Adding Salt. To Salt???

Isn't it ugly?
So tired of winter.

Hi all;
Or hi someone?
Anyone?
Oh, holy carp, but I swear I don't know how to blog anymore. (Heck with that, I barely even can type anymore either). hehehe
Life goes on.

It's has been a miserably l~o~n~g winter- My wonderful plow guy has just left once more, clearing the yard and the concrete of this godforsaken snow.  I am happy to have him. A better description might be 'very fortunate'.
He is such a good man- a hard worker. Married to Big Sam's sister, he is Lady Valerie's uncle too.

I am freezing just from

A Migraine (Mine), A Moron (Me), Multiply, and More

Best to grab a cup of coffee, or a nightcap.
It's kinda long... Sorry.

Dear Santa;
Please send me a Sony digital camera.
I am truly lost without mine.

Good Afternoon!!!
And happy Friday' to all who are here blogging/reading on our new site. I hope everyone has their sites, info, etc all migrated away from Multiply since Multiply will close very soon.

'As the tummy growls' ...
I am famished right now, and will catch you all up on my day shortly.  (But at this point, I am also way too tired to even think of cooking anything).

If you have read my previous notes on Multiply, then you already know that my car broke down eons ago...
Not really needing to go anywhere, I tried to ignore that specific dark cloud. Which was

7-UP Please?

Good Morning All;
I went in yesterday morning for 6 more shots in my spine...
They didn't work, but I did throw up all of last night.
Not too sure what that is all about? Though I had been having migraine problems, on and off, all of this past week. (Which I could not take my meds for that because of these upcoming shots).
I called Casey when I began barfing- She told me to take two Benedryl; as it makes your meds work better AND, it works as an anti~emetic too. (Glad I called her- At least I learned something). But I couldn't find any Benedryl to save my soul.
I did manage to sleep for about 2 hours- I will try that again soon; though waking up sick is not my cup of tea. (Anyone have a 7-up for me)?
It is not only my back- Unless neck is back- But there is something also wrong with my neck as my little fingers and ring fingers don't feel right. Both hands. (Sometimes they feel nothing- as do the tops of my toes). Mostly it's a sleeping, buzzing, feeling in my fingers. My doctor has already told me that he can do nothing about this.
Casey had hit a bump on our way back home, (admittedly these are impossible to avoid on this road), and my right hip gave an awful pain -as my back seized up at the same time. I don't recall ever making a noise like that in my life. (Sorry Casey, I didn't mean to scare you). Thank God we were so close to home, and off the freeway; or I would have just opened the door and allowed myself to fall out.
This has all progressed from bad to worse so frickin' damned fast that I just don't know what to do anymore. My hips are both killing me today, and my stomach wants food, but I can't feed it either.
Yup the picture above is accurate. This really does suck. I'll be lucky to even keep my pills down today...
Any suggestions?
I go in on Monday for a physical. (This is insurance required for the pain pump 'trial').  I am having that "trial" come the 27th.
We will have to make 4 trips into town that week- and even just thinking about having to do that sucks too. Casey will be bringing me to those.
Casey has been having problems of her own, adjusting to a new elixir. I do hope that those get better before this all has to happen for me. I really have no one else to ask for a ride.

God help me. Starving, and in pain, is no effing way to go through life.
How very odd that I still believe in karma...

Am going to try to sleep a bit now. Have a grand weekend. My love to all

XOXO
Me

sorry about that...

Good Night Everyone;
As I'd written to my Sweet Becca last night...

I spent yesterday at the hospital... (I could barely move from all the pain- and had swollen up like a water balloon).   Casey brought me in-

They gave me 3 different kinds of things in my IV to try to counteract the damned boo~boo my doctor had made last Thursday.-
Truth be told I could not even concentrate well enough to read-
I told Becca I would come back again tomorrow (today). I promised.
And told her that if I didn't, she had my permission to
drive up here and steal my new set of wheels
...

bent

... My guess is that she is probably heading north already!

I also received a very very cool letter from Doug. I had taken more than a few minutes to write a response when my desktop decided to crash...
I lost the whole damned letter!!!

I also have a friend from Y!-360 days- She has written to me and I owe her a letter...
I also owe Polly (my ex-next-door-neighbor) a letter AND a thank you card too- She'd sent me some yummy chocolate mints for Valentines Day.
Mmmmmmmm!

But for me~ my back and 'more' ~it only gets worse -and worse etc.  Apparently with my "computersaurus'" too, (but my laptop is my savior again).

Yesterday my back.  One would think that with all those shots they gave me, that I would have dropped off to 'LaLa Land ' very quickly after Casey drove me home.
Yeah right.
I was up until after 4AM.

I was woken at 9AM by a very obnoxiously hungry dog, with a very cold wet nose...
... And
I woke too, with a terrible migraine.

My back being as bad as it is I didn't make it to the toidy before I barfed. Darn good thing the garbage in the kitchen had just been brought out the night before.
(Special thanks to Casey for that- and oh, for so very much more too).

