Casey at the hospital yesterday...

.
.
Good Morning Everyone;
March came in like a lion for me.

As many of you (on Multiply) already know, Casey spent yesterday at the hospital.

She had called about midnight on Saturday night- Definitely not feeling too well. I had some of her meds out here, but she said she wanted to try to rest a bit.
(Didn't happen for either of us).
She drove out here- restless, in pain, a bit bruised and swollen.
(Her tummy, at the bottom of her incision under her navel).

After calling the clinic here, and then touching base with her own transplant team in Minnesota, we were told to go to the local hospital. They were quite concerned with the bruising.

Long story short, we are still not too sure what is going on... She is OK. Some of her lab tests revealed higher readings, but still within the normal range (for normal people anyway).
The ER doc wants her to be seen back in Minnesota ASAP.
(He said "this week"- and absolutely not to wait till her followup on April 1st).
Casey has a call in to MN. They will be calling to schedule that visit.

I do get a kick out of these doctors~ They ALL want to hear about her surgery. Even the nurses came in while we related it all.
Not to mention what the CAT Scan radiologist must have thought when he saw (or better, DIDN'T see) as he 'read' her results back to the doctor.

The fact is that no one around these parts really knows too much about her transplant, so
I suppose it should be no huge surprise to be referred back there.

Everyone at the hospital has been so nice too.

Well almost everyone...

As many of you know I do not have much patience with idiotic (read "stupid") people.
Never had it, never will.

Suffice to say that I might have been asked by the triage nurse who shall remain anonymous if I wanted to her to call security.
And I might have told her to do just that.
Bring it, Baby!

Long(er) story short, nurse "Kris" did get removed from triage almost immediately and relegated to doing computer work in a cubicle in the ER. hehehe

  • Mess with me? Fine.
  • Mess with my kids and I promise that you do not stand a chance.

After we got back here, Greg drove out for a bit, bringing along the rest of her meds so she could stay here overnight. Her car is here, and she cannot drive after being treated twice again with the dilaudid.
I napped soon as he left- He had to come out a second time to bring additional meds, but I slept right through that visit.
(Thank God for Greg)!

Casey came downstairs once last night; about 10:30-
I was making a pot of Leek Soup.
.

Leek Soup
And it WILL cure whatever ails you.

.
.
I'd set the whole pot out to the garage to cool off last night, and then promptly went back to sleep.
As I slept, the temps dropped to about 6 below zero.
Almost needless to say, the soup is in the oven, thawing. hehehe

I received a very cool email (2 of them in fact) from William yesterday.
Rumor has it that they got snow in Prattville, Alabama!
.
.

.
?
Alabama
Prattville is near Montgomery...

This snow is a once in a decade delivery for them.
I am tickled pink for Little Lawrence!
He sent pictures.
Those emails are the best ever!!!

Thank you William!!!!
.
.
I'd better close-
Have dishes to do from that middle of the night cooking I did.
But before I do, I need to ask...

What is the best response to a stranger, in all seriousness, calling you 'stupid'- with the nerve to say "my IQ is obviously higher than yours"? (No Beep, I am not talking about JT). hehehe

Mama always told me that there were idiots in the big bad world. I do believe I have encountered two of them. One in triage, one in blogland.

Have a stupid Monday.

Love to all.

XOXO
Me

I would SO love a bowl of soup... It looks delicious!

I think that if someone called me stupid, where ever it happened to be, I would have to tell them, "You know that your insult to me only means that you're insecure with yourself."

I can remember a teacher from years ago saying that to someone... Just don't remember who (I AM getting old ya know!)

I'm glad that Casey rested... I hope you hear from MN soon... Will keep prayers a-coming!

    Love Ya!

  4. My response would be, " I no longer have a need to talk to your arogant arse." followed by, "I now need your supervisor." if it was a service being provided.

  5. SOUP!!!!! LEEEK SOUUUUP NOOOOOOWWWW!!!

Rose had nothing (not even research she spoke so condescendingly about). I think I pi$$ed khool off. I kinda feel bad about that, but I HATE people like her that's all second hand information being regurgitated to her to partial party. In the end she said she wouldn't argue. She had NOTHING to argue, and is probably waiting for somebody to tell her what her opinion is. (high I.Q. my as$)

NEED LEEEK SOUP. NOW. STANGER LOVE LEEK SOUP. I seriously have tears in my eyes thinking about it. PLEASE?

  6. My sweet Green Bayites, I'm not angry at anyone. I don't mind disagreeing. I just hope no one stops visiting me because of others. I've tried to garner a wide range friends and I enjoy them all no matter what their beliefs.

