What?!? Illness and Sin?!

Rating:
Category:Other
I am a bit more than let down here...

The following are words by someone who is on Caseys friends list...
I am shocked and more than a bit hurt as well-

******************************

I just realized something significant...
The Hebrew answer to unexplained illness is sin.
The Christian answer to unexplained illness is lack of faith.
The secular answer to unexplained illness is psychology.
What they all have in common is that they do not believe that illness might be part of God's plan for some and that there must be something lacking in the one with the illness. They all imply that there is something that the one with the illness must have done to deserve the illness.

Just a thought, nothing more."

******************************

Back to me again...

I have never deleted/chosen/accepted friends by their beliefs in The Almighty. But I found this entry so wrong...

If this is a thought, nothing more, then why the hell is it started with the author realizing "something significant"?

Do people really feel this way?

  1. I would hope not...We are all sinners born into a sinful world in need of a Saviour, who is Jesus the only one perfect and pure enough to be sacrificed and be crucified for our sins. In the Old Testament the laws were given to the Jews to prove to them that there is no way that they could possibly fulfill the Law...only Christ could do that....therefore they looked to the cross...In the New Testament, this was written for the Gentiles, and we look back to the cross at what Christ has done for us...

Thank God I am forgiven...and that I serve a Risen Saviour...That I dont have to be perfect, just forgiven....We serve a very loving and powerful God...and we are blessed more than we ever deserve... but we shall never have a perfect world, bodies, or beings until we are in Heaven...

That is the Blessed Hope of Jesus and His 2nd Coming....

Thank you for allowing me to post my feelings on this subject....
    Have a great day...
    Huggs and Blessings,
    Oceans, Debby <*))))<<<

  2. Anne,

I just realized "something of significants" also, that there are people in this world that have such a narrow out look of God's reason for anything, are trying to put themselves in the position of judging and GOD is the only One who can judge and the only One who has those answers.. to presume for any reason, that one deserves an illness, because of something they may or may not have done in their lives is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard, (psycological, or that one has sinned, or that one has a lack of faith)

So I would like to know from "something significant", tell me what is lacking in a child that they deserve to have cancer, be crippled, born with all the the child hood disabilities that there are.

Most people think before they speak or write, some people have compassion, for people that are ill or less forturnate.............

And some people are just "DUMB ASSES!" Just a thought, nothing more.

    Have a good day Anne

  3. Nope.

    What a bunch of BS!

According to Casey's friend: "What they all have in common is that they do not believe that illness might be part of God's plan for some and that there must be something lacking in the one with the illness. They all imply that there is something that the one with the illness must have done to deserve the illness."

... If this is true then the easiest way to never get sick is to NOT believe in God. And, since atheists and religious people both get sick this blows the theory to pieces!

  4. Anna - There are people who believe that pain, illness and death are all a part of God's plan. Personally I do not believe that God says "hey you, your going to get cancer because I think it will teach you and the people around you a great lesson." There are also people who believe that our lives are completely predetermined, but typically they mean that beause God knows all he can see the choices we will be faced with and the results of those choices before we makes them. I'm sure you are already aware of all of that.

Ultimately I think this "friend" made an incredibly poor choice in word and sensativity to post her sudden realization

  5. I believe this could have been worded alot better... To me, it is saying that this person has realized these beliefs are completely wrong. They could've said it MUCH better to clarify. This would be a better way of phrasing the differences...

These beliefs are all implying that:
~ The illness isn't part of God's plan
~ The person must be lacking something
~ The person must've done something to deserve it

Then, to clarify more, the person could've said something along the lines of "I don't agree with that at all..."

"Do people really feel this way?"

To each, their own... I'm sure there are people out there who hold these beliefs to be true. I've dated such people. One told me that nothing was wrong and I must've been a drug addict (by the way, they were addicted to both alcohol and marijuana) and the other told me nothing was wrong because it was all in my head... Such people do exist, but I would hope most don't follow these patterns...

I can't imagine people believing in these things, and I think that the person who posted this was only trying to state the implications that these beliefs held... To clarify more, though, the person could've said something along the lines of "I don't agree with this at all..." However, they do not tell readers where they stand on this matter and that makes things confusing unless you personally know him/her...

"If this is a thought, nothing more, then why the hell is it started with the author realizing 'something significant'?"

TRUE! This is quite the contradiction... First they make it sound like something BIG that needs discussion, but then they down~play it to a mere rhetorical posting... So, which one is it??? Again, he/she isn't clear on this which confuses readers very much...

Personally, I think everything that happens is part of God's plan or is our own free will... I agree with Debbie on this one, to say that someone did something or sinned to get this illness brought upon them, is judging them... Whether they did all good things or all bad things their judgement will come after their life is over here... For example, I've seen many people that do bad things have perfectly healthy lives and I've seen people who do countless good deeds have bad health problems... It is not up to us to point out what someone deserves for punishment... I believe the quote is "He who casts the first stone..."

Frankly, when others come up with these responses (sin, lack of faith, or it is all in their head) as a solution, it is only to cover up their own ignorance and a substitute for saying, "I don't know the answer"... Instead of just admitting they don't have the knowledge, they make up answers that can't really be proved to cover their @$$...

Anywho, enough about the negative... I wasn't sure how to rate this one with the stars... If I rated it with 5 stars then it might be assumed that I agreed with those statement, whereas if I rated it with 1 star it might be seen as a slash on your opinion... So confusing!!!

    SO...

For the thoughts that illness is a result of sin, lack of faith, or it all being in someone's head, I give 0 stars...

For your discussion and bringing up this matter, as well as the intelligent responses people have, I give 5 stars!

There, matter settled... Hee hee hee...

I love you too, Much Much!

