[My] Life in Wisconsin

Fookin' Computersaurus...

Grrrrrrr.......................  (nuff said).

Would anyone tell me what problems I may have going from this "thing" to a Mac?

What are the differences?
What are the advantages?
The disadvantages?
Will I like it more?

Is it true that old dogs can learn new tricks?

I shall be back later.

Have a "wunnaful" Wednesday.
Love to all.

XOXO
Me

  2. Really the only difference is the operating system it uses. You won't have any problems if you change over. Fewer viruses written for Mac, higher cost than a PC....

  6. beg to differ we have much less if any tech or virus problems and in the daily operating it is much easier than most pc's my humble opinion mac lover lol

  7. I was replying to the number of programs available....for the everyday user who surfs the net, uses email, etc., the fewer software programs available is insignificant.

  10. My kids gave me a MAC mini for christmas about three years ago now I think and I absolutely love it. I highly recommend the MAC. I had a gateway before and it seemed liked windows had more glitches - at least back then.

  11. I have no idea! Good Luck with it all! It does seem that you do need a new computer!

  12. oh. Maybe it was YOU....

Something someone sent me something infected mail my mailbox. I don't open those jokes and things but sometimes it is difficult to tell what is a joke and what is real mail. Anyway, something someone sent me got me. It spread from my mail to my pc and from there to my backup hard drive. It was really difficult to track down and get rid of.

Just in case, go here and run this program. http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html

It will download a small file to your pc then run. It does not need you to shut off nor will it damage your current antivirus program. It may find and delete files in quarantine and give you a message if it can't delete them but if your antivirus already has them it is fine.

Save the log file at the end in case you have questions.

in your case, call Greg if you get stuck.... well, you could call me too....

  13. asking the wrong person here! lol...I don't know anything about MAC's either

  14. why would you do that !? lol I really don't know except that Macs get less viruses because they are less popular . The people who waste their lives building Worms and Viruses like to do the most damage they can and there for build them for Windows and Windows products more often . It's the secret of FireFox too . Less popular Less desirable target but Less desirable product ?. I have heard newbies asking for help with picture issues but many that have them swear by them .

  15. BS said with a smile
it never ever gives you picture issues if you push the right button--lol

  19. HAHAHA!
(And here I sit, not sure whether I should laugh or cry).
I chose laughter- It always works best.

I *will* push the wrong button. Of that I am sure.

Call Greg? If I call him one more time he will punch me. I swear.
The Mac thing is ALL his idea. I would be getting one of his. (He is in the process of making it all brand new for me).

I shall be afraid of it. (And after a few buttons are pushed, it shall be afraid of me too). hehehe

Oh, and by the way, if I sent Pea anything infected, it is Greg's fault (somehow). He has been on this computer almost 24/7.
By my own request he has checked, and rechecked, and thrice checked, that there are NO viruses or bugs anywhere.
In other words, Pea, it was not me. hehehe

  20. One major difference with a Mac.
You can see what you do.
Yes you can do that on a PC too, before the invited guests of Microsoft take over.
Block out all those who want to control it and you have problems with the PC.
Only Apple and I own my Mac.
The World and his wife owns my PC Laptop.
(Bought to use as a visual care aid from room to room)
I have had Macs for years starting with System 7
Atari was my favourite for music before the Mac

  21. Have you safe booted it?
First step before playing put and take with the add ons

  22. Thanks Bill.
I don't have the new one yet.
As for this one, Greg is really trying to take care of it all.

  23. I have had only one major virus and it caused the PC to just restart itself and eventually claim Windows was missing a file . I had some tools on the PC and was able to fight it off for 6weeks but I couldn't find the part of the virus that allowed it to reproduce itself . The tech missed it once and then pulled the plug inside saying it was in the Bios and we did a re-install and I ended up with the PC like it was when I bought it . Lost 3 years worth of pics and music :( I use Avast free version anti-virus that has caught everything so far trying to get in and I do a lot of risky things like music files and such .

  24. Good to know it wasn't you....

    I trust Greg.

    OOPS! That sounded bad.

I meant I trusted Greg with the fact that he has checked for viral nasties. I was pretty sure it came from The Man anyway. He is complaining of things with his PC that sound like viruses.... the guy who works for him and shares the server has two pcs down... so yeah.

  25. We may never know either thing lol . My virus appeared to be a bad hard drive and my tech changed it at his shop and re-installed Windows but a week later it was restarting on its own again and he said it was in the Bios so I guess it had RootKit ability to live through several re-installs by me and a pro until the internal battery was pulled killing the entire PC (which is what people claim a re-install does ) He reasoned it was there based on actions we took . I got a refund / credit on the new hard drive so the whole thing cost 70$ on a PC that was 3 years old cost 500$ new . The truth be known even the techs don't know all . The PC is a mysterious thing of a whatcha call it .

which 7-11 did you go too ? because I was at the other one ! and no one showed ! lmao

  26. The important sounding name of Bios is nothing more than a few spaces on your hard disc donated to the startup essentials. Sometimes known as Boot Blocks.
While it is difficult to get into them it is not impossible and a good place to hide a virus.
A new hard disk already contains virus free Boot Blocks.
A flat or or removed battery will not remove the Boot Block data.
There is one way to mess up the Boot Block data.
Make the virus take first position after start up before the system loads.
Quote--The PC is a mysterious thing of a whatcha call it .
So is an Abacus with its beads one end or the other.
They both work on the same principle. lol
They get to be complicated by their multi purpose use.
    Just spotted something.
No need to remove the battery that powers clock and a few more things.
The info is held in a separate RAM known a P. Ram
There should be certain keys to hold down on startup know as--Zapping the Ram.

  27. awe I am sorry shall we start over lets see the closest 7-11 would be over sea the straight on for 8hrs. then down into the tenderloin and there on the right I will be waiting lol

  28. No
These are provided free with the computer up to this year, now one of these has been removed.
The reason for there not being as many is simple. They cannot better the free ones.
Word, ect is no better than Apple Works and I have tried them all.
Most computer users only use a tenth of the inboard attributes anyway, hence the popularity of the i Pad.
It is a better system because it was built up from the Atari after being bought from that company. The two men responsible for Apple worked for Atari before it shut down.
Their system is clean and fast and its security controls many and simple.
It is simply the best around.
    Just that and nothing else.
