[My] Life in Wisconsin

Mad as Heck...

Good Morning All;
We are in Minnesota, an uneventful trip thank God.
Am having an awful time with the internet in this room, and it is slower than my dial up at home! I can't get to my Flickr any more, so I still cannot share the pictures I have of our Little Lawrence in the snow in Alabama.
What a bunch of hoo~ha that site has become...

I did bring Punk to the vet yesterday morning before we'd left town.  Doc Spires says she does NOT have an ear infection; and after checking the cytology of the moisture in her ears, he told me she has plain old allergies. She is now on antihistamines. ("Sleep, Punkie, sleep")... And some ear drops to make the itchy feeling go away.
She has some antibiotics to take also, for an infected right anal gland. (How the heck THAT happens is beyond me)?!?? Since antibiotics are the root of all evil, (and poo), I will wait until we get home to begin giving her those. I really don't think that a nice hotel room is the best place to find out if she gets diarrhea from them, do you?!

So no pics today- And I would call the admin on this, but since Casey is sleeping so good I am not going to be talking, and wake her.

I did at least manage to get my own Leek Soup recipe posted for anyone who would like to try it. Let me know how it turns out for you.

Casey's appointment with Dr. Sutherland is at 9:30... Must get in the shower shortly.

Have a "wunnaful" Wednesday!

Love to all

XOXO
Me

  2. Prayers coming left and right.....I'll be with you at the doctor appointment. :) Poor Punkie with
allergies and you are right now to try anything new in a hotel room away from home. LOL I totally
    agree. :)
Good luck, my friend. Big hugs.

  3. Prayers for Casey, Punk, and Anne.

We will just have to wait on those pictures.

Try to keep us updated, knowing that may be difficult with the connection issues.

  4. Good morning Rock,

Good luck with the doctors appointment.

I have never particularly cared for Flickr.. especially after having someone "borrow" my pictures to put on their page. Actually freaked me out, it did. I like Photobucket, and I know folks can "borrow" you pictures there too if you allow it, but to me it just seems way more user friendly and its not owned by Yahoo. I think thats the biggest plus of all.

Have a wonderful uneventful day! :)

If it’s any compensation, the wireless Internet here is semi-stuffed as well...

Most things (email fetching or sending, shell, FTP, etc) are about one seventh as fast as they should be, or in other words about half as fast again as dialup, but web access in particular is stunningly slow, down around 2-300 bytes per second, about one fifteenth the speed of dialup or about 0.5% of the speed they should be.

Plus it tends to drop things, downloads tail off & stop instead of completing, components like the JavaScript to properly quote replies on Multiply simply don’t happen.

  9. You can always just pop the anal gland. (eeewwww) Tell Case I love her, and call me later. K?

  10. I hope Casey will soon be all better and you're on your way home soon.

Thanks for the "Leek Soup" recipe!

It's kinda gross but... have Punk's Vet teach you how to squeeze out Punk's anal glands. Monthly during a bath will usually prevent this from happening.

Guest's at my hotel complain all the time about the speed of our DSL. We have "bridges" we can loan to guests to boost their signal strength and that usually helps.

  11. Said a prayer and hope all is well.

  12. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Casey.

I spent 3 years as a professional dog groomer in another life ( when I was 18-21) and anal glands are the nastiest things ever. 2nd of course to the stench of skunk. I feel for you, but reconstitutedteen has the best advice. put it on the calendar and empty those babies...ick!

I only know the horrors of hotel internet from Mark's travel stories. Should we look at it this way....you have something to distract you slightly from the reason your there and you can throw a fit over it and vent some?

I enjoy making soup. I have been to your leek recipe already and stolen it. Thanks!

Yuck! -on the subject of Flickr. Like Morysa I prefer photobucket on the rare occasions I need to use it.

Will check in later for an update on KC.

    Till then...(HUG)

  13. Hey Sweets!
I am back at the hotel room.
Casey drove back to P/W to complete another test.
I have a godawful headache, and so we will stay another night...

I think I have to wait for Casey to blog. However I will say this much.
If/when she needs more surgery it will not be til June, (they hope).

With the exception of a very few pictures (out of about 5000), they are posted "private" as I upload them.
Yes, I know people can still steal them from here, but that's a chance i SHALL JUST TAKE.
mOST EVERYONE ASKs before they steal. (So by then it is not stealing anymore)! hehehe

Sorry about the dang caps lock being on there.

  16. Hi Again!
Have to see if the reply works this time...

In the beginning of my session in the wee hours this morning, the only tab that actually worked was Flickr.
Then that went all haywire too...
Kept opening/closing Multiply- Starting and restarting my laptop too.
    Just got GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR~mad then

  19. I wonder sometimes if Miss Punk just worries herself into her own little problems because she knows when Miss Casey is having her problems. You know....sort of like....sympathetic illness. I do believe Punk worries like the rest of us.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I can't believe that there's a 'slower than dial up' speed! When I was in the UK I just gave up because it was taking so long to open anything up (other than the actual machine!). It's sooo nice to be home to 'proper' speed.