I will now
try to move my head and my back (and other various parts should they might choose to follow)...
I shall (hopefully) get a few
Zzzz's  in the lazy-boy. This now, so Punk won't have to wake me up late tomorrow just so I can feed her that darn breakfast 4 hours late.

Nighty-Night for now.
I promise to make no promises about tomorrow.    hehehe

Sweet dreams!
My love to all.

NFL- Harvin- Migraine Attack, Vikings

Vikings' Harvin has migraine attack at practice

By DAVE CAMPBELL, AP Sports Writer Dave Campbell, Ap Sports Writer
Thu Aug 19, 6:51 pm ET

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn
.

Percy Harvin experienced the scariest episode yet in a career plagued by migraine headaches when he collapsed at Minnesota Vikings' practice Thursday and was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

Coach Brad Childress left team headquarters after practice and spent the rest of the afternoon at the hospital with Harvin, who also got visits from other coaches and teammates.

"Percy appreciates everyone's concern," the coach said in a statement posted on the team website Thursday evening. "He is alert and resting comfortably, but will remain in the hospital overnight."

Harvin, who has dealt with migraines most of his life, returned to the field Monday after missing more than two weeks, but at the beginning of Thursday's workout the wide receiver experienced another episode that was scary enough for the Vikings to halt practice while their teammate received medical attention.

"To see a guy go down, it's never a good thing," defensive end Ray Edwards said. "Just pray that the Lord is with him and he gets back to us safely, and to his family most importantly."

Childress said that Harvin's episode was triggered when he looked up into a mostly cloudy sky to field a punt during a special teams drill. Harvin went inside to see team physician Dr. Sheldon Burns, then came back out to the field.

Soon after, Harvin was seen doubled over and trembling. Players and coaches stood in front of him to shield him while reporters watched from a distance as Harvin received medical attention.

"I don't know how they classify it," Childress said after practice. "Not really a seizure, but he had some trouble over here. I'd be remiss if I tried to qualify it one way or another. It seemed like he was stable."

The Vikings continued with practice for about five minutes while Harvin was being worked on, then drills were stopped. After Harvin was loaded into the ambulance, the team gathered on the field and took a knee in prayer. Players resumed their work for a few more minutes before calling practice over at least an hour early.

"It was an eye-opener," running back Adrian Peterson said. "It's been tough for him. I just encourage him the best way I can."

The ambulance did not leave immediately after Harvin was loaded, and it left without its siren or lights on. Though the situation didn't appear grave, the mood was somber.

"Obviously that one hit, and it hit hard," Childress said. "It's always scary for all of our guys when you see a teammate struggling with whatever."

Childress said that Harvin has had to go to the hospital for a migraine before, as a college star at the University of Florida.

"I've seen him with one before. I've gotten him off the field with one before. I've seen the start of one coming on before, but certainly nothing to that magnitude," Childress said.

Migraine triggers vary from person to person, but rising humidity and changes in barometric pressure can cause them, as can the glare of the sun.

Since Harvin started missing practice as a rookie last year, the Vikings have received all kinds of suggestions to treat the migraines. Harvin has sought treatment from expert after expert, but Thursday's episode was the latest example of how hard of a problem it is to solve.

"I think by this happening it kind of lets the team know exactly how hard it is," left tackle Bryant McKinnie said. "A lot of times it doesn't take place in front of us. So now by people actually seeing it, they see it's really not a joke.

"Some of us knew for real that he was really suffering from it," McKinnie said. "Maybe some other people in some of their minds they weren't sure, but I think they are aware now."

____________

Dear Mr. Childress;
He shook because he was in pain. It is enough to knock anyone to the ground.

***

But of course I am a Green Bay Packers fan(atic)- hehehe
I hope that Mr. Percy Harvin III's migraines might be controlled just enough to allow the kid to pursue his football dream.
Careers have been lost many times, and I would hate to see this happen to such a decent young man.

... and then (apparently from the idiots corner of the comments) came this- "Hey all you migriene suffer's,a sure quick cure,Put a loaded gun to area that hurts the worse, pull the dam trigger, guarntee,no more pain, works swell for bipolar probelms, tooth aches, runny nose, tearing, ear aches,"

My wish for the above (kinda stupid) commenter is that he might have one, full~blown, attack. Just one.

I have said many times that when there are people that do kill themselves- and who seemingly "had everything to live for" - when there is no reason to commit suicide, (not that there ever is), that I would lay good money on the fact that they were dealing with migraine.
Think about that before you are so callous as to be the idiot above.

Busy Feet at Kelli's

    Sneakin' Around... hehehe

Good Morning All;
It has been busy busy busy- and yet I have accomplished very little due to a raging headache since late Thursday last. Casey came out yesterday and drove me to the hospital so I could get treated.
I am better now, feeling obnoxiously tired; and being left only with this godforsaken bruise inside my head. (At least that is what it feels like).

As of last Friday, Kelli and Tim's home is DONE!
They will be moving in this coming weekend.  YAY!
I am deliriously happy for them- and they now have a summer that neither of them would soon forget.

