Cold Slick Roads and Cold Sick Dogs

  magnify
The Morning Sun!
.
.
Happy Wednesday Everyone;
I find I am still "zoning"~
And still a bit under the weather too. (Whatever THAT means, and where ever it came from anyway).
?

The weather is cold. Not sure how much further one can go "under" it.

I did keep my doctor appointment yesterday. Not being thrilled with any blood tests or Xrays, I found that I was even less thrilled with the fact that I am now taking doxycycline 100 mg tabs twice a day. And yet, I did sleep a bit better last night.
Without the tests to prove much of anything, he is treating me for acute bronchitis.
Now usually they do not treat this- But given the fact that I had other symptoms, sneezing, wheezing etc etc etc he opted to treat and not to take any chances.

I go to the same clinic as Casey. His decision to treat me was also based on her condition, and not wanting her to 'catch' anything.
(They SO love her there).

My throat looks like I swallowed a few golf balls.
The rest of me is fine thank you very much.
My lungs are clear. That is a HUGE relief to me.

I still sound like a nasal walrus with a closed throat though.
That too shall pass. (I hope).

In the meanwhile I am not to go outside while it is so cold. (WHAT)?!?
Who the heck else would have brought my dumpster down to the front of the driveway for me this morning?

And on to my title...

Miss Milly has decided to eat her food twice. (Yes, I must now scrub the entrance, but at least she isn't pooing). Knocks on wood.
She does not 'act' sick, if anything she is as wild as Punk when I let them outside.
Just the "barfs".  She is still on the same food and water- Will keep an eye on her.

Miss Punk is fine. She is mad at me for cutting her rations by 1/3rd. (She needs to lose a bit of her 'fluff').

Punk, and her Mama Milly.

Goofy dogs-
Punk still plays with that deflated and frozen solid volleyball.
Milly still loves her orange ball. (Squeakless now).

.
.
?
Cnv1113
Punk would rather remain outside, no matter the weather...
.

Miss Milly, (at 13+ now), is WAY past that foolishness-
says, 'Oh please let me back in!'

.
.
.

I had to go out to the old shed early yesterday morning-
(This, before the doctor had warned me to stay out of the cold temps).
I got all the way out there before I began to feel dizzy.
Kinda (damned) scary to have that happen.
As I balanced myself on the table out in the shed, my 1st thought was that Punk was outside with me, and would surely freeze- (Milly had gone potty, and gone right back inside).
My 2nd thought was that I hoped I would be intelligent enough to pass out BEFORE I froze to death.
I got my silly papers and got back inside as fast as I could.

When I had bought Casey's ice cleats last week, the store only had HER size left.
Kelli stopped out on Saturday with a pair for me! YAY! & God Bless Kelli!
.
?
Cnv1108

They work so good too! No slipping or skidding for me.
And they fit so perfectly snug, right over my boots!

.
.

The roads were quite slick this morning- Salt does not work well when the temps are at zero. (Feels more like 'absolute~zero' if you ask me).
The highway that Kelli takes to work goes over the Fox River.
And of course I had the news on at home. There were a few accidents on the bridge, and the highway patrol had closed it completely.
(The TV was of no help to even tell me which lanes the crashes were in).
  • I called Kelli's cell. It was off.
  • I called her work- No she wasn't there yet.
Grrrrrr...
and worry...

It was a long hour before she finally called and said she was fine. She has now promised to keep her cell phone "ON" while she drives to/from work.
.

I took this picture on the way home from the doctor yesterday.

Look very closely at it...
.
.
.

It is NOT a picture of either a nice rig up on the highway;
nor of a snowy shoulder.

Check out the three trees in the foreground...

Now look below the 3rd one.
Someones car there off the road...
(And more than a little buried).

.
Those are the times I am so thankful that I have been either cautious enough, (or fortunate enough), to get from "Point A" to "Point B" and to remain safe.

.
I took the next one as I headed home on my own little road.
About 5 miles east of home.

Not sure why all my pictures show so much blue.
???
Must be because that is the color of "cold"

.
.
I'd better close and get on with my day.
Casey has an appointment tomorrow with her pain management specialist- AND an 8AM test for h~pylori too. (Am thinking maybe an ulcer on top of everything else)?

The high tomorrow is to be about 3 below zero.
Nasty that.
Oh, so tired I am of winter already.

