[My] Life in Wisconsin

The Mailbox, (mine). The Auction, (theirs). And the Trailer, (Kelli's).

The deer trail, through the field,
And heading straight to my little squash plants!
Grrr...

Good Afternoon All;
I had thought we would be 'on the road again' now. Fresh Air
Such is obviously not the case, (I have a hard time keeping the car on the road while typing). hehehe

I am sick-ish and in pain. This is NO damn way to go through life.
My head was stuffy yesterday and Lordy, it just ached. My back refuses to offer anything but pain.

I already know that I probably shouldn't have even tried to cut the lawns on Sunday, but they needed it so bad. That, combined with no Packer game, (on Sunday anyway), -along with the sunshine -and lack of much wind- made for a great day to mow.
Do not be telling me not to do this. It has to be done. More, I have never paid money to have this done, and I am not about to start now. Lawns are personal.
hehehe

Autumn
Autumn in Flintville- Taken from my mailbox.

Speaking of my mailbox... I have just received word from the USPS that my mailbox has to be raised 8 inches. I am thinking my mailman probably has new wheels. (Perhaps those wheels should be lowered 8 inches)!
All kidding aside, I am going to be checking around to find out how many others on this route have received this same notice. All of our mailboxes seem the same, or close enough. (Those I have asked already have not received this notification).
I will check with a tape measure if I have to.

More... my mailbox is oddly now missing its reflectors, AND its flag! Whoever did this will be caught if they tamper again-
(Helps to be able to record everything via a wonderful program and a wee little camera). Thank you Greg! hehehe

Anyway, yes, it is Fall- And so lovely all around.
Not too chilly yet. (Getting there though).

If you read my last entry you will remember me stating that I wasn't going to go to my uncles auction. (Uncle Frank and my Aunt Patty are now both deceased, and the family was selling the contents of their beautiful home).
Aunt Patty is my birthmother's sister.

They are pictured below-
Aunt Patty on the far right, kneeling; with Uncle's hand on her shoulder.

Runnoe Family- Donna 4th from left, top
My grandmother, (the only one I ever knew) is seated middle bottom.
My birthmother, Madonna, is 4th from left, top. (Her hubby Bob is 3rd from left).

Casey called me on Saturday morning- Was I still thinking of going to the auction?
Yes. (But it was a little late). I should have known better... Never say never, (and most especially where Casey is concerned)! hehehe
A little while later, we were on the road down to Appleton!

This is my Aunt Vonnie- with Casey, and Cousin Tom Runnoe

Aunt Vonnie, KC, and Cousin Tom Runnoe

Auntie is so full of sparkling spunk! hehehe  Mr. Muscles, Tom, carried out the locking cabinets I had bought and got them in the back of the car.

He didn't carry this out though...

Casey and Aunt Patti's Piano!
Casey, seated at Aunt Patti's piano.
When the crowd moved inside, and later to the finished and beautiful basement, we followed.

There were a few items that I would have bought-
Once, to learn belatedly that I was bidding against Aunt Vonnie on one item! (How bad is that)?! I shut up then.

At times the crowd was reluctant to even start the bidding.
When the auctioneer got to Aunt Patty's piano, no one would offer.
This is the piano she bought when she wanted to learn how to play. After a few lessons, she decided that she would give it up as her fingers would not move fast eough. It was only played a few times.

Aw what the heck, $10.00 someone said. That the someone was me is almost beside the point.  ... Well, someone had to say something.
Casey's eyes lit up.
But of course the auctioneer took it from there continued.

I did stop at Kelli's on the way home to ask if I could borrow the truck and trailer.
Now if only I could find a few good backs...

XOXO
Me

  2. "And heading straight to my little squash plants!"
Do you mean those wonderful differently shaped & coloured ones? Sigh. I almost included them in my last order, but I really have to pick them out myself. I like the ones with 'warts!' If you cover them with acrylic medium they last for years. Don't miss a spot!

"(I have a hard time keeping the car on the road while typing). hehehe"
Let dawger drive while you type.

"Autumn in Flintville" Oh, my! This brings back memories. Beautiful!

"Once, to learn belatedly that I was bidding against Aunt Vonnie on one item! (How bad is that)?! I shut up then."
All's fair with relatives & auctions.

