[My] Life in Wisconsin

Texas; Ike, Jenne, My Family and Friends

.

.

Good Morning Everyone;
As first my heart goes out to Texas...
...To my family ~and also to my many friends there.
Please stay safe.
Godspeed.

As many of you know, my 2nd daughter, Jennifer, lives in Temple Texas.
She and Aaron were married in late 2006.

Our Aaron will be at the Expo Center, where many storm refugees are already. (He is part of the Sheriff's posse).
.

As you all know, this hurricane is bad...
I have just heard the update on TV, (FOX News); saying that this could be a Category 5 now by the time it makes landfall.

GOD BLESS TEXAS.

.

Jennifer and Isaiah will relocate from their home to that of Aaron's mother, to wait this monster storm out. (Her home is sturdier, but surely to lose power there for a time too).
.

My friend "Sweet WyckieBaby" has evacuated already-
from Baytown, Texas.

(Just a bit south of Houston).
Pray she is safe, wherever she is
~with her hubby and her furkids.

My friend Connie ("Sweet Beep"), in Bryan Texas...
I have just spoken to her;
She has assured me that they would be alright.
IF they were sticking around.
They will be leaving shortly for a weekend in Arkansas.
More prayers...
She has promised to blog as soon as they arrive to Arkansas

Please click on their names for their sites.

I have tried unsuccessfully, twice, to call Jenne this morning- Her cell phone carrier says the call cannot go through at this time. I rather imagine those cell phone towers are quite jammed up...
I have left her a note through Multiply.

So many of you are wondering about Master Gabriel.
He is well. I was able to pick him up yesterday afternoon so he could visit with us. (Roberta, myself and Casey too).
He is well-taken care of, and even seems to have a brighter spirit.
***I am sorry that I cannot respond to every personal message on here; but I promise to try to keep up with your comments below too.

Here is one of my comments back to Sheila yesterday on the blog about Gabriel and his health and welfare...
"It is I who is blessed by everyone here.
And
as far as the legal system realizing how my family can pull together?
You have said a mouthful...
...Suffice to say that you don't know the half of that yet.
But you will."

Did you miss that blog about Gabriel? CLICK HERE

Back to Jennifer...
Having spoken to Aaron just as soon as they'd heard about Gabriel, Jennifer and Aaron have agreed that for them to try to adopt Gabriel would be best for all concerned.

Jenne has already spoken to the intake worker here.
Seems everyone balks at the "Texas" end of it.
Too much paperwork?!? Oh give me a damn break...

But then speaking to the supervisor, Jennifer reiterated my own first thoughts...
(Everything copied in maroon is Jennifers thoughts)...

"
Gabriel's life should not be compromised because somebody is afraid to file some paper work. "

"When she heard we were in TX she said something about it taking a lot of time because of an "Interstate Compact Agreement" where they have to contact TX and TX has to do a thorough check of our home. She didn't seem too keen on the idea. I told her I didn't care how long it took."

And then these words from a later note...

"I'm no hero.
(We are) just doing what any self respecting (Christian) people would do."

"Also, pray for us. 'Ike' is going to hit us with constant 75+mph winds, with the probability of tornadoes, and we aren't expected to have any power for 2-3 days.

"Aaron is in the Sheriff's posse and will probably be at the Expo Center where they're housing (a huge # of) evacuees and National Guard, most of the weekend."

.
"No HERO" Jenne?
You are quite wrong about that. You are all my heroes.
And many many prayers are going up for you all.
You are the daughter I raised. God Bless you for that.

My mother, your grandmother, has surely left her imprint upon your hearts.
And in Mama's own words, "Difficult, but not impossible."
Can you hear her?

Time will tell what happens-

First things first for everyone-
Get through and past Ike.

For all of my family and friends, please be safe wherever you are and with whatever you do.

And try to have a good weekend...
God Bless us every one...

My Love to all.

XOXO
Anne

  1. ...such a great spirit to pass down to the next generations!

Wonderful news about Jenne and Aaron wanting to adopt Gabriel. And don't you worry it'll get done, in time, and all will be well.

I'm glad you got to spend some time with Gabriel. Did Roberta behave herself around him?

My sister is in San Antonio, they'll probably get some strong wind gusts and rain, maybe loose power if trees topple down. But she'll be ok, she knows what to do, she and I experienced a few Hurricanes growing up in Miami.

