Getting tuned up for Memorial Day-

...   from my email. Thank you Ms. Bif!

The Marine Corps Sergeant - as Teacher

A former Sergeant, having served his time with the Marine Corps, took a new job as a school teacher, but just before the school year started he injured his
back.

He was required to wear a plaster cast around the upper part of his body. Fortunately, the cast fit under his shirt and wasn't noticeable.
On the first day of class, he found himself assigned to the toughest students in the school.

The smart-aleck punks, having already heard the new teacher was a former Marine, were leery of him and decided to see how tough he really was, before trying any pranks.
Walking confidently into the rowdy classroom, the new teacher opened the window wide and sat down at his desk.

When a strong breeze made his tie flap, he picked up a stapler and promptly stapled the tie to his chest.

Dead silence...
... He had no trouble with discipline the whole year.

"THANK YOU to Our Navy SEALS!"

*
Including a very special THANK YOU to our REMARKABLE Commander~in~Chief!

As I had replied to another blog-
Stephen had wondered about what our own "celebrations" must have looked like to the rest of the world.
I had replied:

" This was not the entire Arab World Steve.
Just the same, *they* must realize that not everyone here is doing that celebrating.
Did I???
Oh you betcha- and I even made a few phone calls to people who had been there- and fighting for us all, ({Just} so we can have [this] right in the 1st place).
HUGE difference between us and al Qaeda...
I agree that it won't be seen that way across the miles and across the seas and the religious faithful.
Still al Qaeda has been knocked down a notch or three -and that is very important to this little card game.
I think it says more about the American within us (U.S.) if we aren't touched deeply by these brave Navy SEALS that carried out their orders to the *T*.God Bless them all; and God bless our commander in chief who finally had the backbone to say to hell with the masses if it fails. We tried.

Difference between he and *W* -is that President Obama had the gonads to lose big on this one."
 -end quote-

Come to think of it, I guess "W" would have lost a HUGE investment in his foreign oil. hehehe

Money being the root of all evil- (GW's roots go very, very, deep in the Middle East; deeper than their oil wells my friends).

A reminder for anyone who may be caught unawares, to reflect upon or to remind you-
*** Not all of the al Qaeda are Arabs; not all Arabs are al Qaeda.

As our President, Barack Hussein Obama
stated, possibly begging to remind us-
*** "We are NOT at war with ISLAM."

  - - - - "bin Laden killed tens of thousands of Muslims"-
*** Usama bin Laden is NOT the face of the Muslim.

bin Laden is/WAS but one mere ugly face of militant, religious extremism; and of the wretched terrorism that he endeavored to harden us all toward our neighbors and our friends.
You remember the ones you had prior to 9/11... ?
  1. Those peaceful and law~abiding citizens who happened to be (and still are), the REAL Muslims; (those of whom are 99.9999% real Muslims).
  2. Those who have chosen to love and to spread their religion with peace,  to live peaceably by/for their own bible, the Qu'ran. (See also al-Qur'an, Koran, Book).

You remember those people that have done NOTHING AT ALL to receive your hatred and intolerance, don't you?

But you hate them anyway?
You are afraid of them anyway?
That makes you a bigot.

"WRONG IS..."

Religious bigots?

Check yourself first; then check out those at your own church on Friday night- or Saturday- or Sunday- (or [m]any of your 'holy' days of obligation/celebration)-

*** If you don't "LIVE" it, you are not "it"    Get it now?

Religious Extremist? ......     Militant Extremist?

IMG_Kimber
stolen from Google search.

"WRONG IS... WHAT exactly?"
As you may guess, this has been a topic of much discussion between Casey and I for a very long time- It has been especially spoken of these past few days. We have agreed with each other 100% of the time. (And no, neither of us are ever 'afwaid' to disagree along the way).
We do agree on the most significant ideals too; the most important of late being:
We cannot and WILL NOT put up with, condone, any religious intolerance.

