr and will share them with you-

Santa Claus brought me a new computer, so I am not sure I'll even be able to blog.
Even the light~up keyboard has me puzzled at times.
No worries, I shall try to blog anyway...  hehehe

First our Punkmeister...

"Sandy Paws" brought her a new Frisbee!

By libz are stuck!
~ ~ ~Which she promptly got stuck to her face!!!  hehehe

She also received some new tennis balls, and 2 new tug toys.
And NONE of them squeak! (YAY)!
Oh! She LOVES to play! For her sake, I wish my back was better again, and I could be a better friend to her.

Casey and Greg stayed overnight on Christmas Eve.
I woke about 3 on Christmas morning. First, I was unable to go back to sleep, then I was afraid to- (in case I miss something you know)!

Casey came down with pain, about 6- Greg followed shortly thereafter.
We decided not to stare at the tree any longer, and made tracks to open the presents that Santa had brought!

Casey and Greg
Casey and Greg showing off their matching new coffee cups!

Happy Casey!
Casey showing off her new "Kindle" !
With 500 books too!
Greg said he HAD to play Santa on this one... Seems as though he thinks with all the books that Casey reads, he will be able now to save tons of room in their apartment for other things - besides all those books!!!

Greg got a homemade apron, along with some cooking utensils. These all, for our new outdoor grill, (which we don't have yet).  It will be one of the first things on my wish list when we get our duplex though...
Mmmmm.... (I can't wait)!

Jennifer sent pictures of the boys, and as soon as I figure out where the scanner is depositing scanned pics I will share those with you too.
And oh my! Little Wyatt looks just like me when I was one, minus my curls! I threaten to tear up every time I look at that picture! My man, Isaiah, is just as handsome as ever, looking very much like his mom!
Great DNA here!  (When Greg was doing the 'face matching' on the iPhoto, it brought up all my girls as myself, AND Wyatt and Gabriel too!

I called off my 24th annual Christmas brunch this year, having no ability to stand in the kitchen long enough to get food made, and everyone fed.
I received word 4 days ago that I have 3 new fractures in my spine. (No damn wonder I have been in so very much pain of late)!?!
I am not sure what will happen, given that my back is inoperable. But I will put up, and (try to) shut up, as long as I can still move around a bit.
OK. that "shut up" thing is not going to work... hehehe  So here's a thought. If you don't want to listen to me b*tch about my back, then you should not be on my pages.

They are thinking on doing some shots again to my back, just to make things easier for me, for a while. We will set up an appointment after the 1st to figure that out. After that, there is that "tens?" option, which I will have to check into to refresh my memory- Is that the thing that one wears for electrical currents?
Buying that duplex is quickly becoming a necessity.

We had a wonderful, quiet, day- We went back to bed, to nap, and were all surprised that we slept soundly for as long as we did. Waking early~afternoon, we made "breakfast", pigged out a bit, and were almost ready to call it a night when Randy showed up. (His belly, honestly, showing kudos to his own mama's good cooking. - And I thought gluttony was a sin)!? hehehe

Greg transferred all my pictures onto this computer. That there are over 50,000 surprised no one but him. This new program, iPhoto, will take a bit for me to figure out, but it is the first thing I went to also. hehehe

I did this one...

DSC09565
Not sure how I did it; but I think it's cool, and am proud of myself for it!

After a long day, Casey and Greg made their way home- Our presents were put away, and it was high time for me to get to sleep.

Just like Punk-

Tired Sandy Claws

Miss Kelli stopped by yesterday bearing gifts- (I feel like such a chintz sometimes)- She brought some grand lemony candles and sprinkles and even some drains stuff in lemon. With that kind of inspiration, I have already mopped my floors this morning, using my lemon pine sol. I am also on my 3rd load of wash.
For now it is high time for me to get cleaned up too.

Our "Merry Merry" was grand- Onward to "Happy Happy" now!

I hope everyone had a 'wunnaful' magical Christmas, no matter how you celebrated.
How did you celebrate, by the way?