Since I am still feeling hungover and funky from this recent headache, I will cheat this morning and just post pictures.  You will just have to come up with your own captions.
hehehe

All of Kelli's and Michelle's hard work paid off... The horses are home!

Breeze too busy to be bothered! hehehe

Back "Home Sweet Home" Again!

Now isn't that perfect!
I'd snuck over to Kelli's yesterday morning to take those last 2 pictures. I didn't want to chance waking them up, so I was quiet as a mouse. The horses were still munching their breakfast, but I wasn't going to guess on whether or not Kelli was resting.
I felt like an intruder sneaking around. hehehe
Mr. Miller 'caught' me, but assured me he would not wake anyone on my account.
hehehe
Still, after seeing that the fencer was unplugged, I did call her when I got back home. And no, I did not wake her. Her and Tim had been getting their necessary shopping lists and store trips for the day organized.

Hope all is well in your little corner of the world!
I slept good after the 2 shots at the hospital, but still need to get a few more winks. Then attend to the business of playing 'ketchup'- (Too little gets done around here when I feel so funky).

Love to all!
Hope your weekend was 'wunnaful' !

Karma- (and The Gender of the Clot)!

Full Moon...

Good Evening All;
Just 2 short things...
First of all, the very good news.
They have FINALLY arrested the man responsible for Christine Staevens murder.  (CLICK for story).

Hopefully karma will be a bitch for him.
Some of you may remember that I lived across the damned driveway from this man for more than a few years. Now I can share all those awful stories with you, without worrying about my health, home, or longevity...
?
* Also know if you click on the "murder" tag on my blogs you will see more of the whole story, and my relationship with these degenerates-

Finally, before I go to bed (and totally feel sorry for myself while I nurse my own damned raunchy head), I had an appointment today with the PM doc.
She made a few phone calls after seeing me and wrote me a referral to the hospital.
... Seems I should be worried about that blood clot in my leg?! Ya think?
I was to go there on the way home--- and for what?  For an ultrasound!
(I do not care if my clot is male or female for Pete's sake)! hehehe  And then I would wait around for them to give me yet another prescription for some more chemicals to put in my body? I don't think so!
I am tired of this all. So tired.
So I came home and broke the Cub Cadet. Yes,
I tried mowing lawns (again) today- Took a few swipes, put the 'new' belt on twice, and then the damn motor died too. (To hell with it).  I left it right where it died. It can stay there forever for all I effin' care.

I took two aspirin.
... And will see you in the morning
.    hehehe

Love to all

"Un..."

~looking into my eyes, from my own eyes.

Good Afternoon;
I know NOT how anyone can ride a roller-coaster. And especially this one...

I have accomplished zero today.
Almost as soon as I thought to become productive, the flashing lights began.
My throat is almost closed, but pouring out its slime- The stuff that makes and keeps one nauseated.
A hard way to spend a day, let alone an hour, of my life.

The homeplace looks absolutely abandoned. As I told Kristin earlier, I cringe to even look out my windows anymore. It is THAT bad.

I fell asleep much earlier- better that way, (for everyone).  hehehe

Casey called a few hours ago. Herself being ever~so ill from those damned iron infusions.
Seems as though she feels worse and worse each and every week.

These infusions play havoc with her already severely compromised insides; and it kills me even to hear that little voice sounding so weak and sickly on the phone.
Truth be known, it ANGERS me to no degree that I have ever felt anger before!
This young lady has been through so very much-  And they just keep dumping more and more and more and more ON her!
It is NOT fair.
It is unjust.
It is unreasonable.
That it is unjustified makes it even worse somehow.
JFK said it best: "
There is always inequality in life. Some men are killed in a war and some men are wounded and some men never leave the country. Life is unfair."

Hating the word "idiopathic" from the very first time they stamped her diagnosis with it.
It is still wrong. (And don't even bother to get me started on that word)!

Am thinking maybe if I get outside, even in this humidity; and maybe if the rains hold off long enough, I can still be a decent landowner and make this all 'look' a bit better.

F*ck it.  I am heading outside
"Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead."  (It is the nicest thing I can say right now).

Have a good one.
My love to all.

XOXO

Many of you have learned my own little secrets, among other stuff!.
Most of you know by now that I get some godawful migraines.
If you look closely at the picture below, this is what I see at the onset of a migraine. (Pretty close to it anyway).

5. It was because of one of these headaches that I finally drove myself to the hospital on Monday.
Having gotten the dry heaves as my head was killing me, I thought I would die as my stomach convulsed and my back threatened to remain in #10 pain forever.

I was not afraid. It was golden- Middle of the night. Punk had woken, and her movement on the bed had woken me enough to open my eyes.
She did not growl but saw it too as I watched her eyes follow that golden orb.
I have waited over 51 years to experience this for myself.
I believe!

Set forth below are a few of the most common and devastating myths surrounding Migraine, and the corresponding facts that counter such myths.

