[My] Life in Wisconsin

Drains. December. And Andrew

My shower...
Wait, it figures in, I promise.

Good Morning, and Happy December!

Not sure how much snow we got- Maybe about 3 or 4 inches of the white fluffy stuff... Hard to tell as it blows around the yard.

And this morning,
just as the dawn was breaking...

.
.

It is currently 26 degrees-
Not so bad until you figure in the 'breeze'; which will be about 20 mph all day; and gusting to 30.
That adds a bit more chill to being outside.

I am thinking that I do not wish to get out and shovel until the winds die down.
(With any luck, that might be next March).
hehehe

I woke yesterday with a bit of a migraine-

.
I took my little pills, and still my head could have gone either way.
I decided to go stand in a warm shower for a while. But first ran the washer full of water so it could wash a load while I was showering.

The day got a little better as I emptied the pockets of a pair of jeans I had thrown in the hamper...

hehehe
I always LOVE these little 'finds'...
.
.

I load the washer and start the load.
I get in the shower and let the warm water run all over my head.

Getting out of the shower I hear the laundry still agitating.
This is good timing, as I have been caught every now and then still in the tub when it goes to rinse- (Generally a very HOT awakening).

As I towel dry, the washer goes into it's first drain cycle. My washer drains outside through the sump pump hosing...

Suddenly I hear the darn thing draining all over my back entrance.
(That #@%!ing hosing must have froze up on me).

Since I am naked as the morning I was born, there is no way I am dashing back there to shut the darn thing off either.
(The increased B/P does nothing to help my head)...

Kind of a drastic way to bring up the humidity on the house.
Oh well.
.
.

Punk growls more than a few times at the noise coming through the register from the back entrance.
With her ears perked up, crooked, and cockeyed, she is just not quite sure what she was ready to protect me from either.

I throw on a pair of sneakers and go back there, knowing I would not like what I would see. There are pretty little bubble suds all over, and almost reaching to the basement steps.
I tiptoe through the water and suds, and shut the washer off.
As I peek out the back door, not a single drop of graywater has made it out the end of that drainhose.

The high yesterday was to get to about 33 degrees, so I had to wait to finish that load until the hose thawed out.

Back to the bathroom then, damning the drain in the back, Punk knew that those cockeyed ears needed cleaning as she surveyed what I had grabbed from the closet.
Yes, her paws needed a bit of attention too...

She is not real big on this but knows she gets a nice treat after,
So she humors me anyway.
.
.

The back entrance drained very slowly, and my rug was completely drenched...
I pitched it out the back door sometime yesterday afternoon- after I'd tired of the Packer Game (rare).

As I tossed that rug out, I noticed that i had never put the winter window in the screen door. So that got done too.

A bit warmer back there now- those breezes I'd spoken of earlier will be coming straight at that door.

Since I am not decorating this year,
perhaps I'll just hang a bulb out my window
onto the shrubs...

.
.

I'd better close- I still have a laundry room floor to scrub, snow to move, and that rug (now buried and frozen solid) to find and hang on the line.

Love to all-
Have a Mah~velous Monday!

XOXO
Me

  1. Maybe its time to move the hose into a basin in the house.
No room for a slop sink?
How do you manage all winter?

    Sweet Bug;
Truly this happens SO very rarely- I don't think it happened at all last year.
For it to freeze up, the wind has to blow perfectly and with perfect timing when there would actually be water in the hose.

More often than not, it's a critter that decides to crawl up that little hose...
    hehehe

I didn't go check what, if anything came out of the hose... maybe it was a critter- If there is nothing there then its frozen.
I do have a sink and a floor drain in the laundry room, back entrance. That drain as about a foot and a half away from the washer too.
It just won't drain right is all, and my back prohibits plunging.

  3. We are getting snow flurries right now, we might actually see our first accumulation of the year today. A total of one slushy inch. Its 33 now with a high of 35, so we'll see.

Sorry to hear about your flooded entrance, and even more sorry about your head. I hope they both get 'well' soon.

Punk sounds like quite a sport. Our dogs have been on a rampage lately and Mark is tempted to relocate them....to the pound. They each seem to be OCD about something and lately it has been a combined mess. They were out at 1am last night and when we woke up at 7 we found they had both used the carpet for a toilet. Not a good way to convince him they should stay. Needless to say I want to upgrade my carpet cleaner for a full fledged Hot Steam Cleaner. Its the only way to go with all the scrubbing I do.