I hope Punkie's itching is soothed soon. Poor love. Peachie's got a point, it may be a sympathy thing. My boys (twins) were always 'sympatico' that way. One would smack his head against a door (accidentally of course - it wasn't some kind of weird and cruel scientific experiment we were carrying out!) and the other would get a headache. It was kind of cute really!
    Hugs to you all xxx

  21. Had to laugh at the thought of Punk on antibiotics in a hotel room. Sorry couldnt help it
But at least her Human is smart enough to not start them yet

  22. Oh Slower then dial up is terrible!!! I saw your recipe and thanks for posting it!!! Prayers for Casey! Hugs your way!!

  23. Hope you feel better by tomorrow.

I really hope that will help you do pictures easier. If Something is unclear, just let me know. I will clarify myself. I always understand myself, but tend to confuse others on occasion.

  24. Sweet RT;
Sorry that I had to leave earlier...
And I really wanted to get this reply posted, but to no avail.
So I napped for over 4 hours...
    hehehe

Yes, my damned head hurts. Not so bad as before though.

    Back to Punks backside..

    I am the strong one.
Always was, and I think always will have to be.

Can I deliver a baby? In a heartbeat. And not just of the "human animal" variety
Can I wade through oceans of cow/horse poop? You betcha.
Can I skin anything? Gut and clean and cook it too? Ditto.
Can I tend to medical crap of the human body? Same answer.
Was it me that dealt with Miss Milly as I first noticed her hemorhaging? Yup.
Did I change Randys bolus meds on his PICC line 3 x day until he recovered from his stroke? Yes.
Have I grown to know more about my youngests betraying body than a parent should ever have to? Yes.
Was it me in the OR for Marys surgery when she had breast cancer? yes it was
    Do I know CPR? Yes.
Was it me that walked up to the driver of the car in front of me that had just gotten broadsided by an old Buick Electra? Yes.

    But.

    No...

    ...BUTT

I absolutely vehemently refuse to stick my 'finners' up my dogs arse.

I am thinking you might be right about those sympathy issues. That, and losing her mama probably has her own "worry" setting on high.

Casey tells me that Punk laid down by her but had to be on the "my" bed side so she could watch me too.

I am so happy you are back- I received your private message and will respond tomorrow. What a "trip" you had!

Yes, this is slow speed here. Casey called the provider, they reset something and it worked fine. Now it is doing the same damned thing all over again...
Oh well. I shall never complain about home speed again.

I am giggling at your twins too. How much fun you must have had!

  35. I don't use those online photo things. I can barely upload my pics from my cameras so that is waayy beyond my capabilities. I had computer issues yesterday and today. Spending 2 hours with a tech online somewhere in cyberspace finally fixed the problem.

I have never messed with my dogs anal glans and I hope I never have to. They are both so big that I suspect if I had too, I would end up frustrated. Miss Molly is ok, but Mr. Rocky is not the most coperative of dogs for anything.

I will keep your daughter in my thoughts and hope things turn out better for her. I hope your head is better also.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sweet Judy!
Casey has just called the technician again, and finally it all seems better.
hopefully it keeps on working at least 'til we get home!

Punk was OK, well almost, til I remembered that she had "ky~iked" when she sat down the other day. So Dr. Spires decided to check it all out once more...
She cried out at one point, probably as he'd broken through the infection. Poor thing.
So she was kind of frustrated too. hehehe
Just know I do not think I could ever do that to her.
Causing pain is not one of my strong points.

My head sux. But managed too.
Not looking forward to the drive home tomorrow.

  39. You dont stick your fingers in the anus, lol.

    Here is a video, lol.
    http://www.expertvillage.com/video/8453_dog-grooming-basics-glands.htm

    Instructions
    Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1Prepare a bath for your dog. The secretions of the anal gland are highly unpleasant to smell, and the contents of the gland can spray out unexpectedly during expression. Expressing the anal glands in a tub allow you to perform this task and immediately control the mess and odor.

Step2Locate the anal gland openings. Look at approximately 5 and 7 o'clock around the anus of the dog. They may be impossible or difficult to visualize.

Step3Feel for the glands with your thumb and forefinger beneath the skin under the anal gland openings. The glands are about the size of a kidney bean. They may be enlarged if the sacs are impacted or infected.

Step4Press in and squeeze with your finger and thumb in an upward motion. The goal is to get the gland under your fingers on each side, and force the contents to the surface and out the opening. You should use firm pressure, but not so firm that you cause discomfort to the dog. This step can be done with a warm washcloth or paper towel covering the anus to prevent the secretions from spraying.

Step5Repeat Step 4 until you no longer notice the greenish or brownish fluid being expressed.

Step6Wash the anal area thoroughly. The secretions of the anal glands can be transferred to your furniture, clothing or pet's bedding if it remains on your pet's coat. It is imperative to remove all of the odor from the dog after expressing the glands.

  40. All the dogs I have had in my lifetime and all the good care I have takne of them to assure that all of them have lived to ripe old ages well past "expected" and I cna say with 100% certanty that I have NEVER EVER needed to do this.... notr have I had to have some one do it for the dog... it never hurt a dog yet....

    ick,

    yuck

    ReplyDelete
  41. Its like diabetes, some are prone to problems and some arent. If you see them scooting their rear ends across the floor, you might want to express the glands or have them done. If you don't they will may end up squirting out on your carpet or becoming impacted and infected.

    ReplyDelete

  42. Punk has never scooted- But maybe because of her back injury too.

The vet stuck his fingers up her butt.