We also agreed that we should ask y'all about this:
  • Does it make hatred and discrimination okay as long as the person doing it is of your "approved" religion?

IMHO, it should NOT matter who's doing it.
Like we've said many times before, WRONG IS WRONG IS WRONG IS WRONG...

GOD BLESS THE USA
Artist: Lee Greenwood
Song:

"Proud To Be An American"

If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin' here today.
‘ Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.

That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

And I’m proud to be and American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘ Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,

God bless the U.S.A..
-Stolen from here.

Very kind & merciful of Mr. Greenwood to NOT specify which God, don't you think?
Beside those "The Three R's", it is all we ever need to teach our children.

If only so they may teach their children as well as we have taught them...
(Or has George Taylor already dropped to his knees and pounded our sacred sand)?

My love to all.

Old Bikes; and Worn Out Boots

From my email this morning.
(Thank you Duane)

________________________________________________

Their old bikes, worn out boots, leathers, old jeans and leathered faces,~ tells us all they have ridden far and seen many places.

You see them riding in small packs but many times alone,~ the loner is the one that knows the ropes and brotherhood to the bone.

The gray in their hair and the white in their beard,~ tells you right off they have been there and done that, nothing ever feared.

They have been there and done that and still very much alive,~ so give them respect and to be their friend you must strive.

They take care of their friends and always their own,~ they can teach you things about life and REAL you have never known.

They are quiet and at the bars mostly sit alone,~ because their old brothers and lifestyle are almost gone.

Like old brothers their lady's are loyal real and to them totally bound,~ if they were not they sure as hell wouldn't be around.

Many are vets from a place call Vietnam,~ where they fought a meaningless war for you and Uncle Sam.

Like the dinosaurs of old the old bikers will go down,~ and when the last one falls only those that know will hear the sound.

To all you young rider wannabes and prospects I give this toast,~ ride on brother for beside you rides an "Old Bikers" Ghost.

We ride down life's lonesome highway and just around the bend,~ stands the golden gates to glory right at it's end.

At these gates a hooded cloaked brother stands as their keeper,~ he's the last brother you meet "THE GRIM REAPER".

He waves you through his scythe held high,~ "welcome brother your lifestyle here will never die".

So to all you preppy wannabe's prospects and all that ride,~ find you an "Old Biker" and from him learn -by his teachings abide.

Some day down life's highway as you ride an "Old Biker" riding all alone,~ a cold breeze will hit you and chill you to the bone.

Glance over brother you may see me after I'm gone riding there,~ your guardian angel "Old Biker" grinning with the wind in my hair.

The "Old Biker" that taught you the real way,~ will ride beside you till your last day.

Ride on brothers the gates to glory are just ahead, ~ all your brothers are here and your style's not dead
.

A Supermarket of Veterans Benefits for ALL Vets and Their Families

http://www.veteransbenefits.us/index2.htm

Also see: http://www.veteransbenefits.us/index2.htm

Hundreds of thousands of veterans, and those returning from war are potentially missing out on disability and other benefits.

The Supermarket of Veterans Benefits (SVB), was conceived to celebrate America’s most important heroes, the veterans, and meet their specific benefit needs. SVB’s awareness campaign is targeted to the over 26,000,000 U.S. veterans throughout the world. SVB attracts thousands of veterans, their family members, and general attendees, providing veterans the opportunity to learn more about veteran’s services and benefits they so richly deserve! In many cases, veterans are not receiving the benefits that are created and designed for them. The 2005 President's budget for Department of Veteran's Affairs provides approximately $67.7 billion for veteran's benefits and services. The SVB:

* Provides information and benefits for veterans, their families, and friends during a free one day fair set in a "one-stop-shop" festival atmosphere
* Provides every veteran with benefits information & claims initiation leading to potential compensation, pension, and other service issues

Weekend Synopsis (A Short One).

.
.
.
Good Evening...
I woke this morning to say and extra prayer and offer thanks to my very special godson Sean. (But I still refuse to call Memorial Day "happy"). I do hope you have taken a moment to offer thanks and prayers to our military, past and present.

