[My] Life in Wisconsin

Little Red Dots...

  magnify
Home Sweet Home!
.
Good Late Afternoon Everyone;

Good grief, but I cannot type to save my soul.
I wrote a note earlier- (will cheat and copy a part of it here for you), but I swear I had to backspace a zillion times. And I was a secretary for 7 years??
Go figure.

As most know already, I broke my neck years ago (about 10), and my hands do not always cooperate with the keyboard- Lately it has been my left hand- the ring and pinkie fingers are always "buzzing" and not working right.
But not so much painful as a few years ago either. At least not at the elbow.

And I am so tired- I don't think I shall ever catch up on that sleep I may have missed.
Honestly, this trip has aged me at least 50 years; and I seem to have brought home a raunchy cold. I keep on sneezin'... (Bless me).
Better a silly cold than all the other bad things that could have happened.

For instance, our trip home on Wednesday. It had snowed in Minnesota that morning- Nothing major, but just enough to mess up the roads. But after we had left the Twin Cities, it seemed to clear up, and we made good time.
It occurs to me that we would have made better time if we hadn't been talking and missed the 29 exit off 94. (Not far; just about 3 miles). No big deal that.
.
.

It didn't help that Punk kept asking,
"Are we THERE yet?"

.
.

After that, it was smooth sailing all the way to Wausau- (Wausau is about 90 miles from home).
At that point, in the space of about 5 minutes, the roads went from good winter driving condition to downright wretched.
I slipped two or three times; cringed a few times; and had to giggle at my child asking me if I wanted a Xanax? (I took half a pill). The first one had worn off much earlier. (I abhor these damnable panic attacks)...

Not sure what it is about us on this trip, but those last 90 miles both ways have proven to be very interesting to say the least.

Wausau. Snow on the mountain...
Just before it started snowing on the roads...

.
.

Casey is doing well. She will be joining me for the weekend. Greg will be gone for the duration.
Not to worry though, I will not be watching her rest. When I packed up the hotel room in Minneapolis, I had to be out by 11. I packed in a bit of a hurry...

Casey had had her doctor appointment that morning at 8, and I wasn't too sure how long that would take. Dr. Sutherland came in and talked for a long time.

Get this now...
Are you sitting down? Now that's a silly question as usually we are seated when reading a blog...

Dr. Sutherland feels that because they harvested so many Islet Cells that he would think Casey will not be needing insulin past her 3 month checkup.
How freakin' cool is that?!?!

He sent in a nurse after talking with us to remove Casey's staples. I believe she had 27 or 28 staples put in after her 2nd surgery.
.
.
?
Cnv1096
Methinks it looks like a centipede crawled up her tummy!
hehehe
.
.
.
I left her up at the hospital then, so she could say goodbye to some good people up there. (She could not have helped pack anyway, so I thought it better just to leave her there). As happy as she was to leave, it becomes bittersweet when you leave newfound friends behind.
When we had first gotten to Minnesota, (CLICK HERE), we had met Mr. Rick McCabe. His own TP/AIT Transplant was just 3 days ahead of Casey's. I visited him in the hospital the night of Casey's original surgery as Greg and I were waiting for her to be brought up to a room.
Two days later, he was gone.
I inquired. He was moved to intensive care.
I never got to visit him again, and feel badly about that. I see his page on here is all erased also. Strange. Hope all is well. I do have his mothers email address and will include her in this blog.

I am cold, and wouldn't you know that the oil man came yesterday! A full tank of fuel now and I should really turn up the heat a bit, but I don't. I believe it is too expensive to do so just for me. I will turn it up before Casey comes.
Kelli kept the heat down while we were gone, so that helped too. She came every single morning and night to check up on Mama Milly and on Sputnik too. Said she loved to even sit and enjoy the quiet or TV, or watch Mr. Miller play with Milly. That, and she worked from about 7:30 in the morning til about 5 at night; and has the two horses too. Her and Tim were very very busy between the two places.
Oops. Credit where credit is due, Greg came out on Christmas morning so Kelli could spend Christmas Eve at her mothers home.

Miss Milly is sufficiently spoiled now. A bona~fide housedog. She will go out on warmer days, like yesterday. But she can stay in as long as all is well. She stays in the entrance. Has her little pillows and blankets out there- But she probably doesn't need those with all the dog hair that needs to be vacuumed. hehehe I really will have to get to all of this shortly.

My house is a terrible mess. I have not yet unpacked, save for the basic necessities.

Crystal came by yesterday to welcome us home- I had not yet found my toothbrush! Or my comb...
But Crystal and her sisters are much like my own daughters so I don't worry about that all too much.
.
.
?
Cnv1088

Ain't she sweet?
.
.
.

I had to drive into town yesterday and return some bags that Greg had left behind when he picked up Casey. I also stopped and got her some cleats to put on under her shoes/boots for if she goes outside so she doesn't slip. They were the last pair that Fleet Farm had. But so far, (knock on wood), NO MORE CANE! Methinks she looked kind of cute with it though...
When I was at her place, I looked through one of the boxes that Greg had picked up the night before. THERE was my toothbrush! (No wonder I couldn't find the darn thing)! Yes, I have a spare, but just not the same. And I will be replacing them anyway, as soon as this cold is over.

