  2. How awful this has happened to Casey. Good for you all going to the news with it. Hopefully it will work. Stuff like this just really gets my blood boiling. Please keep us posted.

  3. Will do Sweetie!

One would THINK that a good student (gradewise) would be a student that UW would WANT to keep around...
But 'one' would sadly be very wrong to think that...

  4. What she has isn't contagious right? So what's their problem? I don't get it, why can't she come back?

  5. I am going to borrow from another blog that I wrote last August:
(Click on UWGB or "College Problems" in my tags)...

"For the last two semesters, Casey has been told she must withdraw because of her surgeries, and for missing classes etc...

She wrote to EACH and EVERY one of her professors while she was hospitalized, stating what was going on, and asking that they send her make up work etc...

...Only ONE of those teachers replied that he would get her through it all. She heard back NOTHING at all from the rest of them!

Not a word that is, until she was asked by the dean of students to withdraw.

Again, she then did as she was asked.

A few weeks ago, she received a letter from the financial department stating that unless she finished 75% of her classes that she would NEVER be able to receive financial aid again.

This is pure unadulterated BS in my book.

First she is steamrolled into withdrawing because the teachers don't give a crap.

    Then this???

So we went to UWGB to try to straighten this mess out. Casey so upset that she brought an entire hospital bag full of her meds, and her bills. (Her last surgery costing $48,000 PLUS)! The Octreotide injection alone (for which she got a ten day supply) was almost $500.00. And a zillion other prescriptions that also add up too fast to keep up with... And so, yesterday, she was ready to dump about 10 prescriptions on the deans desk...

We had stopped at the registrars office first. The NICE guy there, had walked us straight over to the Dean of students.

While we talked to the dean, Mr. Morris took it upon himself to bring Caseys letter to the financial aid office... (They WILL be expecting a call from Casey or myself today)...
So the question now is, can Casey make it through an entire semester without any hospitalizations?

NO ONE can guarantee that. So then, is there some type of disability/handicap status that she would qualify for an "excused" absense for her teachers?

The dean did tell us that if she was blind, or whatever, that then she would qualify for all of that. (No, she is NOT ready to poke herself in the eye with a sharp stick).

And she is mad! I am too.

    So lets see...

The dean has blamed the federal goverment.

He also said he would make no concessions in this respect.

He also blamed the financial aid office.

I did ask him whom we should talk to that wouldn't pass the buck to someone else. (Not too surprising, he remained clueless).

We need ONE person to get behind Casey. AND to stay there until she has completed all of her credits."

And no Sweetie, I have never heard of chronic pancreatitis being contagious!
    hehehe

  6. I too would think there is some program in place for a situation like this. I know with David's problems if he starts to miss to much school he is covered because of his medical condition. There is paperwork that has to be done but it is law that all schools provide it I thought, althought I'm not sure on colleges. I think different states call them different things. I'm wondering if she doesn't qualify because she wasn't born with this, althought that shouldn't matter. Medical is medical and can't be helped. Keep on fighting for your rights, this is wrong in so many ways!!

  9. What a shame this is happening - I hope that by getting the media involved & getting Casey's plight "televised" - it will come to the attention of someone who is in the position & willing to help her. You are in my prayers.

  10. I just noticed while I watched a re-run of the televised video that - it looks like the college has a banner with a picture of a Phoenix & under that is a what I assume is the good ole' college motto - "Connecting learning to life".
Hhhhhhhmmmmm........Me thinks that UWGB either has a short circuit or is experiencing a power failure............ because THEY REALLY MESSED UP ON THIS ONE !!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Anne....start sending all those hospital bills and denials for school and apartments over to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue where the big guy lives. Our country does not treat it's own citizens like it should. Too many (me included) have to do without medical care because of the lack of insurance. I once had a breathing problem and had to wait till the Tax return money came in to go see one of those doctors at the walk in clinic. When they saw I had no insurance they only did the minimal treatment for me. They took one ex-ray and then told me I had a lung infection and gave me an RX for an antibiotic. I never felt that was the problem. But the point is, if I had insurance they would have done a FULL work up to see what the problem was. They would have done tests out the wazoo! A long time ago, I once worked for a doctor for 2 1/2 years. I know how they are. And Hospitals these days are even worse. Whatever happened to providing treatment for free at County hospitals? Do those even still exist? I know they don't where I live.

  12. I would like to add that on the interview, UWGB said they have never demanded anyone to withdraw.

As it was put to us, it was either withdraw of face failure for not being to class. Then expulsion.

I need to reiterate how great her grades were. And not only in college, but for her entire school career. Her grades NEVER faltered, even back at UWRF when ALL of her profs stood behind her and she missed even MORE school that first semester there.

Like I said, only ONE of her profs at UWGB wrote her back. The others were not required to.
And like the dean said, "it is not in their contracts..."

    Sad, aint it???

My thanks to all who watch and comment here
And for your love and prayers and insight too.

    XOXO
    Anne

  13. Anna I hope this report changes everything in her favor hopefully this will serve as a sounding board for others that maybe having the same problems she is beautiful too just like her mama and strong. Have you written legislator's and State Representatives?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Have you contacted your state legislator? And your US House Representative? With the Dean blaming the federal government, perhaps a bit of special legislation? I'd go there before 1600. No one should have to fight in this manner for an education! You both remain in our prayers.
