New Hope and Change Continue

~ Will this cloture garbage end now? Do ya think???

Good Morning!

There are many of us let down by the obvious fact that America's young people thought their vote did not count yesterday.
A sickening attitude of "why should I?' that many bought into lock stock and barrel.

Uninformed and misled by many advertisements, and "news" programs - or sick to death of them, even the middle~agers were not there to stake their claim on their responsibility to vote.
The golden~agers, (possibly percentage-wise the largest segment that did vote), cast their vote accordingly based on the fearsome lies we have all heard.

The times change. "We must change with them, or..."

Whatever the reason does not really matter, (or does it)?
I have heard, and still am hearing, many concession speeches that I would rather not hear.
Be that as it may, I can now choose to *cry in my beer* OR get a move on toward 2012.

The people who think to cheer will not be cheering to learn that the largest side effect of 'winning' is the fact that all the people outed will still be receiving their pay... We have all seen the radical emails about how unfair it is that these representatives of ours continue to collect their pay after retiring... So no whining about that later.
Don't like it? It won't be ratified soon.

For the rest of us,
(ie: those of us that are still around after health care gets changed), we too will be working toward ratifying the results of 2010 by voting again in 2012.

HealthCare?

  1. First, the entire thing may be repealed.
  2. Second, it may be turned into something completely unrecognizable. Hats off to the insurance companies on this one; you have probably been granted quite a reprieve- for a time). My youngest daughter will be once again fighting for every bit of insurance she can get...
  3. The third, may just be that The Public Option be once again in the offing- But this time, let's let these Republicans think it was their idea... (Among many other things).

I believe that in his concession speech to Reid Ribble, our unseated Senator/Dr. Steve Kagen said it best.

Know that this is quoted from memory; not verbatim.  "The battle for the future has not ended. - There are still many of us still standing up for the families on Main Street, and believing that they have more value that the corporations on Wall Street."
 - The corporations have no constitutional rights, "We, the people" do.
"

Yes, Senator Kagen, "We the people" do.
I also believe that 98% of "We the people" also believe in people before profits.
Thank you Senators Kagen and Feingold

I further believe that as soon as we can all get past the cheering and the jeering we can work on what comes next.
It is all part of the rollercoaster ride of life (again not verbatim):

"
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting...
'Holy Mary Mother of God! What a Ride!!!
"

I do look forward to the next 2/20/200 political years.
As always, they promise to be nothing, if not more of the same- just with the shoe on the wrong foot.  Perhaps we need only to learn how to dress?

Additionally, I do feel bad for our President.
Unfailingly Mr. Obama has worked for "We the people"-
He has been stilted, jilted, mocked, and stymied, at almost every turn. (And yet, with enough class, elegance, and intelligence, he has never been over that proverbial barrel).
Mr Obama, your job just got a little rougher.   * "Difficult, but not impossible."

We need only to restore our Faith in our president-
As like Mr. Kristof said, click here,  "Give him a chance"

Hmmm... How about we also give "We, the people" a chance too?

"We will battle on. The first day of the next campaign cycle starts tomorrow."
Senator Steve Kagen

My many personal and sincere thanks to our Senators Feingold and Kagen for representing Wisconsin in the most honorable of manner for so many years.

XOXO

  2. Clearly you and I see things in entirely different views. Obama care needs to be repealed; remember that what you give to one, you have to take from another. When the government takes it is not charity, it is thievery and Obama care is thievery on a grand, socialist scale. But I encourage you and yours to return to the polls in 2012 and once again attempt to take the nation from the people...it almost worked for you in 2008.

  3. True story:

I was in my gym last night and while on the elliptical I chatted with the man on the next machine. He was jubilant over how the voting was going and assumed I had the same opinions and views he did. He asked me what I did for a living and I told him I work for a large hospital group. He told me of his brother who was recently in an accident, is unemployed and has no insurance. He received appropriate medical care. He left the hospital without paying anything and without applying for medicaid and shouted to the clerk that obamacare should pay for his medical care. He is now being pursued by debt collectors. He asked what his brother should do. I told him his brother should man up and pay his bills for the medical care. I also told him that if he had behaved reasonably and had cooperated instead of being a jerk, the hospital would likely have done the paperwork for him for medicaid but it's too late now. Medicaid has been around a LOT longer than Obama - the President has nothing to do with this situation. Lots of things that Obama has been blamed for is not even remotely related to him or his policies.

Our medical benefits for next year are being discussed now at my work. Many people are delighted they can cover their 20-something kids on their policies. When I point out this did not result from the generosity of the employer, but from changed legislation spearheaded by Obama, I get blank looks. BTW, this is NOT taxpayer funded medical care. The parents and the employer pay the premiums.

  4. Thank-you Annie.. for your thoughtful and heartfelt blog. I cannot help but contrast it with the comment above. Your blog encouraged me and offered information. 'leebobus' is name-calling and attacking. I hope all of us can learn from your example that 'gentlemanly' debate and researched information is a better foundation for discussion than hyperbole and sniping.

