[My] Life in Wisconsin

Fuh-Reezin' in Minnesota

Good Morning Everyone;
If you have read the comment I left for you in my prior blog, (or Casey's newest blog), you know that we arrived safe and sound with Jesus at the wheel.
It was that crappy, those last 90 miles.  Temps went from 44 to 16 in a matter of minutes; and when the front came through, wouldn't you know we were on this big bridge- and what wind!

But we are here. Thanking God that (even though I whined about it), my car was all fixed prior to leaving.  I started it last night; letting it run for about 20 minutes before taking it twice around the block. But it started, and that is all that matters.

It is currently 9 degrees BELOW ZERO. (Suffice to say I don't like it).
The windchill factor is is the minus 30's.

And no, we are not responsible for bringing it with us.  I firmly believe Canada hates me.

Having brought Punk out earlier, she poo'ed and pee'd just great- We weren't outside but two minutes and she shook her paws when we got back inside. Too cold for man or beast.

As most of you know by now, I am Native.
Knowing this, and knowing how so many lived (and died), 'way back when, it amazes me that anyone survived; pelts or not. A much deeper respect goes through me as I dress ever so warmly for a minute or two outside in this dangerous weather.

We are not alone- Many of you will be living through ice storms today. May God keep you all warm and safe.

I can't believe how far south that freezing rain might go...

Casey's pre~surgical appointment is rescheduled for tomorrow. And of course her surgery is on Thursday.

When we got to the hotel late on Sunday evening, we were met by a man whose own TP/AIT Transplant surgery was yesterday. He came to our room to visit for a while (I promptly fell asleep on him). But Casey and he had much to talk about and to share.
His surgery was quite successful, his brother calling Casey yesterday to update her- AND he wasn't even sent to ICU afterward. (I am thinking this is because everything went so very well)!

Kelli has just called- It is 5 below at home, (this because maybe Canada isn't sure where I am exactly)?
Miss Milly is warm and 'wunnaful'. And Mr Miller is sad because he can't play at my house. Kelli is at work safe and sound too.
I'm just happy that all is secure.

Michelle wrote to say hello this morning too- Her own horses probably freezing their manes off. Kelli had told me that Breeze's eyelashes were full of ice! (Bad enough when mascara clumps, I can only imagine what ice does).

As for me, my joints are aching from the cold. Yes, we do have the heat on in the room- Just that once I am cold, I am very cold throughout, and it takes a while to warm up.

I'd better close for now- have a load of laundry to do. The laundry is on the 6th floor. and a nice warm room!  Looking forward to that!

Love to all.

XOXO
Anne

  2. So far so good Sweetie!

I worry more about being gone today. But knowing that Miss Milly is fine, and that all of my water is running fine is a very good thing.

I would be worried about Casey, bt she's still asleep!

Tomorrow is the testing to make sure she can go through with Thursday, and yes, maybe that should be of the utmost concern

  4. I'm sure Canada doesn't hate you, even though those arctic blasts seem to be following and searching for you!

It was great that Casey got to speak to someone going through the same procedure as she is, and that he came through the surgery so well. I'm sure that helped settle Casey's nerves just a little.

Doing laundry without having to worry about pipes freezing, and in a nice warm room to do it in will be nice for you.

What will you do with Punk while you're at the hospital? It's too cold to leave her in the car, will she stay in the hotel room?

Let's see... you've been gone one day, I guess that means Sputty has taken over the house - LOL!

Turn up the heat and stay warm - it's not your electric bill!

I hope Casey's tests go well tomorrow. 2 days and counting.

Hugs for both of you (and Punk too).

  5. Am sorry that it's SO FREAKIN' COLD there! Sounds to me as though Canada is stalking you if it's negative temps at home too... Did you send the frigid temps west? We're lucky to get past 30 (yeah, I know, not near as cold as you) and we're supposed to get 3-6 more inches of *S* tomorrow!

Try not to worry too much about home (I know that is easier said than done). Just know that with Kelli and other neighbors watching out for the house everything will be fine. I am quite sure that if something did happen you would be called and let known what was going on...

I agree with RT. Turn the heat up, it's not your bill. Y'all can be as toasty as you need to be!

Poor Punkie! I bet she is wishing she had some boots to wear outside!

I think it's great that Casey got to talk to someone who has went through exactly what she will be going through... That surely had to calm her nerves a bit... If he came through it well and didn't have to go to ICU, then I will bet ya that Casey does even better!

Sending ya's love filled thoughts and warm hugs!

  6. Glad to hear that things are good ,except the weather
Must be nice to do laundry and not have to worry about frozen things huh?

  7. Sweet RT!
I just can't stand to know that it is colder where(ever) I am than at the North Pole!
    That's NUTS!

We haven't heard back from his brother yet- Am hoping he is still doing well.
(It was even a relief to me to see someone with that same "so done with this sh*t" look on their face).

Punk stays here while we go.
All they wanted was a cell phone to get hold of me if she starts to cry or bark.
She only does this when the maid is out there, or if someone is talking right outside the door. Then we get a little warning, a "boof" of sorts. Or they do? hehehe

I have to run to the Post Office... And Mother Nature has seen fit to dump more snow upon us while I wasn't looking.
    damn
    damn
    Double damn.

Sputnik has surely taken over the house. And as long as he doesn't see fit to eat Miss Millys food, he will happily live through it all.

The heat is turned up- No getting around that one as Casey is now in the shower. hehehe

    Hugs right backatcha!

  8. I woke up this morning thinking it was already Wednesday and tried to meditate a little for Casey. My sinus headache seemed to quickly be turning into a migraine and for some reason my thoughts were more of you. I wonder why? LOL!

