The last of the plums...
.
.
Good Morning All;
I have SO many thoughts running through this little bitty brain of mine.

First and foremost my Punkin...

And what would make a dog go from this...

in just a few days time?
.
.

She has been off her feed (and her feet), for a while...
She had vomited twice a few days ago, and once the night before. Like me, she hasn't the sense to lose any weight doing this either; (she weighed in at 100.3 pounds).

Not wanting to 'weather' anything more, over the weekend; I called Dr. Spires, and brought her in yesterday.

  • No fever.
  • Normal bowel sounds.
  • All else checked out normal too.
  • Except for her temperament.

WTH?

Doctor said it was only her previous eye experience that has made her the "Marmaduke" of the office now.
I have NEVER seen her throw such a tantrum; crying on her way in to the room, trying to get up on the table, then down, trying to sit on my lap, etc etc etc...
*Please CLICK HERE to read WHY she might have this reaction

We will wait until Monday- If she remains this way through the weekend, then she will have to have an xray or two.
On his suggestion, I made some white rice for her- This she did eat; although her food bowl is still untouched this morning.
MORE RICE of course...

I have checked, and double checked ANYthing pet food related online. Didn't find a thing that would affect her this way.

  • But I did find a $10.00 coupon for +$50.00 purchase at Petco.
  • Also included is a $5.00 coupon for +$25.00 purchase.

Either one will give you 20% off!
*Good through October 25th.

According to our calendar, Fall is here-

And yesterdays temps still read like Summer
.
Cnv0369 by you.
.
.
Todays, (and future days), temps will not be so warm...
(Though it is 70 degrees as I type).
Nice, that.

I have been reading around lots of places this morning...

Here is something for the kids-
The new Earth Gauge Kids website is here!
Septembers theme is Getting Outdoors.
Kids, grades 5-8, (and others) will find an interactive quiz, activity ideas, and fun facts. Meteorologists will find a widget that can be included on station websites to link your young audiences to fun weather-environment information that changes each month. CLICK HERE to learn more.

.
I am almost positive we all watched "The Debate" last night?
...insert big sigh...
Save for the obvious ones, I am left with one additional question.
Just what the hell IS the difference between a tactic and a strategy?
McCain did NOT elaborate; and since I have been living under a rock since 1972, (with Nixon no less), I wish he had.
.
.
It is late- I am late today.
Kelli has already been here. Casey has called and is on her way out.
Time for me to get my backside OUTside.

Have a "wunnaful" sunny and warm weekend!

XOXO
Anne

  1. I hope little punkin feels better soon. At least she's eating the rice, that's a plus. Easy on the digestion. Take good care of her but then I don't have to tell ya that, do I?

  2. I hope Punk gets better. Rice is better than nothing at all. I can't get the picture of a 100 lb puppy trying to sit in your lap out of my mind. Maybe because my Rocky still has to try and sit in mine every chance he gets and he must be at least 90 lbs.

  4. Poor punkin! I watched the debate last night too and well I dont know the difference either! The weather is going to be in the 100s this weekend and wow, i thought fall was here! Miss you all

  5. Punkin not smiling? Impossible? I'm devastated! I hope it works its own way out (whatever 'it' is!).

A strategy is what you're planning to do, and a tactic is how your going to do it????? (Not the question marks!!!!! LOL!)

    Hugs xxxx

  6. Poor Punk. It sounds like x-rays may be in order. At least that would help diagnose, or rule out, anything skeletal (or joints) or any problems in her digestive track. She could have a herniated or slipped disc, or a sprained neck from all her rough housing and/or swimming in the river. I've found that more often than not joint or skeletal problems will zap the spirit right out of a dog. Blood work can be expensive if it has to be sent out and the lab is looking for specific conditions like diabetes, kidney, or thyroid problems. Then there's her weight. 100 pounds! Isn't that a little high for a young female Lab? What does your Vet say about the weight? I'm usually overweight, and I know how much it weighs me down, just losing a few pounds makes me feel much perkier. One question... you said she was throwing up, how about what's coming out the other end? Is she eliminating normally?