  6. I for one am very disappointed at the outcome of these elections, President Obama was voted in by the people who wanted health care for all, who wanted to get our economic woes into check. and to give up on that vision only two years in is just wrong, It took the Republicans lead by Bush eight years to get America into this mess, The Bush administration had more jobs lost , President Obama gained jobs for Americans. Gosh I just wish people would have done their homework
    xoxoxoxoxoxo
Of course like you Annie I will never give up.

  7. Sadly, people don't do the homework. They just react to sound bytes.

  9. Sorry Lee;
You speak as though you have A) always had insurance, or B) never faced losing someone you care about to a chronic disease.

I was talking about healthcare as "life" itself.
Care to expand, and perhaps explain how this bill 'takes' that from anyone?

No worries as to whether I will return to the polls, since I have already made that unmistakeably and abundantly clear above.

    PS
Proclaiming "I'm joking" (after writing something so heinously prejudicial/ignorant on your top page), is akin to knocking a little kids teeth out on a playground and crying "I didn't mean it" when you get caught.
Please look for your invitation from Tess or Doubtfire.

  10. I have also heard that people are upset about 'having' to cover their children.
    Blah.
Either way you are correct, at the very least, these young adults are not taking from the taxpayers.
(Some of those people did want it both ways). duh...

The story of the injured brother proves that there are too many, even if it's only one story, that have not understood health care for what it was originally meant to be. They took the easy way out, blaming the rhetoric, and believing the lies.
In my little opinion that is not a desirable way to go through life.
Dependent upon how recent this happened will say whether or not it is too late for him to apply?
Then again perhaps the laws are very different in Texas- (As you have learned, the people sure are).

Just had to highlight the above words.
Too bad the same cannot be said in truth about his predecessor.

Again I was only stating fact. Thank you for seeing that. But know that this is not a 'new leaf' for me.
Where I am attacked I will continue to reply in kind. Hyperbole is one thing- name calling will wait 'til I am at my wits end.
Pa taught me not to take too much on the chin and look the other way, no matter how fast my head spun...

I went to the leebob's homepage. I was not impressed by the lack of grit that I saw there.
I have yet to see a fearless educated site on Multiply where facts are stated and linked to a reliable source from the opposing viewpoint.

I, two, am highly disappointed, but we have to just get past the shock, regroup and return to our knowledge that there is power in knowing the truth.

You also are to be highly praised for all of your work in getting this vote going, and keeping that momentum high.

  17. I am a Canadian, but I am really impressed with your President. I like him by himself and I just love
him with his family. He has not been treated well and has not been given a chance. He was put down
before he could stand up and do anything. I told my hubby today if i had been him last night, i would
of packed my bags and my family and ran away!!!! lol He is a good man who wants to do right by
the people and because he can`t wave a magic wand and do it right now, they have thrown him away
in favour of a "Tea Party" who think they can do it all in a day!!! When they can't they will most likely
blame the president. Well that is my two Canadian cents!!! :) Wish Mr. Obama was my Prime Minister.

    ReplyDelete
  18. My Dear Sweet Bev;
I love your Canadian two cents- To me they are worth millions!
I haven't heard anything different from any other Canadiens either
If only you could all vote here!

Mr Obama is a wonderful man! I applaud him at almost every turn.
And you are right- But maybe your opinion will work both ways- See they have cried that he has done nothing- And if "they" can't get 'er done overnight, I am wondering what the fallout will be then?

  19. Hi Mommy,

Greg announced the results to me last night and we both were quite disappointed that the majority of the population seem to either believe the lies that are being spread around or didn't think that their vote counted... Hmmm... I think both groups need a strong restructuring of their views, and a correction of the lies needs to be made.

I also believe the truth will always come out. I think that those people who say they'll change and try to overwrite the Healthcare reform, among other things, will notice that it doesn't occur overnight and they might even give up as has been their party's way of doing things when the going gets tough. (Either that or blame it all on someone else...)

I won't give up, EVER! I will continue to fight for the compassionate representation that we had in office. (I bet the newest Mr. Ribble won't respond to any of the hand-written letters he receives saying he's too busy or too overwhelmed or.... Whereas both Senators Kagen and Feingold made sure to respond to every constituent that wrote to them...)

I will continue to battle for healthcare for every American... This has become one of the greatest priorities and the greatest influence for my own votes as I'm constantly in a battle for my own health. I do not believe that anyone should ever have to go through the mistreatment I went through when I didn't have insurance and the hospitals hardly took one look at me before trying to rush me out the doors, even when I was at my worst and my organs were shutting down. It was awful to know that I couldn't even get help from the people who were in the best position to help me and I felt like they didn't care if I lived or if I died as long as they didn't have to pay for anything...