Love to all. Stay warm.

XOXO
Anne

  1. Some...and I do mean very little.....of that winter blast is suppose to be coming all the way down into Alabama. But, being on the outer edge of it all means nothing to those smack dab in the middle of it. Sometimes I think we are lucky but then I see the pretty snow pictures and then I want what you have. But mostly because of how pretty it is. I don't want to walk in it or drive in it unless the roads were all clear and there was no slipping and sliding involved. I don't like falling down. Probably why I quit roller skating! LOL! Oh...and I don't like the chance of those pipes freezing and bursting in the house. Had that happen to us out in Texas and it aint pretty!

Stay inside and stay warm Anne.

Oh...that chew ball that Miss Milly is playing with gave me the heads up on something I got in an email. I will forward that to you so you can check it out. Hopefully it is not the same ball.

  2. I don't like falling down either SweetPeachieBaby!
Hence the cleats for the ice! hehehe
I watch the dogs do it all the time, and THEY have four legs. (Methinks they do it on purpose)!

Since I don't sleep all that well during these dangerous days and nights, I run water every hour or so; and in ALL the faucets- This keeps the pipes from freezing- Good to have a leaky faucet in the winter- Too bad I don't have one now.
I worry more about the septic tank and the drainfield freezing up though-
That would be a bigger mess.

I am inside- Going to turn up the heat now.

    XOXO

  4. Gosh I love seeing pictures of Punk and Milly!.......I could not even imagine that kind of cold weather, truly. I would die there I'm certain...or hibernate like a bear. You live in beautiful beautiful surroundings though, something I dont get to experience being a city girl. I hope you feel better soon hon, xoxoxo to you and Casey.

  5. I'm beginning to think Iowa has come to visit me here in Kentucky because it's turned off downright cold here. The wind has really been kicking up its heels making it all the more colder. Luckily, no snow!!! Just plain cold---for here anyway. Nothing like what you have but I don't think I want that either. Single digits tonight and tomorrow night but back to more seasonal temps on Saturday.

Be sure to wear something over your face with it's that cold. I have to do that when it gets cold. Helps keep the ol' lungs warm. LOL!!! Seriously if I don't, I have a hard time breathing.

  6. I am very glad you went to the doctor... And very glad they are treating you...

I hope Ms. Milly just had a lil bug that upset her tummy and it isn't anything to worry about. I love seeing pictures of her and Punkie playing outside in the snow.

3 below just isn't right for a HIGH... I shall try to send you some warm(er) air from Washington... Hope it makes it! LOL

Snuggle up on da couch with a warm Punkie and a blanket and a big bowl full of chili and STAY WARM!!!

    Love Ya!

  10. Good evenin Rock,
Just one more night on that nasty pager... Glad you got to the doctor.. I think its a hoot for him to tell you to stay out of the cold... Now living in an ice bucket like you do.. just how does one stay out of the cold.
My son had a dog that would throw up her food and then re- eat.. Found out it was she was eating too much too fast.. So the solution for them was to give her smaller amounts and they changed dog food to something that had smaller pieces. It was like it got stuck in her throat.
Beautiful shots.. I had to look twice to see that car almost totally covered in snow.. I sure am glad I dont have to drive in that mess, although the few times I have had to drive in ice I have done ok.. slowing way down and not getting into a hurry and not hitting the brakes. I heard on the news that getting stuck in a car like that in this weather your having currently can be extremely dangerous. Hopefully everyone carries an emergency pack in their cars for just an occasion like that.

Yeah for the cleats but if your not supposed to be outside.. seems a bit of a waste to me..hehe

Have a great Thursday and try to stay warm!

  11. I can't tell you how many times I messed this up. It's still not what I expected it to be. Luckily Ms Flintville doesn't mind being used as a testing grounds for new ideas and procedures.

And morysa - it was more than edit, edit, edit. Double that and we may be close to my madness.

  12. hehehe Sweet Bug;
I hear you on that one!

  13. Sweet Pamela;
I always hear "Oh you get used to it." But I am not sure that is accurate for heat or cold.
I think we kind of resign ourselves to it...
Love you for being able to appreciate the "pretty". Forgive me if I do not share your sentiments at the moment.
    hehehe

  14. Sweet Doubtfire!
It is nasty all over- So much for global WARMING.
Could I please borrow your + single digits, just for today?