  5. Sweet RT!
I waited to hear back from her that I could share this good news with everyone too!
    Cool, eh???

    Jennifer has emailed me:
"Forecasts have changed here. Not supposed to get much at all. It should cool off considerably though, so that's good news.
Calm and sunny skies. ( A little disappointing if you ask me)."

Nope. Not disappointing to me in the least...
    hehehe

More prayers going out to your sister too.
Growing up in Miami... I read your stories, and completely forgot about the weather there. (Better do a blog about your own experienes with it all).

    You Silly angel...
Berta called down there and told Jenne she would agree to it.
then yesterday she told me that she wouldn't because Jenne said she wouldn't give Gabe back.
(WTH does she think adoption is)???

I hope everything goes well too...
Jenne is having an awful time getting people to even call her back...

  16. I'm glad to hear that it won't be as bad, but still will be praying... I don't trust meteorologists... Don't know why...

My prayers go out to everyone down there, especially Jenne, Aaron, Isaiah, Wyck, and Connie. May they be kept safe and out of harms way...

I'm so glad that Gabriel seems to be adjusting very well and hopefully he will end up in Jenne's care! I really do think it is for the absolute best and it would be a great place for him... Just as long as they get their little behinds back home! And Mom is right, Jenne: "You sure are a hero!"

I am swamped... I will try to post the blog I intended to post yesterday... The internet here actually works as opposed to my home resource... UGH...

I think I'm going to fall asleep here pretty soon, better go outside for a moment and wake up... I still have three hours to go!

    I hope I don't snore.... :D

    Love you Much Much!
    ~Casey

Oh yeah, we will stop in before we leave tonight to say Hi and such!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Probably because they're always wrong, especially in TX. I discovered the other day that the local news station was hiring a meteorologist. The ad said "Degree preferred". Thought that was interesting. Have fun this weekend.

  18. I could apply and do a fantastic job. "It's hot today. Tomorrow it will be hotter. Thursday: Scorching, and Friday, you'd better not sit on your leather seats with your shorts on, unless for some reason, you don't desire skin on your legs. It will not rain. Your car may burst into hysterics or flames when you want to turn your air conditioning on, and toward the end of the month, you may need a trip to the emergency room when you open your electric bill. Back to you Lyle."

  28. Evenin Bart,
Made it safely to Arkansas.. traffic was horrendous.. (is that spelled right???, dont look right) Anyways all is well.. from what I can tell it hasnt even started raining at the house in Texas yet..

I think the big thing with this storm is not so much the wind but the tidal surge.. Although frankly 40-60mph winds with stronger gusts.. seems like alot to me. That is what they are predicting at the house there in Texas.

Im about 100 miles southeast of Temple.. So they should be ok there too.. just depends on which way Ike decides to turn once he hits land.
I heard that because the land is so warm.. it could actually increase in intensity after landfall. Now wouldnt that be a kick in the pants.

Im so glad that Jenne and Aaron are looking into taking Gabe.. Now that is a wonderful idea! I certainly hope all goes well and the redtape is pushed through quickly!

I have promised a blag.. so I best get to it! You have a great night! What a great treat this morning to get to talk with you!

    Mucho hugs and luv

    No "blag" is not misspelled..

I am glad to hear that Gabe is doing good and that Jenne and Aaron into taking Gabe too!!! I hope you'll be able to enjoy your weekend my friend!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh Sweet Beep!
I don't care if it's spelled right or wrong. You are both safe and sound; and that's what matters to me.

I hate to hear that this 'thing' may even increase...
It all seems so apocalyptic to me; ever since Katrina...

I have the weather station on, and so much of the coastline homes and such are already flooded with people on the roofs... This before IKE even hits land!
Just a shame that some do not listen to the warnings.

What do you suppose the governor meant when he said "LEAVE OR DIE" and that people that remained behind would face "CERTAIN DEATH" ???
Not sure about you, but if I heard that I might just LEAVE...

    duh...

    Back to Jenne and Aaron.
Damn straight it's a wonderful idea!
Proud I am of those two/three.
(Someone must have raised them right).

Will have to go check and see if your BLAG is up...

I shall try to enjoy the weekend... As long as the news that comes from Texas is all good.