Watched the debate as a rerun about 1AM, on CNN, at work last night. It didn't really change my opinion. I'm already pretty sure of who I'm voting for, but the debate that's really going to make-it, or break-it for me and most folks is going to be the Vice Presidential candidates debate. McCain and Obama sure made it seem like there was a big difference between tactics and strategies, you got me on this one, I see them both as the same thing. I guess it's a military thing.

    Enjoy your last Plum!

  7. Poor Punkie! I don't know what could be wrong with her... I hope the doctor can diagnose and treat her and make her better... Are there any plants outside that she could have eaten that would make her sick? Or maybe she ingested something in the house that won't 'digest' and come out the other end? I can only say that I will keep her in my prayers...

I believe that I am probably the only person in the free world who DIDN'T watch the debate... I am neither a democrat or a republican. I believe in putting the person who is right for the job into office regardless of their political party. I don't vote... That is ONLY because in my opinion my vote DOESN'T count... In my eyes ALL politicians are liars. They tell you one thing to get your vote then turn around and do something completely different. I know there are people who think that people who don't vote don't care about our country... But look at the politicians, do any of them REALLY care about the country or it's citizens for that matter??

Ok sorry, let me step off my soap box...

I hope that y'all find out what is wrong with Punkie...

As always I will keep you and yours in my thoughts and prayers...

    Love Ya,

    Slurk

  8. Awwwwwwwwww I am so sorry about your dog and I sure hope the doctor can find out what is wrong or she'll be better by Monday! Poor thing!!! I missed the debate I had all good intentions to watch it but with the kids and loading my van for the craft show my time well it got away from me!!
I hope the rest of your weekend goes good! Hugs to you

  9. Do they spray the corn that Punk snacks on? Just curious?

Thanks for the link to the kids website ...Collin should like that one!

Also, thanks for the link you sent me....cool story that. We are no longer full fledged vegetarians though....I had an epiphany over soy and decided to add back in some fish, and a very slight amount of egg and dairy.

Sorry to combine comments but I am in a hurry as I seem to be most of the time anymore.

    Love to you : )

  10. Awww Poor Punk..I hope she gets better soon. I saw the debate and I honestly still dont know what to think. I guess maybe I was expecting more out of them both...Have a great weekend!!

  11. Evenin Rock,
Funny that Punk is feeling all out of sorts.. so is my Nikki.. Seems like she is eating.. and she has not thrown up.. Nose is cold but acting like her little back might be out of sorts a little bit. Its so heartbreaking to know you pet is not feeling well yet nothing we can do for them.

    Beautiful fall pictures..

As to that debate.. well.. I dont think either man really told us anything. McCain didnt really shine and Obama seemed to be just regurgetating the same lines hes been saying for months.

I have checked out the taxes.. and on the surface.. Obamas looks good but you must remember the Bush tax cuts he is gonna let return which will raise all of our taxes and the capitol gains tax and the death tax... all of which will affect us all.
I know that most of the South will go for McCain and the NE and California will go for Obama.. Now its just up to the rest of those states that they(the media) call the battleground states. Time will tell.. I dont think either man has a clue how to lead this nation or what to do with the Economy that is so important to us all.

I do like McCains energy plans.. I do believe we need a health care .. something ....But I dont want the government with their greedy hands into my medical issues. (after all in my opinion they have done such a bang up job on schools, SS, medicare, medicaid, Veterans issues.. and now the banking industry)

I dont like deregulation.. I think that is a large reason.. we are in this mess currently.. But I want less government.. Now aint that a contradiction!

You know I live with a strong right wing conservative.. and the debates we get into .. oh my gosh!

Hope Punk feels better soon..Luv ya!

  12. You live with Richard Nixon? I wondered what ever happened to him. What was your strategy in getting him to Flintville and what tactic did you use to accomplish this?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Maybe Punk is just depressed. Dogs have their moments too.

Maybe she is bored with her food. Maybe she saw a commercial on TV about the mellamine that China has been putting in their dog foods and baby foods and she's wondering about her own food.

Maybe she is feeling a change in the weather and is not quite ready for it. They feel weather changes in their bones just like we do. Probably more so. And even though that temp said 80, to her bones it may just as well be 30.

Don't you wish sometimes our pets could talk?

  14. Sweet Pam;
The rice, mixed with her food, has all but disappeared now.
And as of about 20 minutes ago, she has literally begged for food.

Seems as though 'something' might have worked its way out about an hour ago...