I
f you are not a Migraine sufferer, then remember the next time you offer advice to the person in your life that suffers from Migraines, make sure it's not toxic (i.e., you need to avoid stress, cheer up, don't drink Coke, or other well-meaning but emotionally debilitating statements).
Rather, offer to turn down the lights and the TV, and let them know you understand.

Hi All;
As I write, there is a wall in front of my eyes- flashing, expanding, reducing itself- but ever present... The "dots" and "stars" - my blind spots, and am trying to refresh my mind, and my body- to relax enough to go to sleep is not possible right now...  I have found a site- www.migraines.org  and it is very informative.  For the most part, I have gone through this all- and how many times...  I live like this- and yet no cure is to be found.   A 30-0-6 perhaps... The site itself has a highly informative article about migraines "myth vs reality".I have copied it for you to read.
****If you or anybody else you know and love ever gets these headaches, rest assured it is NOT all in their heads...  I thought I would share it so that these common myths can be dispelled once and for all...
I am going to try to rest anyway- a black room, a few pills and no noise, smells or touch-  Casey will bring me in tomorrow if it doesn't improve-   And when it does, I promise to try to get back to each and everyone who has written me a note-  I will try anyway-  And I will keep reading your blogs too- (soon as I can stand to keep my eyes open for more than a few minutes at a time).
Peace.
XOXO, Anne