What does make me sad is that I don't even know what a LEEK is. Though I've had potatoe leek soup at work.

Have a great day and I'm Casey is OK, with what I'm assuming is a minor glitch.

  7. The soup looks delicious but I have never tasted Leek soup but its looks great ..

Sounds like you had a couple of busy days and I hope everything goes good with Casey .. That girl has been through so much ..

    ReplyDelete
  8. Leek soup.....it looks delicious, but I don't think they even sell leeks down here....I guess its kind of like ya'll up north don't know about turnip greens or okra....or rotel tomatoes, LOL.

Not sure if this is Casey's case, but a few months after my surgery (just as the damn incision had finally healed :( ) I had to go back in for a swelling (but no bruising)....turned out to be a herniated place...which meant they split me top to bottom again (which is when I lost my pretty pierced bellybutton :( ) to put in some kind of mesh material to hold the herniated place in internally. It wasn't to bad of a surgery, considering the stuff I had been thru during the months before that.

Saying prayers for Casey...and for you also having to drive back to MN...I remember the difficult drive ya'll had last time.

  10. I've had leeks before but never made into homemade leek soup. Sounds scrumptious! Did I see carrots in there too? (It looked like something orange was in there.)

If someone made a remark about their I.Q. being higher than mine - when I knew their's wasn't I'd probably just keep my thoughts to myself. Knowing that my I.Q. was higher, and that I had better manners then them would give me abundant pleasure all by itself.

Usually people like that are so full of themselves that anything you say won't sink in anyway. So it's probably better to save your energy.

I hope Casey gets her appointment scheduled soon so she can be seen by Dr. Sutherland. Whatever it is it will be a breeze to handle compared to what she went through before. She's a tough cookie.

Glad you got some rest. You've got a long drive to MN coming up.

  11. your reply?

"Einstein only had an IQ of 160. Just proves that even idiots can test well."

"even an idiot knows that IQ is not a measure of how smart you are, just how smart you could be"

"Unfortunately IQ is not proportional to personality"

    Please pass me a leekscicle.

  12. I've missed so much news from your end of the world! Sorry I've not been around (been back in the UK).

Casey looks absolutely fed up in that photo, bless her. It beats me how strong the pair of you are, coping with all you've been through.

Love and hugs to you both xxxx

  13. So sorry to hear about Casey..I do hope she finds peace with all of this soon!!!

Your soup looks YUMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! Frozen or not hehe

Did someone call you stupid??? From experience ( I think most a**es are in Houston)..just ignore them..You can't match wits with an idiot..as the old saying goes "they'll beat you down with experience"..Have a "wunnaful" day my friend xoxo

  15. Hoping it all is ok with Casey, and if not that it is easily rectified.

I dont know what to say about IQ.
If it could measure fairly the intelligence of the full person, in so doing, factor in if they are a social retard (and believe me that would lower the score tremendously) I think it would provide a much clearer picture to compare.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hoping Casey is feeling better oxox
Leek soup...never had it but I'm sure it's good.
Soup sounds wonderful right now...wish I had the fixin's for some but alas Old Mother Nancy's cupboards are bare. Have to do the shopping tomorrow

  17. Hope Casey is doing better today. We knew she would not be out of the woods for a while yet. But still, one can hope.

Funny about the soup freezing while it was cooling off. LOL! I sure wish I could get my hubby to eat something like that. He too has been having some awful problems these last couple of days. Being a man, finding out all his symptoms is difficult. I first thought he was having a heart attack. He refused to see a doctor or go the ER. MEN! But we too are without insurance and even if we had it out the wazoo he would still refuse to go. But he has been having chest pains with vomiting. At one point, he did break out into a cold sweat. He missed work last night because of the pain and the vomiting. Then he starting belching constantly. Has not eaten anything except a few crackers and water. The belching smells like sewage. He only feels warm but no obvious fever. No pain in either arms or in the jaw. So, then I got to thinking maybe his gallbladder is involved. I can't diagnose things off the internet and then try to treat him. It's a total guessing game in most cases. He says he will go to work tonight. I worry he may not make it there. And if he does he certainly cannot stand for 8 hours. I honestly feel he needs to be hospitalized. But what do you do with someone this stubborn.

Yep...that snow went way south. They actually got more down in Auburn than we did here. I was sooooo jealous!

Anne....smart people don't really have the need to boast about their IQ. They just "think" they are smarter and it makes them "feel" smarter to brag about something that more than likely they actually cheated on to get the right answers to increase their score.