My love to all!

XOXO
Me

PS
I have to thank everyone that did send me a card!
We did finally get to the post office, late as usual...
If you sent me a card you will have one shortly. I promise

PPS
On a related note...
Did you know that if you are disabled and cannot get to your mailbox that the postman has to deliver your mail to your door every day? I had the doctor write up an order for me as soon as I had learned that-
This came about after finally calling the US Postal Service to complain about having to have my mailbox plowed out 3 times last week, and only getting my mail one day...
I asked her how cleaned out my yard has to be for him to come in (after having had my box plowed out 3 times, not cheap, and he still would not deliver)-
She told me it did not matter-  that he HAS TO walk it to my door-
Then she recited their "rain, snow, sleet" motto to me.
Music to my ears!
(But I do wonder why that doesn't apply to the mailbox out there)?

Sometimes it helps to complain a bit!
Now all I have to do is get all my papers sent to the postmaster in GB.
Very very cool

Holiday Eating Tips...

1.  Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table knows nothing of the Holiday  spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave immediately.
Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. It's rare. You cannot find it any other time of year but now. So drink up!
Who cares that it has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into an eggnog-alcoholic or something.
It's a treat.. Enjoy it.
Have one for me. Have two. It's later than you think.

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy. Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on.
Make a volcano out of your mashed potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother?
It's like buying a sports car with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your eating. The whole point of going to a  Holiday party is to eat other people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's. You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while carrying a 10-pound plate of food, and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like thickly frosted Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of attention.
They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind, you're never going to see them again.

8. Same goes for pies.
Apple
, Pumpkin, Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or if you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have three.
When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor
 Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention.
Re-read tips; start over.
But hurry, January is just around the corner.

XOXO
Me,
 - Special thanks to my Auntie!

EGD- Pictures of Innards. (You have been warned).

         hehehe
Not MY wreath-
(Taken at Kelli and Tims place).

Good Morning All;
My apologies for visiting and not replying to your many entries. I am just not feeling the greatest.
Must have caught a lil bug while at the hospital for Casey.

Casey will be needing more surgery.
She had her EGD, (esophagogastroduodenoscopy).
Her anastamotic ulcers are still there. The surgeon here in town has upped her meds, changing one to a liquid as perhaps that may work for her pain a bit better.

These types of ulcers are directly caused by surgery- (The other, more common ulcer is caused by a bacteria, h~pylori).

The amount of pain that this young lady has learned to live with on a daily basis, for the past 6+ years just moves me.
Still, she has more chutzpah than most of her peers- or any other group. Not in a rude or impertinent sort of way, just with her ability to look at everything and still say, "so what?"
Makes a mama real proud.

My son in law William called on Thursday- All is well in Alabama, save for the fact that the poor guy has been freezing half to death. (I chuckle at that always).
Lawrence is quite well, although with the heart thing, he is limited to non-contact sports. So, much like Casey, he has dealt with that too. He is on the swim team and is loving every minute of that. He will be 11 this coming February- and is already almost 5' tall. That physique means he can swim like a fish!

When the phone rang again last night, and it was William, I got a bit panicked- Two days in a row is almost unheard of unless something is happening.
He stated that he and Lawrence were just leaving the hospital. His oldest son, Blaine, is now in the hospital, -with pancreatitis.
Lordy, I didn't even know of this until Casey's problems started. Then I didn't know anyone else with it. Then Uncle Chum had one attack a few years back. Now Blaine. Now I know 3 people.
Odd, isn't it?
Blaine is 21. He will be hospitalized until this bout passes.
They have also found a growth on the outside of his small intestine. Not yet sure exactly what it is attached to, but that will have to be dealt with too.
I wish him the very best of diagnosis and prognosis.
William did tell me that where the growth is, is very very rare that this sort of thing would be malignant. That is good to know. Still hard for these kids to be in such pain.

... If it's not one thing...

