"American" Monkeys, Our FDA, (And Other Primates)...

Good Friday Morning...

I have been up for quite a while, just reading and running through your blogs...

And to my attention came yet another (UNpublicized) Pet Food Recall. More specifically a DOG FOOD RECALL.

Am wondering how many of you have the following brands on your shelves, or in your treat buckets?

This from www.petconnection.com ...

Apparently WalMart has done some testing, and pulling of products. A very brief synopsis of this story read as follows:

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. quietly stopped selling two brands of dog treats in July, after customers voiced concerns that the Chinese products may have caused their pets to fall ill, but no recall has been announced, a company spokeswoman confirmed.

The world’s largest retailer started pulling Chicken Jerky Strips from Import-Pingyang Pet Product Co. and Chicken Jerky from Shanghai Bestro Trading on July 26, spokeswoman Deisha Galberth said late Monday.

Wal-Mart also placed a computerized block on all cash registers to prevent workers from selling the products, Galberth said.

"When we took it off shelves at the end of July, we pulled it based on the customer feedback so we could do testing prior to announcing anything publicly," Galberth said. "That’s why did not make a public announcement — it was still going through the testing process."

WHAT????

...And where was our FDA notification???

I have gone to the FDA's website and have emailed them, asking them just that. No reply as of yet, but I sure will let you know if anything DOES get done, or addressed in response.

In addition to all of these targeted foods, (now their mother companies are defendents in a class action lawsuit):

"The Defendants targeted in the Complaint produce pet foods under a wide array of brands and names including: Pedigree®, Sheba®, Goodlife Recipe®, Royal Canine, Iams®, Eukanuba®, Science Diet®, Prescription Diet®, 9 Lives®, Amore®, Gravy Train®, Kibbles-n-Bits® and Nature’s Recipe®, Snausages®, Milk Bone®, Pup-Peroni®, Meaty Bone®, Canine’s Carry Outs®, Jerky Treats®, Wagwells®, Alpo®, Beneful®, Beggin’ Strips®, Dog, Cat, Puppy and Kitten Chow®, Fancy Feast®, Friskies®, Mighty Dog®, Deli-Cat®, Pro Plan®, Purina One®, Natural Choice® Dog and Cat Products, Max® Dog Products, Max® Cat Gourmet Classics, Natural Choice® Complete Care® for cats, Ultra™ Products for dogs, Americas Choice Preferred Pets, Authority, Award, Best Choice, Big Bet, Big Red, Cadillac, Companion, Compliments, Demoulus Market Basket, Eukanuba, Fine Feline Cat, Food Lion, Food Town, Giant Companion, Hannaford, Hill Country Fare, Hy-Vee, Iams, J.E. Am thinking this is quite sick of them all...

And just what will it take for us AMERICANS

~

Don't Feed the dragon

~

to actually BUY American,

with ALL American ingredients/parts???

Now, go check your pantries...

(I'll wait)...

Then, ON to my blog...

.

.

As many of you know, (or not), CASEY is a HUGE fan of anything simian and primordial... She has many monkeys, apes, gorillas, and orangutans in her little collections of stuffed animals etc.

,

,

This is/WAS one of KC's stuffed animals after Kelli and I had shaved Mr. Miller.
.
hehehe

.

.

The one at the very top is also a shorn Miller Ape. It is/WAS a bank... (I just am not too sure what she did with these two things after I had them covered in Mr. Millers fur)...

And my thoughts go back to late March of 2000...

Casey and I had taken a walk back to the woods to check on windstorm damage to the campsite. There really was plenty of mess to see.

One tree had fallen straight across the camp, some had toppled over the cliffs; and as we walked around there was still a great deal of wind. The wind in the trees made it almost impossible to hear anything with the leaves on the ground blowing around, and the taller pine trees creaking with each gust.

Kinda creepy to be in there at that point, so I took my little pictures and we left.

This was long before I'd ever gotten my digital camera... And so I'd snapped off about 5 pictures to make sure I had one that was acceptable...

We had a wake/showing to go to that evening. One of my friends had just passed from lung cancer. Before I went to that prayer service, I dropped off my film at the corner store, so it would be developed and ready for me when Wanda's service was over.