A fantastic and wonderful Sunday!
Between yesterday and today I have taken over 150 pictures. (And so, I will just have to blog about it all later).

As you know, I mowed lawn 2 days ago- I had to cut with the blades to highest level just to be able to knock it down. Today I went over it- Had to or I would be right back where I started on Saturday.
It is to rain for the next 2 days. My grass seems to thrive either way.

After that I planted some shit.
I have a feeling that I have set myself back about 3 weeks with respect to my back.
I have just taken some meds for my back. And I am sitting right here until they kick in. With God as my witness I don't care if the phone rings, or the doorbell, or anything else happens.
I refuse to move an unnecessary muscle, as they all seem to be connected to my back somehow.
Casey says I can't sleep here.   hehehe

Hope all is well with everyone- Drop me a comment here and let me know what you all did this weekend.

XOXO

Defense Department Launches Real Warriors Campaign

http://www.health.mil/Press/Release.aspx?ID=713
Thursday, May 21, 2009
By Jim Garamone | American Forces Press Service

Josh Hopper looks like he would win battles against an NFL lineman.

The Marine sergeant obviously is a body builder. His shoulders are broad, and his arms stretch the fabric of his uniform.

The sergeant looks like a winner, but there was a battle he couldn't win without help—that against post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Now, Hopper is fighting another battle: to get service members with PTSD to reach out and get help, as he did.

Hopper is part of the Defense Department's new "Real Warriors" campaign.

"Real Warriors is a program aimed at wiping out the stigma associated with getting mental health care in the military," said Army Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Loree Sutton. "We want people to seek help the same way they would if they had a physical wound." Sutton is a psychiatrist who heads the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury.

The Real Warriors campaign centers on the stories of warriors who admitted they needed help and now are pursuing successful military careers.

Hopper is one of those warriors. The sergeant served three tours in Iraq in 2003, 2005 and 2006. He is married and has two children, and he's assigned to Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station, N.C. The intelligence specialist received the Purple Heart Medal after a roadside-bomb strike in Anbar province and participated in numerous fire fights. The accumulated stresses of Hopper's time in Iraq led to post-traumatic stress disorder.

"When I first got back, I was on that 'welcome home' high," Hopper said in a recent interview. But after that, he found that he was having problems sleeping, and he was concentrating on the negative aspects of his deployments.

"My big thing was outbursts and mood swings," he said. "I had a bad, bad temper that didn't take much to get me there. I used alcohol as a way to comfort everything, and that was big-time out of the norm for me."

He tried to hide the symptoms, but those closest to him knew. "My wife, parents, in-laws, they all knew I was having problems," Hopper said. He was having trouble relating to his family, and it also affected his work.

He was receiving an award for his service in Iraq from his battalion commander when the symptoms burst into the open.

"When I received the award, I replayed what happened that day," he said. "I sort of got into another world. I started shaking, got the cold sweats – everything. That's when my commander sat me down and offered help."

Asking for help went against Hopper's preconceived notions of what a warrior would do. "You are supposed to be the tough guy or the tough gal," Hopper said. "You say to yourself, 'I signed up to do this. I can't need help.'"

The toughest part was swallowing his pride. "I went [to Iraq], I did it, and when I came back, it was bothering me," he said. "Saying I need help was the toughest thing."

He first went for treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center here. But specialists there realized quickly that he needed more intensive care.

"The place that really changed my life was at the Martinsburg, W.V., [Veterans Affairs] Hospital," Hopper said. "I was lucky enough to get the help I needed there."

The center at Martinsburg tailored his treatment. He lived with Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan vets. "We bonded pretty quickly," he said. "Here were people – especially the Vietnam vets – who knew what we were going through."

There were group sessions and one-on-one sessions with specialists. "I did a complete 180 there," Hopper said. "When I got back [to Lejeune], everybody noticed the difference."