  6. Ya know, I always start off thinking I don't know what to say in the comment box, but then it ends up being a LONG comment! Does it to me every time... I guess that's why you call me "Motor Mouth"!!! hee hee hee

  7. I really don't think that person's comment was necessary. For her/him to post something like "someone that is ill or in pain is lacking in some way" on the page of someone that is fighting with illness was very wrong. Sorry but that's the way I feel.

  8. I read that over an over again and HOPE that what the person meant was that the commonly held belief was WRONG and that they all "do not believe that the illness is part of God's plan"

I hope that is what they meant because if they meant anything else then THEIR belief has led them down a path that is hurtful and mean spirited.....

They perhaps need to clarify this.

  9. How absolutely ignorant. I can't believe someone would leave that on someone else's page. If they feel that, post it on their own page and take full ownership for their beliefs.

Secondly, what human (besides Jesus of course) would ever have the right to decide who has faith enough in God? I did not know we were to be judges on this.

  10. Sadly, I can tell you from my own experiences that there ARE people who believe this to be true. I had several "friends" come forward thusly when word began to come out about Maxwell the alien. This was ONE of the reasons I chose to stop bringing my story out in the public in many places. I was afraid that the thoughtless comments of THOSE kind of people might inadvertantly bring pain to those around me and at the time, I had no way to defend those around me from this.

  12. No Anne, everyone doesn't feel this way. Sadly, there are people who do.

But, I'm sure that there are people with chronic illnesses who ask God what they might have done to deserve such an illness, maybe wondering if God is punishing them for something they might have done... Everyone's beliefs in God are different and everyone perceives Him differently.

I believe that God has our life planned out from the time of conception. He knows who will have chronic illnesses and knows who will survive and who will die while they face these illnesses. He has a plan for everyone, some shorter than others.

This is my opinion and my opinion only. This is how I choose to believe that God 'works'. Hopefully the way I worded it will not offend anyone...

  13. There is group of Christian who wrongly believe this as a universal truth, until something happens to them and they are forced to re-evaluate their doctrine. There are consequences to actions, but most of those are fairly obvious.

  14. Sad to say many have this kind of belief. Many of my friends, IRL and on the web, believe I lack faith for my illnesses. Not all of them and enough. I accept them anyway, and they accept me.

  15. Such was the mistaken belief of the ruler of the synagogue here. Jesus set him right, to applause from the congregation — in a life-or-death situation, which says something about the spirit there at the time.

  16. We have no right to judge others, only Jesus has that authority. Since I've become disabled with
a few illnesses I've been told lots of things!!! :( One was that God wanted me to suffer to help
others who were burdened by sin! One woman said I must of done some pretty bad things to have upset God this much and the best one was, If you think your Jesus is so great why don't he heal you?
So, we are all subject to other people's ignorance and I walk away or just don't answer. I don't
think such people are worthy of an answer. I belonged to a Prayer Group that just didn't give me
the peace and tranquility that my other Group had done. My husband had to drag me there, and when we belong to the other Group I was waiting in the car for him. I would come home from the
new group grouchy and sad..weird feelings and ones you shouldn't have after a night of prayer. I
even founded it difficult to pray. When I couldn't go anymore they never called or came to see me, except for one woman and she only came to give digs and see what was going on. She told me that I should stop eating and lose the weight and I would get all better. I didn't know how to
get rid of her!! :) Then one day my daughter came home for the weekend and I had been doing
a course in meditation and one book was called "Awakening the Buddha Within", so she brought me a "little Buddha" and I thought he was so cute. Well, that woman came that night and
I showed her my cute little Buddha and she nearly had a stroke. She told me not to put it near
her and she got up and went home!!! That was three years ago and I never see hide nor hair
of her or her husband!!! It has been a topic of hilarious laughter when we all get together. I'm
just amazed at how some of these people think and act. Gosh, I'm sorry....I guess I wrote a book.
My favorite thing is talking....can you tell??? Blessings to everyone..... Bev

  17. Those of the "overly indulged religions" love to play that blame game, don't they. And by "overly indulged" I do mean those who are the fanatics. Not everything has an explanation. At least not one that would make any sense to humankind.

But honestly, haven't we all known someone who had a strong faith and belief system who died of cancer or some other disease when they in fact lived a perfect life with no bad habits to have caused their problems???? I have known several.

(I am here at 4:30am because my daughter just left for the airport to return home. So I stayed up to do a last minute blog.)

  20. I feel for you, Anne. When I see other's ordeal I try my best not to judge because I know I don't have the right to do so. One, it didn't happen to me, so I wouldn't know what went wrong. Two, it's easy to say this or that, when we're not the person going through the ordeal. Three, each person is made differently by God & have been brought up differently, so we react differently to each ordeal that we face. Last but not least, the different reasons we're here. I'm here to learn and broaden my knowledge & horizons. And I will treasure the friendships that I made along the way...

So don't trouble yourself when you come across this. Maybe it's that person's belief or maybe he/she has been brought up that way. Or maybe, but I hope not, that person's reason to be here is to annoy others because he/she gets satisfaction by doing that. We can only guess...

To me if someone wrote something insincerely, he/she is not worth my time...
    Hugs to both of you.

  21. OK
    Here's her final words.
She said that she didn't mean it like it sounded, just that it came out wrong.
    Here is her edit:

"Edit: Apparently, this blog is not clear to some. I am not condoning these things nor am I saying that they are right. Obviously, it is unjust to think such things. To be so unloving as Job's friends, Christians who talk of "faith-healings" as though they have no responsibility to love, and the secular world that prescribes psych meds for everything, is a tragedy. I hope that I have made this blog more clear."

I thought I should add this for everyone.
