[My] Life in Wisconsin

PAINT!

  magnify
Who the heck took this picture???
hehehe
.
.
Good Morning Everyone;
I am beat, having done the west half of the living/dining room yesterday.

First order of the day was to move the heavy wooden bookcase.
It's a cabinet that Grandma had.
So very, very old... My grandmother being born in 1865.

And still, it has it's original glass.
.
.

I didn't realize how much "junk" it could hold either.
.
.
Nor did I realize what I would find behind it,
after I had emptied it out and moved it~
.
.

UGH
Gross, eh?
But, (lucky me),
They were only cobwebs
(so nothing came crawling out at me)!
Say "Yay!"
.
.
The trim and cutting in here being the worst of it all.
(Isn't it always)?
There are 6 windows, one door, one archway, two ceiling lights, nine outlets, two light switches, the thermostat, and a little cubbyhole that serves as a pass~through from the kitchen to the table, and vice~versa.

And it was HOT. (By Flintville, Wisconsin standards).
I ran out of wild cherry pepsi. (Which Casey brought to me after work). Thank you Bobo!
(Damn fine thing I had an extra cigarette or two laying around, or I would have looked MUCH worse than the above picture)!

I did find a bug on the wall by the door...
Weird looking thing too...

.
.

What the heck is it?
(Besides definitely ugly).
It was camera shy and flew out the door with the 'flash'.

Not sure why my wall looks 'pink' either.
It is a subtle grey.
.
.
So I spent the day trimming, cutting, painting...
AND, I had great company too as Delbert McClinton sang almost all day!
(I thank you again, Pea)!

Where the piano was, are three missing floor tiles.
(They weren't missing, until I pulled them up and threw them out).
But they were quite beyond repairing/regluing.
I have extras to put down, but after 50+ years, they sure as heck won't match!

I have a jug of 'Bar Keepers Friend'...
This little bottle is amazing, and works in places you wouldn't expect a soft cleaner to work. Maybe it will help the flooring to match?
(Hey, I said "maybe")...
.
.
After 9 hours of painting, trimming, cutting etc;
(with a break or two),
countless drips,
and even a few cusses thrown in for good measure,

.
.

I EFFING RAN OUT OF PAINT!!!

.
.
OK, no I didn't...
(Just thought that line 'fit' with the picture).
hehehe

It is to be 85 today, 87 tomorrow...
And the possibility of severe storms for the next few days too.
(Sticky and stormy is NO way to go through life).

My little air conditioner is still in the basement.
Lotta good THAT does for me...
Will try to carry it up today and install it.
Installing it is not the problem...
...getting it to the living room is.

I'd better close and get busy before it's too hot to breathe.

I don't know how y'all south of the Mason Dixon Line do it. It would simply kill me to live like this all the time.

Here's hoping y'all have a 'wunnaful' Wednesday!

  1. It's called central air conditioning - and you can't live in the south without it! You're such an open lady, posting pictures of your cobwebs and bugs! I agree that painting isn't that much work, it's all the furniture moving, prepping, and trim work that's tough. But think how nice it will look when you're finished.

  2. HAHAHA!

    Sweet RT!
    Oh, what do I care?
Show me someone who says they haven't got a bug or a cobweb in their house, and I'll show you a liar!
    hehehe

    Love to you

  7. You just moved in! You can't have narfs yet?
    um... Can you???

My first impression as I saw that corner was EWWWWWWW!
Then I realized there were NO creatures anywhere- (Save for "The Sput" who wanted to dust them all by batting his paws)!

Dustwebs/cobwebs I can handle. (Not that I ever care to have them at face level though).

And MOST bugs I can tolerate too.
    Just not the eight~legged variety.

    XOXO

  8. Well, if I were up to it, I'd come help ya out. I love to paint! and it's looking great! I love the old cabinet as I really enjoy antiques. Use to have all kinds of them but they seemed to have disappeared over the years. Except for my silver gravy boat and ladle. Just needs to be cleaned up real good as it as really tarnised. I found it in an old abandoned farm house when I was in high school.

Be sure you are taking plenty of breaks and have lots of ventilation. Go outside for fresh air from time to time as well. Looking forward to seeing the "finished product".

Just thought I'd check in before it's once again off to stretch out in my recliner. I really didn't expect to get this sick from having that tooth pulled but I sure did. Just talked to my supervisor and he ok'd it for me to take another vacation day tomorrow. Think I'm going to need it!

  12. Afternoon Bart!
Now who you stickin your tongue out at? hehe

Paint job is looking great... As you know I love old furniture like that.. They dont make stuff like that anymore.

Thats exactly why I am avoiding pulling furniture out and finding cob webs and who knows what else around here... I know they are there.. I keep thinking(hoping) out of sight out of mind..hehe One of these days gonna have to do it. I used to be so good with that... oh well.
Dont know what that bug is... maybe a mutant that you have uncovered! hehe

Hows that back of yours doing???? Dont over stress it again!!!! Please!!!!! It called this morning said you were overworking it and its thinking about a revolt... you best be very careful.

Bar keepers friend is amazing stuff! sounds like on the hands and knees kind of thing though.. ewwwwwww been awhile since I did that too. Maybe you could strap a brush to a broom handle and scrub the entire thing????? Without brusing your knees.

Hope you have a great relaxing evening.. Lots and lots of hugs!

