[My] Life in Wisconsin

Allergic to Snow?

My left hand...
Am watching it to see what happens now.

Good Morning All;

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that Wisconsin is closed.

I shoveled and plowed last night to get rid of at least the top layer of everything. And of course by this morning you cannot even tell. Still, it will help lessen what I have to do today, or maybe tomorrow; (not too sure I want to be outside for any length of time today).
Wind Chill Warnings are out, but maybe those will improve too.

.

Before this all hit yesterday, I went into town to get a few supplies.
First a stop at Petco for the pups here.
A few bags of dogfood; (with my apologies to my birds, I forgot their seed feed)...

Miss Punk had never seen parakeets before...

.

...and was very happy just to watch them for a long time.

.

But the storm was coming and we had to move on.

Next stop, WalMart.
Now, I don't know how you kids are when you go to Wally World, but I always have to buy a little something for myself when I'm there.
(Take yesterday, I bought some toilet paper, and some detergent; a few spices, and more Safe~T~Step for outside the door).
hehehe

Miss Punk had to stay in the car while I was doing that shopping. After 10 minutes in the store, people were coming in soaking wet! No biggie, it was only rain. A mad dash around the store to get everything on my list, and I was going to be headed for home soon, beating the snow and ice!

But of course it didn't work out that way.
Coming outside, it was no longer raining, but dropping little marbles from the skies.
(I could have been killed for cryin' out loud)!!

.

Well CRAP, this is not rain.
AND, it has frozen on my windows just like that!
The temps had dropped THAT fast.
(Punk was NOT amused by the sound that made either).

.

And as I pulled out of the space I was in, this is what I saw...

.

Ruh~Roh...
OK, so I have driven in winter before.
So I should be able to drive on little frozen marbles.
hehehe
Just really SLOW going.

.

Stop at Shell.
Fill the gas tank to the top, add a bottle of Heet.
Fill the Cub Cadets gas can, (add ½ bottle of Heet).
Stop at CVS.
Pick up a prescription.
And finally head'r home.

The roads quickly went from 'bad'...

.

.

...to 'worse'...

.

This is the abandoned road in front of my place...
The side of the road being all ice.
(The road was not much better either).
No plows.
No salt.
The rain too quickly freezing on the roadways, and then a layer of snow.

.

In one county last night, Green Lake (I think), not too far away, the police had said all roads were impassable. They had pulled the snowplows off the road when the wind kicked up because the snowplow drivers could not see where they were going.

And, as stated above, no salt.
The salt does not work when it is so bitter cold; and they mix a bit with sand around the intersections. People, (those either brave/stupid enough to face these elements) either slow down appropriately early at the intersections, or simply hit the ditch.
Hmmm... I am wondering if that gal that had put her car in the ditch here now has proper winter stuff in her car???

I heard one plow go through here about an hour and a half ago, and ½ an hour later to come back through too. So at least the road has been plowed. A bit.

But we were home in one piece, and after unloading the acr and getting it in the garage, it was time to get outside and clear the doorways and the concrete. I did the driveways and the kennel too.

.

(Milly hates when I plow it out).
AND, I had to argue with her to get her inside last night too.
This morning though, she was in no hurry to get out!
hehehe

.

With all the snow blowing around I inhaled so many flakes that I swear I almost drowned!

.

OK. So it's pretty.
And that's all I'm going to say about that.

.

Having the TV on all morning, it seems that everything is closed. Nothing delayed either. And it's not only in NE Wisconsin, but all over the state.

I would like to go to sleep til Spring if you don't mind.

Sadly, I think Caseys fish will be asleep a LOT longer than that.

.

And I am NOT about to be checking for a pulse or doing any CPR.
Sorry, "Squishy" RIP
Sorry, Casey...

.

Oh, and about my hand. I got bit by something in the woods the other day.
I have NO idea what 'got' me either. I did pick up some Benadryl. Will take it if the swelling doesn't go down...
Now, WHERE THE HECK DO BUGS COME FROM IN THE WINTER????
(
I'll bet one of them bit Squishy too)!

Be Safe today, no matter where you are; especially all of you who are somehow fighting this ridiculous winter!

Love to all!

XOXO
Anne

  1. I hate ice, I hate hail, I hate high winds. Don't mind snow...as long as I don't lose power and have plenty of food.

Man the weather changed fast while you were in Wally World. Cute pic of Punk and the parakeets; could've sworn I saw a relative of the one I had way back when.

Laughing about the picture of the falling snow. Was thinking, now are those snow flakes or are they orbs?

    Love your pictures.

Take care of the hand, keep the four-legged creatures indoors, hold services for Squishy...stay safe and warm.

Oh and about that dumb gal...who knows?

    hugs

  2. Anna....spiders dont seem to mind the cold. At least not the spiders I have dealt with. Well...they aren't particularly fond of the cold but that is a long walk from the woods to your house which is probably where it was headed when you found whatever critter that was that gotcha.

I know you are a pro at driving on all that bad stuff, but do take extra caution. That ice is so unpredictable. I'll take plain snow over ice any old day.

We have been having high winds here. Blowing in all that cold air from the North. Power went off last night twice. The second time it was off for a little over an hour. Stayed on the rest of the night and then went off and on off and on for no less than a dozen times this morning. I was in bed "trying" to sleep but when the power would go off, all the things that were running came to a screeching halt! Then it would come back on with everything that had settings on them blinking, blinking, blinking! I got up and fixed the time on the clock about 8 times. The other times I just turned away from it to avoid the blinking. I am still so very sleepy even now. If it isn't my bladder waking me from peaceful slumber it will ALWAYS be something else! When I die, I intend to leave my bladder behind and they better not have blinking alarm clocks in Heaven! (not that sleep will be needed anymore there. You know what I mean.) LOL!