I sewed until about 3AM then stole a few hours of sleep.
Some things are coming together. Some, not so much.  Oh well.   hehehe

Punk must surely hate me for being so busy without her.

She lays on the foot pedal...

No more sewing please

Or, Worse, ...

Punk. Stealing a nap on some ironed squares
~ She lays on my nicely ironed ready to use patches...
(Casey had to iron more than a few, again, the other day).

And I save almost everything.   3 shots of patches too small to use.

Too small?   Wanna bet?

These are NOT my quilts, so I can post these pictures. hehehe

Patches too small to use

Too small to use

Too small to use

I only wish I had more thread and fabric...

I'd better close and get on with my day.
Casey and Greg will be here shortly-  Brian called yesterday and her car is ready to be picked up. YAY!  Happy it is done.

I hope all is well with everyone!  That you are enjoying these last two weeks of the year!

Must fly for now- My love to all.

From the Completely Frozen Tundra

G-g-g-g-g-good M-m-m-m-m-morning All;
Flintville Wisconsin comes a bit chilly today...
The kind of morning that makes you want some hot chili for breakfast.

So far, so good; knock on wood. We have power, and we have heat, and we have running water. Not too much else matters in this weather.
I took the above picture about an hour or so ago.
The weatherman says it is now 16 below.
The weatherman also says that we have to go back to January 2009 to have a morning this cold. Almost 2 years.
At least it is to warm up to the teens today. (That would be on the plus side of zero). Tonight promises not to be so bad

Whatever. Nasty is nasty.

Ask Casey about "nasty"... Her car is in the shop. Front end probably frozen; with an possible additional tie rod problem.  She has my car for the duration.
Life goes on.
~ Sorry Punk, I am not walking anywhere in this.
Casey and Greg were here last night and brought my dumpsters down the driveway for garbage today. Had it not been for them, they would not get taken away today either.

Time for to find a nice warm blanket.

Jeopardy! The Humans vs The IBM Machine

Start:     Feb 14, '11 07:00a
End:     Feb 16, '11
Location:     - Your TV -

NEW YORK –
The game show "
Jeopardy!" will pit man versus machine this winter in a competition that will show how successful scientists are in creating a computer that can mimic human intelligence.

Two of the venerable game show's most successful champions — Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter — will play two games against "Watson," a computer program developed by IBM's artificial intelligence team. The matches will be spread over three days that will air Feb. 14-16, the game show said on Tuesday.

The competition is reminiscent of when IBM developed a chess-playing computer to compete against chess champion Garry Kasparov in 1997.

The "Jeopardy!" answer-and-question format is a different kind of challenge. It often requires contestants to deal with subtleties, puns and riddles and come up with answers fast.

"Watson" is named for IBM founder Thomas J. Watson. It will look nothing like the computer "maid" on "The Jetsons." Rather, IBM said its on-screen appearance will be represented by a round avatar.

The computer has already been tested in some 50 games against past "Jeopardy!" champions. But neither IBM nor "Jeopardy!" representatives would say what "Watson's" record was.

The winner gets a $1 million prize. IBM said it would donate its winnings to charity, while Jennings and Rutter said they would give half of their prize money away.

Jennings had the game show's longest winning streak, taking 74 games in a row during the 2004-2005 season. Rutter has won more money than any other "Jeopardy!" player, nearly $3.3 million during his original appearance and three subsequent tournaments.

IBM is hoping the technology it exhibits will have some practical uses eventually, for instance helping doctors diagnose illnesses or solving customer problems at technical support centers.

I do love this show, and the thought of man -vs- computer is intriguing!
Methinks one man may be able to do this quite well...  Ken Jennings.
I will be setting my DVR for these 3 days.

But where to poo?

Good Frigid Morning All;

I have 2 driveways. For a while yesterday I had none.
Now, once again I have 2 driveways!
hehehe
Jim came with the snowplow about 12:30 yesterday afternoon.
Yes, it was still blowing around something wild, but the snow had quit coming down, and the weather had settled down enough to move most of the snow. Not even sure how much we got- Probably not as much as was predicted, but enough to hide most everything left outside.

