[My] Life in Wisconsin

Flintville's Very Own "Garden of Weeden"

I am sure we have all read this one...
I received it in my email, along with a message that I was doing good work, and to "keep up the good work"...

One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.
They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, 'How was the trip?'
'It was great, Dad.'
'Did you see how poor people live?' the father asked.
'Oh yeah,' said the son.

'So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?' asked the father.
The son answered:

    * I saw that we have one dog and they had four..
    * We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end..
    * We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.
    * Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.
    * We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.
    * We have servants who serve us, but they serve others.
    * We buy our food, but they grow theirs.
    * We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them.'

The boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added , 'Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are.'

Good Afternoon Everyone;
The above picture representing still another thing I should probably not have been doing. (Not that I did much, but carry things back and forth), to build up that pile...

At about 6:30 yesterday morning, as I was changing, I heard a tractor.  never knowing if this represents my hope that the neglected fields will be finally tended to; or something else, I had to take a peek. (It was "something else"). hehehe
Neighbor Greg had his tractor and mower out there to take down some noxious growth around the fields.  He had already called work and told them he would be there by nine, so he was up early and working hard.

He offered to dispense with my "Garden of Weeden".
I happily accepted, but warned him that there were old 2 box springs out there, under those weeds. We had burned them last Fall, so all that remained was the spring apparatus within.
When Spring came and the workers came to the field, Kelli had dragged them to the garden, knowing that I was not going to be planting one this year
.

So yesterday, we found one, and he pulled it free of its overgrowth.
We both searched for the other to no avail. Smiling, he said, "IOh, I'll find it", (as he pointed to his pull behind mower).

He sure did! And it shut the whole shebang down.
Thinking he could untwist and unwind it, he crawled under there. A few moments later, after freeing up most of it, he grabbed a large stick of wood from the woodpile by the grill.
And he began to pound... And pound. At that point, I'd come in and brought out a few hammers, and a few pliers and screwdrivers and a tin snips too.

Soon, all but one little piece of wire had been freed.
Wire, mind you, about an inch long, and about the width of a coat hanger.
And it was in-between the blade mechanisms and the deck.
Stuck.
No amount of leverage by screwdriver, or strength by pounding would free it.

Coffee break...

He backed it up under the willow then- Too late for him to be dry-  (The lawns all covered still with 60 degree dew).
I too was wet- my shoes making that slursh~sloopie~ing noise as I walked. And clear up to my knees.
But unlike Greg, I had not been laying on the wet grass either.

We finally called Jim, (next door)- Greg drove it up there and was back mowing within about 20 minutes.  (About the time it had taken me to get redressed).
Enough excitement for one morning...

Casey came out... (She is now up to 101 pounds)!  YAY!

 CaseyFace
She is currently at UWGB, getting her Student ID
Say "YAY!!!"
.
.
At any rate, when she came yesterday, she had stopped at CVS, bringing my new meds with her.  (Which was a very good thing- since I had taken my last one at about 2 in the morning).

My appointment with the pain doctor went well. I will be receiving 2 injections in two different places in my back on the 8th. (I am not looking forward to those, by the way).
First up, I will be having an MRI at St. Marys Hospital next Friday.

Having one
heck of a time writing last night, ("finners" and brain not connecting right), I received this reply...
"I take it the meds mixed with your dial up were too much for a blog?  Yup.

As Dr. Mario saw my xrays from this year and two years ago, he saw 4 or 5 bone spurs that definitely need attention too... (I would say so)!  So to keep my appointment mid next month with the "Spine"ologist.
Results from the MRI will then be in both places. (I love the digitized and shared capabilities of most hospitals and clinics)!

But we did stop at our own clinic before seeing him... Casey went in to pick up my xrays.
Punk and I played a bit of fetch.

So the "I" fetched too!

Later on, Casey, Kelli and Michelle packed up Miss Nadia, (one of Michelle's horses), and Miss Breezie and May, to go over to The Folkman's. Alan trims hooves.
I will leave Casey to put the rest of the pics on her blog... But just wanted to show you a few pics of the equipment involved.

I got to thinking about all the weeds in my pictures.

Then I realized I would very much rather look at them than this...

Yes, I already know that Daddy-Long-Legs are very beneficial.
They are also the ONLY spider I can stand to be near.

Even so...  I would still rather look at my weeds.

So there you have it! Another exciting rendition of my week so far.

Hoping you all have a "wunnaful" weekend!

  1. LOL @ the Daddy Long Legs (I had to retype that 4x, I think your meds are effecting me, LOL). Last week, I stopped a a farm stand for some corn. Stuck my hand in to grab some, came up with not one, but two Daddy Long Legs on the top of my hand. EEEEEKKKKKKKK. I shook them off fast and hard and didn't care who I shook them on, hehe.

Those weeds sure are pretty, can't imagine why you wouldn't want them around.

Punk finds fun everywhere, I swear. Even if it is laughing at her ole lady playin fetch. Hehe

What can I say, Casey is looking good.

I swear I couldn't tell if your story about Greg and the lawn mower was leading up to a horror story or a really cheesy romance story. Thank Goodness it was neither, LMAO

I always loved that parable you lead with :D

  4. I am scared of spiders and anything really that has 8 legs.... So even though your Daddy Long Legs was on the wall, I still would have went running and screaming... LOL

Congratulations to Ms. CaseyFace for getting back to school! YAY! :D Dare I say things are getting back to 'normal'??

Your 'weeds' never look like weeds to me... At least with pretty weeds you shouldn't feel as if you need to pull them, LOL.

Glad that you have friends there who care and are willing to help you out when they can!