  13. I think I'll have to wade in here and say BE CAREFUL OF YOUR BACK!! Okay? I'm always kind of alarmed when I see how much dust/webs/junk gets stuck under and behind my furniture. But oh well. It happens. And who really cares anyway?!

    ReplyDelete
  14. HAHAHA...these pictures are priceless. Cobwebs and bugs? Get them all the time...and with this house being darn near as old as I am..

    Take care with the back.

    Oh yeah...Yay!

  15. Sweet BethieBaby!
From one cool chick to another!

I do know how your parents place must have looked. I moved in here after Mom died. (My grandfather had bought the place in the 20's)...
So much stuff. (And more than a few cobwebs too.

    Love to you

    XOXO
    Me

    PS:
It is with deep regret that I must inform you that I haven't weeded a thing lately. Those weeds are fixin' to overrun my whole place...
Oh well! There are worse things... (Aren't there)?

  16. OK Mr. Rick, How did I know you would actually like that picture?
And I think I will have to go away for a while, and then come look at the living room. People come in and say how nice it looks.
Not sure if I even see a difference. (Oh wait, no cobwebs).
HAHAHA (That, about my damned back).

    XOXO

  17. Sweet Nancy"BUG"!
Hmmm Now if ANYone would know if a bug is 'yuck', it would be you, right?
    hehehe
I think the wavy glass is a sign that it was handblown glass. But I'm not sure. I do know that people with 'new' everything don't get to see what I see sometimes.
When I had wondows replaced a few Christmases ago, I left all the wondows on the north side of the living room. There are two that have that old glass yet. Pretty cool to look through during a snowstorm too if you sit just right.

    Thanks for your help too!
Found out the hard way how humid it was yesterday... Sprayed Punk with the hose when I was changing dog waters outside.
She didn't dry off until this morning.

  18. Sweet BEEP!
I was thinking of you when that picture was taken!
    hehehe
Thanks for the comment on the paint job. Now as far as cobwebs (and what else), I was ever so happy NOT to have found any "what elses" anywhere! ... Unless you are counting the mutant bug!

My back is ok... (I didn't get that AC carried up yet)
    But get this...
Remember my foot from last September. The 'stress fracture'?
Is it possible to do it all over again??? Honest to God, it looks/feels exactly the same way that it did then.
(And NO, I am NOT wearing that big @$$ boot when it's 80+ degrees outside).
    Too very weird!
But at least I know why there are long distance calls on my bill now.
    ;-)

I'll kneel on a towel when I scrub the floor.
...Wanted to get on that yesterday, but ended up with company (IN THIS MESS)?
    Oh 'who cares' is right.

I spot clean mostly (and it shows)... But hands and knees cleaning does not bother me to do.

    Relaxing evening?
I slept til almost 6 this morning!

    Love to you

    XOXO

  19. Sweet Lisa,

    Your dogs called...
They said they are afraid that you will paint and they will be quarantined from having any fun for a few days.
AND THEY SAID THEY WANT TO GO SWIMMING AGAIN TOO!

You said, "dust/webs/junk"... You should have seen all the "lost" cat/dog toys we found!
And dust? Don't even get me started!
I thought my things were cheap, erasable, drawing tables.
(No wonder the cat sneezes all the time)!

BINGO!, on the 'who cares' statement too!
If anyone ever dares to show up here in white gloves I will surely die of a coronary from laughing so hard.

    XOXO

  20. Sweet Cat!
    Glad you like my pics!
(And damned happy that others contend with the same crap I do too)!

I thought about NOT posting the pics...
...And then I thought if anyone 'gasps' then they'd damn sure better go check their own stuff!
    hehehe

Parts of this house are 4 times older than I am.

  21. Oh I forgot to tell.. I dont cut in around stuff like the light fixtures and switches.. I remove them .. then when I finish painting I put them back.. NOOOO CUT IN! Around windows and doors I put tape... again .. no cut in.. of course I suck at cutting in.. so I avoid it. The whole time Im putting the tape up.. I keep repeating to myself.. its all about the prep.. its all about the prep..hehe

    Its Thursday! ONe MOre WAkeUp!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Silly ConnieBeep!
    HAHAHA! Isn't THAT the truth!

Now as far as the wall plates go, I remove them too.
(I tried removing the bookcase and the windows, but it didn't work).
    ???
And I don't use masking tape either.
Casey does... But you still have to be ever so careful painting around it, so I figure why go through all that trouble.
I use a small (1.5") angled brush to do that trim work and I have never had a problem that couldn't be wiped on my jeans.

    XOXO
    Me

    hehehe
Happy for yuor wake up too.
As for myself, I hope I wake up more than one more time...
    ;-)

  23. I have no idea what that bug is, but it's pretty big! :D

The living room looks really nice. I'm glad Greg, Buck and Randy were all able to help you out with that... Nice strong backs!

I said "Oh, no!" out loud when I read that you ran out of paint! That would've been bad!

I'm hoping that your head isn't still throbbing from the paint smell... Those fumes are toxic!

    Love you!

my hubby just tore out our above ground pool, (it had to come out) and we were faced with this ugly dirt hole, now we have been laboring with lotsa luv to make it a garden, a slow work in progress, but its coming nice so far, takes time, energy and a lotta pocket money to bring it to life...but its a fun project to start for the first season....

i have posted the some early pix, and will continue as we progress....

i have never ran outta paint while doing projects, but im sure once u have completed the job, all will look simply smashing...!!!