When he returned to North Carolina, Hopper's unit was deployed to Iraq, so he went temporarily to a new unit. "They all knew where I had been, but everyone was great to me," he said. "They didn't tiptoe around me as if I were some crazy guy. They treated me like any other new Marine to the unit."

Hopper was on the tarmac to welcome his friends back from Iraq. "I thanked the commander for all he had done for me," he said. "I told him, 'I know I'm just a sergeant and you're a lieutenant colonel, but if there is anything I can do to repay you for what you did for me and my family, I'll do it.'

"And he told me, 'There are a lot of people who are coming back from these wars that are going to be in the same shoes you were, and you'll recognize what they are going through. All I ask is that you pay it forward. If you can help one person, you've paid me back,'" the sergeant recalled.

Hopper said his participation in the Real Warrior campaign is one way to fulfill that duty. "If someone sees a big guy like me swallow his pride and get help," he said, "then why can't they do it?"

Rules for the Non-Military

From my email...

Dear Civilians,
'We know that the current state of affairs in our great nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military.

For those of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand.

Here are a few of the areas where we would like your assistance:

1.  The next time you see any adults talking (or wearing a hat) during the playing of the National Anthem - kick their ass.

2. When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag in protest - kick their ass.

3.  Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise,
quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the very freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many
sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great.  Then hold them down while a disabled veteran kicks their ass.

4.  If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were. Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDUs) or Jungle Fatigues, telling others
that you used to be 'Special Forces, Collecting GI Joe memorabilia, might have been okay when you were seven years old. Now, it will only make you look stupid and get your ass kicked.

5.  Next time you come across an *Air Force* member, do not ask them, 'Do you fly a jet?' Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Such ignorance deserves an ass-kicking, (children under 11 are exempt).

6.  If you witness someone calling the US Coast Guard 'non-military', inform them of their mistake - and kick their ass..

7.  Next time Old Glory (the US flag) prances by during a parade, get on your damn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your
heart. Quietly thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her - of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a severe ass-kicking.

8.  Don't try to discuss politics with a military member or a veteran.  We are Americans, and we all bleed the same, regardless of our party
affiliation.  Our Chain of Command is to include our Commander-In-Chief (CinC).  The President (for those who didn't know) is our CinC.

Regardless of political party. We have no inside track on what happens inside those big important buildings where all those representatives meet.
All we know is that when those civilian  representatives screw up the situation, they call upon the military to go straighten it out.

If you keep asking us the same stupid questions repeatedly, you will get your ass kicked.

Free Clipart

9.  'Your mama wears combat boots' never made sense to me - stop saying it!  If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore could kick your ass!

10. Bin Laden and the Taliban are not Communists, so stop saying 'Let's go kill those Commies!'
And stop asking us where he is! Crystal balls are not standard issue in the military.
That reminds me- if you see anyone calling those damn psychic phone numbers, let me know, so I can go kick their ass!

11. 'Flyboy' (*Air Force*), 'Jarhead' (*Marines*),'Grunt' (*Army*), 'Squid' (*Navy*), 'Puddle Jumpers' (*Coast Guard*), etc., are terms of endearment we use describing each other.
Unless you are a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them.  Using them could get your ass kicked.

12.  Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen far from home wishing they could be with their families.

Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our country would get it's ass kicked.

And so I have used the title entry from my July 4th post- But I do think that it is appropo for this email I received from Duane this morning... And it is also MORE than appropriate with respect to what happened in the UK yesterday- And we will never know exactly how many lives were saved- How many disaster have been averted...

Credit where credit us due: Thank you Tony Blair for being proactive enough, and for having enough chutzpah to integrate all these ideals to spare the lives of our friends, family members, copatriots and compadres ... To have under your direction- (and with our blessings), people with more than half a brain; and that KNOW how to use it too...

As many of you already know I am both very deeply Christian, and exceedingly patriotic too- Having lived through the entire Vietnam War, and era; and seeing images and names flashed on the old black and white televison set in my younger days... I haven't forgotten...