The whole trip actually seems to have passed quickly; or more to the point, in a bit of a haze. But I am everso glad to be home; dust bunnies or not, mess or not.
I have chipped away at the ice outside for the last two days. Not making much progress, but every little bit helps.
And I much enjoy my own shower too. I don't care if I don't have a fancy shower head either. (Didn't turn it once anyway).

Not too much other news.
Canada hasn't found me yet either. Happy for that. ;-)

I'd better close and at least clear a path through the mess so she can walk in!
OK. It's not that bad. (Yes it is).
Either way, I don't much care.

Love to all

XOXO
Anne

  1. I know how ya feel about the trip being a whirlwind... I felt like that after I got home from Ohio. And I STILL haven't completely unpacked LOL...

LOL I have always thought that staples leave a funky kind of scar... But the legs of that centipede will fade with time...

I still can't believe that Casey was released so quickly. She is a fighter! Plus you always get better quicker at home (that's what I think anyway!)

Get some rest this weekend! The dust bunnies will still be there when you get rested up LOL!

    Love Ya!

so glad to see a blog about normal homey things again! How you must have missed all this while you were int hat hospital but as you said, it could have been SO very much worse.

i am happy to hear that they gave Casey a positive report with her leaving!

  4. Oh, and my centipede legs faded on one scar but not so much on the other..

once the scar is closed, cocao butter will help that to disappear.

  5. I stopped by earlier but Cee rang the dinner bell and had to go eat it while it was hot. So sorry about that!

I'm just tickled pink that things are going so well for Casey. You just take your time and get rested up. Don't worry about those dust bunnies or anything else. You just worry about you getting resettled and rested this weekend. You deserve it!!!

Such great news about the insulin thing as well. How wonderful!!!! Hope you are able to find out what happened with the gentleman that had his surgery around the same time as Casey. Hope you will let us know.

Please give Casey a big hug from me and Cee.

  6. Im thinking Miss Milly wants to be included more in the household, maybe even the trips. Hehe :)

I am so very HAPPY for Casey. The news from Dr. Sutherland was absolutely WONDERFUL!!! I am really loving those Islet cells, I better pause here and give my own a hug. They deserve thanks for keeping the old engine purring :)

Back now from that moment of cell love, LOL.

Glad you are home and getting settled in. It really makes you appreciate the "comforts of home" when you are away a while doesnt it?

Take care of yourself now....give that cold the cold shoulder and send it on it's way!

    *HUGS!!!!*

  9. Hiya Rock, Just got back from a call out..

Theres no place like home... Theres no place like home... hehe Between JT and I we have gone to the dentist so often .. I think we have a bizillion toothbrushes.. every time we go they give us a new one. That shall come to an end though.. porcelain doesnt need the same kind of cleaning. hehe Ya know I never thought about it.. but it makes perfect sense to change toothbrushes after a cold or flu.

Im so very glad she is home and doing well.. and that the cells are doing well, as well.. That would be so awesome that she wouldnt have to take insulin.. Buttt she will have to monitor it regularly wont she? Just to make sure??? I would think..

Hell I dont have panic attacks at least not often but nasty icy roads will make me panic too. Very glad you made it home safely!

I didnt know you had broken your neck.. well that sorta explains so much doesnt it.

    Have an awesome Weekend!
    Mucho hugs

  10. So glad you all are back to the homefront and getting settled once again. I know Casey will have to get out and walk from the house to the car and from the car to the house, but she still has internal stitches that can be pulled and stretched apart. Tell her not to be acting like she is Wonder Woman or anything.

Hope you have plenty of Lysol on hand. Wouldn't want Casey catching that cold too.

I am just tickled pink that you all are finally HOME!

  11. So glad you're all home & safe.

  12. Sweet Slurk;
She has had SO many surgeries- Most were done down her throat though because it was her pancreas. She didn't have to be cut open like that. A few were laparoscopic, and the only problems she had with those was the shoulder pain from the gas.

The dust bunnies have reproduced seemingly OVERNIGHT! And the ones that didn't reproduce look very very pregnant.

  17. Sweet BethieBaby!
Mama Milly is NOT fond of traveling- not in the least. (Thank God for that).
While I hopefully will be able to get a different car at some point I would hate to accommodate TWO dogs in there. hehehe
But yet, Chuck and Julie say that when Milly visits their place that she gladly jumps into their car/truck for the ride home.
    Go figure.

I am happy you are thankful for your own islet cells too.
Just think, if it hadn't been for Casey, most of us wouldn't even KNOW what an islet cell is! Let alone be thankful for them.

Being home (at this point), makes me really happy that I buy REAL Kleenex, and not the "I~used~to~be~a~tree" kind...

I do believe that God gave me these panic attacks (or I 'chose' them in the long ago), to be real thankful FOR my home in the first place; and to love it too.
Or at least that is part of it all.

  20. Sweet BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!
    hehehe
Oh, it occurs to me that I have plenty of "ketching~up" to do yet. My apologies (to everyone that might be reading this), for being so very absent lately.
When I do finally get settled and cured I will be back 100%.