  19. Sweet RT;
Dr. Spires emphasized that the xrays are many times inconclusive. That, because if it is wood, or the like, it is profoundly hard to see on an xray...

As far as her weight goes. (She is very upset that you pointed this out)...
But she is "a bit" overweight, even though from floor to shoulder she is 32", and from neck to butt she is 35".
This is very large for a Lab... (Mama Milly is the Lab, PB Yellow).
In height, Punk is bigger than her papa even... (And he is PB Golden Retriever).
So she is no small dog to begin with.
    Fat? Not really.
    In shape? Yes.
    Overweight? Dr. says "a bit".

And yes, even with barely anything going in, she has been pooing fine too. No diarrhea, no occult anything in her stools either.

He checked her back again- Knowing what you say is true about it zapping the energy-
I personally KNOW that to be true. (Check my pictures, see the weeds that went UNpulled this year)...

I saw the tactic and strategy thing as the same too- So if that was a 'shot' it went right over my head. (No military experience here)...

  20. Sweet Slurk!
I thought about plants, and checked everything, including the cat, to see if anything was awry.
    Nothing was.
    It is so puzzling, still.

About the debate/politics etc. I am NOT registered as either Rep or Dem.
But I am registered to vote. And I do. Always.
Guess personally I feel that if I don't, then I somehow forfeit my right to bitch about it all.

I know about the electoral garbage... And I don't like that at all. (Just check out the last few elections)...
I don't know about the rest of the world- I do feel 'we' are many places we shouldn't be.
And this is made worse by the fact that IN AMERICA, there are tens of 1000's of children that go to bed hungry every night- Not to mention all the $$$'s that could be spent curing their illnesses too.

It is all so screwy that I'll be on your own soapbox if I write any more.

And I never have used anything more than used dishwater in the garden. (Works great to repel insects)...

I was thinking of Collin when I posted that link too.

Don't get me started on the "natural but not human" estrogens in soy. (That's a whole 'nother soapbox for me).
Suffice to say a little goes a long way whether one is male or female.

You already know how very close to my heart the Health Care is in this election.
Will I vote on that premise alone? No, of course not.
But as far as the gov't knowing about my headaches and my anxiety, etc... I think they should know.
(It would give them fair warning to stay the hell away)!
    hehehe

Battleground states? Yup, that's Wisconsin too. One day last week, we were all over McCain, and the very next day it was exactly the opposite.

Between you and I, I share many of your contradictions.
    hehehe
And sort of even LOVE every minute of it too.
    ;-)

Your JT and my Randy would get along just so fine, with their political views.
In fact, much of the stuff that I write on JT's site has evolved from our own (ahem) disagreements.
    Grrr... SO inflexible and all.
But I never mean anything bad either. Just to make them see there is more to every story.
Sadly for us, there are even more than two sides to every story now too.

As far as depression goes, Dr. Spires brought that up too-
I had mentioned that Casey had been at the hospital etc...
So it might just be that too.

With her puppy injury, the bones might be 'talking' somehow too.

  27. Maybe I should have softened it up a little, as I know how sensitive girls can be about their weight. I know how athletic she is, so maybe she's just a little husky (not Siberian) from all her muscles ...come to think of it - maybe I should just shut up - and quit while I'm ahead...

  31. Hi Mommy,

I now know that Miss Punkie is alright, but the rice is very good for dogs and it's great that she was able to eat that. Rice and eggs help dogs maintain healthy and shiny coats, although Punk has always had a wonderful coat so it's not too big of a deal...

Fall??? NO! I hate the cold as do you... I am longing for that temperature in your picture... I'll have to wait quite a while for that again though...

Meteorologists have to go and find their "widgets" online AND they are putting them on websites for children?!?!? What is this world coming to?? hee hee hee... That website is actually pretty cool. It is sad, though, that they have to have a website with a certain "Getting Outdoors" theme to get children outside. I remember spending most of the summer months outside when I was little. You practically had to drag me into the house at night!

On the debate issue, I think McCain was just trying to rub his military experience into Obama's face (for the millionth time)... I also think he was insulting Obama's intelligence in order to make himself look better rather than just making points that are facts that would up his appearance of intelligence. We all know where that takes people though...

    Love you much much,
    ~CaseyAnne