  32. I wasnt aware that Rick Perry had said that.. but .. my opinion.. these folks were told to leave.. to stay and then put the 1st responders in harms way because of their stupidity.. is just... insanely selfish!

I did hear that the weather people had said.. anyone who stays in Galveston would be facing "certain death" and then listening to Fox on XM.. some of these folks were having a drinking party.. oh just how insane is that!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sweetie;
I guess i don't know exactly WHO said it then...
But it was out there- and if people do not want to leave, they should have at least made their funeral arrangements.

  36. National Weather Service forecaster Walt Zaleski said the storm also may have major impacts in the San Antonio, Austin and Waco areas because of a high potential for tornadoes in the storm’s outer bands. “These are not going to be your typical Texas tornadoes that are half a mile to a mile wide,” Zaleski said. “These are going to be small, short-lived, fast-moving, invisible, often shrouded in rainfall.” Zaleski said winds of 40 to 50 mph extend 250 miles from the storm’s center.

Two dogs were left in a back yard of a home were the storm surge of Hurricane Ike is rising, on Friday, Sept. 12, 2008 in San Leon, Texas. Hurricane warnings were in effect over a 400-mile stretch of coastline from south of Corpus Christi to Morgan City, La. Tropical storm warnings extended south almost to the Mexican border and east to the Mississippi-Alabama line, including New Orleans.

  40. Anne I have family practically all over Texas as well. My nieces and nephews live anywhere from Galveston on up to Houston. Other family is in the Dallas-Ft.Worth area. My x-bro-in-law lives in Houston. They get flooded a lot where they live. His wife left "before" they gave the order to evacuate. Don't have to tell her twice! But my x-bro-in-law is a security worker and he was put on call for the duration of this and has to stay behind. But he would have stayed behind anyway. That is just how he is. Nothing scares him.

The last time I spoke to him was this afternoon around 1pm and he was boiling water for corn and making some tea. All he did to prepare for this was to make sure the deep freezer was sealed with duct tape for when the power goes out. He laughingly told me he was prepared and had all he needed then added he forgot to buy shotgun shells. I suppose to defend against the looters. Unless he planned to threaten Ike for getting too close!

I'll be checking on him again in the morning. Hopefully his phone will still be working.

I hope that you will come back and comment again, and let us know that everyone is safe after you speak to him.

    Love to you.

  45. Jenne, wherever you are... you are the best..! Stay safe...!!
Anne, i have personally completed interstate compact paperwork and it's a pain in the butt that can take two days or two months depending on how motivated one is to complete the dang stuff. Scheduling the homevisit is key, so the sooner they have that out of the way the better. Does Mr. Gabe have a court appointed GAL yet? That might help (if they can call both state's (WI and Tx) interstate staff to hurry things along... my experience is that if no one asks about the ppwk, it will sit.. the more the workers (you now have at least two county workers and two state workers involved) hear about it, the faster it will get done. Contacting supervisors is also a great idea, again keeps people moving.
    best of luck.
    love you,
    k

    ReplyDelete
  46. Have received an email from Jenne-
She said they are safe, they still have power; but that it's about to be getting worse.
Not sure if they are at home or at Aaron's moms...

  47. Dearest Kris;
I am glad you had the wherewithall to do these things for the babies.
That said, I can be a pest, but I don't want to be p*ssing anyone off that they end up burying it all either.

GAL was going to be appointed- or so the judge said at that last hearing-
We go back on Monday afternoon.

How do you figure that all those people are involved?
I only know the one lady...

    Love to you always...

    XOXO
    Anne

    ReplyDelete
  48. The way it works, supposedly, is that the Wi Brown county worker completes the ppwk, has their supervisor sign, and forwards to the Wi Interstate Compact office. That office then forwards the ppwk to the Texas Interstate Compact office and they in turn forward it to the Texas county where Jenne lives to schedule the homevisit. quite a silly process if you ask me but...
We always had the best luck contacting the Texas County staff DIRECTLY while the ppwk was submitted and floating around the interstate offices. As soon as the Brown county worker can talk to a county worker in Texas, that's a real plus because the county workers are the ones who can get it done. I agree it's not a good idea to p*ss people off, that's why the GAL is a good person to make some of those 'just checking on the progress of this case' contacts.
..and now you know why i retired early (right before my head exploded).. >:)