I am sorry that this bloody "conflict" in Iraq is ongoing, but like the song says, we must all stand together...

God Bless America...

And grow up for Gods sakes, when you hear the National Anthem...

REMOVE ANY NON-MILITARY ISSUE HEADGEAR.

  • STAND UP.
  • SHUT UP.
  • PUT YOUR RIGHT HAND OVER YOUR HEART- OR
  • SALUTE YOUR FLAG.
  • KNOW THE WORDS-
  • (and try to learn WHY they were written)...
  • SHOW RESPECT FOR THE FLAG-
  • FOR OUR VETERANS...
  • AND PRAY FOR THOSE WHO ARE SERVING US
  • and PRESERVING OUR FREEDOMS
  • AS WE SIT HOME AND WRITE/READ/THINK/PRAY...

XOXO,
Anne

Memorial Day 2007

G'Morning Friends...

Please...

If you are going to be going to any parades etc...

.

Remove your hats.
Celebrate the flag.
Honor your veterans by getting up off your arses to see them pass.
Salute.
Cheer.
Cry.
Remember always...
And teach your children what Memorial Day is truly about...
Do anything but gather candy.
.
.
.
.
.
I believe the following was written by Danielle Steel...

Just a few words for thought is all; not only for Vietnam, but for all who went before, who are there still, and all who are fighting now to keep us all safe... somehow.

And for all of those who are left only to relive this time and again; in their own minds, their own way, their own war with themselves... Believe only, They ARE in our own world.

.

.

.

THE BOYS WHO FOUGHT IN NAM
Passed hand to hand,
the wishes,
the dreams,
the hopes of an entire generation...
An entire nation,
sent to war.
A score of old men,
leading our boys to die
while we watched in horror
in pain...
...and in disbelief
that we had to lose
so many of our boys...
Thier toys barely left behind.
Their eyes so young,
so bright
and so full of hope.
The fight so long,
so sad.
The pain so bad.
The wounds so deep.
Until at last
our young men sleep
in their Makers arms again.
Their names...
...carved in stone.
never to come home;
never to touch our tears again
Lest we forget...
Lest we grow old...
Our hearts must never be so cold.
We must run and hide.
We must remember...
...them...
...The boys who died.
Let it not be in vain.
Let us not forget the pain
the cries,
the agonies,
the braveries,
the heroes
and the smiles
The time that was
so long ago,
across so many miles...
In a land so bright
so green
Caught in a place
just inbetween
hope and lies
We must remember still.
We must promise that
we will always touch their hearts
While we still can
REMEMBER FRIENDS...
The boys who died,
who lived,
who cried...
...
...
...
These Boys Who Fought in Nam

Today, Casey and Richard Michael

"The time has come" the walrus said...

But first of all, the update on My Little Miss Casey. She stayed in town for the evening, having called the last time about 9 or so, and in intense pain once again. (This from a glass of water).

She is at Dereks house; much closer to the hospitals there.

I know that many of you have closely followed all of Caseys progress last year, (and beyond). ...From the hospitals in Green Bay to Milwaukee Childrens Hospital, to Froedtert Hospital, back to Green Bay etc etc etc.

I have lost accurate count, but I believe her surgeries number eight or nine in the past 2 or 3 years... She seems to have gotten the very same pain yesterday that she had a year ago. She was hospitalized last Spring for a long time at Easter; with acute pancreatitis.

Still idiopathic, with respect to "why"; but last year she was told already that she has the pancreas of a sixty year old man who has been drinking heavily for 40 of those years. (WTF)?

And so, time will tell how she fares for the next few days. She has another appointment this morning. I will keep you informed as I am able to. Please keep her in your hearts, your thoughts and your prayers.

As for the picture above? hehehe

Hmmmm....

(I am thinking that this blog will not only pass time, but will be very informative to most of you)...