...Looking over the prints before paying for them, I immediately asked her for an 8 X 10 of one of them...

Imagine what I captured on one of those pictures, making its way across the campgrounds, from one ravine to the other!!!

Like I said, it was windy.

I was trying to focus on Miss Casey.

Neither one of us saw/heard anything out of the ordinary.

Nor was anything on any other of those pictures...

.

.

(Yes, Deb, you MAY steal it and try to figure it out)...

.

.

That is a frickin' monkey if I ever saw one. The caves and the ravines in the woods making for perfect cover. (But what about the winters)???

Showing the picture to the gal at the NEW ZOO when they had come in for lunch one day... She said it was a baby bigfoot! (On my parents graves, I swear she said that without batting an eye). She also said that in the 2 days since I'd taken the picture that he and his mama could be miles and miles away by then...

I showed it to all my customers too. Some had some really weird ideas. Others wanted to go camp there...

We have never seen this again/since.

Any ideas????

Have a grand weekend.

XOXO
Anne

By Ian Parker Special to PA SportsTicker

RICHMOND, Virginia (Ticker) -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was suspended by the NFL on Friday after signing a plea agreement in which he admits to playing a role in the killing of dogs as part of a larger dogfighting operation.

Vick filed the plea earlier Friday ahead of an appearance in federal court Monday, when he will plead guilty to charges of organizing dogfighting and conducting an enterprise including gambling and the sponsoring and transporting of dogs in dogfighting operations.

Later on Friday, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced Vick has been suspended indefinitely without pay.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank's reaction was terse and predictable.

"Today, Michael Vick admitted his guilt to very serious charges related to his earlier indictment," Blank said in a statement. "His admissions describe actions that are incomprehensible and unacceptable for a member of the National Football League and the Atlanta Falcons."

In a summary of facts accompanying the plea agreement, Vick admitted that six to eight dogs killed in April of this year died as a result of the "collective efforts" of himself and two of his three co-defendants, Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips.

"Peace, Phillips and Vick agreed to the killing of approximately 6-8 dogs that did not perform well in "testing" sessions at 1915 Moonlight Road and all of those dogs were killed by various methods, including hanging and drowning," the summary states. SICK. SICK. SICK.

"Vick agrees and stipulates that these dogs all died as a result of the collective efforts of Peace, Phillips and Vick."

The summary also states that Vick, Phillips, Peace and the fourth defendant Tony Taylor, 'tested' several dogs in 2002 to determine which were good fighters.

"Vick was aware that Phillips, Peace and Taylor killed a number of dogs that did not perform well in testing sessions around this time," the summary says. "Vick did not kill any dogs at this time."

The summary outlines the story of how the operation - known as the "Bad Newz Kennels" - began in 2001 and continued until April of this year. The operation was largely funded by Vick, including money bet on the outcome of fights. Vick has denied he personally gambled on fights.

"Most of the 'Bad Newz Kennels' operation and gambling monies were provided by Vick," the statement says. "When 'Bad Newz Kennels' won a particular fight, the gambling proceeds were generally split by Taylor, Phillips and, sometimes, Peace.

"Vick did not gamble by placing side bets on any of the fights. Vick did not receive any of the proceeds from the purses that were won by 'Bad Newz Kennels'."

The summary states that Vick paid for the house, in Surry County, Virginia, where the dogs were kenneled and where numerous fights were staged.

Peace, Phillips and Taylor have all pleaded guilty to the allegations of killing dogs and gambling.

Vick, 27, could face up to five years in prison. (Not even close enough).

The charges against Vick, one of the most exciting quarterbacks in the NFL, have left his career in serious jeopardy. (Aw, poor baby).

Goodell wrote to Vick on Friday to inform him of his suspension, which may yet become a lifetime ban. (Well, let's HOPE so)!???

Goodell's letter was damning in its tone.

"Your admitted conduct was not only illegal, but also cruel and reprehensible," Goodell wrote. "Your team, the NFL, and NFL fans have all been hurt by your actions." (not to mention the innocent, beaten to death, dogs)!!

However gruesome admissions regarding the deaths of several dogs are, it is Vick's admission that he funded gambling on dogfights - even though he says he did not profit from the bets - that is the more serious offense in the NFL's eyes, as it violates the league's strict anti-gambling code.

