This little quote is quite thought-provoking, and challenges us all to go a little deeper within ourselves.

"Politics is NOT a spectator sport. Being stagnant for fear of being accused of certain associations just means one or another AstroTurf strategies was a success." ~Dances With Puma

By the way, for those who are unfamiliar with the term "astroturf"[ing]:

Astroturf[ing] refers to apparently grassroots-based citizen groups or coalitions that are primarily conceived, created and/or funded by corporations, industry trade associations, political interests or public relations firms.

As W. Greider put it, think "democracy for hire." (Think "fear propaganda" is what I say).

---- Oh yeah, it could always mean that "ugly fake grass" too... hehehe

  1. Word origin for "Astroturfing"

The term is said to have been used first in this context by former US Senator Lloyd Bentsen. It is wordplay based on grassroots democracy efforts – truly spontaneous undertakings largely sustained by private persons – as opposed to politicians, governments, corporations, or public relations firms.

AstroTurf refers to the bright green artificial grass used in some sports stadiums, so "astroturfing" refers to imitating or faking popular grassroots opinion or behaviour.

THIS PRACTICE IS SPECIFICALLY PROHIBITED by the code of ethics of the Public Relations Society of America, the national association for members of the public relations profession in the United States.
As a private organization, the most significant punishment PRSA can hand out to members who engage in astroturfing is revocation of membership in the association.

Although the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) does not specifically mention astroturfing, it does require honest communication.

Typical.. of some folks .. if you disagree with them then they seem to think its ok to call another names..

  4. Sweet Beep;
    Word.
You will get called many many names if you are posting anything in the leastwise political.

Ask JT, he's called me plenty of uncalled for names now hasn't he?!? And only because I asked for links and whatnot, and because I disagreed with him.

The shoe is now on the other foot, and it hurts. (I have told JT about inflicting pain also many times).
So I learned about inane name~calling very quickly. He posted NOT ONE SINGLE LINK to anything I wanted to learn/verify.

    Is name~calling fair play?
I think you know the answer to that- and probably since you were about 4 years old too.

Now as far as "some" folks as you say...

It IS typical (and kind) to verify truths to any subject where there might be disagreement.

I have yet to see any verifiable links, (besides linking to the damned bill itself), come from anyone who is the least bit 'against' this bill.

Everyone 'against' the bill seems to hide behind "I heard this and that" yet they refuses to quote a source, ie: where they heard it from. That is only more water cooler gossip as far as I am concerned.

OR they claim their writing as their own thoughts when everything can be found on the internet, almost verbatim in a zillion other rants and blogs. It is almost like someone sends out a newsletter and says "post this" ~and those zillion people blindly agree and post it all over the net; no matter how much bs is in it.

I just do not understand that way of thinking.
If anyone wants someone else to understand what they are saying, then it MUST be verifiable.

Good grief, Connie, the people who TRULY want to be educated will NOT agree with anyone simply because they say so.
It would be asinine to do so.

Intelligent and responsible people WANT to learn.
They have had enough of the truths being hidden, or overshadowed by anger or fear.
    That's just silly.

Is it tough, and forever frustrating? You betcha it is.

But then again, there are those who WILL NOT learn anyway. Well until that mile is walked in some elses moccasins. And then it might be too late.

There are too many one paycheck away from this all. AND THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW THAT!
    wth?

Lots of words going to be eaten if this all does not go through.

    PS
I singled JT out because you KNOW what he has done to me in the past. All of the swearing, the name calling, and all the other BS, etc.

Know that he is NOT the only one to have done that to me.
He is my example to you only because YOU know that what I wrote above is true.
No he is not alone. But then again, anyone else who did must have plagiarized JT's blog because they had written the same crap, word for word, as he did.

  5. not directed at anyone (honest) but wonders why most name callers hate being name called?