Oh I had my face (mouth and nose) covered with three layers.
It was still too effing cold for breathing (with bronchitis) I suppose.
Wish the pills would work better. (read "FASTER").

  15. Sweet SlurkieBaby;
Happy you enjoyed those pics. I think the dogs were 'frozen in time'...

Turtleneck. Sweatshirt. Fuzzy jacket. Socks. Booties.
Then, and ONLY then, did I cover up and snuggle on the couch with the dog.

    Chili and antibiotics?
Methinks the couch is too far away from the toidy.
    hehehe

  16. Sweet Pea;

    Milly IS pooing...
    I think.
(If you think I am going out there to see IF she's pooing; well, YOU go watch). hehehe

Methinks that car went in long before the plows came along...
Pity the poor officer who had to put the orange "Move it or Lose it" sticker on it too.

I am OK. Just moving like a snail is all. Kind feeling a little rough around the edges is all.

  18. Sweet Beep-
I think he meant for me to stay INside, not to pack up and move. hehehe

Miss Milly has always been an "at will" eater. Unlike her piggy daughter, she does not overeat.
But a good point about the kibbles being a bit big too. Maybe with her age comes the fact that I should also give her smaller pieces. Will try that.
Knock on wood, she didn't throw up last night...

Oh, and here is a closer view of that car.

    ~

    ~

People should have sense enough not to drive white cars around in winter...
    hehehe

Unless the freezing rain and such is thicker than 1/3rd of an inch, one can always drive on the shoulder of the road too. The little rocks provide traction as long as they are not all ice covered too

I will heal, and will be able to go outside once again in the snow and ice. The cleats will be lovely then!

  20. I am thinking your right about the 'blue' in your pictures :)
Milly is such a sweet ole dog, gosh I love her little face!
It took me 15 minutes to see that car....I thought the car was a dirty snow bank, and the little orange thing was the car. I was thinking "how could anyone make a car out of that?"...hehehe. I think the orange thing is on the antenna, am I right?
Good to hear you got to see a doc and even better to hear your lungs are clear, YAY!
Now do your best to listen to that doc and stay warm. Are you taking Casey to her appt? Better bundle yourself up like a mummy if you are :)

We finally got a measurable snowfall, its maybe almost 2 inches, but you can still see the tops of the blades of grass in the yard. The only problem is it brought a terribly cold temperature with it. The kids are on a 2 hour delay(for wind chill) this morning and can't even go out and play in the snow :( I know, I know, your saying I'm a loon to be complaining when your being cursed by Canada. Sorry Anne, I do enjoy teasing you a bit ; )

  21. Here's for you and those babies...
    ~
A WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST FRIDAY. COLDER AIR WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA TODAY AND REMAIN IN PLACE THROUGH FRIDAY. THE VERY COLD TEMPERATURES WILL COMBINE WITH WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS TO PRODUCE DANGEROUSLY COLD WIND CHILLS OF 10 TO 24 DEGREES BELOW ZERO. THOSE PLANNING TO VENTURE OUTDOORS SHOULD USE COMMON SENSE AND DRESS WARMLY...MAKING SURE THAT ALL EXPOSED SKIN IS COVERED.
    http://weather.yahoo.com/storm/USOH0907.html
    ~

"Common Sense" seems to be very lacking in todays society, doesn't it?
Happy that Mark has his office at home too. (He's too old now to be out and about in this weather).

I think our own advisory only goes til noon tomorrow so warmer air IS coming...
    So they say...

Yes, the tag should be affixed to the antennae.

See what I mean about Canada infiltrating EVERYONE on my friends list here?
    Sorry about that.
    hehehe

  23. I've been sick for a week with a cruddy cold, cough, headache, ear ache (only have one working ear) etc...and it's warm and lovely here which just goes to show that winter colds are no respecters of winter weather. I don't know which is worse, having a cold when it's cold outside or having one when it's gorgeous and warm outside. I think it sux both ways. I hope you get to feeling better! Your pup too. My vet recommended adding plain white rice to dry dog food and feeding my dogs that when they have "the suds" (as we call the doggie barfies). They do very well on it. It's funny, being nurses my husband and I first tried putting the dogs on clear liquids which did not work and the vet told us dogs are different than people and you have to feed them solid food to move it out of their system. Learn sumfin new every day. :D