***Clearly the man has NO conscience... This is what he said last month when the doggie~doo~Doo hit the fan... Vick pleaded not guilty to the same charges last week and said in a written statement that he looked forward to "clearing my good name." He also pleaded with the public to resist a rush to judgment. The summary of facts signed by Taylor supports the indictment's claims that the dogfighting ring executed underperforming dogs by drowning, hanging and other brutal means. Taylor admitted shooting one dog and electrocuting another when they did not perform well in test fights in the summer of 2002. (From here).

"Your plea agreement and the plea agreements of your co-defendants also demonstrate your significant involvement in illegal gambling," Goodell continued. Pete Rose "gambled" kids... ~Honestly, I don't think ANY of us are upset about the damned gambling, (legal or otherwise)!!!

"Even if you personally did not place bets, as you contend, your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL player contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player."

Goodell also told Vick that he had violated the league's personal conduct policy.

The commissioner will now wait for the legal process to run its course before deciding how long Vick's suspension should run. A life ban is possible under the NFL's rules.

In 2005, Vick signed a 10-year $130 million contract with the Falcons, the richest contract in NFL history to that date. The deal guaranteed Vick at least $44 million, but the Falcons may now seek to recover some of that money. (If they are lucky, they can maybe get $22~million of it back).

"I have advised the Falcons that, with my decision today, they are no longer prohibited from acting and are now free to assert any claims or remedies available to them under the Collective Bargaining Agreement or your NFL player contract," Goodell wrote. YAY?

In his statement, Blank backed the move by Goodell. Um, don't we ALL?

"We respect and support the Commissioner's decision today to place Michael Vick on an indefinite suspension," the statement said. "As with other actions he has taken this year, the Commissioner is making a strong statement that conduct which tarnishes the good reputation of the NFL will not be tolerated.

"We hope that Michael will use this time, not only to further address his legal matters, but to take positive steps to improve his personal life."

One possible option for Vick to resume his playing career was taken away when the Canadian Football League released a statement that he would not be eligible to compete north of the border.

"In response to media inquiries regarding the possibility of Michael Vick playing in the CFL, I would like to clarify that any NFL players, who are currently under contract or serving a suspension, are prohibited from signing a CFL player contract as outlined by the League's governing documents," CFL commissioner Mark Cohon said.

The NAACP has gotten in on the action. CLICK HERE.
That article came out the end of last month.
Wonder what they will say now?
.

Just an added PS on what the NAACP has now suggested for Michael Vick...

How very sick of them, and of anyone who might believe this type of sickness/addiction can actually be 'cured' and/or forgotten...

In 4 little words: "I DON'T THINK SO."

**********And on to the FDA**********

.

Once again vague, and yet perhaps promising in its own vague way...

Dear Anne: Thank you for contacting FDA's Center for Veterinary Medicine.

The link you provided below involves the news that Wal-Mart has "pulled and held" Chicken Jerky Strips manufactured by Import-Pingyang Pet Product Co and Chicken Jerky manufactured by Shanghai Bestro Trading with UPC 0087784900006 and item number 839751.

The statement can be found at: http://www.walmartfacts.com/articles/5241.aspx

FDA is aware of 11 consumer complaints related to chicken jerky pet food products. We are actively investigating the matter and conducting analysis for multiple different chemical and microbiological contaminants. We have tested numerous samples of chicken jerky pet treats for possible contaminants including melamine.

To date we have NOT detected any contaminants. We are continuing to test. We have not issued a recall but if we find evidence of any contaminants with chicken jerky products, we'll notify the public.

We have also reviewed the lab report from Wal-Mart which mentions the presence of low levels (20 ppm) of melamine in one of the samples tested. At this time, the FDA has not been able to verify the finding. This level of melamine would not be expected to result in any animal illness or injury. If you have fed a particular pet product to your pet and suspect that it is making your animal ill, we would recommend you both take the animal to a veterinarian and report it to the FDA http://www.fda.gov/opacom/backgrounders/complain.html.

We hope you find this information helpful. Sincerely, CVM Home Page

Their email was this: CVMHomeP@CVM.FDA.GOV
