[My] Life in Wisconsin

Before Our Flintville Christmas

Thank You!

Good Morning All;
And a "Holly~Jolly" two days after to everyone!
Once more I have been having many problems with my computer, and the fact that Multiply chooses the heart of the day to do its updating-  So, I did what any normal person does on the day after... I napped like a kitten with a full belly.

Nice when sleep comes... I had gotten those shots in my back on Christmas Eve- Not a bit of relief either, but we made it there and back without any real problems on the roads of ice/snow.

I hope your Christmas was "wunnaful", though I know many people had many problems with the weather.  Knowing that my sister Barbara was on the road with her hubby as they headed west to Texas was not a happy thought-  I haven't heard from them, and am assuming all is well.

William and Lawrence called on Christmas Eve- So nice to hear those voices on the other end of the line!  All is well in Prattville- threatening rain, but at that point had very little that actually fell.  Lawrence sounding so very grown up!

As far as the storm went, (and it went far and wide), I hope everyone hunkered down to enjoy a quiet, safe and warm day; where ever you might have ended up.

This photo stolen from NOAA- showing what this storm was like on the eve of Christmas Eve.

NOAA CLOUDS
This NOAA satellite image taken Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2009 at 12:45 a.m. EST shows a developing storm system in the Southern Plains, which is generating a mix of snow and freezing rain over eastern Colorado and Kansas. Moreover, widely scattered showers and thunderstorms are noted across the Southern Plains and Mississippi Valley.

Then this picture on Christmas Day, actually showing an "eye" in Minnesota...

This is what it left behind here...

Casey and Greg were out bright and early trying to remove snow and ice so people could actually get to the front door without killing themselves in the process.

This picture, taken on Christmas Eve- As the snow just kept on coming down. And just enough to screw up the sidewalks too.

Cnv1913

No hat???

Not too chilled, but a fresh glass of eggnog always warms up the innards!

And the nog that won't flow out of the cup? No problems. (And no need for a thorough pre~rinse either when this dog is around).

Cnv1916

I promise the glass got washed... hehehe

It helps too, to warm up by playing a bit...

Cnv1917

Sheesh kids, hasn't your mama ever told you not to play on the steps???

Cnv1907

Colors of Christmas also warm the spirit...

Cnv1903

And the mistletoe?

Cnv1910

...also has a warming effect

Cnv1909

Awwwww......   Sweet, aren't they?

And all dressed up with nowhere to go!

Cnv1911
hehehe

Cnv1912

Who ARE these people???

And who is this little guy trying to make his exit without being caught?

Cnv1902

I'd better close for now- Darn computer wants to do a bit of updating, and I must update my shower for the day!

Hope you are all having a very special Christmas Week!
My love to all

XOXO

  1. This isn't the first time I remember seeing your daughter in just a tank top after shoveling, hard for me to comprehend that something so little can be so warm in that type of weather. Looks like a joyous time for family. (((ANNE)))

  2. lol, I think the puddycat wanted some of that eggnog too! Glad that your family had a wonderful Christmas!

  3. His lordship's just come in from shovelling the remains of the ice-storm that hit here yesterday, but we seem to have got off a lot lighter than you. The tops of our silver birch trees were touching the patio of the house out back where the weight of the ice had bent them over! It's all melting away now and they're springing back upright again.

    Fabulous photos xxx

  4. Casey is nuts, twice I have seen her in a tank. But yet there is snow on the ground outside!
Love the Santa curtain climber, i remember my grandma had one kinda like that.
I think I need to hang a mistletoe all year long, if I could get a kiss like that now an then ;)

  7. Great pics as usual
Ours was a nice Christmas. Had my Granddaughter on Christmas morning. It's been a long time since I've had a little one in the house for that special day. We told her that Santa would disappear if he knew she was awake so as soon as she saw Santa crossing the Atlantic on Norad Santa Tracker ..she was in her PJ's and off to bed. lol
I second that...not a big eggnog fan myself. Well i guess that leaves more for Punkie !!

  8. I loved your Christmas pictures!

I'm so sorry to hear the shots for your back didn't help.

The picture of the eye of the Christmas snow storm is amazing!

It's nice to know other people let their dogs/cats lick their eggnog glasses too.

With the little bit of snow shoveling experience I've had I would be in a tank top after shoveling like Casey too. You bundle up, then work up a sweat shoveling, then come back into a house with a heat difference of 50º - 60º from the outside temps and it feels like a sauna! (I also noticed the little monkeys on Casey's tank top too. That's Casey!)

I had a quiet Christmas. I worked Christmas Eve, got off Christmas morning and went to mom's for breakfast, then worked Christmas night.

