I have heard nothing further, except that the game was already canceled before this happened- and that MN will be issuing a statement later this morning.
Rumor has it that Minneapolis has upwards of 2 feet of snow.
If they would at least tell me that no one was hurt, I could/would start making jokes about The Vikings being allowed to finish their regular schedule in Green Bay. No worries about any roofs here! hehehe
Why are there no heating elements on these roofs? Knowing that MPLS is a critical line for all snowstorms... Kinda stupid not to have that available for blizzards. (Or was the contractor so arrogant that they actually believed the people that patterned it all)?
They would have to engineer some kind of heating for runoff too, but even I could come up with a plan for that; and have the runoff enter the sewer lines then. Or hey how about being smart enough to use that water for flushing toilets? Sheesh. What a bunch of yahoos...
Prayers that no one was inside. Heating elements would be sensible therefore not to be considered. Besides, if you had heating elements int he roof, that would jack up the electric bill and then they would naturally raise ticket prices to cover their losses. So no heating elements is really for the benefit of the consumer. (I WISH I had a sarcasm font on here)
Sweet Sissy Snotball; You made me laugh! HAHAHA (I love your sarcasm, and didn't even need a font)!
What? Another problem? Heating elements would have to run on stored solar energy. They will raise their ticket prices anyway, so what's a few more bucks?
XOXO Me
Off to do a few pictures now. Be back later... I hope.
Because I believe even I-94 has yet to reopen... Too dangerous in the meantime. The snow removal would not have happened in a timely enough fashion, even if the roof had not collapsed, and there would have been no parking available for the ticketholders.
Sheesh. They would all be welcome to come play in Green Bay! hehehe
You can see the roof start to sag, then a small tear opens, snow trickles through, and then it is like a dam bursting... the rip just unzips open and a TON of snow comes down and buries the entire half of the field.
I was wondering, when I saw it fall it looked like fairly loose snow so I was thinking would a Helicopter been able to blow the snow off ? I have no idea really just a thought but, whats that laughing I can hear ??
Not sure, but I think I heard that it is strong enough to walk on. (They estimated the weight of the snow at that of THREE 747's).
It was a heavy snow when it came down. so until the moisture went down there would be no blowing it off. Unfortunately, cranking the heat up only assured that the snow remain heavy.
Why, (& especially since this roof has proven to be unreliable 2 other times), has Minnesota NOT been more proactive about doing something?
Are they waiting for the stadium to be FULL next time???
omigod!
ReplyDeleteWow, I hope no one was hurt.

He knew about the snow...seema the game had been postponed to Monday night because of snow...wonder what they will do now.
ReplyDeletebecause the roof is inflatable. They had the inside heaters blasting trying to melt it but it came too fast.
ReplyDeleteno one was hurt, they have it on video but are holding for post game broadcast. ETA in the next 30 minutes.
game was cancelled because between blizzard and now -20 degrees, the city is shut down.
ReplyDeletethe roof is just "icing" on the cake.
HOLY HECK!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just saw the video! YIKES!.

ReplyDeleteI also wondered why they hadn't cleaned off some of the snow but who knows . It's hard to believe in this day and age this could happen lol
ReplyDeleteit was too cold and windy for aircraft....
ReplyDeleteit is not strong enough to walk on.
Their idea was to crank up the heat inside and hope for the best..... and leave the cameras running for the worst.