I am sorry to hear you are not decorating this year but I understand why with Caseys surgery and all. I hope you get to see extra beauty in every one elses decor this year.

Oh I am mad at your dogs FOR you.
Punk farted last night, and I wasn't paying attention til I got the 'whiff'-
It was horrid... and for a minute I actually checked these two dogs and their surroundings.
And God bless them, neither have pooed or peed anywhere close to the house let alone IN it.

Now for your dogs, I really would kennel them both up at night. "UNTIL" anyway.

You will have to ask Santa for a steam cleaner though.

About the decorating... I figure with us leaving mid December, and possibly not getting home til February; I don't think I would like to come home to UNdecorate.

I will try to enjoy everyone elses.
Perhaps as it grows closer I truly will, but for right now, even reading about everyone getting ready for their warm cheery Christmases just makes me feel sad.
This too shall pass. like my dayumed head. it is still there- just waiting for something.
(Just that I don't know what.

    Method to my madness there...

  7. I am heading here ( http://www.washyourdog.net/services.htm ) with my dogs later today. They have been outside since I found the mess and now they are covered in mudd. I do not have the energy to do it all at home so I am sold on the idea of someone else cleaning up my mess. Meanwhile I am trying to figure a way to manage them both and avoid the accidents and idiotic behavior. (digging & barking when outside. AND my back yard is full of ruts and trails from nervous pacing. Not to mention not even shock collars keep them from jumping on my glass door and windows when they are ready to come in.) We only have one kennel, so we'll see what I can come up with.

I was thinking the same thing. Is this why they call you the "Flash from Flintville"?

Have a great day and be safe.

  10. I know you absolutely hate the snow but it is just so dang pretty! I know I wouldn't feel that way if I had to shovel it...

Casey still plays with a rubber ducky?? Or did you borrow it?? LOL!

I love when I find money in pockets... I usually find it in my winter coat...

Sucks that your drain got clogged... I know that wasn't fun! But why were you running around the house nekkid??

*makes note to buy Anne a ROBE for Christmas* LOL!

    Hope your day got better!

  11. So I am hoping you finally got the dirty dowgs clean once more?
I went to that site- I wonder why people charge more for a bigger dog because by nature, bigger dogs are easier to bathe.

    What shampoo did you choose?

One in the kennel and one in the bathroom.
    All better now.

    I do not hate snow.
I only hate being cold and having to shovel it. (Worse this year after the jackass).

I did not borrow her little rubber ducky.
    I stole it.

That back entrance floor drain has given me grief for the last ten years. I gave up on trying.

Robe must be extra large to accommodate pajamas, tall, and must be double lined with that fuzzy white fleece stuff.
    Booties to match please.

  15. I used the BLACK ENHANCER For Izzy...the German Shepard mix.
Specifically formulated for dogs with black or dark hair. Professional format with herbs and silk to cleanse, condition, moisturize and bring out the natural black shine.
I used the DEODORIZING For Rosie...The beagle/Pointer mix
Thoroughly cleans and removes most odors without harsh chemicals or additives.

I have to say I loved the facility and the dogs look great. Everything was easy on your back with raised tubs. The shampoos worked lovely and my favorite part was the high powered dryers so I didnt have wet dogs rubbing on my furniture or going outside like dirt magnets,

I think I am spoiled. I might never bathe them at home again....well, at least not till summer.

They did fine last night....and that is because I got up an hour ago to let them out. All accidents happen between 5:30 and 6:30 am.

  17. SNOW! I want some for Christmas...I want SNOW! As always though, Anne, I love your pics. of snow and your telling of the goings on during the winter months at you home. Never a dull moment.
I don't get to comment as much as I'd like, but am keeping up with Casey's condition and think that you know my prayers are a constant for your family.
    Love you guys. (((Hugs)))

  18. Sweet Shirley!
Pack up the crew and come up.
You can stay here while we are gone- I will give you the code for the system even.
There is one crib, and room for 10 in the beds and on the couch.
Of course you will have to put up with Randy too. (He can sleep in the basement).

So when did you have time to be traveling? hummmmmm Im so very cornfused!

Those pesky drains that freeze up.. I hope you have it all fixed and running smoothly now.. so if your lines freeze up during the winter.. do you not wash all winter? Now I know what that smell is..hehe

I love snow.. but then again.. I dont have to shovel it or drive in it or anything else that would be considered a pain in the booty!
Temps here today.. hit near 80.. but with the nice breeze it was just a wonderful day! Sowwry!
