Record temperatures could be set today in Green Bay

June 24, 2009
Green Bay saw temperatures reach a record high Tuesday and might see a repeat today.

The thermometer hit 95 degrees at 5 p.m. Tuesday, passing the record of 94 degrees set in 1934.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service at Austin Straubel International Airport in Ashwaubenon say today’s temperature is likely to top out somewhere between 91 and 96 degrees.
The record is 95 degrees is 1937.

The National Weather Service is advising residents in the central and northeastern parts of the state to take precautions to avoid heat stroke, including wearing loose fitting, light colored clothing and drinking plenty of fluids.

Forecasters said they expect a cold front to move into the region today and sag to the south. Thunderstorms are expected to come with that front and a few stronger storms may produce small hail, gusty winds and heavy rainfall.

Storms are expected to return to the region late Friday night through Saturday night.

A spokesman at Wisconsin Public Service Corp. said energy use to run air conditioners today isn’t expected to set any records.

  2. It's been in the mid to upper 90's here for the better part of a week now with no end in sight for at least a week....at least what the weather man says anyway. At least the humidity went downa bit today so it didn't seem quite as bad as it has the past few days. Mother Nature sure could use some hormones to help her out with this major hot flash she's having...

  3. William called today- Saying kind of got a real chuckle out of this story.

Prattville, AL has been in the midst of this godawful heat wave for over a week. And no rain either.
They are melting down there too.

But William, you are used to it. (Sort of). See, us delicate ones north of that Mason Dixon line are dying of heat prostration.
    hehehe

    Love to all!

  4. Well I'm pretty darn hot here in Nova Scotia and that is truly amazing!!! We hardly ever had a
heat wave and what I call a heat wave is nothing to you guys, but today it was in the 80's with
a humidex of 95 and that is HOT here on the ocean. The ocean breeze was gone, the fog was
lurking in the background and we had a downpour this morning. Then at 3p.m. the sun came
out and it was so hot I thought we would melt.

That is my weather venting for today!! I hope everyone will feel a bit cooler soon. I don't do
much on these days because I don't want to aggravate my asthma, so I use my puffers and try
to stay as cool as possible.. Whew...not today!!

    Good night!!!

  5. Sweet Bev;
Why DOES it always seem so nice while it is raining- and when it is over it seems worse than before?
    I never understood that either-
But nor would I ever trade the rainbows that come with these storms in the afternoons...

Know that I am not on any kind of inhalers, and still when it is so humid, I swear it is hard to breathe when it is so humid.