I know you're worried about the MRI and the shots... Try to relax about them and just know that if you can get through them there will be relief for your back soon enough...

    Lotsa love to you!

    Slurkie :-)

  7. So glad your pain guy is getting a plan that sounds like it will really help and yes the whole being able to access records between doc and facilities is something we people in the medical biz....even in my billing end I often have to obtain medical records from other sources to help get claims paid and it is a wonderful being able to get them electronically....

YEA!!!!! to Casey's weight gain.....Now if only I could send her some of mine....LOL....

Not a big spider fan meself......

    LOVE YA!!!!!

  8. You had me worried there about that spring getting tangled in the big mower part. I could just picture it turning loose while someone was under there with those blades! Glad that went well after all.

YAY!! Miss CaseyFace is looking good!

Love that little story up top. Looks like we always want what others have. Even if we already have it good sometimes LESS is actually MORE.

  9. Sweet SlurkieBaby!
I too hate spiders- But not too sure about the octopus, or the king crabs... hehehe

Perhaps I have just mistakenly grown the perfect background for the flowers?! hehehe I daresay I wouldn't use it in an arrangement! (Or maybe I shall try and see how it keeps)!
It is in my blood to want to pull the grasses out.
    The flowers, not so much.

    PS
You used that "normal" word on my blog again!
    That terrifies me.

  10. Sweet Carolyn!
Oh my goodness, where have you been? I have missed you my friend!

I am truly arachnaphobic. But I think I must have played with the D-LL-'s before I knew what they were. I really do remember playing with them when I was very little out by the old garage.

The 'spring' fiasco really was funny at first-
Not so much after the 1st hour of sweat mixed with the dew... And since Greg had driven the tractor over here, I do wonder what time he finally got to work too. (He can't get fired, he sorta "owns" the place).

The pain doctor was very nice- And only asked me once which leg my pain ran down. (He must have believed me that it doesn't go down either). Others have asked me upwards of a half dozen times. (Do they think that i will say "the left one" just to make them stop asking)??? wth?

Happy you like my "background" too.
    hehehe

  11. Sweet Pea;
First and foremost I am so glad to see you on! I do not care about your house- ONLY that you are SAFE.

Your last sentence made me giggle...
I did know that about the DLL's. But it has no fangs!
What happens if a dog eats one then? (I shall try not to get upset if one startles me).

Sorry these replies are taking so long... "The Game" is on, (and they have damn near tried to give me a heart attack in this last quarter)...
Still love my heart attack Pack. At this point there are 81 points on the board! Must be that thin air...

Casey, all things considered, really did break back into school.
There is no stopping that girl- She is like a steamroller, and the heck with anything brave enough to think they can stand in her way...

  12. Sweet Melody!
I feel for you when you don't hace access to the records electronically... Course you already know I hate your job. (OK Just your fleabag boss-lady).

I swear Casey can lose/gain/lose 10% of her body weight in a mere week.
Know that you have to take a number to send her yours- there's a few of us there already. (Unless you can do it electronically)! hehehe

FINALLY, that darn Packers Game is over. Good grief, I hate those scary endings...

  13. No worries Sweet PeachieBaby!,
That tractor and its mower were completely shut down. (In a hurry too)
And I am sure his blades were quite dull too- (He had hit 3 large rocks out in the field before he'd hit that lil old box spring).

I called up to Joanie and Jims- Think I might have disrupted their morning time- coffee and newspaper. After Greg had left here I quick called Joanie and apologized. She wasn't upset in the least either. These guys like tackling stuff like this anyway.

Casey DOES look good, doesn't she?
After 4 or 5 years of posting pics of her looking so sick, I like these shots much better!

As for the up top story. It takes a child to give us perspective on the whole thing.
    Gotta love those kids.

    hehehe

  17. Mmmmmmmmmmmm.
And LOTS of melted butter too!
'Course I ate lobster before I knew I was pg with Bobbe, and later got sick at the bowling alley-
(We had some playoff thing. I don't normally go out to eat before I go bowling)! hehehe
I always blamed it on the lobster... But now am thinking it might have been something else entirely.

  18. I'd hold off trying it till you get past being nauseated. It could ruin your opinion forever.

  19. Your weeds are absolutely wonderful.. sure wish my weeds were colorful.. most of mine are not!
So very glad your starting to get some relief from that back.. you sure do deserve that! I shall continue to keep you in the prayers and praying for relief for you.

When you said.. he said.. he would find it.. I was thinking oh thats not good! Thats exactly why now.. I have decided to always haul off couches.. or beds or anything that has metal in it that isnt gonna burn. I have really great trashtruck guys. They are awesome about picking up stuff that really they are not supposed to pick up, but honestly according to them, they are just saving themselves a trip.

Luckly I had Bim that came and cleaned my burning pile area.. I have promised myself its not gonna happen or be that way again. So far so good.. knock on wood!

Yeah for Casey! Very proud of her both for the student ID and the weight gain! Both are awesome news!

  20. Oh about that spider... Yes hes a good spider.. but something you may or may not know.

Did you know Daddy longlegs are the most poisonous spider in the US.. (I think the world but Im not sure) Its just that his mouth is so small that he cant bite you. But he eats other spiders.

So the good of the spider.. means that you have other spiders or he wouldnt be there. Now doesnt that make you feel much better.

    hehe

Oh .. and instead of butter.. try dipping crab or lobster or crawdads into vinegar instead of butter.. its really tasty and much better for you.

  21. thats my girl! No one had better EVER try to stop her when she puts her mind to something.

  23. Casey is looking great. Glad the mowing was done. I guess your neighbor did find the other springs. Sounds like it took some work to get the wire out of the mower.