****Several of you have emailed me asking who "Grandpa Rick" is to Master Gabriel?

...And just so you know, it really would have been alright to ask within the comments section as I have no secrets from my family; (but I do thank you for your discretion too).

To say I have a confession would be whole~heartedly wrong, for it would imply that I also do some staged act of contrition. To then have to apologize would somehow negate a very large part of my heart and soul, and my family. Quite simply put, I will not EVER do that.

In simpler terms, Richard is Robertas father.

I had to cut Zoe out of the picture here, but we were all laughing at her antics that night, (or so my mother had written on the back of the photo)...

.
.
Well, you get the picture... Do you see the "measure of the man" as it reflects within his eyes?
.
.
.
.
.
...
Gabriel and Lawrence too, will be wise and good men; they already have the eyes for it!
.
.
.

Richard is a good man.

A very kind and gentle man; thrown into the midst of the godless Vietnam War at the tender age of 17.

...He came home very changed man; almost severe in his convictions, yet deep inside still the 17 year old kid wanting not yet to have all those cruel memories of war.

I know that there are too many Vietnam Veterans who personify my Richard; mentally, physically and emotionally.

I have known them.

I have loved but one; (and somewhere inside I still do).

I further believe that the most tender giants took the hardest hits there.

As a result Rick is an alcoholic. As a result of that, we cannot be together, as I could not bear to have to watch him die. He worked very hard to overcome, and to be able to be with us, And he was clean and sober until...

And so, that should answer most of your questions for "today"... I have already spoken to Casey, and she still has terrible pain... and it is a good thing that we have that appointment this morning.

I think I need to regroup a bit now...

Have a kind and gentle Wednesday...

XOXO
Anne

Before anyone presume to judge myself or Richard.I was separated, (and more than estranged), from my very cruel husband when Roberta Marie was conceived...

Well I see him on the TV
Preachin' 'bout the promised land
He tells me to believe in Jesus
And steals the money from my hand
Some say he was a good man
But Lord I think he sinned

Twenty-two years of mental tears
Cries a suicidal Vietnam vet
Who fought a losing war on a foreign shore
To find his country did not want him back
Their bullets took his best friend in Saigon
Our lawyers took his wife, his kids no regrets
In a time I don't remember
In a war he can't forget

He cries forgive me for what I've done there
Forgive me for the things I did
And give me something to believe in
If there's a Lord above
And give me something to believe in
Oh, Lord arise

My best friend died a lonely man
In some Palm Springs hotel room
I got the call last Christmas Eve
And they told me the news

I tried all night not to break down and cry
As the tears rolled down my face
I felt so cold and empty
Like a lost soul out of place

And the mirror, mirror on the wall
Sees my smile, it fades again
And give me something to believe in
If there's a Lord above

And give me something to believe in
Oh, Lord arise
Sometimes I wish to God I didn't know now
Things I didn't know then
Road you got to take me home
I drive by the homeless sleeping on a cold dark street
Like bodies in an open grave
Underneath an old broken down neon sign, used to read JESUS SAVES

A mile away lived the rich folk
And I see how they're living it up
While the poor they eat from hand to mouth
The rich drink from the golden cup

And it just makes me wonder why so many lose while so few win
And give me something to believe in

If there's a Lord above
And give me something to believe in
Oh, Lord arise
And give me something to believe in
If there's a Lord above
And give me something to believe in
Oh, Lord arise
And give me something to believe in
If there's a Lord above
And give me something to believe in
Oh, Lord arise

You take the high road and I'll take the low road
And give me something to believe in
If there's a Lord above
And give me something to believe in
Oh, Lord arise
You take the high road and I'll take the low road
And give me something to believe in
If there's a Lord above
And give me something to believe in
Oh, Lord arise
You take the high road and I'll take the low road
And give me something to believe in
If there's a Lord above
And give me something to believe in
Oh, Lord arise
Sometimes I wish to God I didn't know now
Things I didn't know then
And give me something to believe in