When I get a cold, my teeth always hurt bigtime. Not sure WHY, and surely not impressed by it either. So at times like these I am very jealous of the fact that Mom and Dad had teeth that no longer pained them... porcelain or not.
And I also believe that if I had known all those years ago that I would have given so many thousands of dollars to the dentist, I would have opted to have all my teeth removed then.

Since she was released, she has taken her long acting insulin, but only ONE little unit of the other kind.
She checked it for the heck of it 2 hours after her meal- Her b/s was at 93.
    Very cool, that.
And before her meals it is always so very good!

The icy patches on the roads were enough to send me white~knuckling the wheel. Little skids; nothing even bad, but one of those times a semi was passing me...
    UGH

I kept praying, just differently then, that I would get Casey home without hurting her further.

Don't get all freaked about my neck. It never was even revealed until a few years afterward.
I had gone in after polevaulting in the back yard and breaking my shoulder when I landed face down in the rhubarb..
(It didn't hurt, but there was this bone)...

Fast forward a few years, and after many episodes of intense pain in my elbows, and hands, I had gotten a CT Scan of my head and neck (for my migraines!). It was then that they found that little bone chip....
They can remove it... No thank you very much. They go through the neck to do so.
So I just put up for the most part.

You and so many others on here are up in the wee hours even more than I am!

Casey has been very good about resting, so I am not worried yet about any magical feats.

    Bleach. Not Lysol.
Bleach kills cdiff, very VERY few of the other chemical cleaners do not.

  23. Good morning! Just checking in to see what's been going on here.

Can I make a suggestion about your toothbrush? When Cee and I are down with a cold, flu, whatnot, I always soak our tootbrushes in mouthwash to kill the germs and then when we are all better, we get a new one. I never throw out my old tootbrushes though---I keep them for cleaning those hard to reach places like around the faucets in the bathroom and kitchen.

I can't believe how much better Casey's scar is compared to about a week or so ago. I am just thrilled with her progress and so is Cee. Yes, I've been reading all your blogs about Casey to her and letting her see the pics. The looks on Cee's face when she sees the difference from one pic to another is so funny!!!! I've started calling them her "OMG" looks!

Love to all!!! Have a super great weekend. Just take things easy. There's plenty of time to get to those dust bunnies.

  24. I'm sorry to hear that you're not feeling well. But at least if you were going to be sick it waited until you got home. If you'd been sick while you were in Minneapolis I doubt you would've been able to be around Casey.

Aged 50 years? A few new gray hairs maybe - but who's counting!!

My Dust Bunnies said to say hello to your Dust Bunnies.

Try to sneak in a nap everyday, and before you know it you'll be caught up on your sleep.

It would be great if Casey could get off the insulin sooner than she thought. I'm still marveling at how well she did, and is doing.

If only the little centipede could talk!

  31. It's WONDERFUL that you two are back home!
Things are progressing quicker than expected.
Casey is a very strong and determined young lady.
Of course, ALL our prayers to the man above helped too!
I too, believe that one heals better at home.
The comforts of home, and being surrounded by loved ones,
AND sleeping in your OWN bed... can't beat that!
Great bunch of islet cells Casey got! YAY!
Like the little engine that could....
They looked at each other and said,
"we have to do this for our girl Casey"
    now they're singing...
We KNOW we CAN, we KNOW we CAN, we KNOW we CAN!
That centipede must be tickling her tummy walking on it. hehehe
Scars are something people want to hide, but I believe that
Casey isn't ashamed of this scar, and with GOOD reason.
That young lady has been through hell and high water.
(((((((((((((( Giving her a big hug right now ))))))))))))))
I do hope that you get feeling better Annie.
You get some rest, get better first,
and worry about your house later!
We're not worried about what your house
looks like when we come visit you anyway!
We come to see you and read your blogs
and see all your nice pictures.
Just put a trap cage out for those dust bunnies,
place some carrots in there, and your job is done. hehehe
Did you know, that even if you're NOT sick,
that you are getting germs from your toothbrush,
That can cause gum disease like gingivitis, etc.?
You should ALWAYS run HOT WATER as hot as
it gets from your faucet over your toothbrush for at least
two minutes to get the germs that you just brushed off your
teeth off of your toothbrush. It's true! So, regardless, we're STILL
spreading germs around our mouth WITH our toothbrush
when we brush our teeth by NOT doing this little task.
I get nervous driving in the snow and ice and try to avoid it.
The other day, we had black ice, which I HATE driving in,
and I started to slow down (I was only going 35) to go on the
exit ramp to the highway, and I went a slipping and sliding.
I was heading for the back of the truck in front of me... YIKES!
LUCKILY, the overpass was concrete and saved me from sliding
into that truck! I was just in an accident with Blue Lightning last Jan.
and I've been skittish about driving since, ESPECIALLY in snow, ice.
Dang! My comment is about as long as your blog! Teeheehee
Hope everyone is doing good. Give the furkids a hug for me.

Just do NOT allow anyone to do any procedures on your pancreas in the meantime. Any kind of trauma will kill off many of your islet cells.
