Hes still little and he was born early. The feeding tube is mostly just to make sure he gets enough nourishment without wearing him out and causing him to use too many calories. I had two early babies and my understanding this is not unusual or extreme(at least thats what I was told). Yes, I know lots has been learned since I had my sons.
Both of my sons were so little (both less than 4 lbs) and they were born early enough that they did not learn the sucking response before birth. So for them sucking a bottle was work and would cause them to lose more weight. It was like a catch 22 so they used the feeding tube until they gained enough weight and learned how to suck on a bottle.

I guess morysa's experiences on her two sons help explain why Samuel is back on his feeding tube....to get more and better nourishment.
