[My] Life in Wisconsin

Onward to "Happy~Happy" now

I was going to attach a top picture, but the only option I use for it is "from my computer".
The click then tells me "This webpage not available".
Not to be outdone by a mere machine, I will just have to try later...

Merry 2 days after Christmas to everyone! And please bear with me for a while...
That I have no idea what the heck I am doing is putting it gently. Mostly I stare at this machine and wonder what to do next...
I have uploaded a few pics to Flickr and will share them with you-

Santa Claus brought me a new computer, so I am not sure I'll even be able to blog.
Even the light~up keyboard has me puzzled at times.
No worries, I shall try to blog anyway...  hehehe

First our Punkmeister...

"Sandy Paws" brought her a new Frisbee!

By libz are stuck!
~ ~ ~Which she promptly got stuck to her face!!!  hehehe

She also received some new tennis balls, and 2 new tug toys.
And NONE of them squeak! (YAY)!
Oh! She LOVES to play! For her sake, I wish my back was better again, and I could be a better friend to her.

Casey and Greg stayed overnight on Christmas Eve.
I woke about 3 on Christmas morning. First, I was unable to go back to sleep, then I was afraid to- (in case I miss something you know)!

Casey came down with pain, about 6- Greg followed shortly thereafter.
We decided not to stare at the tree any longer, and made tracks to open the presents that Santa had brought!

Casey and Greg
Casey and Greg showing off their matching new coffee cups!

Happy Casey!
Casey showing off her new "Kindle" !
With 500 books too!
Greg said he HAD to play Santa on this one... Seems as though he thinks with all the books that Casey reads, he will be able now to save tons of room in their apartment for other things - besides all those books!!!

Greg got a homemade apron, along with some cooking utensils. These all, for our new outdoor grill, (which we don't have yet).  It will be one of the first things on my wish list when we get our duplex though...
Mmmmm.... (I can't wait)!

Jennifer sent pictures of the boys, and as soon as I figure out where the scanner is depositing scanned pics I will share those with you too.
And oh my! Little Wyatt looks just like me when I was one, minus my curls! I threaten to tear up every time I look at that picture! My man, Isaiah, is just as handsome as ever, looking very much like his mom!
Great DNA here!  (When Greg was doing the 'face matching' on the iPhoto, it brought up all my girls as myself, AND Wyatt and Gabriel too!

I called off my 24th annual Christmas brunch this year, having no ability to stand in the kitchen long enough to get food made, and everyone fed.
I received word 4 days ago that I have 3 new fractures in my spine. (No damn wonder I have been in so very much pain of late)!?!
I am not sure what will happen, given that my back is inoperable. But I will put up, and (try to) shut up, as long as I can still move around a bit.
OK. that "shut up" thing is not going to work... hehehe  So here's a thought. If you don't want to listen to me b*tch about my back, then you should not be on my pages.

They are thinking on doing some shots again to my back, just to make things easier for me, for a while. We will set up an appointment after the 1st to figure that out. After that, there is that "tens?" option, which I will have to check into to refresh my memory- Is that the thing that one wears for electrical currents?
Buying that duplex is quickly becoming a necessity.

We had a wonderful, quiet, day- We went back to bed, to nap, and were all surprised that we slept soundly for as long as we did. Waking early~afternoon, we made "breakfast", pigged out a bit, and were almost ready to call it a night when Randy showed up. (His belly, honestly, showing kudos to his own mama's good cooking. - And I thought gluttony was a sin)!? hehehe

Greg transferred all my pictures onto this computer. That there are over 50,000 surprised no one but him. This new program, iPhoto, will take a bit for me to figure out, but it is the first thing I went to also. hehehe

I did this one...

DSC09565
Not sure how I did it; but I think it's cool, and am proud of myself for it!

After a long day, Casey and Greg made their way home- Our presents were put away, and it was high time for me to get to sleep.

Just like Punk-

Tired Sandy Claws

Miss Kelli stopped by yesterday bearing gifts- (I feel like such a chintz sometimes)- She brought some grand lemony candles and sprinkles and even some drains stuff in lemon. With that kind of inspiration, I have already mopped my floors this morning, using my lemon pine sol. I am also on my 3rd load of wash.
For now it is high time for me to get cleaned up too.

Our "Merry Merry" was grand- Onward to "Happy Happy" now!

I hope everyone had a 'wunnaful' magical Christmas, no matter how you celebrated.
How did you celebrate, by the way?

My love to all!