I am now insured, after battling to get that insurance. After going through hell before someone finally helped. However, I will never forget being in that position of not having it, nor am I stupid enough to believe that it will never happen to me or someone I love. Just because I have it now, doesn't mean it can't be taken away. I will continue to fight so that others who are in my position will never have to worry about insurance. (It should be a RIGHT to have Healthcare, not a luxury available only for the rich or the healthy...)

Yes we have lost the battle this time... But with our wonderful Mr. Obama at the wheel, and those who are undoubtedly on his side and ours, we will win the war...... We just have to keep faith and hope alive!

Thank you for posting such a truthful and heartfelt post!!! Thank you also for battling for me and with me over the years! It's truly a blessing to have someone as strong, caring and never-quitting as you on my side!!!

    Love you MUCH MUCH!
    ~Casey

  20. Clearly, your view, is askew.

Who pays for health (& psychological) care for our veterans? That's of course if they get any.
Who pays for the severely disabled, (yes, I know, they spend their cheques on booze & drugs & all of that). Who pays for our disintegrating infrastructure? For highway & bridge maintenance & repair? I could go on, but I won't. YOU do.

Let's just let the whole country collapse, except for the corporations & the filthy rich. Um. That was redundant. I'll bet you aren't rich; like many others, you feel some sort of lift in your self esteem by associating yourself with Republicans.

"...once again attempt to take the nation from the people...it almost worked for you in 2008."
The Republican mantra! If I see it or hear it one more time, I'm going to puke. "Give the country back to the people!" they squawk. Just like the land of milk & honey during GWB's two terms...the first illegal, but what the heck, the Supreme Court can be bought, & he's a war criminal.

It's SICK that people like you exist.

  26. :-( What more can an outsider have to say,

Politics to some people it seems is about the O Mighty Dollar for themselves but involves little or no sense. (L.W.D.)

Health Care is needed and everyone should be entitled to it; be they rich, poor or in-between.
I just love quotes Anna and these are two below ( altered a bit ) that people should remember for the next two years.

"The moral test of government and a society is how it treats those who are aged those in the shadows of life, the sick, the needy and the handicapped."

A society that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.

One day you ( the reader ) may be sick and in need of help, I doubt very much that you would like to be turned away when that time comes.

Anna would a return postal vote system work in the USA ? Then people need not worry about getting off of their A$$e$ to go to polling booths ? Just asking is all.

  30. I'm with you, very disappointed. I too have a child with a pre existing condition & when he is of age if the Obama care gets thrown out & his job doesn't provide insurance I'm not sure what will happen. It's very scary!

    True story here:
My sis told me a lady a while back came into her work complaining about the Obama Heathcare & my sister said something to her about how she was for it because her job doesn't have benefits & she can't afford to get it privately. The lady informed her that "she didn't plan well enough". My sister bit her tongue & dropped the subject.
Fast forward a few months later this same lady came in & was complaining about how her job had cut back benefits, including insurance. My sister just smiled at her & said "I guess you didn't plan well enough huh?". lmao!!! Some people are just so ignorant.

So nice to have you back!!!
    How is David?

How unchristian of me would it be to say "too bad so sad" to that lady...
And then follow it up with a bit of *real* true information on it all?

How very tragic that this is how people have to learn!
Don't believe for one minute that this is an isolated case though- These people will be screaming "Public Option" so fast Mr. Obama will not know what happened.
    We can hope...

  32. Good to be back. David is doing very well, thanks for asking.
It is tragic they have to learn that way. Some people that have never experienced what we have & many others with not being able to get insurance just don't understand. They think because they "planned" well that nothing bad can happen to make their plan go up in smoke. It's unfortunate people wont put themselves in others shoes & just want to judge them instead. That's okay, in the end they will have to deal with a higher power for how they treat their fellow human beings.
Casey said it perfect...... EVERYONE deserves healthcare, no matter how much $$$ you have or your heath issues.

  33. Anne -- In the six months leading up to Election Day, supporters like you reached out to more than 80 million voters on phone lines and doorsteps across the country -- making the difference in dozens of key races. And -- one conversation at a time -- the commitments to vote that you secured helped grow this movement. That kind of work transcends the results of a single election. Thank you. Organizing for America started with you -- your voices, your ideas, and your feet on the ground. And from the beginning, your vision for the future has propelled our work to move this country forward. From historic health insurance reform to the strongest consumer protections ever put in place, we have begun to make the change we envisioned a reality. But we still have so much left to accomplish together. That's why now, with November's elections behind us and a new year on the horizon, we're planning our next steps. We can't do that without hearing from the people who brought us here -- supporters like you. We've put together a short survey to make sure we capture everyone's ideas. In the coming weeks, we'll report back with the results -- and they'll go straight into the President's hands, hand-delivered by OFA volunteers in early December. Please take a minute to take this survey and share your thoughts about the future of this movement. We've always known that big change doesn't begin with a top-down mandate -- it begins at the grassroots. It begins with the kind of ideas that inspire us all to get out and do the real work of organizing -- knocking on doors, making calls, and pitching in what we can to build support in our communities. Your voice built and sustaine
