[My] Life in Wisconsin

Fire!

If It's Not One Thing...
Bad...
...to worse...

.
.
Good Morning All;
I am not too sure exactly where to begin...
Know that the very worst of the storms last night were south of Flintville.
(Just not the damage).

Long story short, EVERYONE IS ALRIGHT.

Was talking to Miss Kelli last night.
(Both on cordless phones; safer that way), while the storm was ongoing...
There were a few claps of thunder that even made Punk wince. And a few streaks of lightening too.
Suddenly Kelli cursed, asking, "What was that?"
Then, "I'll call you back."

Moments later the phone rang.
Kelli.

One of the trees in their front yard had snapped; a large branch hanging precariously on the power lines going to the house.

I asked if they had power?
Yes.
Does Tim have a chainsaw?
Yes.
And 'duh' on me- anybody that has a brain, trees, (and/or woodburners), up here HAS a stinkin' chainsaw and knows how to use it...
Tim and Kelli would have all four; ~brains, trees, chainsaw and a woodburner.

And so, of course I told Kelli I would be down shortly to take pictures...

I threw some clothes on- (was already in my sweats); grabbed a jacket, and the camera and was down the road in a minute.

What I was greeted with when I got there...

.
.

Note the power lines
.
.

See the kitty's eyes in the window?
hehehe

.
.
And one more...
.
.

.
.
Tim already had the chainsaw out.
Hard cutting as the rains still came.
.
.

The power lines being behind him, about 8 yards away.
Kelli and I praying all the while...
.

.
Kelli ran in to grab their raincoats

.The first branch had cooperated with the saw;
The 2nd? Not so much.
.
.

.

Time to get the chains,
(and the big "come~along")...

.
.

Tim's chainsaw remained
abandoned
and very securely in that branch...

And yes, seeing that chainsaw WAS kind of funny~
.

Miss Kelli, soaking wet; spying the chainsaw...
.
.
Tim said to try another strategy...
.
.

Back to the broken tree...

As the wires snapped off the house!
.
.
Hard to keep my lens dry-
But what you cannot see below
is the smoke that came from the chimney
.
.

.
.
911 was called and dispatched quite quickly.

Kelli ran in to grab Mr. Miller, a few cats, and her car keys.
.
.

And was quickly yanked out by one of the firemen too.
(AFTER those animals were out)...

.
.

The trucks filled Cedar Court.
.
.
Kelli and I grabbed the horses;
leading them to the flooded pasture
.

as the smoke filled the backyard...
.
.

As the firemen broke through the outside basement access door.
.
.
The origin hard to locate, being the basement was filled with smoke...

An electrical fire.

Damage caused by a bolt of lightning that had hit the tree; burning most the wiring in their basement.
Also taking out the well.
.
.
Wisconsin Public Service arrived to shut the remaining power off at the road.
Tim and WPS remained there.
The wiring being reran over the offending tree, but not turned back on yet.

Kelli and I (and Mr. Miller), came here to try to unwind.
(She did not sleep til 5AM, and then only for an hour).
.
.

Clearly, Mr Miller did not have that same problem.
.
.
Todays jobs are well defined for Kelli and Tim~
The basement door being broken in, left all the runoff going directly down there. It is deep to say the least.
The electricians have been called; as has Weslow Water.

As they work down there, I will bring Mr. Miller to the vet. He had an appointment scheduled already; too important to cancel.

And I had best get my butt in gear... He goes in for 9AM

Hope all is well with all of you

Love to you always.

XOXO
Anne

  2. When I saw the pictures of Tim cutting the tree WITH A LIVE POWER LINE ON IT I thought... that's a good way to get electrocuted!!

I wish I was there to lend a hand. At least Kelli and Tim and their four-leggeds are OK, and the house, for the most part, is OK too. I hope they have good insurance.

  3. I was worried for a second about cutting so close to the power lines, then I saw all the orbs....he was in good hands.

And clearly being watched over as they were OUTSIDE and awake when the fire started.

  4. Good thing they were there AND outside! But still, not so much fun to deal with I'm sure. Hope they are all doing okay!

OH man can you imagine if they had not noticed the tree on the lines and been out where they could see the smoke from the chimney.. oh man thats scary!

Im certainly glad they are all ok and the house is not overly damaged!

I can hear you now... Dont do anything til I get there with the camera..hehe Silly Goose!

  10. It WAS awful Sweet Tonya;

I think God was surely listening... As it could have been MUCH worse.

  11. Sweet RT;
I know this is probably a bad thing to admit, but while I was hanging onto Kelli, praying, I was also adding, "please do not let these be the last pictures we have of him..."
Kind of a bad thought to have, right?

After Mr. Miller was brought out, (I put him in the back of my car), Kelli had gone back in to get the cats. Thats when they yanked her back out... and she hadn't found Jack. He is alright though, (another prayer answered).
I am sure they have decent insurance too.

  12. Sweet Pea!
I was still so worried... Since no one could have seen the orbs...
Kelli said her dad was there a few times- (And he's with my own parents already)...

"OUTSIDE and awake"... True, but it gives me the creeps to think that we were right there, worried about the tree, and were oblivious to the fact that the house was burning!

But given the alternative to "OUTSIDE and awake", I am sure evryone will agree that was the best place for them to have been.

  13. Sweet Lisa;
    Your dogs called.
They said to make sure to check on them every now and then, if something like this ever happens around your place.

    You have such smart dogs!

  16. Sweet Bug!
    Yikes/"Yokes" is right!!!
The damage means little compared to what could have been.
And the 'good luck'? Yes, they need just a bit more to restore so much.

  17. Glad all are safe. I cant imagine the toll and expense the cleanup will be. Give Kelli and Tim my best and let them know They are prayed for. Good Luck to the Miller man too :)

  18. Sweet Connie!

That was MY 1st thought as he rounded the corner with it. I have a wooden one here- Just not tall enough.

Tim DID call WPS, they said they were about 3 or 4 hours out, and that was as long as they had no other emergencies.

At least they did know that the lines were there. The mast had been pulled a bit away from the house, but was holding, even though bent a bit.

    About the camera...
    hehehe
Since Kelli and I had been chatting onthe phone as the tree went down, she had called me back...
I said aloud, "ooh, ooh, photo op" and that I would be there in a minute...

Between you and I, I don't think I can stand too much more excitement either!
    hehehe ???

  19. Sweet Bobbie;

You are right, the 'wet mess' part means nothing compared to the what if, and could have been.
Everything is very wet still. maybe a few sunshiney days would help everyone out.

  20. Sweet Rochelle;
You are right. It does kind of stun a person into silence...
    Especially AS it is happeneing.
All I could think of was to get all the furkids and the vehicles out of the yard too.

But I am still laughing at Mr. Miller- (who never rides in anyones car but Kellis)...
We had put him in my car... And moved my car to the neighbors as soon as he got in...
As I went to check on him in the midst of firemen yelling all over, and the noise from all those trucks,

And there he was, sleeping soundly in the back of the rendezvous!
    I laughed at him then.

    Even Mr. Miller!