XOXO
Me

PS
I have to thank everyone that did send me a card!
We did finally get to the post office, late as usual...
If you sent me a card you will have one shortly. I promise

PPS
On a related note...
Did you know that if you are disabled and cannot get to your mailbox that the postman has to deliver your mail to your door every day? I had the doctor write up an order for me as soon as I had learned that-
This came about after finally calling the US Postal Service to complain about having to have my mailbox plowed out 3 times last week, and only getting my mail one day...
I asked her how cleaned out my yard has to be for him to come in (after having had my box plowed out 3 times, not cheap, and he still would not deliver)-
She told me it did not matter-  that he HAS TO walk it to my door-
Then she recited their "rain, snow, sleet" motto to me.
Music to my ears!
(But I do wonder why that doesn't apply to the mailbox out there)?

Sometimes it helps to complain a bit!
Now all I have to do is get all my papers sent to the postmaster in GB.
Very very cool

  1. Please let me know if you can see Mom's pictures on here! Don't know if they'll show up....

  2. Yes...they are showing up most beautifully! Sounds like you all had a very Merry Christmas Flint! I always enjoy reading about it! That kindle thing...is it hard to read...I mean hard on your eyes after awhile or not? And if you want help with your new pc...give me a hollar! Have a great night Beautiful! huggggs, Judd.

  3. I have a TENS unit and I love it. I got mine from woot.com and spent roughly $45 on it. I fractured a vertebra in 1979 and it still hurts from time to time. The TENS unit doesn't fix anything. It does help with pain and that is PRICELESS.

You'll figure out the PC. I laughed when I read you couldn't find the pics you scanned. hee hee hee!

  4. TJ has a TENS unit....trying to get the VA to replace it since it's somewhere around 23 years old.

Since we're part of the group that doesn't celebrate Christmas we ventured out in the rare Alabama snow and took pictures, then chilled at home and watched TV.

  6. OMG, you got a new computer! How very cool is that! You will learn it sooner than you think and it will all be good, no doubt! :) Yay for you! Now, about the mail being delivered straight to your door, I never knew that, but it's a good thing to know and I am glad that you will be taking advantage of that service. That is all you need to fall down while walking to or from your mailbox and being all alone, that's not good! Sorry to hear that you have new fractures, what the heck is up with that? Do you need to be taking vitamin D and calcium supplements? I have never heard of the TENS machine, but I have had some of the patches with little charges put on me when I had physical therapy, it was funny feeling. Also had the ultrasound heat therapy too.

  7. Mr. Judd;
Oh, we had a very fine Christmas! I cannot ever remember one so quiet, and I liked it.
NOT to say it will continue that way, as I missed having all of my friends here to share the day as well.

Polly called me this afternoon- Had I been thinking, I would have just said "potluck" instead of canceling the brunch.
That is a fine idea for next year!

    ... Need lots of help!
    hehehe
When Greg is here, he clicks through all these things... boom boom boom, and everything works for him.
I enjoy watching him, but would kill for 1/10th of his knowledge of it too!
I am very good at windows, not so with this Apple. Time will tell!

  8. Sweet Zus;
Lordy, I feel for you if after 30+ years you are still having problems with that fracture! (And crap, that doesn't offer me much hope, does it)?
    *sigh*

She told me that it wouldn't fix anything too. Maybe the shots, then the tens?

Greg told me where to find those pics- Will check into that tomorrow.

  9. Sweet Donna;
The *major* problem I will have with the TENS unit is that my pain is my back, and I live alone. hehehe
Maybe this is something that will have to wait til the duplex too.
Like I said, that duplex is getting to be a necessity. And quickly too.

I admire your not celebrating Christmas. Was it always so for you both, or is it something you came into and decided not to do?
    (I am nosy). hehehe

I am however, happy that you have snow!

Blaine is still very sick, and William hasn;t called for a few days- He is driving up to UAB every night after work- Hope he didn't have bad roads. Will email him shortly.

  10. "YAY"! My butt Sweet Pamela- I am so dang lost I embarrass myself every time I sit my butt down here. hehehe
It is so hard to UN~learn a certain way of doing things...
Santa Greg got a very good deal on the Kindle through his work, otherwise Casey would still be littering up their apartment with all the books she reads. (Desperate times calling for desperate measures)! hehehe

There is nothing to tell about the duplex yet. Just that we not only want one, we need one, (obviously).
If wishes could come true, I would thank the powers that be- I would even offer up my firstborn to those same "powers" . (Happily too, I might add). hehehe
Oh, you know how that goes... ;-)

  11. Sweet Suzy!
Sheesh- from your keyboard and straight to Gods I hope. Because He is laughing at me, loudly, right about now.