  9. Hey we even had a white CHRISTmas. Three inches of snow, of course it pretty much all melted with in two days or less, but was pretty. I want to see it and then it is fine if it it slides away....lol. My Huband is taking vacation days this week so will be fun to have him bum around with me. Love to you and loved the pictures...so cute.

  11. Sweet Oka;
It's a hot and heavy job, especially when mixed with the rains we got on Xmas.
And I giggle at the fact that she IS so little- A whole 5' 3", and just over 100 pounds (finally).

Back when the girls were little, on occasion I would let them sleep in Mama's bad with me. They were all little furnaces.
When Casey came along, she was furnace times 5. Many was the time I needed no little blanket to cover me if we were cuddled on the couch. Ah, we wouldn't fit anymore, but what I wouldn't give to say 'yes' even more often when they'd asked, (elbows and knees not withstanding)...

  12. Sweet Suzy!
    Sputty is a freak!
...And he only wants the stuff from the casserole dishes- Well, that and meow mix.
(He gets to push Punk out of the way on those big dishes, and it must give him some weird cat~power to know she will move for him when he does that).

He politely has declined any offer of nog. hehehe

    Mrs. G.!
I am laughing at his Lordship trying to shovel ice, and trust it was as hysterical as my thoughts were of it.

Isn't is pretty how those trees can bend, even in the dead of winter, and still live, and leaf, the next Spring? One of those miraculous things that I always wonder at!
Not to say we haven't lost a tree or two- the branches weighing down so heavily- but the 'cracks' come usually either real early or real late in the season for ice.

When they 'spring' back to their normal positions, it is with a great dusting of snow for all the trees around them too. I once got to see one come back upright- and the motion set off a domino effect! Awesome.
    the power of nature!

  14. Hiya Sweet Brat!
Casey IS nuts- But that's beside the point...
I do have a few drops of oil left in my drum in the basement, and keep the heat kind of reasonable in here. (Not that I would be caught with a tank top on in Winter, even under everything). Here I thought a Playtex and a turtleneck WERE underwear on these days. hehehe

The mistletoe- (or "kissletoe" as we call it) could be left up all year. Mine is fake.
But even fake mistletoe works, right?

    sigh...
Rumor does have it that they have a gift to Jamaica, Aruba, or some other place, for a year from now- (Must only get their passports, everything else is paid for)...
    Maybe... ?
(Man, do I have to kick Greg in the backside)?!? hehehe

    YOU DON'T LIKE EGGNOG?!???
    YOU DON'T LIKE EGGNOG?!???

  16. Sweet Bug;
This is my 2nd Christmas NOT having babies underfoot- And I would much rather have been in your own shoes! Giggling at your granddaughter jumping in bed as she wasn't about to be good for all that time just to worry about not being asleep! hehehe

I do like eggnog- Liked it better when there could be a splash of brandy in it though. (If I did that now, I would topple over right off with the pills I take for my back; (and would probably take out the tree and a few innocent bystanders with it).

Casey might have a story to tell about 'having to have' mama's eggnog back when.

    XOXO

  17. Sweet RT;
Happy your Christmas was serene- Sometimes a schedule (and a scheduled nap), on these holidays is all we have to maintain our sanity. hehehe I know my own schedule was exactly that, back when.
Damn shots anyway- I have an appointment tomorrow morning (30th), to go back to the pain doctor. These shots make my head go wacky and he said it wouldn't be like that anymore. He's made $1,000's (literally) off me since I have been going there in September, and the least he can do is make it all go away. (Methinks anyway).

You are absolutely right about the "shovel and re~enter" thing. Times were that we would do chores in the winter, come in, get in the shower and just try to stay cool, even when my parents kept the heat around 60- Course with my wet hair, I would lie on the floor by the register and 'blow dry' it when the furnace kicked in.
I didn't mind the forced air then- But my next home will have more quiet and undusty heat. Sure blows the fur around...

Casey LOVES monkeys. (They remind her of the family and friends she has not been given the chance to have around).

As far as licking the dishes... There are plenty worse things that could be on that dinnerware, so I really could care less about a little dog/cat spit. True.

    XOXO

  18. Sweet Beth!
You had 3" of snow!?! I call that a real gift when one lives in Texas. (And here, YOU said there'd be no presents for Christmas this year)!
    Happy you had "pretty"!

Giggling at hubby being home- Randy has the rest of the year off too, (and then some). These guys just keep working all year long so they can cram all their unused vacation days into this last month or so.
    Funny that.

    Please send melting weather northward.
As I type it is 3 little degrees. (They are lonely and want more).

That's the spirit, having Christmas go on and on and on!