    Great pictures!

"I am sick-ish and in pain. This is NO damn way to go through life."
I'm in pain 24/7, & kinda used to it, but I pulled things out of my art display rack, (someone may want to buy it), & a huge sheet of plastic shattered in very sharp little shards in an area about 5' x 12' on the carpet. Couldn't let kitty get that in her paws! The motor of my little canister vacuum burned out, so I had to drag out my upright. For three days I've felt like I've been run over by a truck & still can't use my right hand. But it had to be done! Nope, no damn way to go through life!

Anyhoo, I enjoyed your blog very much.

  3. OMG! Did Casey buy herself a piano!!?!?!?! So awesome! I know how happy that would make her!

And you look like your mother... I picked her out of the picture without needing to read your directions!

  4. Love the fall picture...its what I miss most living here on the Gulf coast. I miss the changing of the leaves. Unfortunately my other half could care less and it doesn't bother him at all to miss all that beautiful color!
I was raised differently..thank goodness! I miss seeing the relatives I grew up with as well that live up in the mountains.
Nice piano! That's gonna be a real nice addition to whatever room its placed.

Hope the deer didn't make to much squash disappear! lol A good squash dressing would be wonderful..yummy!

  6. Well Anna you lawns look great and the photo of those trees is magnificent and as usual you sent me on a "Outing of learning"
Section D041 of the Domestic Mail Manual contains additional information about curbside mailboxes
In the late 18th century, a mailbox was set up at the current location of Boxtree Rd. and Lewis Rd in East Quogue, NY( The oldest in the US )
I hope you feel better soon Anna I have back pain at the moment as well and is hurts I know.

Oh and that is a lovely piano; When Julie had her Carpal Tunnel operated on she woke and said to the Doctor
OMG will I be able to play the Piano and he said Yes,
    Oh that's great said Julie,
    I couldn't before

  7. Sweet Scootch;
Do you think that Punk could get insurance? Would it be cheaper then if you have 4 legs instead of 2? hehehe

I am also giggling at your love and auctions remark! Too funny!

My mom was the 'artist' here. Lots like Aunt Patty that way, always busy and capable of doing everything from oil paints to reupholstery.

Sorry about your vacuum- Mine still works but it is sitting in the back entrance (and very patiently waiting until I damn well feel like lugging it into the house.

    As for the darn deer...
You are thinking of gourds. They have the warts and come in all shapes and sizes. AND they rattle after they dry out.
These are winter squash- of the butternut variety. Mmmm! They make a tummy rattle just thinking of it- with real butter, salt pepper, and a touch of dark brown sugar...

Now go make yourself better! (Yeah, I know).

  8. OMG Pea,
No. Mama bought Casey a piano- for $10.00.
    hehehe
We even hugged when the auctioneer said "SOLD!"

As for Momma Donna. You should be able to pick her out!

  9. Sweet Denise!
I would miss the Seasons to if I lived where you do. (But I wouldn't miss Winter)!

Sounds like you need to be taking a ride- maybe next year to revisit those mountains and the beauty there.

I "think" the Estey piano is cherry or mahogany- Such a pretty color! I am hopeful we can get a duplex before Aunt Patty's house sells- (Then we'd only have to move that darn piano once). As it is now, I already have a couch here for Casey and Greg- They don't have room at this point... 2 couches in the living room, and I can't have 2 Cabinet Grands in the living room too.
    hehehe
Talk about a well balanced room...

Corn fed, squash fed venison. It's all venison! I don't mind sharing, just that they come and eat a little off of every dang squash! One would think they would be neater...

  11. Thank you Mr. Lester-
My lawns, even though they look much better than before I mowed, still look quite crappy. I mowed for 3+ hours, refilling the gas once, and am less than 1/2 done.
    Oh well.
There are worse things I suppose than having an abandoned looking yard. Besides, after a few hard freezes my little Cub Cadet won't have to work so hard to finish making them look nice(r). hehehe
    Method to my madness.

Happy you looked up the mail info... Was that the oldest, just in the US or in the world?

My back sucks. Maybe yours does too, but am hoping you will heal better than I have.

    Your Julie is funny!

