"Lost" in Think...

G
ood Morning All;
I hope all is well in your little corner of reality.
I know I am way far behind- I promise to try to keep up better. I have had the need to be more involved at the pancreatitis group that I am part of. I shall post a note about that after this...

I found this within an email from About.com.

Quote of the week:

"The search for the truth is an important search, and if it isn't, we're lost in all kinds of ways.
  • We're lost in the fields of Holocaust denial.

  • We're lost in being able to compare what is good and what is bad because we can't agree what actually happened.

  • We're lost when it comes to guarding minorities against populist agitation.

Nobody's going to die from saying Shakespeare wasn't Shakespeare, but in other areas, when the truth suffers, our [own] decision making suffers.

When there is no authority to the truth, prejudices thrive.
"
D. Aaronovitch

I understand the quotation.
What I don't understand is why it had to be penned in the first place.

What do you think?
-Are we truly that prejudiced against our fellow human beings?
-Are we that narrow?
-Are we that stupid?
-Are we that blind?
-Are we that cold?
-What else may have suffered along the way?
-Whom has suffered?
-When will it [ever?] be enough?

I believe your answers may make my heart sad.

Have a 'wunnaful' day
Love to all.

XOXO
Me

  1. Though we may all, at times be that narrow, blind, prejudiced, cold and stupid, we have the ability to rise above our shortcomings and reach for better things.

    OXOX,

  2. True enough.
But then would we not differ on our definitions of "better"?

  3. Im not really sure how to answer this, I think that Irrpslady has it right in that we can all put ourselves or our loved ones first before strangers, however I also believe that most people want to do the right thing in general, hence the fact that when there is crisis and disasters most people try to do their bit to help.
As for searching for the truth, I suppose that everyones truth depends on their point of view, its the old thing about 30 people witness an accident, there will be 30 versions of what happened, in amongst all of those will lie the truth.

And if that wasnt what you were asking then I`ll be outside on my bicycle :)

    Hugs

  4. I think as long as their is politics, multiple religions, and different cultures there will always be the prejudice, narrow, stupid, blind, and cold. Many people will never be able to think worldly, not in the true sense. And I am not saying it is right...

  5. Unfortunately, there are so many people with tiny minds, totally unable to accept 'difference' and so stuck in their own narrow minded little happenings, that prejudice in all its nasty and invasive guises will be around for a long, long time. As an 'International School' teacher, I've taught children of all colours, races and creeds. I've watched them work and play together with laughter and enjoyment and seen the truth in the sentiment that 'Prejudice is not born, it's made.'

If only we could follow the innocence of children, instead of them following the hatred we breed in them, the world would be a much better place.

  6. I believe that we are .. that cold and heartless.. think of the children that bully other children.. think of the adults that bully other adults and children alike..

    Its sad..

To make fun of others because they are different.. to make fun or discredit for no other reason than a difference of opinion.

People are cruel and the children see it and follow the same lead.. ...

    its all very sad

  7. I would like to say no to these questions but I can't. Is EVERYONE like this? No, I don't think so but the majority are. Look at all the homeless in America... If we truly weren't that cold and blind, there wouldn't be ANY homeless.

And I wouldn't say stupid as much as much as naive...

  9. It is unfortunate that...the very things that makes us different is the very things that keeps us apart. But wouldn't it be boring as heck if we all "looked" alike, "sounded" alike, and "thought" alike. But on the up side of that statement, we would have nothing to complain about or talk about either. LOL!

  10. Yes we are to all of the questions

BUT we can change and turn situations around ALL we have to do is listen, watch, learn or educate, act upon and change things even though we may be going out on a limb

  11. I'm afraid that acceptance, tolerance and empathy are dieing virtues. What ever happened to treating others the way we would want to be treated?

  12. Well you could be like me and on alternating days, I love everyone or can not for the life of me figure them out. I never could understand where prejudice comes from. There are plenty of folks that I would like to throttle. You know if they hurt my Family, Friends, or are just down and out mean. However, to hate and make a blanket statement about any religion, race, etc. etc. does not make any sense to me. Are bigots afraid, insecure, ignorant, (that one gets my vote), what is their deal. Again, I have no magic answers, wish I did, but don't. Actually, I think the answer is staring me in the face. Get back to God and a few things might work themselves out. Those that don't believe, I think we are stuck with them. For the time being anyway....hehehe.