Waking up yesterday, Sunday, the first thing one does is check out the windows...

First to the kitchen window...

Kitchen window

Yes. That is drifted up the side of the house.
Put there by the winds, as the snowfall was deep but certainly not that great. hehehe

Then to peek out the east windows...

Toward the woods

No wonder there is snow everywhere! Still coming down.
I do hate when the snow flies across, instead of in a soft downward fashion...

OK. Now to the living room window to see if I can still see the yews.

LR Window

I see them!   Kinda.   Sorta.   hehehe

So out to the entrance...

Teeny tiny drifts in the screen

The screen door was/IS frozen. I put silicone on it last night. It still frosted up the handle.

By this time, Miss Punk was begging to go out.

   ...   A dog's gotta do what a dog's gotta doo~doo.

Must find my poo spot

Off she goes, in search of her favorite place to poo...

She couldn't find it!

Where's my poo spot?

She looked to me to see if I knew something...

Maybe this way...

So she was off to find her 2nd favorite place...

Nope. Not here either...

"Well, where IS it, Mom?"

And then back again across the yard...

... A little faster this time-

Good grief, I gotta go!

She literally pranced through the drifts!

I have never laughed so hard at doggie doo~doo in my life... She finally gave up looking for someplace perfect, and found a place to squat.

It is cold, and very white, outside this morning.
Not as windy, so the only weather advisory today is the windchill warning.
* COLD AIR POURING INTO THE AREA WILL RESULT IN WIND CHILLS TO
AROUND 20 BELOW ZERO THIS MORNING.
* WIND CHILLS THIS LOW CAN PRODUCE FROST BITE IN 20 MINUTES.

School buses are running about 2 hours late- A few extra minutes for the plows to ensure the roads are (mostly) open, and the buses are all warmed up.
Yesterday, Governor Doyle issued some snow emergency for the entire state.
Well hell, it doesn't take an idiot to know you go nowhere when it's like this.

It does bother me that the news stations ALL say that the Sheriff's Deparments have warned everyone to stay off the roads. Then they proceed to tell you what a terrible drive it was as they drove from here to there to report that it is snowing and slippery and downright dangerous.
What the hell is up with that? St00pid people.

I sewed for a while yesterday...
But damn!, my back is awful, and my head kicked in.
(Must have something to do with the weather).
I napped a little too! hehehe
Apparently so did the Packers. Oh well.
I watched until the 4th quarter. Should have kept it on...

The news has just stated that we received about 11+" of snow. Seems like a lot.
They also said the windchill advisory will be canceled around 10AM, when the windchills will be above 10 below zero.
The weatherman also said that this blizzard came one year to the day after our first blizzard last year.
Weird that.
To see those pictures, please click here. (www.flintville.multiply.com/journal/item/916)

I'd better close and get in the shower-
Am waiting to hear from Miss CaseyFace. Perhaps she will be coming out today.
I have some thick cut pork chops for our lunch if she does... Mmmm

Speaking of Casey, her new pictures are uploading as I type.
You can see them by clicking here. (www.edbdkcn.multiply.com/photos/album/13)
Great comments on there by the way! hehehe

Must fly for now, the dryer is buzzing...
Love to all

Snow Today, Blow Tomorrow...

Good Morning All;
We got an inch or three of snow on Thursday- Casey came out and helped me shovel yesterday. Then we were off to buy a few necessities for the weekend.

Soon, our clouds will open and cover our little corner of the world. We have already gotten about an inch this morning.

From my weather email:
WINTER STORM WARNING IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST SUNDAY.
(Crap, that's a long time for any storm).
* SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE DAY...AND MAY BE MIXED WITH SLEET AT TIMES DURING THE MORNING.
THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT.

Now they are saying that we might be upgraded to blizzard status by tomorrow morning. Our winds are to be N at 25 to 35 mph... Gusts much higher-
Apparently too we are at the warmest we will be for the next week or so too. Temps tomorrow will be nasty cold, and go down from there- (Wind chills will be dangerous at best).

