- What the dickens is on this maple tree?!?.
.
Good Morning...
The above picture is indicative of only one of my maples- About a 20 year old tree, growing next to a mulberry tree. Not sure what those "things" are that are on all the leaves...
Hope you have all had a grand week.
We have been busy.
Almost always a good thing, save for when my back goes nutty. It has been spasming something fierce, those spasms knocking the wind out of me. But relief to know that if I do lose my breath that I will pass out and normal breathing always takes over then.
Feels like I fell flat on my back and got the wind knocked out.
Yes, (sorry) I will live. hehehe
I have tons of catching up to do once more...
Things are normal in Flintville...
Jenne steals (and stores), Isaiah's crayons, - and colors in his books...
.
.
And so, Isaiah must find other things to do...
.
.
.
.
.
Punk has no problem keeping him company on his little adventures.
.
.
.
.
.
Sometimes Isaiah has to content himself as I sew. hehehe
I think I forgot how to sew properly. (It is NOT like riding a bike)!
.
.
.
.
Isaiah's dad, (Brad), took him to BayFest yesterday.
.
.
.
.
He will come home this afternoon, so I don't know if he had fun or not.
I am going to say he had a grand time with all the rides.
This picture was taken as they were setting it all up on Wednesday.
.
Casey too is more and more back to "normal" too hehehe
.
.
.
But she was more than wide awake by the time we got downtown.
And quickly noticed the sassy graffiti on this train!
.
.
.
.
Punk apparently wanted a drink as we stopped for that train... - Guess she prefers the very local domestic brew from our Hinterland Brewery!
.
.
.
.
.
Taking a walk the other day, and to see this little varmint sent Punk to chasing it, then trying to 'find' it below the hole it had run into.
.
.
.
.
Jenne and Isaiah went to fill up that now much enlarged hole.
.
.
.
.
And yes, Isaiah did help his Mama!
.
.
.
.
The Wery's have been very busy in the fields-
.
.
.
Grant has been out there since sunup this morning-
trying to cultivate the lowland dry so they can finish planting.
.
.
More rain is predicted for this afternoon. And so, with respect to another day of rest for my back, the mowing will just have to keep until tomorrow. (It is getting much too fuzzy out there for my tastes).
.
.
.
Notice the grass fuzz by Isaiah's legs.
Even the height of the grass falls under "normal" this year.
sigh
.
.
Hope you all have a "wunnaful" weekend!
My love to all!
XOXO

