Last week the Associated Press created a firestorm by sending a DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) notice to the liberal news aggregation blog called the Drudge Retort. (Not Drudge Report). They accused the site of infringing on their copyright by including excerpts of AP stories. They also announced that they will start charging bloggers, or anyone for that matter, who post as little as 5 words on their sites. I do agree that cutting and pasting an entire story or not linking to the original source is wrong, but the AP is going way beyond the copyright laws by insisting that excerpting as little as 5 words amounts to an infringement.

  2. I'd like to see how people get around this. I bet it's just hysterical. I would add the word (theived) after every 5 words. It's weird that the press is trying to cut back on it's chances of people seeing them. It's called free publicity people!! If you don't like how people are interpreting it, it's called freedom of speech... How ironic that is. I'd like to say that I've stopped being suprised by people's stupidity, but I think people are just getting stupider and stupider. That said, I'll go read the link that I'm ranting about. :)