I take my life in my hands getting my mail. I can't run (guess I could if the right truck were bearing down on me)- But the traffic goes through here at about 70 or so, and I have to cross the road. This, after I get all the way down the driveway.

Rough enough to get my dumpsters down there every Wednesday; although it is easier when it is a recycle week and I have both to drag down. Weird that.

No one can figure out why I have new fractures. I even asked if it may be an absorption issue, especially given that Casey has had so many digestive problems throughout her life? That may even make sense. We will finish discussing that angle next month too. (I really couldn't process much more than "Anne, your intuition was right- you have 3 new fractures"). I asked for them to hold off on lots and to give me Christmas anyway...
I began taking supplements even before it was the right thing to do. (My sister is a mucky~muck with health foods. Too bad she is such a sh*t now).
In addition to my regular vitamins and supplements, I now take over 4000 IU of the D and the calcium every day. They say that adding that much more has no added medical benefit, but if there is even a million to one shot that it might help, I will do it.
All that, and my diet is 'better than the average bear'- Always has been, (thanks to my mom who taught us about our bodies needs for vitamins, minerals, and even holistic meds), very well.
-Insert huge *sigh* here- (It is so damned frustrating to even think on).

  12. Oh, I must come back tomorrow! So much I want to say!
I've still got the chicken simmering in the stock pot for my kitty, & hope I can lift it off the stove to put in the fridge. My 'rags' are in the drier, (takes at least three hours), & it's past 3:30a. Must get up early enough to call the pharmacy, they're going to deliver tomorrow, but I ordered another re-fill today, (no re-fills!) & need it badly.
It's so good to see you posting again, Annie. I missed you! *Hug* ♥

  13. This confuses me. I don't need help to use mine. The style they have now has the electrodes attached to a soft, wide belt that closes with velcro. Once you get the electrodes where you want them, getting ready to use the TENS is mostly putting on the belt.

    ReplyDelete
  14. TJ's problem is his back also, from a car accident in '86. He is able to get the electrodes on...he hasn't had any experience with the belt thing.

Yes, you're nosy...LOL! We both celebrated many years ago...but not the religious angle of it....the more we have returned to tribal beliefs the more we left it behind. TJ didn't have any good memories of Christmas growing up anyway. One of the local TV stations had 2 posts on Facebook....one wishing "Merry Christmas" and one wishing "Happy Holidays" for the rest of us....the local, bible belt Christians barged in and took it over with preaching and "Merry Christmas"....none of us had invaded their thread and trashed it.

We enjoyed the snow....got some great photos downtown at the park.

There shouldn't be any road issues down Birmingham way.....snow stayed up here.

  15. It was good talking to you and Casey the other day. We did get to spend the weekend with the kids and had a good time for the most part..just there was someone missing...(welll...kinda will explain in a blog later)...so Bruce and I had a break down for a while after all the presents were opened by the kiddos...and things got alittle quiet while everyone was playing and napping waiting for dinner to cook. Even the grandsons were on the quiet side...you could see the tears in their eyes.
Glad you have a new computer. You will learn it soon enough and be breezing along once again.
Everyone looked very happy with their gifts...and Punk is just too cute!
Happy New Year to you all. Its cold here and I am headed to the couch for a nap and to get warm.

  17. Happy New Year to you Ms Annie.....I have missed you more than you know. We had all the family home
for Christmas and since it is our last Christmas in this house, we had some tearful and very funny memories to talk about. I can't decide if I am happy or sad....I guess it's both. We will be moving in a Senior's new complex and they are finishing our apartment right now. I am so happy that everything will be new and I hope we will be happy and healthy for some time.

I knew you were a good woman and getting a new computer proves that!!! Good for you and I'm sure you
will be typing away and knowing where everything is in no time. :) I'm sorry about your back....I'm sure
there is a place they could send you where you could get your questions answered and maybe even
some work done on your back to make it feel better.

    Hugs & blessings,

  19. Wow. I just had to respond to this first, as I need many tests, & although I can drive a mile or so on my 'better' days, it's very painful, & I'm not aware of anything like this with my insurance! I've said somewhere that the ER is best for me! They take x-rays, ultrasound, the works, right there trundling me around on a gurney with warm blankets! Otherwise, it's finding handicapped parking, & trying to walk from one place to another.
My back 'may' be fractured from an incident that motivated my decision to stop practicing. I know my ribs were fractured, & have never healed. I walk through the house bent over like the hunchback from Notre Dame.

