[My] Life in Wisconsin

Huh?

HELP! (Um... Pretty please)?
My own explanation will follow... But first your own input is needed.

In the course of conversation today, I was told the following... (and I quote).
"We have not ever seen this in a long time."

What's that mean?
  1. Does this mean we have never seen it?
  2. Or does it mean we haven't seen it in a long time?

Things got hairy just about then, and I didn't catch it right away. I didn't ask... And cannot do so until tomorrow. Those words are just resonating.

I am eagerly awaiting your replies.

XOXO

  2. This sentence itself is just mis-written the way I see it.

Maybe it was just a typo and someones mind was thinking in two different ways.

But like you, either they have not EVER seen it....or they haven't seen it in a long time.

  3. To me it means that person has seen or heard of it before today but it's been awhile since "Now" the present since or that they have seen or heard of it; if that's the way they meant it ?

  5. It was conversation. I only repeated it word for word.

  6. I missed the word " Ever " so I change my opinion; so my answer above is incorrect;
If it was spoken to me in conversation I would point out to that person that they had just expressed an Oxymoron and I would therefore question their reasoning.

  7. However that's just my " Unbiased Opinion " :-) we can "agree to disagree" but "I have not ever heard of anyone doing that in a long time."

  9. HAHAHHA! I think whoever was talking was trying to get over the fact that whatever they'd just seen was SOOOOO interesting/exciting/amazing/stupid/whatever ..... that her/his brain stopped working making her/him add an 'ever' too many!!!! Bless!