Here is just a portion of that article-  Lengthy, but well written and informative-
Celebrities and historical figures with the Migraine disease include, among many, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Julius Caesar, Napoleon, Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, Virginia Wolfe, Lewis Carroll, Mary Todd Lincoln, Elvis Presley, Loretta Lynn, and beloved American President John F. Kennedy just to name a few.
It is important to arm yourself with the real facts and mechanics of this disease to improve your quality of life.
Once the facts are known, proper treatment can be sought by Migraineurs, both through medication and management of controllable Migraine triggers. You would be surprised how understanding your combination of trigger mechanisms will do more to reducing the number and frequency of attacks than a prophylactic drug regiment (taking multiple drugs several times a day, every day, as a preventative treatment).
MYTH: A MIGRAINE IS JUST A BAD HEADACHE.
REALITY: MIGRAINE IS A DISEASE, A HEADACHE IS ONLY A SYMPTOM. IN ADDITION, THE CAUSE OF MIGRAINE PAIN IS THE OPPOSITE OF THE CAUSE OF HEADACHE PAIN.
Migraine is disease, a headache is only a symptom. Migraine pain is caused by vasodilation in the cranial blood vessels (expansion of the blood vessels), while headache pain is caused by vasoconstriction (narrowing of the blood vessels). During a migraine, inflammation of the tissue surrounding the brain, i.e., neurogenic inflammation, exacerbates the pain. Therefore, medicine often prescribed to treat a headache, such as beta-blockers, dilate the blood vessels and therefore can make a Migraine worse.
Unlike a headache, the Migraine disease has many symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, auras (light spots), sensitivity to light and sound, numbness, difficulty in speech, and severe semihemispherical head pain. One Migraine attack alone can last for eight hours, several days, or even weeks.
Migraine is a genetically-based disease. We first learned this in the mid-90's, as it was specifically stated in correspondence with M.A.G.N.U.M. by Dr. Stephen J. Peroutka, M.D., Ph.D., President & CEO of Spectra Biomedical, Inc., a group of research physicians dedicated to understanding the genetic basis of Migraine and other illnesses, the "data are unequivocal: Migraine is a genetically-based illness. Individuals with a single parent having Migraine have approximately a 50% chance of having Migraine. This susceptibility is neither psychological nor induced by environmental causes."
The the really exciting genetic discoveries where yet to come! And it came from down under by an Australian genetic research team at Grithiths University, north of Sydney. The Millennium year was a breakthrough year for Migraineurs as the Australian team, lead by Professor Lynn Griffiths, discovered not one, not two, but three genes for Migraine disease! MAGNUM had the opportunity to interview Dr. Lyn Griffiths, one of the world's top experts on Migraines and genetics. Dr. Griffiths is the director of the Genomics Research Center at the Gold Coast campus of Griffith University, in Queensland, Australia. She told us that the research clearly shows that almost all Migraineurs have a close relative who is also a Migraineur. Migraineurs have a real ally in Dr. Griffiths as we where very impressed with her resolve for follow her research as far it goes, which just may lead us to a cure in the future.
A Migraine is induced by various controllable and uncontrollable triggers. Uncontrollable triggers include weather patterns and menstrual cycles, and controllable triggers include bright light, aspartame, and alcohol. The severity and frequency of Migraines for one person depends upon how many triggers an individual must experience before a Migraine is induced. The combination of triggers is different for each person.
MYTH: MIGRAINE IS CAUSED BY PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTORS, SUCH AS STRESS AND DEPRESSION.
REALITY: MIGRAINE IS A NEUROLOGICAL DISEASE, NOT A PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDER.
Migraine is a true organic neurological disease. A Migraine is caused when a physiological (not psychological) trigger or triggers cause vasodilatation in the cranial blood vessels, which triggers nerve endings to release chemical substances called neurotransmitters, of which the neurotransmitter serotonin (5-HTT) is an important factor in the development of Migraine.
Dr. Saper stated in his endorsement letter to M.A.G.N.U.M. that "[Migraine] is not a psychological or psychiatric disease but one which results from biological and physiological alterations." Similarly, Dr. Fred D. Sheftell, M.D., Director and Founder for the New England Center for Headache specifically stated in his letter of endorsement that "Migraine is absolutely a biologically-based disorder with the same validity as other medical disorders including hypertension, angina, asthma, epilepsy, etc. Unfortunately, there have been many myths perpetrated in regard to this disorder. The most destructive of which are 'It is all in your head,' 'You have to learn to live with it,' and 'Stress is the major cause.'"
Misdiagnosis of Migraine as a psychological disorder can lead to a doctor prescribing unnecessary, counterproductive, and even dangerous medication. It is common for a Migraineur to be diagnosed, for example, with clinical depression and prescribed unnecessary drugs, leaving the Migraines unaffected. The continued presence of the Migraines may lead the doctor to believe that the Migraineur is unable to "handle" problems and is still "depressed", leading to continued unnecessary drug treatment ... and so on.
As mentioned above, the Migraine disease is induced by various trigger mechanisms. Trigger mechanisms can be broken down into two primary categories: uncontrollable and controllable. The Migraine triggers usually work in combinations.
Remember, Migraine is a disease that involves a heightening of one's senses, all of one's senses. A Migraineur is more sensitive to his or her surroundings, including light, sound, smells, taste (chemicals in foods), and touch (including the touch of the atmospheric pressure on one's body). Awareness of one's environment is critical for a Migraineur.
A good example of an uncontrollable Migraine trigger is weather patterns. Germany, for example, offers a telephone number that people such as weather-sensitive Migraine sufferers can call to find out the risk to their health of that day's weather pattern. A recent study entitled "The Effects of Weather on the Frequency and Severity of Migraine Headaches" conducted in Canada arrived at the following conclusions: 1) "Phase 4" weather, characterized by a drop in barometric pressure, the passing of a warm front, high temperature and humidity and oftentimes rain, is closely associated with higher frequency and severity of Migraine attacks.; 2) a high humidex discomfort index during the summer is associated with an increased frequency of Migraine attacks; 3) wind from the southeast was shown to be associated with more attacks than wind from any other direction; and 4) a number of Migraine sufferers may be sensitive to extreme rates of barometric pressure changes.
Another common uncontrollable trigger is the menstrual cycle. As explained by Dr. Stephen D. Silberstein, M.D., F.A.C.P., Co-Director, The Comprehensive Headache Center at Germantown Hospital and Medical Center, Migraine usually develops around the time of the first menstrual period, called the menarche. The Migraine appears to be the result of falling levels or reduced availability of estrogen. Migraine sometimes becomes worse in the first trimester of pregnancy, but many women are Migraine-free later in their pregnancy. Menstrual Migraine is often more difficult to treat than other types of head pain. Women who have Migraines only with their period can often achieve relief by taking preventive (prophylactic) medication just before their period begins. If severe menstrual Migraine cannot be effectively controlled by any of these medications, hormonal therapy is a possibility.