I can't take anything for pain. That is, except for morphine, that I'm given by the paramedics!

Happy New Year to everyone! :)

Did she send them to you by email or a PM? I have 'sub' folders in my desktop. One is PHOTOS. If I click right on any picture, anywhere, a window shows up that says: "Save image as..." I choose PHOTOS, name it & save. Then, I can go to flickr if I want to edit. Once it's on flickr, I can get the code, (which I guess you did)!

But the first & most important thing, is to have a place where you save all your photos. Does this help at all?

I'm so sorry to hear about your back! (I still haven't gone for the x-ray.)

I haven't had folks over since 2003, & not even a tree. I finally had a brainstorm, & got a bar stool for the kitchen! The seat swivels, & I didn't realize how important this is until I used it. I had to assemble it myself, ouch ouch bi*** bi*** & from time to time, the screws have to be tightened with an Allen wrench. But oh, how wonderful it is when I'm doing a lot of chopping...I cook only for myself. I have a pot of chicken I simmered for my kitty. I've got to get it out, remove all the fat & bones & then mince it. I have a lovely chopping block, but I use the pull-out one, so I can get my knees under it, & not work sideways!
If you don't have one, please get one! I ordered it online from Target. $65.00 plus S/H. I wish I'd thought of it long ago, instead of leaning on the counter & having to sit down every five minutes.

I'd better do it right now while waiting for a call from the doctor to authorize a prescription re-fill right away. It's for spasms in my hands, & I've only one left...the pharmacy will be closed Friday, & the weekend, too. I'll probably have my hands in the chicken when/if they call!

It was not good to talk with you- It was WONDERFUL!
I am so happy you called. Such fun- Even Casey was laughing out loud!!!

I read your poem- The sentiments brought many tears. What perfect thoughts.
And there is nothing wrong about breaking down either. These moments cleanse our hearts and keep people right where they belong in our hearts and souls.

I swear I will never learn this computer!
Back in the 90's I said the same thing about 'windows' too.
    Time will tell.

Greg came out and worked out a few kinks... (I would have to take years of classes if it weren't for he and Casey).
And there really *were* kinks, it wasn't just me!
Happy about that. (Not so much for Greg dealing with it though- poor guy).

Punk is a thief, and has stolen my spot where I napped just an hour ago- Completely stretched out on the couch. hehehe

I am sorry that your Christmas was so bittersweet- Am thinking that will ensure that not a moment be forgotten to you later.
How exciting that your new place will be ready soon! Such good news- and something to look so forward to!

My back is completely inoperable, save for the possibility of those shots.
I think there is way too much going on between the fractures, the bone spurs, the discs and the arthritis (which I have had for years and years; just that it has spread a lot according to my latest xrays).

A place to go? (Heaven or not, here I come)?!?!
    hehehe Just kidding!

The computer has a huge glass screen- Like watching TV close up, so I think of mama's warnings often!
    hehehe
What am I saying?!? This computer *IS* a screen. No big old box sitting on the side with tons of cords hanging down- Just the mouse hangs- (And Sputty thinks that cord is for him to bat at). Darn cat. hehehe

  31. OMG Mr Lester- That is too funny about the Frisbee looking like her tongue.

I do not understand why my back keeps fracturing like this! (Nor do my doctors).
It is more frustrating than I can even begin to say!
I write like I talk too. It is best that way- Yes, I do laugh a lot! hehehe And yes, I cuss.

The entitlements in the states are NOT like yours are there.
However, the tribe offers that to all if you live on the reservation, or if you make prior arrangements. Fortunately I can take advantage of that if I need to- Problem is then Punk can't go. (She is the one responsible for keeping my anxiety attacks to a minimum).

  32. Sweetie-
I do my best at any drive less than 30 minutes, but when I bring Casey to Minnesota... Wow, what a trek that always is! But I/We always get through it too, so I won't whine too loud. hehehe
I am now permanently disabled. Finding a parking spot sucks lots doesn't it? Today when Casey and I went into town, there was a car without any handicap stuff anywhere- Not on the plartes, with mirrow or the dash or the seat.
    So I parked him in.
    (What a b*tch I can be).