If I am not on or around, it is only because I will be watching the storm. OK, that is not going to happen; (that's akin to watching the grass grow as far as I am concerned).
Or may be it will be that mouse has turned to 'Igloo' status. I then will be frozen solid wherever I stood last. hehehe
Hmmm
Do sewing machines freeze?
Yes, I am still sewing patches for most of every day.

Casey had an infusion on Thursday morning. As soon as it was up and running, her blood pressure was OK, and she was in the least amount of pain, I was up and running too.  I had a few stops I needed to make before it snowed.
Casey asked that I return by noon, as Nick goes to lunch and she would be left with Lori- (who is a raunchy nurse and does everything in her power to cross Casey).
This infusion was set to run for 4 hours. Casey has had such terrible reactions to these infusions, and the pharmacist and her doctor thought the reactions would be lessened if it ran much slower- Her skin breaks out from just the pokes- As always, her veins shut down and refuse to cooperate.  And once placed, the IV runs like razor blades up her arm. Her blood pressures generally go way down.
All was as well as it could be, so I left.

I returned 5 minutes late. Oops.   Casey met me at the door -as she'd waited.
As soon as I'd left, her arm pained something fierce, the IV infiltrated, and, and, and.
Long story short, she'd been waiting since 10:30. I generally take her cell phone with me- (We both forgot that, that day. It won't happen again).  At least she knows everyone there- from the pharmacy to admit, to front desk, (not to mention she is on a first name basis with the nurses and doctors as well).
Not like she was abandoned, or that any of them would allow her to be, for long!
hehehe

I do have a few pictures, and will add them to the comments below, when I can. I still have to send them from the camera to the machine... Slow that way lately.
My back is doing as poorly as it has been for the last few weeks, so it bugs me to sit here overlong-
At least when I am sewing I am up and down between the machine, the table, the ironing board, and the cutting board.

Not sure if that is good or bad for it.   It is the way it is though.

I have to shovel out the doorway every now and then so Miss Punk can get out and get her business done. Neither herself nor the cat have much energy today- I do think this coming storm affects them so. (Is that odd? Or have I just been slow to notice)?

Time for me to get in the shower and then shovel a wee bit.

My love to all!  Have a 'wunnaful' weekend.

XOXO
Me

My Saved Locations

Where are YOU?
Maybe the better question for those of us in Wisconsin, is "where would you like to be?"

For myself, I pick Alabama or Texas to see a few of my grandbabies- warm as they are...

Hopefully you are somewhere safe and warm.
(And if not, please get there and batten the hatches).

Methinks too, that Detroit is darn lucky that the Packers will play *there* tomorrow. They are to get snow, but not like what we are forecast to receive.

From here:  *Aiden could be one of the biggest December snowstorms on record in Northeast Wisconsin. Blizzard Allison, of December 2009, was the biggest dropping 14.7 inches of snow."

Andrew

Good Morning.
Seems as most? people have their holiday plans well in hand by now.
Not everyone knows that same joy.

My friend Denise, from Panama City Beach, lost her youngest child; her 21 year old son, on December the 4th. Much like my own Casey, it seems as though Drew has been ill forever...

Won't you please take a minute to offer your sympathy? Click here.
Thank you.

Of all the people in history that have reached 65 years of age, half of them are living right now.

Nekkid Chickens, ... and "Belties"

Good Morning All;
A bit of a headache today, so will lay low until it is better. (Aw, come on now, a few stitches won't hurt anything). Methinks I am addicted to my sewing machine, which is working just fine once more...