  13. "Do you think that Punk could get insurance? Would it be cheaper then if you have 4 legs instead of 2? hehehe"
Punk might be a better driver than lots of two legged ones I see. Hmm. He'd have to take the written & vision tests. Wouldn't it be fun to have a fake driver's license with Punk's face on it?

It's okay about the vacuum. I murdered it & threw it in the dumpster. I now have a beautiful little lightweight Eureka that's much better...it has wheels & a swivel hose.

Actually, I do mean squash. Crook necked & so on. Haven't you seen warts on pumpkins & spaghetti squash? The ones I mean can be eaten. I like spaghetti squash the best, but they cost over $8. where I live. Butter, fresh ground pepper & sea salt. If you haven't tasted sea salt, please do. I haven't used anything else for years.

"Now go make yourself better! (Yeah, I know)." Hahahahahaha

  14. You already have a piano! (I've seen it in pics) How cool that you got to update it but, what are you going to do with the old one? I'd take it off your hands if I wasn't 1500 miles away! Perhaps Sissy Krissy Poo might want it?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh! and as far as your mailbox goes. Perhaps dig an 8 inch moat around it?

  16. And I'm stealing the fall foliage pic. Damn I miss the changing seasons!

  17. that piano is beautiful! omg, I am glad that you were able to get it! how much did you end up paying for it, if you don't mind me asking? :)

  18. You are right about Punk possibly being a better driver. She does not drink.
But she can fall asleep in the middle of a command. (Sh*t, that sounds like the men I know).
    hehehe

You are NOT supposed to toss murdered anything in the garbage. It is a law. Somewhere.

I don't do spaghetti squash. I don't do any squash but butternut.
    This girl has her allegiances.

I have tasted and used sea salt. But thanks for reminding me not to use regular salt too. I actually use Mrs. Dash every kind on everything.

  24. Hello Sweetie Annie......I have missed you but now I'm here and laughing at your blog and how
forturnate you were to get that great piano for ten Bucks!!!! How lucky can you get??? It's a
    beautiful piece of furniture.

Our foliage has not turned as much as yours, but it will soon enough. It's 70 degrees F. right
now at 2:09 a.m. Very humid.

I have to be off to bed...I'm so tired of doing nothing. My insulin pump is the pits!!! The internist
put too much of a low number for insulin and I end up with sugars of 18 - 23 and they should be
seven!!! It makes me so tired and I could sleep all day. Hugs & blessings, to you, Casey & Punk

  25. Your Autumn is showing! And its beautiful so far. It can only get better.

Did your mailbox shrink? Or maybe sink? My sis had her reflectors go missing on a regular basis. She started buying them at the dollar stores by the bundles. Literally! Yep...even the cheap ones kept getting stolen. She lives out in the country and even had to replace that entire mailbox twice because someone decided to play mailbox baseball with it. I once had my mailbox trampled on by a horse. LOL! It was during a parade going down main street in front of my house out in Texas. The horse stopped and just started backing up and didn't stop till his rear knocked over the mailbox. That parade in particular was the one that George Bush (the young one) was running for Governor and he was doing his political thing by being in the lead car of the parade. I was within 12 feet of that man twice before he became president. Too bad that horse wasn't back up into him instead of my mailbox.:)

Anne...did you really get that gorgeous piano for only 10 bucks! What a steal! I mean...what a deal! Glad you could keep it in the family at least.

About the mowing.....we do what we have to do....especially when its all we've ever known to do. But it sure would be nice to have volunteers to do it for free when you just can't do it yourself.

  26. ahhhhhhh Yay! My Sweet Bev;
I am happy to see you again! Stop being away so long! It scares me.

How come you live in Canada and your not having Fall yet?
I thought maybe you were snowed in already!
    hehehe

You are right about my "buy"!
$10.00 for that piano- All tuned, and with no dust either!
... Do you think I should have started the bidding at $5.00 then?

    XOXO

  27. Sweet PeachieBaby-
It only gets better until the snow flies... (Trust me on that).

Still makes me mad about the reflectors. I much prefer to be able to find at least one of my driveways in the dark of night.

My mailbox gets trampled by the snowplow...
And I will have to put new reflectors on it, before those plows come out for the year...
I have extra ones here- even the orange- (By law you are not have red by the road as it looks like taillights).
But I haven't even gotten my mail in many days.

    Must fly for now.