Do you have a cane at least? I have two- Using my dads old one from years and years ago- It has a tripod base, AND a candy cane handle. The only ones I find at the stores now have a flat handle. When I put that one down it falls over right away- It won't even hang on the counter or whatnot. I prefer Pa's old one. Not much to look at, but sure works great!

It sounds as though you need to see a pain management doctor. They will prescribe your narcotics. You get them refilled on a monthly basis. I have Kadian (time release morphine) that I take once or twice a day depending upon how bad off I am- And the oxy then for the breakthrough pain. yes, I go every month, but it is worth the trip across town to make sure I can navigate on a daily basis.

  34. hehehe I am thinking that I am sorry that I went in for my xrays, so don't be in too big of a hurry to know.

The barstool idea is a great one! Thank you so much for letting me know.
We have a store just for barstools in town on 54, so will make a point to stop in there some day when I'm in town.

I have 4 pullout breadboards in the kitchen. I have replaced the main one that I use twice already. hehehe

Doing the dishes is the worst for me- And only plays 2nd to cutting up stew meat when I go buy a bunch of that. Thank God it's not something I have to do every day! hehehe

What do you take for the spasms? The doctor gives me diazepam for when my back goes wacky, but I am loathe to take it unnecessarily too. One bottle lasts me more than a year. I need a refill on that come to think of it, before we go back to Minnesota.
    Hang on...
... Yes that bottle is dated 11/2009. hehehe

Looks like Punkie sure does enjoy those new toys! That frisbee incident was hilarious! It really did get stuck on the inside of her lip, not too bad though, as she was able to get it off really easy. It was absolutely hilarious watching her sit there with her mouth open and panting with the frisbee still hanging out!!!! LOL!!!

Oh we had such a wonderful Christmas!!! Even though it wasn't the usual, I had a most splendid time and so did Greg! Just wish that your back felt better so you could have enjoyed it even more than you did! THEN it truly would have been a joyous and miraculous Christmas!!!

I can't believe that there's three new fractures... It's just so awful, especially since they keep saying there's nothing anyone can do... It's hard to believe that things still exist that the medical community CAN'T relieve with all the technological advances that have been made. I'm sure they'll find something soon. I hope that new plan that they have for the electrical device can help. It works by actually stimulating the nerves around the hurt area so that the brain focuses on those pain free parts and not the over active painful ones... At least that's how I think it works. I'd asked Becky about it once and although it was a long time ago, I think that's the "gist" of it...

I keep praying and praying it'll all go away one day and you'll feel good as new!! I also pray that if that can't happen, that it doesn't get worse... I just worry so much about you, and want to make it better and I know there's nothing I can do... Shows me a bit of what you've gone through with my health situations, but you're "The Mom" which makes it harder to watch the child go through stuff... Just don't worry too much about me :) Good thing we're such strong troopers and that we have each other to lean on during these times. That in itself is truly a blessing!!!

I can't believe the darn post office.... My feelings on the plowing out the mailbox matter is that if they can get close enough to the damn mailbox to put the slip of paper in it telling you to plow it out, then they can put your mail in there!!!! DUH!!!! After making you raise the thing 8" higher (for no apparent reason) which they refused to deliver your mail for over a month because you couldn't raise it up, then they won't deliver it because of the snow, then they don't even put YOUR mail in your mailbox, but someone else's...... Hmmm...... I think your mail man needs to learn a few things.... I'm ever so glad that they'll be taking it up to your house. That way you don't have to worry about walking all the way down there and crossing that awful county highway and risking your life to get to the mailbox.... Hopefully he won't give you grief about that... Of course, knowing him, he'll probably tell you to raise your front door 8" before he'll deliver... :(

Well, I'm off to bed... I do hope you have had a good evening! Sweet dreams to my Sweet Mommy!!!

    Love you MUCH MUCH!

  37. Oh, and this is for tomorrow!!! I thought the snowman was REALLY cute! Was talking to Marsha earlier about how all the excitement, need to celebrate and such has dwindled and I'd rather just sit quietly with my loved ones safe at home (away from the drunk drivers that will FLOOD the streets tomorrow night) and if we would like just having a drink at midnight... Or before if we get too tired!!! Hee hee hee...
However, when I was a kid, I'd always want to be up for midnight as though this fantastic occurrence would ONLY happen if I was awake; otherwise we'd be stuck in the same year forever! Now it's a happy day to know we've made it another year, but I know it'll happen whether I'm awake at midnight or not! :)

    SO....

  38. What's funny is that's not the official motto of the post office. But I'm glad they'll get you your mail every day! I did get your card! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

    LOVE YA!