Controllable triggers, on the other hand, include bright light, chemical smells, second-hand smoke, particular alcohols such as red wine and some hard alcohols such as scotch, foods that are known vasodilator such as fish, some chocolate, aged cheese, and foods which contain nitrates and/or the radical vasodilator MSG.
Therefore, if one avoids controllable triggers during Migraine-weather or menstrual cycles, one may be able to escape a Migraine attack. Another tip: take abortive medication prescribed for Migraine at the earliest sign of a Migraine attack. Oftentimes, if one waits to take the medication until the attack has matured, the medication may prove practically ineffective. The drugs commonly prescribed to Migraineurs fall into two groups: abortive and preventative (prophylactic). There are some common problems and adverse effects associated with a host of the medications. Some of the more pronounced are: from abortive drugs, dizziness from Stadol, tolerance to barbiturates, rebound headache from overuse of Ergotamine and over-the-counter non-narcotic analgesics (e.g., Tylenol, aspirin and NSAIDS); and from preventative drugs, beta-blockers and calcium channel-blockers can trigger headaches/Migraines. MYTH: MIGRAINE IS NOT LIFE THREATENING, JUST ANNOYING.
REALITY: MIGRAINE CAN BE LIFE THREATENING, INDUCING SUCH CONDITIONS AS STROKE AND COMA.
Migraine can induce a host of serious physical conditions: strokes, aneurysms, permanent visual loss, severe dental problems, coma and even death.
According to the New England Journal of Medicine, "migraine can sometimes lead to ischemic stroke and stroke can sometimes be aggravated by or associated with the development of migraine." Twenty-seven percent of all strokes suffered by persons under the age of 45 are caused by Migraine. Stroke is the third leading cause of death in this country. In addition, twenty-five percent of all incidents of cerebral infarction were associated with Migraines, according to the Mayo clinic. Most recently the British Medical Journal reported that after evaluating 14 major Migraine & stroke studies in the U.S. and Canada that Migraineurs are 2.2 times greater risk for stroke than the non-migraine population. That risk goes up to a staggering 8 times more stroke risk for women Migraineurs on the pill!
Migraine and epileptic seizure disorders are also interrelated. The most intimate interrelationship between the two being Migraine-triggered epilepsy. Migraine affects up to 15% of the epileptic population. In basic terms, Migraine and Epilepsy are both disorders characterized by paroxysmal, transient alterations of Neurologic function, usually with normal Neurologic examinations between events (attacks).
Not only can the Migraine disease be life threatening, but it can have a devastating and disruptive effect on normal living. Migraine sufferers experience not only excruciating pain, but social ostracism, job loss, disruption to personal relationships, and prejudices in the workplace.
Oftentimes people think that those with Migraines just can't handle life, or, in reality, are drug addicts or alcoholics. Such perception can be formed when, for example, people see a Migraineur wearing sun glasses indoors (photo sensitive), lying in a dark and silent room (photo and sound sensitive), making frequent trips to the rest room (nausea and vomiting), leaving early, working late, slurred speech, all what they may think is erratic behavior. According to Dr. Sheftell, "Historically, patients with the most intractable Migraines experience a downward spiral in terms of income and contributions to society at large."
Also, a recent study showed that the loss of labor time and lost productivity of Migraine sufferers may exact a significant toll on U.S. business. According to a position paper signed by the American Academy of Pain Medicine, et. al., 150 million work days per year, equivalent to 1,200 million work hours, are lost each year to head pain. The corresponding annual cost to industry and the health care system due to Migraine amounts to $5 to $17 billion.
MYTH: ANY DOCTOR WILL RECOGNIZE AND PROPERLY TREAT MIGRAINE.
REALITY: MIGRAINE IS ONE OF THE MOST MISDIAGNOSED, MISTREATED AND LEAST UNDERSTOOD DISEASES.
The fact that so many doctors don't take Migraine seriously can be as disabling to the Migraineur as the disability itself. The leading doctors in the areas of neurology and head pain have themselves stated that this disease is grossly misunderstood and misdiagnosed. In fact, 60% of women and 70% of men with Migraine have never been diagnosed with this disease. This medical ignorance and corresponding inaccurate writings unfortunately perpetuate the myths and misunderstandings about Migraine and convey this to the general public.
Dr. Saper stated that "Migraine is a serious and underestimated health problem ... Patients with Migraine are shunted along an assembly line of misdiagnosis, undertreatment, or frank mismanagement. They are subjected to unnecessary procedures and preventable consequences." And as Dr. Silberstein wrote to M.A.G.N.U.M., "Migraine sufferers must not only cope with their pain, but also with society's misunderstanding of the disorder. Migraineurs are frequently dismissed as neurotic complainers who are unable to handle stress. The truth is that they frequently battle against great odds in order to hold down jobs and support families ... Young Migraine sufferers sometimes miss enough school so that they are unable to graduate with their peers."
Similarly, Dr. Sheftell stated "In addition to misdiagnosis and under-diagnosis, Migraine sufferers will bear the brunt of discriminatory policies by a variety of health care agencies." Such agencies may deny reimbursement for emergency room visits and for hospitalizations for the most severe sufferers. It is not uncommon for doctors to think that a Migraine sufferer is in the emergency room to receive drugs, and dangerously turn them away.
Because Migraine is a genetically-based disease, severe Migraine, according to Spectra Biomedical, "will be diagnosable by objective DNA tests with in the next few years. These tests should also lead to a significant improvement in the disease management of this common and often disabling illness."
Improved health care related to the Migraine disability is one way in which M.A.G.N.U.M. is working to improve the life of Migraineurs. M.A.G.N.U.M. is working with U.S. Senator Charles Robb to include Intractable Migraine in the Code of Federal Regulations "Listing of Impairments" Parts A & B. This is an immediately achievable health care reform on which Senator John Warner (R-VA) & Congressman James Moran (D-VA) have committed to work with M.A.G.N.U.M. on.
According to the world’s leading Migraine disease epidemiologist, Dr. Richard Lipton, of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University, -- "Education and empowerment are the keys to successful Migraine management. Patients, who understand their disease, identify their triggers and learn to use both behavioral strategies and medications effectively can dramatically reduce their burden of illness." MAGNUM in working hard to continue to empower Migraineurs by keeping access to quality information about their disease ever available and current.
We are far from a cure, let alone a sure-fired treatment, for Migraine. But understanding that Migraine is a real and debilitating disease goes a long way toward improving the quality of life for Migraineurs and their loved ones.
And if you are not a Migraine sufferer, then remember the next time you offer advice to the person in your life that suffers from Migraines, make sure it's not toxic (i.e., you need to avoid stress, cheer up, don't drink Coke, or other well-meaning but emotionally debilitating statements). Rather, offer to turn down the lights and the TV, and let them know you understand.
Remember: Migraine is an "invisible" disorder. "Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin," thought Alice; "But a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever saw in all my life!" Like Alice's Cheshire-Cat who sat in a tree revealing himself only to Alice, he nonetheless had great impact on her daily travels, as Migraines do on individuals who suffer from them.