"President Obama in Green Bay, Wisconsin"
As many of you know, President Obama came to Green Bay on Thursday.
.
.
.
.
Casey and I had SO wanted tickets, but that darn White House never called our numbers. We contented ourselves to sit on the lawn and chat with her neighbors, various security, and a charming young journalist who happens to be getting married today!.
Casey and Greg live in the security apartments right across the road from Southwest High School. The Green Bay Police had brought the blockades on Wednesday already, so Casey had called management to inquire-
*Packerland Drive would be completely closed off, (as would be all entrances and exits from the complex), from 11AM until 3PM. - (I left here at 10:15, and was still challenged as I arrived at Packerland Drive).
.
.
.
.
There seemed to be surveillance everywhere, and lots of "men in black" too.
As I arrived at the entrance, (10:30), there was a police car blocking it already. He told me to try the next entrance.
There? Another police car. But he allowed me through.
Punk came along also. (I think she wants health care for dogs too)! hehehe
.
.
- Punk is innately uneasy in a 'town' type setting.
and did not want either of us out of her sight.
And I had walked away from her to take a few pictures
.
Since the road was closed completely soon after I had arrived, there was no traffic to contend with.
.
.
.
Punk did quite well all things considered. UNTIL...
.
.
.
She was NOT amused by the Coast Guard Helicopter that flew round and round!
This, from the time our President landed at Austin Straubel, until he arrived at the high school.
(This was the ONLY aircraft allowed in the air from about 45 minutes before Air Force One arrived).
.
.
.
The people lucky enough to have gotten tickets were told to park at NWTC (Northeast Wisconsin Technical College). Lamers bus lines then drove them to the high school, providing the people showed them tickets prior to boarding.
There were about 6 buses that ran back and forth.
.
.
.
.
I took a few pictures around that main driveway.
Governor Doyle's car.
.
.
.
There was security even up there!
This is what that little red arrow points to....
.
.
.
At the back end of the main drag at the apartment complex were two vehicles that were of the "watch~and~be~watched" variety...
.
.
.
.
And of course the Secret Service sharpshooters and SWAT boys on various roofs.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
So we found it more than interesting to be outside too!
Not sure if I would have even looked up the driveway, but the officer at that drive was watching up there a lot.
.
.
.
.
.
The gal from WLUK Channel 11 had asked to interview Casey at one point.
(But those plans got squashed
when Mr Obama's motorcade came from the opposite direction).
.
.
I snapped a few more random pictures.
Noticing this man too.
Since there was NO FOOT TRAFFIC allowed on any of the sidewalks, nor bicycles, he had apparently ridden his bike out of the woods.
.
.
.
.
Imagine my surprise as I turned around a few moments later and the man and bike were right behind me!
Turns out he is an old friend from Pulaski. Valerie's dad had worked for him at one point- Dave Wilkey having more than a few farms from Suamico to Pulaski to Shawano and Bonduel.
He had been driving up Highway 54 with the bike in the back of the pickup, saw all the hullaballoo, and thought he would take a little ride down to the school.
He DID have to come through the woods! hehehe Nice to see him again, and not busting his backside on one of his farms. He would stop in the store at Wouters Front every now and then completely flushed...
(He is also the ONLY person I ever allowed to go into the cooler).
There was a couple who lived nearby and had tickets to get in. They had walked through the parking lot...
(Shown below, arguing with Officer Ron Reese of GB Police Dept).
.
.
In their defense, the parking lot announcements never said that people HAD to ride the buses.
Perhaps it was written on their tickets? Or maybe I just missed it too.
They were not allowed to cross the street. And therefore were not allowed to attend the Town Hall Meeting..
Officer Reese even called the SS to find out what to do. Not allowed.
In Officer Reese's defense, they could have walked on down the road through the woods to cross where it was open. Too lazy I suppose.
.
.
.
.
.
I had brought ample water along for Punk, but Officer Reese saved me the walk back to the car as he had donated a bottle to Miss Punk.
.
.
.
.
We'd had a great afternoon!
And with certain respect to my panic attacks, it is probably a very good thing that our #'s weren't called. It might have been more than a world of embarrassment to have had a panic attack in front of the President of the United States...
Know that the only thing I have to add to my resume at this point is that I might have gotten yelled at by that darned Secret Service. (I didn't do it).
And then they all flew away almost as quickly as they'd come...
.
.
.
Love to all!
As I want to save these little stories, I shall also be posting a new blog shortly- Perhaps later this morning. I do know I am terribly far behind...
XOXO

I ♥ NY ~Smoked Salmon Recall

http://www.fda.gov/Safety/Recalls/ucm164620.htm
Sometimes I go through these recalls and just have to chuckle...
This company must think we are exceptionally stupid as they wrote the following:
"Consumers who have purchased I ♥ NY brand Imperial-European Style Smoked Salmon with the identified lot code numbers should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers who have this product are urged not to consume any of it."
Ya think????
*******
NY Fish Inc. Recalls Imperial-European Style Smoked Salmon Because of Possible Health Risk
Contact: NY FISH INC. (718) 342-4100
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 5, 2009 –
N.Y. Fish, Inc. of Brooklyn, NY is recalling I ♥ NY Fish brand Imperial-European Style Smoked Salmon in vacuum packed 3 oz, 8 oz, 16 oz, and whole side “to be weighed at time of sale” sizes of lots starting with # 142 xxxx, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
I ♥ NY brand Imperial-European Style Smoked Salmon was distributed to wholesale distributors and retail food stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois.
The product is packed sliced or whole sides on aluminum coated cardboard in a clear plastic vacuum packed bag with a red, black, and gold sticker label with gold lettering and a small white sticker label identifying the lot code. The first three digits are the Lot Code followed by a four digit “packaging” date. The firm is recalling all lots that begin with code 142 (for example: 142 0525, 142 0526, 142 0527, 142 0528).
This recall is the result of samples of Imperial-European Style Smoked Salmon collected from the manufacturer during an FDA inspection of the facility.
These samples revealed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes. As a precaution, the company is recalling all I ♥ NY brand Imperial-European Style Smoked Salmon bearing the identified lot codes.
Consumers who have purchased I ♥ NY brand Imperial-European Style Smoked Salmon with the identified lot code numbers should return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers who have this product are urged not to consume any of it. Consumers with any questions may contact the company at (718) 342-4100, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm EDT.