Glad you are enjoying your season too! We should all be so lucky to have such spirit all year long- Or at least for an extra day/week!

  21. Hi Sweet Mommy!!!

You’re most welcome!! I’m so glad you liked it! :D

I’m so sorry those shots didn’t help. I really wish there was something I could do to make it all better and heal all the issues… Or at least find a way to make you pain-free… I feel completely helpless in this position and just want to “kiss it all better” like you used to do with me… Actually, like you still do for me!! Remember, I’m only a hop-skip-jump away if you need anything…

It was so nice that William called! Even though they are hundreds of miles away, it’s so great that phones exist: they don’t seem so far away then…

I, too, hope that Aunt Barbara and Uncle Doctor made it to and from Texas without weather difficulties… They must’ve been looking forward to seeing those grandbabies!

WHEW! That NOAA picture looks like the storm was engulfing half the U.S. at the time… That sure was some nasty stuff that hit the ground… It had bad timing, too, with all the travelers that were heading out to visit family and friends. I’m so happy that we all are okay, though…

That first picture of me looks like I have a shovel load of snow, but it’s just an illusion because that snow is actually on the chair in the background! Makes me look strong, though… :D

Yes, my mother did tell me not to play on the steps, yet that didn’t stop us! (Course it didn’t stop me from getting that darned concussion in the 8th grade either! Oops…) I should really learn to listen to you, huh???

The pictures of the Christmas spirit are WONDERFUL!!! You are such an excellent photographer… I had to laugh out loud at the escaping Santa Claus! I guess since we don’t have a fireplace, he had to sneak in a different way… No worries about fitting through places when you’re that tiny though! Funny, I always pictured him as bigger… :D

Thank you, also, for the spectacular Christmas! I absolutely LOVE the shirt you gave me!! The day was special and filled with love and that made it perfect in my mind! The food was great, as it is every year! My mouth is watering just thinking about it… I must make my way to our fridge and have some leftovers, MMMMMMM… (One of these days I’m going to have to pick up that cooking gene from you!)

    I love you MUCH MUCH!
    ~Casey

Now.... About that eggnog story... ;)

  22. THE EGGNOG STORY...

It was the holiday season and I was young, probably about 8 but I can't remember for certain... We had gone to the grocery store and picked out the stuff we needed for Christmas morning. One of those things happened to be eggnog.

Now, I wasn't your normal kid that liked it every now and then. I happened to be one that could sit down and drink a gallon of it in one sitting. I LOVED the stuff!!! So of course buying the eggnog before Christmas led to me pestering Mom day in and day out for a drink of it...

    "Can I have some eggnog?"

Mom: "No dear, we need to save that for Christmas..."

    Me: "Just one drink?? PLLLLLEEEEAAAASSSSEEEE???"

After a few "no" replies, I went to my room to keep myself busy... A little while later, I heard Mom's voice from downstairs...

"Casey, come down and have your eggnog!!"

I leaped to my feet, bolted down the stairs and ran to the kitchen. There stood two glorious glasses of eggnog... Just waiting to be drank up! YUM!!! I dove for the first glass...

I took a nice, BIG swig...

And promptly spit it out into the sink...

"What's the matter?" Mom innocently asked.

I wiped my mouth with a paper towel, "It tastes funny."

Mom looked puzzled. "I wonder why that is?" she pondered.

"Maybe because it has ice in it?" I suggested.

Mom came up with an easy solution: "Here, this one doesn't have ice in it, try that...". She handed me the second glass on the counter.

Again, eagerly awaiting my eggnog satisfaction, I took a long pull off the glass...

Again, it was spit out in the sink... "Gross, why does it taste so bad?" I ask, trying to get the awful taste out of my mouth...

"What's the matter?" Mom asked, "You don't like brandy in your eggnog???"

That put a screeching halt on my constant nagging for eggnog... She hadn't put but a few drops or so in it... Just enough for me to taste something wrong, and that was all I needed...

She did let me have a normal glass of eggnog after all that, but I learned not to constantly bug her about stuff!! One of those "be careful what you wish for" things!!! But boy was I MAD it tasted just awful... Looking back on it now, though, it's hilarious!!!

  23. Look into radiant floor heat, it's the absolute best way to heat a house. The hot water is supplied by your hot water heater, which in turn can run off of solar panels. There's nothing better than a nice warm floor on bare feet. The only draw-back is it works best on bare floors without carpeting.

I hope your shots work better for you today.

  24. Looks like a wonderful day.. although a bit icy. We got a little snow off that same circle of weather.. which was really cool!

Casey and Greg are a very cute couple! It does warm the spirit to see.

Happy Christmas and a very Merry New Year to you!
