Casey Update- And Her New Friend

Casey, waiting for the doctor...

Good Morning All;
When we went to the clinic for Casey's exam for her pain, she had a few things going on.
1st, after all those infusions, her blood counts are only up to 7.3.

2nd, with those blood tests they checked her blood sugar too. (Remember, she does not take insulin).
Her blood sugar was at 50. Those islet cells sure are working very well. Odd though as she'd had a Mountain Dew for her migraine at that point in time.
They gave her an option of "Grape or Orange?"
She chose grape and had to eat 6 big sugar pills to bring it up (before she fell over).

While waiting for everything, she did make a new friend...

This is Fred.  (Whom she promptly goosed).

Casey gooses Fred

Fred was not real amenable to such a loose and forward young woman-

Fred, reading KC's chart note
and had to check her records first...
hehehe

Love to all!

XOXO

  2. 50 is really low. I don't know what else to say. Is there anything at all they can do to keep it up?

  4. lol, I love that first pic the most, Casey and the "Fred" dude are sitting alike! ;P

I do hope that everything is going to be okay with Casey, she must be getting awfully sick and tired of having to go see the doctor.

  6. Sweet Snotball!
I don't even know how it gets that low- Perhaps those islet cells are on overload for some reason that I know nothing about...
I wonder too how long those sugar pills even worked? They never did recheck her b/s's, and since we were there over an hour after they closed, there would have been no way to get that into her records, save for the dictation note by the doctor.

Short of having her carry around a sandwich with her everywhere, I have no suggestions on how to maintain a healthy blood sugar level for her...
    So... help?

  7. Sweet Pamela!
She gets sweaty and shaky too- And adds a low grade fever into the mix also. (But maybe that is because of the MIA spleen?)-

Back to my previous reply... Carry a sandwich?
    Do let me know...

  8. Sweet Suzy!
hehehe And that is why I snapped that picture! it was too funny!
She'd had a migraine that day in addition to everything else going on, and so the overhead lights were turned off. We did put the little OB light on, and it gave off just enough light to see these things...
I still giggle when I see those 2 together.

Even in pain Casey has this amazing sense of humor!
... So she just grabs the dude, and makes even more funny memories!

  11. I carry around lifesavers or other candy. I start to feel faint and eat one...voila. Or more likely my friends point out hat my head has just spun round and I eat a piece of candy.

  12. Your Humor makes me smile. Always!

Those Mountain Dews are so full of caffeine they work much better than a coke for a migraine. You can get downright perky from that pick-me-up. I know I do. :)

  13. Whew...at 50 Drew can't even think straight. I'd be sure she had her monitor with her at all times....and some kind of quick snack..until she can get to something substancial. Lifesavers, mints, or the glucose tablets(Drew likes the sour apple flavor) and they also have a gel. Some we know carry the gel "CakeMate" cake decorating gels/icinigs with them.
Drew has migraines also...he has to go with Diet Dew.
    Love Fred!

  15. No! Say it ain't true? That head spin around thing does not mean anything about blood sugars.
    (Linda Blair comes to mind).

  17. Aw! That makes me happy! (And your smile is so 'wunnaful' too)!
I am giggling at your 'perkiness'. hehehe

  18. Who said she was thinking straight? hehehe Just look what she did to poor Fred! hehehe
I don't think she carries her monitor- I promise to tell her what you said about that. It is a great idea.

Sour Apple sounds a far cry better than the 2 choices Casey was given. (Sheesh, I thought they were offering her a Nehi)!