Little girl gets big note from Obama
Press-Gazette • June 11, 2009, 2:23 p.m.
One 10-year-old Wisconsin girl has a rock-solid excuse for missing the last day of school: a personal note to her teacher from President Barack Obama.
John Corpus of Green Bay stood to ask Obama a question about health care during his town hall-style meeting. He told Obama his daughter Kennedy missed school to attend the event and he hoped she didn’t get in trouble.
Obama offered to write a note to her teacher. The crowd laughed, but Obama followed through.
On a piece of paper, he wrote: "Please excuse Kennedy’s absence. She’s with me. Barack Obama."
Kennedy says getting the note "was like the best thing ever" and she plans to frame it. She says she’ll make a copy to give her teacher.

BBQ Rules! (Very cute).

BBQ RULES
I know that a few of you have temps over 10 degrees year round. Not all of us are so lucky. But even when temps are at or below zero, some of us fire up the BBQ anyway...
We are about to enter the BBQ season.
Therefore it is highly important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity...
When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:
Routine...
(1) The woman buys the food.
(2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert.
(3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand.
(4) The woman remains outside the compulsory three meter exclusion zone where the exuberance of testosterone and other manly bonding activities can take place without the interference of the woman.
Here comes the important part:
(5) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL.
Back to routine...
(6) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
(7) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is looking great. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he flips the meat.
Important again:
(8) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.
Back to routine again...
(9) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table.
(10) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.
And most important of all:
(11) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts.
After all of the above, the following always applies...
(12) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed ' her night off'; then upon seeing her annoyed reaction concludes that there's just no pleasing some women.
Pandemic has begun... (From The World Health Org.).