Migraines with Aura in Middle Age Associated with Late-Life Brain Lesions

Women who suffer from migraine headaches in middle age accompanied by neurological aura (visual disturbances, dizziness or numbness that can precede migraines) are more likely to have damage to brain tissue in the cerebellum later in life, according to a study by researchers at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) of the National Institutes of Health, the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and the Icelandic Heart Association in Reykjavik. Researchers noted that many people have these types of "silent" brain lesions, but their effect on physical and cognitive function in older people is not well studied.

The study appears in the June 24, 2009, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. The researchers found that women are more susceptible than men to localized brain tissue damage identified on magnetic resonance images (MRI) and that women who reported having migraines with aura were almost twice as likely to have such damage in the cerebellum as women who reported not having headaches.

Researchers noted that while the study shows an association in women between migraine and cerebellar tissue damage later in life, the functional significance of such brain changes remains an open question. The cerebellum is located in the lower back side of the brain and is involved in functions such as motor activity, balance and cognition.

"This long-term population-based study increases interest in determining whether migraine could be a risk factor for brain lesions with clinical consequences over time," said NIA Director Richard J. Hodes, M.D. "Further research should help us better understand what these changes may mean for individuals and for brain function with age."

Migraine headaches affect approximately 11 percent of adults and 5 percent of children worldwide and are more common in women than in men. Migraines are often accompanied by extreme sensitivity to light and sound, nausea and vomiting. Some individuals with migraine also experience neurological aura symptoms, including temporary visual disturbances that can appear as flashing lights, zig-zag lines or loss of vision.

This study examined migraine headaches in a community-dwelling cohort of older people. Between 1972 and 1986, when participants were middle-aged (average age 50.9), they were asked about type and frequency of headaches. MRI scans of the cortex and cerebellum brain regions were conducted on 4,600 study participants between 2002 and 2006, when participants average age was 76.2.

Participants were divided into four groups: migraine headache with aura once or more per month, migraine headache without aura, nonmigraine headache and no headache. The researchers found that overall, 17 percent of the women were classified as having migraine headaches, including 10.3 percent with migraine with aura. Only 5.7 percent of men were classified as having migraine.

Overall, MRI scans revealed the presence of any brain lesion in 39.3 percent of the men and 24.6 percent of the women. Prevalence of cerebellar lesions in women with migraine with aura was 23.0 percent vs. 14.5 percent for women not reporting headaches. There was no statistically significant difference in prevalence of these lesions in men (19.3 vs. 21.3 percent).

"After adjusting for risk factors for cardiovascular disease, transient ischemic attack or stroke in middle age or late life, we found that women who suffered from migraines with aura in middle age had an almost twofold increased risk of brain lesions in the cerebellum later in life," said Lenore Launer, Ph.D., senior author and chief of the neuroepidemiology section of the Laboratory of Epidemiology, Demography, and Biometry in the NIAs Intramural Research Program. "We are currently investigating the clinical implications of these brain lesions in this group of individuals. We are also interested in whether this association represents a cause and effect relationship or whether some other factors are responsible for the apparent association. The findings from this study are consistent with those from a previous study conducted in younger people using a similar protocol."

Participants were part of the Reykjavik Study and the Age Gene/Environment Susceptibility-Reykjavik Study (AGES-RS). Originally established to study heart disease in Iceland, the Reykjavik Study includes a random sample of men and women born between 1907 and 1935 and living in Reykjavik at the beginning of the study in 1967. In 2002, AGES-RS continued the Reykjavik Study to examine risk factors, genetic susceptibility and gene-environment interactions in relation to disease and disability in later life.

This study was funded by the National Institute on Aging, the Icelandic Heart Association and the Icelandic Parliament. Components of the study were also supported by the National Eye Institute, the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute and the Migraine Research Foundation.

I knew there is an increased risk of stroke since my migraines are (generally) preceded with the aura...
Now I have to worry about being goofy too...

XOXO

A Whole Lot of Words, and a Few Little Weeds!

  magnify
A few flowers for your Tuesday...

"Poppies... Poppies... Poppies!"
.
.
Good Morning All;
I know it is Tuesday, but ten thoughts? That seems either too limiting, or too much today.
(Not sure which yet)...

My migraine has passed for a few days already; and I almost feel human! As they say: "At first I was afraid I was going to die; then I was afraid that I wasn't."

Brain boil now... I can't seem to gather a coherent thought for some time. Perhaps the back that 'gets' me with my body and arms in this position, or whatever.
Know I am tired of it.
Casey and I seem to have the same affliction; only she writes right through it! And does a 'wunnaful' job I might add... Most of you already know that she "broke her record" of not visiting the ER. She has blogged about it.
Click for her blog.