It as at least comforting to know that other fella came through his surgery so well. I pray hers will be just as successful.

Glad you made it there safely on those icy roads. Your stress level must be out of the roof already! At least you will have time to warm up, calm down and settle in a bit before Thursday morning.

I do hope you wore your long johns!

    Hugs to all! Peachie

  9. Sweet SlurkieBaby!
I do worry- Mostly because Miss Kelli is so damned overworked to begin with - Then I throw Sputty and Milly and pipes and drains at her too.

And honestly, even if my house burns down, I do not want to know about it. Lord knows that if it burns down there is nothing I can do about it whether I am here or there. And Casey is more important anyway.

Not sure about the dog boots thing- Some will wear them and some won't. My sister put some on Buddy and he wouldn't wear them. I have NO idea what Punk would do. (I would laugh though).

Love the love~filled thoughts and hugs-
    Right backatcha too!

This weather is about as far from "nice" as anyone can get.

Oh it was SO nice up doing that load of wash today-
And now it is getting toasty in here too.
We always crack the window just a bit for fresh air, but had to close it for her shower.

Time (almost) to go try to start the car again...

God knows that your heart is always in the right place, whether it is on the right day or not!

I am sad to say that the long johns are at home- right along with my snowmobile boots.
I do have a pair of boots, but need mukluks in this- And they have to go all the way up to my knees too.

    "STRESS"?
    What is "STRESS"?
Is this something I should know about?

I shall go up on the roof and see if it's there...

I am glad you made it safe and sound. I will be sending lots of prayers your way. Give Casey my love. Please don't forget to give us an address I already have a couple of cards to send.

  20. How wonderful is it that you guys met someone dealing and going through the same thing! Now Im wondering if there is a support group for just these folks...?????

So very glad to hear that all is well on your home front.. I would be so very worried about Miss Milly and the Sputnik.. But I know you have someone there to take good care of all.

Believe it or not.. the freezing rain has made it all the way here to SE Texas.. driving to work this morning was treacherous.. not as bad as what you are dealing with or had to drive through ..but these redneck southerners have no clue how to slow down or go over a bridge.. This morning there were no less than 12 pileups being reported on the news and that doesnt even count the ones that just slid off the road or the minor little fender benders that were going on. The good news is.. its supposed to be back into the 70s this weekend.

Wishing both of you a wonderful Wednesday!

    Luv to both of you!

  21. Thank you dear. One question is the % sign supposed to be in the address? When you get a room number for Casey at the hospital and you are rested can you give me the address there too? Make sure you get some rest. You are wonderful!
I agree with morysa above about the driving. I think you would get a kick out of watching people freak out and watching them try to drive here. We are so not used to the snow and ice. Schools have already been canceled for tomorrow. They were canceled this morning.
Be careful and know that my thoughts are with you both. Lots of love to you both.XOXOXOXO

But having been born and raised in Wisconsin, you do remember how UN'wunnaful' winter can be at times too.

I am convinced that Canada hates me- The last forecast I saw on TV when I left Green Bay was this huge mass of cold air descending on us.
    But it was 44 degrees!
Then to get here, flip the weather on at one point, and that mass had gotten even bigger and freezier.
Am thinking by now you have been given your own dose of that ice storm above.

    So far so good.
And I don't think I ever thanked you for your beautiful prayers you'd sent my way- To let you know how appreciated they all were.
I do so now, although belatedly

You really made me laugh when I read about being warm and doing your business.
    So true!
    So VERY true!!!

When we went outside last night, Casey, Punk, and I, all played in it. (What the heck and why not it was 2 above zero, and NO wind so it wasn't bad). Punk tried to find another snowball and honestly she would have dug a hole if we would have let her! Too funny.

  29. Just plain nasty out there on the way here Sweetie!

We were to get a dusting yesterday as the temps went above zero.
That dusting turned into the better part of 3 or 4 inches.

  31. Sweet Beep;
I am laughing at your new use of the term 'redneck'
    hehehe

I have had the pleasure of driving through KY and TN and seeing how people drive in the snow and ice. My Little Lawrences birthday is on Feb 17th and every now and then I get to be down there close to then. One year, there had been a foot of snow the day before- Maybe 2 days, but there were so many accidents that we could see the 'remains' of- and still plenty of cars left in the ditches too!

We actually 'met' this man through a pancreas support group- So yes, there are groups out there. I have since cut ties- But still peek in too from time to time with this group- (The gal that runs it has too big of a god~image of herself).
Rick has gone through some major hurdles to get his own surgery done- Mostly of the insurance variety- (More god complex's with those companies, so don't get me started). Suffice to say that even though we had one bad day dealing with Caseys stuff, that was nothing compared to 6 months of what he dealt with.

    Here is his site. http://mcrick.multiply.com/
He joined just a few days ago- No blogs, but wanted to keep informed of Casey as well.

Now as far as the home front goes.
Kelli spends her time after the horses playing with Milly and Mr Miller too. She is well loved and well taken care of too. hehehe So is Miss Milly?

    You enjoy those 70's.
    Jst no white Christmas then?
Wouldn't it be neat to at least have had your snowfall right on Christmas?

We love you both too you know.

Maybe after her appt I can nap a bit- Maybe. Maybe not.
Greg will be driving out tonight after work too.
I am tired, but only because the bed is not the most comfy, and well, you already know about my darned back.

I will most certainly post the hospital address and room number when she gets in her own room.

And I still have cards to send out too. Or better said, my silly Christmas notes.
Maybe now they will be New Years notes. Oh well.