WHO: Swine flu pandemic has begun
6/11/2009 3:15PM (CDT)
GENEVA – The World Health Organization declared a swine flu pandemic Thursday — the first global flu epidemic in 41 years — as infections in the United States, Europe, Australia, South America and elsewhere climbed to nearly 30,000 cases.
The long-awaited pandemic announcement is scientific confirmation that a new flu virus has emerged and is quickly circling the globe. WHO will now ask drugmakers to speed up production of a swine flu vaccine, which it said would available after September. The declaration will also prompt governments to devote more money toward efforts to contain the virus.
WHO chief Dr. Margaret Chan made the announcement Thursday after the U.N. agency held an emergency meeting with flu experts. Chan said she was moving to phase 6 — the agency's highest alert level — which means a pandemic, or global epidemic, is under way.
"The world is moving into the early days of its first influenza pandemic in the 21st century," Chan told reporters. "The virus is now unstoppable."
"However, we do not expect to see a sudden and dramatic jump in the number of severe and fatal infections," she added.
On Thursday, WHO said 74 countries had reported 28,774 cases of swine flu, including 144 deaths. Chan described the danger posed by the virus as "moderate."
The agency has stressed that most cases are mild and require no treatment, but the fear is that a rash of new infections could overwhelm hospitals and health authorities — especially in poorer countries.
Still, about half of the people who have died from swine flu were previously young and healthy — people who are not usually susceptible to flu. Swine flu is also crowding out regular flu viruses. Both features are typical of pandemic flu viruses.
The last pandemic — the Hong Kong flu of 1968 — killed about 1 million people. Ordinary flu kills about 250,000 to 500,000 people each year.
Swine flu is also continuing to spread during the start of summer in the northern hemisphere. Normally, flu viruses disappear with warm weather, but swine flu is proving to be resilient.
"What this declaration does do is remind the world that flu viruses like H1N1 need to be taken seriously," said Kathleen Sebelius, the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services, warning that more cases could crop up in the fall.
"We need to start preparing now in order to be ready for a possible H1N1 immunization campaign starting in late September," she said in a statement from Washington.
Chan said WHO was now recommending that flu vaccine makers start making swine flu vaccine. Drug giant GlaxoSmithKline PLC said they could start large-scale production of pandemic vaccine in July but that it would take several months before large quantities would be available.
Glaxo spokesman Stephen Rea said the company's first doses of vaccine would be reserved for countries who had ordered it in advance, including Belgium, Britain and France. He said the company would also donate 50 million doses to WHO for poor countries.
Pascal Barollier, a spokesman for Sanofi-Aventis, said they were also working on a pandemic vaccine but WHO had not yet asked them to start producing mass quantities of it.
The pandemic decision might have been made much earlier if WHO had more accurate information about swine flu's rising sweep through Europe. Chan said she called the emergency meeting with flu experts after concerns were raised that some countries like Britain were not accurately reporting their cases.
Chan said the experts unanimously agreed there was a wider spread of swine flu than what was being reported.
Chan would not say which country tipped the world into the pandemic, but the agency's top flu expert, Dr. Keiji Fukuda, said the situation from Australia seemed to indicate the virus was spreading rapidly there — up to 1,260 cases late Wednesday.
Many health experts said the world has been in a pandemic for weeks but WHO became bogged down by politics. In May, several countries urged WHO not to declare a pandemic, fearing it would cause social and economic turmoil.
"This is WHO finally catching up with the facts," said Michael Osterholm, a flu expert at the University of Minnesota.
Despite WHO's hopes, Thursday's announcement will almost certainly spark panic about spread of swine flu in some countries.
Fear has already gripped Argentina, where thousands of people worried about swine flu flooded into hospitals this week, bringing emergency health services in the capital of Buenos Aires to the brink of collapse. Last month, a bus arriving in Argentina from Chile was stoned by people who thought a passenger on it had swine flu.
Chile has the most swine flu cases in South America, and the southern hemisphere is moving into its winter flu season.
In Hong Kong on Thursday, the government ordered all kindergartens and primary schools closed for two weeks after a dozen students tested positive for swine flu. The decision affected over half a million students.
In the United States, where there have been more than 13,000 cases and at least 27 deaths from swine flu, officials at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the move would not change how the U.S. tackled swine flu.
"Our actions in the past month have been as if there was a pandemic in this country," Glen Nowak, a CDC spokesman, said Thursday.
The U.S. government has already increased the availability of flu-fighting medicines and authorized $1 billion for the development of a new swine flu vaccine. In addition, new cases seem to be declining in many parts of the country, U.S. health officials say, as North America moves out of its traditional winter flu season.
Still, New York City reported three more swine flu deaths Thursday, including one child under 2, one teenager and one person in their 30s.
"Countries where outbreaks appear to have peaked should prepare for a second wave of infection," Chan warned, adding that the virus could mutate "without rhyme or reason, at any time."
In Mexico, where the epidemic was first detected, the outbreak peaked in April. Mexico now has less than 30 cases reported a day, down from an average of 300, Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova told The Associated Press. Mexico has confirmed 6,337 cases, including 108 deaths.
Cordova said he is concerned that other countries were not taking drastic measures to stop its spread like Mexico, which closed schools, restaurants, theaters, and canceled public events. He said the Mexican government has strengthened its detection system to spot cases in most of its 32 states to prepare for a possible second wave of infections in the winter.
"There's much anxiety over how the virus will act in the Southern Hemisphere, because the zone is currently showing a large number of new cases, in particular Australia, Chile and Argentina," Cordova said.
Many experts said the declaration of a pandemic did not mean the virus was getting deadlier.
"People might imagine a virus is now going to rush in and kill everyone," said John Oxford, a professor of virology at St. Bart's and Royal London Hospital. "That's not going to happen."
But Oxford said the swine flu virus might evolve into a more dangerous strain in the future.
"That is always a possibility with influenza viruses," he said. "We have to watch very carefully to see what this virus does."

Ohio grads told to 'leave the state'

Eastlake North High School graduates thrown into state of confusion:

Michael K. McIntyre
The note, titled "Congatulation"
Be there on time.
Stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.
Don't chew gum.
Do wear sensible shoes.
Refrain from shouting, whistling or hooting.
And: "The graduates will leave the state immediately after the ceremony."
***
Everyone knows brain drain is a problem in Ohio, but the school is actually mandating it?
Has anyone alerted the governor?
A follow-up notice provided clarification: from here: http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2009/06/08/Ohio-grads-told-to-leave-the-state/UPI-70351244487411/
While the follow-up cleared up one funny faux pas, the correction included its own error: Students were told to be at the theater no later than 3:45 a.m. instead of the intended 3:45 p.m.
Clearly, no one meant for students to show up more than 12 hours early.
But you can't blame them for moving to a state of confusion.