I believe I am going to try to type right through it too. (Wish me luck)! hehehe

I am sad as I watch my yard, my garden and all fall to weeds and whatnot. There is some "whatnot" that has come up that I don't even know what it is- Maybe one or two of you can help?

.
.
Cnv0340
The poppy I know.
"Poppies... Poppies... Poppies!"
The weeds I know too
But what are the little purple flowers
that are growing where once my Danver carrots thrived?

.
.
Another little weed here...
.
.
Cnv0289
Baby Sam!
He crawls, even walks with help, and is 11 months old.
Daddy Chuck sent these pictures via his camera phone.
Thank you Daddy~Chuck!

.
.
As you may/may not know, Roberta has also lost custody of Sam-
Gabriel is in foster care His foster parents really wanting to adopt him, (but so darn much red tape).
I pray it will go through for them, mostly for Master Gabriel to have a whole family, and to never worry about if Mama loves him...
.
.
Cnv0288
Little Sam with Grandpa!
Growing like a weed, wouldn't you say?!

.
.
And I have one more weed too!

Many people do not realize the value of the milkweed. (Aka Joe Pye). As these come up in Spring I always save a few plants for the Monarchs.
Jenne found one the other day, barely bigger than picture wire-
In just 2 days it has quadrupled its size, and is heading for its snack in this shot...
.
.
Cnv0347
.
.
Since I have been unable to even weed whack, the weeds by the pumphouse and old calf pen are growing slipshod all over.

They are now tall enough to hide a small dog.

.
.
Cnv0346
So maybe she is a large dog...
hehehe
.
.
Silly dog "grazes" too...
.
.
Cnv0337
But gets miffed when she gets caught...
Lucky for me, she does not regurgitate the grass!
.
.
Kelli and Tim have a new pup-
A kind of rescue dog, as she lived with hardly any fun, and very little food. (I believe that most of what she got, she found herself).
Sad, that.
.
.
Cnv0298
.
.
She is about 9 months old-
A chocolate lab, (and I think she may have a bit of 'pit' in her too).
Kelli said she reminds her much of my Miss Milly- In that she is still so full of sweetness even though her past might not have been so kind.

As a side, Mr. Miller is getting much more exercise too!
.
.
Cnv0295

Kelli brought him along when she came to help get my window A/C in

.
.
Thank you so much my sweet KelliBaby! It is quite livable in here!
.
.
Cnv0294
.
.
They (our infamous weather people), claim we could be in the 90's today...

Um. Wait...
/
"Could?"

.
.
Cnv0297
.
.
Yes, the thermometer is on the north side of the house-
(Yes, I took that picture in the afternoon).

My lawns need mowing- I assure you that is NOT going to happen today. My shaggy grass will just have to wait a few more days. Too bad. hehehe

.
.
Cnv0300
Somebody oughta slap a pool there, don't you think?
.
.
Oh -wait again...
Somebody did slap a pool there!
.
.
Cnv0301
.
.
OK- So we had to get a liner for under it too.
The little instruction book claimed that the pool will kill the grass under it.

What? You didn't hear me say "too bad" already? hehehe

Before H2O, Jennifer inflated the top ring...
.
.
Cnv0302
A minor leak in the ring...
(Will just have to start chewing gum)?!
.
.
Meanwhile, Casey worked on the pump aspect...
.
.
Cnv0304
.
.
And Miss Punk watched from the 'safety' of the shade...

.
.
Cnv0303

(She hates any kind of plastic "scritching" noise)...

.
.
Still, all hell broke loose when the hose was brought out...

Seems these young 'uns didn't care one whit that the temp of my well water is 42° year 'round.
.
.
Cnv0306

Nor did it matter that there were only a few inches of water at that point.
.
.

.
Cnv0319
.
.
She will be needing her own little kids pool-
(Even chewing gum won't help her paws~n~claws)!
.
.
Cnv0311
But until then, we will just take our chances.
.

.
.
Cnv0324
Dog with TWO tails???
And NO head?!?!
.
.
.
Cnv0305

Jenne might have told me where the camera should go...
hehehe

.

.
Cnv0316

Punk didn't care where the camera was...

.
.
About a total of 4 hours of water. The lady down in Appleton where we got the pool said it took them a day and a half to get it full. (All I can say is that Appleton water must have low low pressure)...
Another 4-6 hours, this baby would be completely filled. Not sure if we will do that or not-
.
.
Cnv0334
.

I am thinking this will be more than deep enough for a 4 year old.
I do not wish to take any chances.

.
.
Kelli stopped by to see the progress too.
.

.
Cnv0331
.
.
...And Punk was p*ssed she couldn't go in yesterday.
.
.
Cnv0341
.
.

And Sputty?

Methinks Sputnik is terrified that someone might throw him in too!

hehehe
.
.
Cnv0351
As he was taken to hiding under an old chair last night...
.
.
So you see, not is all sad- Just my yard, my garden, & my weeds.
...And if I keep my eyes closed outside, then all will be well. (I think)?

Hope all is well in your little corner of the world!

Stay safe. Stay cool!

Love to all!

XOXO
Me