Another blog here that I should have posted almost a month and a half ago.
Bear with me, I play "ketchup" a lot...
hehehe

On one of my blogs from Minnesota, you might, or might not, recall that I once had written of a pasture full of striped cows just off Highway 29. I think I had posted a picture or two also.
I had made up my mind that on one of these trips home we would stop in.
On our last trip home, we finally made that stop...
And oh! Punk wanted to get out of the car so bad!  No such luck for her though-

Mr Farmer was on
the Skidster, clearing out the stoop in the back of the barn. Having learned long ago that when a farmer is as busy as all that, one does not interrupt him. (I am not even sure if he saw us prowling around)!
There was no answer at the door of their huge farmhouse, so I figured there was no one else around.
We took a few pictures as we wandered about, enjoying the cattle, but still wondering about them too. A beautiful layout they had, and lots of places to look!
As we thought to leave I was leaving them a note, when the Mrs. came up from another barn to greet us. She had been feeding the goats.

Cnv0708
Oops. Wrong picture.   hehehe
These are just a few of their sheep!

I explained that we have made many trips past their farm, and was more curious each time. She was happy to oblige us, and to answer our questions- A request to see everything was met with a smile.
She took us into the big barn. Once used as a dairy farm, it was now converted into pens and such.

In the first pen were these creatures!

Cnv0709
So pretty, and she could point to, and name off each breed of hen they had!
(To my ignorant brain they are all just "chickens").

To the back of the barn then, she showed us these ladies...

The Nekkid Hens!
HAHAHA  They are all naked!
(Molting season kids, they are not sickly).

The molt has no effect on the lay of the eggs either...

Cnv0726
.......... Cnv0725
Laying lots of eggs
..........   ........... And the size of them just blows me away!
(Dang. Now I am hungry). hehehe

This next bird must have thought he was a cow~hen, as he seemed to be hellbent on corralling this heifer-
Maybe he thought the heifer was his mama?

Cnv0706

Casey got some very cool pictures of the cattle in question as well...

Cnv0707
The expression on this ones face just cracks me up!

Cnv0705
I laugh at the little one, peeking around his mama-

Cnv0731
At the scratching posts-

Cnv0735
"King of the Hill"  by Mama and son...

Cnv0717
Chewing his cud, he could not have cared less about the camera...
So CUTE!

She told us ALL about these beautiful creatures.
They are called Belted Galloways.
She called them her "Belties". (So cute she was)!

She said that, furry as her Belties are in these pictures, these are actually only their 'summer coats'. They grow yet another coat for winter! Too bad we didn't make it to Minnesota last week, I would have stopped for pictures of those coats too. I just can't imagine them any furrier than they already are!

From here: "The Belted Galloway is a rare beef breed of cattle originating from Galloway in SouthWest Scotland, adapted to living on the poor upland pastures and windswept moorlands of the region. The exact origin of the breed is unclear although it is often surmised that the white belt that distinguishes these cattle from the native black Galloway cattle may be as a result of crossbreeding with Dutch Lakenvelder belted cattle.
Belted Galloways are primarily raised for their quality marbled beef,
(Dang. Now I am REALLY hungry),  although they are sometimes milked; {or} purchased to adorn pastures due to their striking appearance.
I
n the US these cows are often informally known as "police car cows,""panda cows" or "Oreo cows"
."
 - - end quoted text

We chatted for quite a while- (Neither Casey nor myself were standing too well by the time we left).
But we are both SO very happy that we finally stopped in-  to learn something new, and to meet new friends as well.

As we drove out of the yard, she walked up to her house...

Cnv0737

She is such a lovely lady!
Small in stature, but big on wisdom and kindness. Welcoming a couple of strangers with open arms, and a tour. Not too many good people like that left in our world these days.
Her husband worked throughout our visit. I am sorry to have not been able to have met him, perhaps next time. As I stated before, I do understand that work ethic.

I just wanted to share this "wonderfilled" visit with everyone.
I'd better close for now, my dryer has been buzzing that my rugs are done. (Not 'dry' mind you, but the first layer of cat hair and puppy fur has been removed). I dry the rugs very carefully as the lint filter always fills up quickly- And we all know that a dirty lint filter will ruin a dryer in record time.

Have a 'wunnaful' weekend!   My love to all!
