[My] Life in Wisconsin

For a Few of you

I need a little input...
I have this growing on my hip... --->
(Please pardon my stretch marks; as they are proof that I carried all 4 of these daughters of mine).
Know too that my skin is darker, and the red is brighter.

I will wait 'til we get back from MN to check it out. But I do not like this. Have kept an eye on it for a few months and recently it has doubled in size. (It is about 1/2 an inch now- and no longer a potential 'freckle').

Does anyone know about this? Things to look out for?
As you may/may not know, my birthmother has skin cancer...

XOXO

Say NOTHING to Casey!

  1. could be a squamish cell or just a precancer cell or just your birthmark --does it itch is it light red or dark red or black ?

  2. Hey Anna - well it's difficult to tell from the picture, but I have quite a few raised red marks on my body - they just randomly appear. My doc told me they were nothing to worry about. Now on the other hand, my Dad who is very fair skinned gets keritosis (sp?) which is a precursor to skin cancer. They just freeze the spots off and he's good to go. Just get it checked - I am sure either way you will be ok. I've decided and it's important ;) Hugs

  3. I don't have any that big but I have a bunch of bright red spots, some raised, some not. My Dr. doesn't seem concerned about them.

  4. skin cancer starts with a growth like that, has it changed colors? the growth tends to change into a dark brownish shade, does your jeans rub in that area? I'd go to the Dr. if skin cancer runs in your family. like above said.....they will just freeze it off.

  5. GO TO THE DOCTOR NOW!! I thought mine was nothing, and found out that I had one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer. I would rather be called a hypocondriac than a corpse anyday!

  6. like everyone has said so far, just go to the doctor and have him/her take a look see. it may be nothing at all, but better to know than to worry about it.

  7. I think that what everyone else has said is exactly right: See the doctor as soon as you can. I would suggest that you consider going to a deemstologist rather than your GP, too, if you can; this seems like the kind of thing that, if you're told it's nothing and not to worry, you want to be sure the person telling you that has the expertise to be sure.

Please don't wait, and please do keep us posted.

  8. Definitely get it checked out. Better safe than sorry. I have a mole in the middle of my back that I have totake pictures of just in case it should ever change. I also have a new bump I'm watching ..I have tons of "skin" tags..so far they've all been just that and nothing more. But if they change I make the Dr aware.
    Stay warm!

  9. Get it checked. It may be nothing but would you want to be wrong?

  10. You say it has doubled in size. Does it also itch? Is it raised or flat? Does it seem to have pus in it or is it hard? It could easily be a boil, but the usually go away in less time. Well...with the exception of one that my step-dad had on his cheek bone. It was there for many years till they finally lanced it. They thought it may have been something more as well. They did the biopsy on it and all was negative. Apparently the boil liked where it was and never saw reason to be irritated with its world and never even got inflamed. Well....as long as it never got touched, that is.
Anne....It's really hard to tell from the photo whats going on with it, but......seeing that doctor sounds like a good idea to me.

  11. It looks like a shiny cranberry color, just a wee bit raised.
I suppose it would hurt if I pinched it.

I go in at 11. Wish me luck.

  13. Update.

I will be starting on Methotrexate, after I know what is going on with Casey, and/or after any surgeries she may possibly need.
I do not wish to have my immune system exposed to anything in Minnesota if it going to be compromised.

My love to all of you. And always.

  15. and so... is it psoriasis?

If so, I will plan in advance and kick in a few cents in advance.....

Various environmental factors have been suggested as aggravating to psoriasis, including stress, withdrawal of systemic corticosteroid, as well as other environmental factors, but few have shown statistical significance.

Methotrexate may cause liver damage, especially when it is taken for a long period of time. If you drink or have ever drunk large amounts of alcohol or if you have or have ever had liver disease, your doctor may tell you not to take methotrexate unless you have a life-threatening form of cancer because there is a higher risk that you will develop liver damage. The risk that you will develop liver damage may also be higher if you are elderly, obese, or have diabetes. Tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medications: acitretin (Soriatane), azathioprine (Imuran), isotretinoin (Accutane), sulfasalazine (Azulfidine), or tretinoin (Vesanoid). To decrease the risk of developing liver damage, do not drink alcohol while you are taking methotrexate.

That is my first thought because well, I know you ain't terminating a pregnancy.

    Also:

tell your doctor if you are taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) such as aspirin, choline magnesium trisalicylate (Tricosal, Trilisate), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), magnesium salicylate (Doan's), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), or salsalate. These conditions and medications may increase the risk that you will develop serious side effects of methotrexate. Your doctor will monitor you more carefully and may need to give you a lower dose of methotrexate or stop your treatment with methotrexate.

  16. No. But it is a funky name that starts with a "tl" sound. I did not write it down.
I do have a spot of psoriasis on my elbow that I have been dealing with for years and years though.
And of course I have a really funny story about this all-
When Casey and I pick up meds, we always ask if there are meds for each other while we are there.
As luck would have it, Casey had to pick up a script for herself.
She also got mine. She then called me and read the med brochure to me.
She said psoriasis, and then RA too.
Hell, if it helps with all that, it might as well be for that all too.

So Casey thinks I have the "psoriasis" treatment.
And we'll leave it at that for now.
I will be returning to my regular doctor when we get back.
    So... More later.

  22. In my own defense...
    I have no excuse.

But it *was* a really long word, probably about 6 syllables.
Too many consonants and vowels- out of their natural order-
I didn't think anyone should talk like that in the presence of a girl.

  28. Have to say that I have read and not commented simply because I had no advice to give that wasn't already discussed. I have read to keep up with what was going on with you. Even though I am not here on Multiply much anymore, I have always kept you in my thoughts and prayers. Always.