Tiffany ...and The Heat Wave...
We are to beat this by about 15 degrees today...
.
.
Good Morning All;
I do believe the sun might be peeking out from behind the clouds.
Either that, or the sky is on fire.
Both are a shock after these past days- Out of the past 3 weeks, we have only had 7 days that were not rainy. (That is not to say they were warm though).
Last Friday was perfect!
Have much running around to do today, so will keep this short and sweet.
Short, would be my blog. Sweet would be this picture...
.
.
.
Tiffany, Casey and Jennifer!
..
My cousin Tiffany, (aka Buttercup), stopped in on her way home to Sault Ste. Marie.
She has graduated, and will be teaching in Colorado again this coming year. But has all summer to spend at home!
She stayed overnight on Sunday, and is now back to The Soo! I cannot wait to be able to get up there myself.
Been wrestling with a bit of a migraine yet. Still, have much to do, but the day is relatively young. Must get my wash on the line before I leave to do my errands.
Have a wunnaful day!
XOXO

Feels Like April to Me...

- Taken from back by the woods..
- .
- .
Good Morning Everyone!
After my "Anna Needs..." silly blog last night, I now find myself "in need" of more rational thoughts. hehehe
Been SO busy- A good thing too.
Yesterday to have met Casey at the fabric store for a few patterns and lots of material.
hehehe... "Jenne needs" maternity clothes, and since long ago when I was expecting, it seems as though only the high end retailers or specialty shops carry those clothes.
She is 6' tall, and obviously needs the longer length throughout the clothing, tops and bottoms, and needs the XL size as well. I refuse to pay $50.00+ for a pair of jeans or shorts, or for a top that I could sew for less than 1/4th of the price or less. - Material is way overpriced too. (Anna needs material) hehehe
Isaiah is such a sweetheart! Many things he does remind me of Jenne when she was younger- (Even the sweetheart part)!
.
.
.
.
We had taken a ride to the woods on Friday.
But first to fit everyone in the wagon. Punk really loves this ride, and wouldn't give up her seat for love or money...
.
.
.
.
Just add pillows, and viola! everyone is comfy!
(OK, probably more cozy than comfy).- .
Possibly even more "sardine" than cozy too...
.
I'd cut a swath with the mower as we went back-
Easier to walk through it next time then.
.
.
Handing Jenne the camera as I drove the mower, she'd taken a few pics.
.
.
Do you think he's having fun?.
.
- Know that "time" may be a great healer...
... but it's also a lousy beautician. hehehe
.
..
Isaiah loves the dogs, and had kisses and pats for them both!.
They love him too!
.
.
.
CaseyAnne came out on Friday too...
Time to be thinking about what to christen the robot..
.
Then there is always time for a good PUSH! too
.
.
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee....
.
Then to grow tired of it, and to watch for a while.
.
.
.
.
.
You have NO idea how it does my heart to see Casey having fun once again.
It was nice and warm on Friday.
Yesterday we even set a record... - From here...
"If it seemed cold to you in Green Bay on Saturday, it was.
The high temperature for the day, reached at 9:50 a.m., was 52°. That set a record for the lowest high temperature for June 6, according to the National Weather Service office in Ashwaubenon.
The old mark was 53°, set in 1943.
There are showers and thunderstorms in the forecast through Monday night, with highs of 56° today and 59 on Monday."
It is currently about 50° Sadly, NOT in contrast to yesterdays temps and precipitation.
A darn cold weather pattern for us in June, even for Wisconsin. My feet are cold as I type. And yes, the furnace has even kicked in over the past few days. I am so jealous of those of you who have a fireplace or a wood stove!
Maybe July will be the month I don't have to pay for heat? Grrr...
.
.
Looks like a pterodactyl to me!.
.
Jenne and Isaiah are fixin' to leave for mass, and I have another zillion dishes to do.
(Anna needs a dishwasher).
Love to all!
Have a 'wunnaful' Sun(ny)Day!
XOXO
Me