Seems like there was something in the Bible about that. I'll have to ask one of my smarter Bible friends.Hehehehe! See Anne.....someone knowledgeable about the Bible can be smarter about that than a doctor or nurse who knows nothing about the Bible. A space engineer is smarter than they are too. So anyone who has to boast about their knowledge may be talking to someone who actually has a higher IQ than they do but on a different level.

Next time someone boasts about being smarter just say....."Honey....you just keep telling YOURSELF that and when you actually become as smart as you think you are you'll no longer have to keep saying it!"

  18. Well then...
Seeing that many do know of the leek, I found this little posting on the internet...

    The
    leek
is the national emblem of Wales. The
story behind the daffodil is a charming one
    and representative of the Welsh
characteristics of humour and pragmatism. The
Welsh for leek is Cenhinen and the
Welsh for Daffodil is Cenhinen Pedr

(Peter's leek).  Over the years they
became confused and so the daffodil along with
the leek was adopted as another emblem of
    Wales.

    The
trendy Welsh of today often substitute the
daffodil for the leek, for though it possesses
the necessary green stem and white bulb of its
companion, it looks more attractive and
certainly smells better.  It makes a more
attractive buttonhole on St. David's day.
Daffodils and newborn lambs herald the spring
    in Wales.

    The
leek or daffodil is one of the royal
    badges
for Wales and the daffodil often
appears in conjunction with the Tudor Rose (a
combination of the red and white roses) (for
England), the Thistle (for Scotland) and the
    Shamrock (for Ireland), often entwined
    together.

Please wipe the slurp off your monitor.
Your teacher was very smart. (Good thing, eh)?

The lady at the hospital, (the unnamed one, that "Kris), didn't call me stupid.
But she did call security. hehehe

The comment on the blogs actually came out of nowhere. And AFTER I had even sent out a 'nice to meet you' type note.

Here is the entire text of that note.

    ******************************

"I went to your page to let you know that your comment made me giggle. But I was lost looking for your guestbook.
Read a few of your funnies too!

The thought that went through my mind- after being quite blindsided by that retort was this... "If you're so damned smart, how come I have to explain everything to you on an 8~year~old level?"
But I didn't write that. Admittedly, I fought with my fingers not to.

You have to listen now... I have NEVER ever adjudged my friends, (or lost them or kept them), simply by their political views, or by who else said what.
It is "heart" that matters. (And a modicum of intelligence too). hehehe

You have a good heart and a very warped sense of humor.
I like that in a person, and you are always most welcome on my page.
I will gladly be by yours anytime. (But I don't promise not to laugh).

I put potatoes in my Leek Soup.
Oh and if your bowl of soup is green, then they used the whole leek, stems and all.
    I don't. I just use the fruit/meat.

Not too sure if Casey is a minor glitch or not.

No one mentioned anything herniated though...
Dr. Sutherland preserves the belly button, saying that he didn't want to make her look like an alien.

That is not to say you are an alien.

That leek soup is FANTASTIC!!! Oh it is the most delicious soup I have ever had!! Everyone should come and enjoy a bowl!! Stanger, why haven't you had some yet??? Hee hee hee.... You could even get a taste of snowy weather again if you come and visit!! The weather is described in much different words, but the leek soup is the BOMB!!! The potatoes are perfectly done, lots of fresh ham, leeks, carrots... MMmmmmmmmmmm............ :D

I'm glad that Lawrence got to play in the snow for a while! I'm sure it all melted pretty fast, but he did make one large snowball to show everyone! I just couldn't believe that William was only in a long-sleeved shirt to be outside, but then again it was really warm there despite the snow on the ground...

  57. I just had a bowl of leek soup for lunch. Since Anne is on the road...

I make mine this way (hers is different)

    olive oil
3 leeks coarsely chooped including greens
1 small bulb fennel coarsely chopped (save greens for garnish if desired.)
4 medium potatos chopped coarsely. I don't peel mine but you can if you want.
    2 large carrots chopped coarsely
6 cups chicken broth (use vegetable broth for vegetarian version)
    salt and pepper.

Add around four tablespoons of olive oil to large soup pot preheated over medium heat.
Add leeks and fennel and saute for 4 to 6 minutes until just translucent.
Add potatos and carrots and saute for another 10 minutes.
Add broth and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer stirring often until vegetables are tender (20 to 30 minutes depending on chop size).
Transfer soup to blender in SMALL batches (important/critical so blender doesn't cavitate and splash you.) I do one large ladle full (two cups) at a time.
Blend until smooth and transfer to large bowl.
    Repeat with all remaining soup.
Stir blended soup well and season with fresh cracked salt and pepper to taste.
If needed to adjust consistantcy add either a bit more broth or milk.

This makes about 8 servings depending on how much people eat.
