Good Morning.
(Is it)?
I am chilled today... It is so sunny out, but looks are deceiving. I've been out to feed the birds, my cardinal making such a fuss at Punk when I'd let her out earlier. (Those birds may be pretty, but none too bright to be thinking that Punk might be able to refill that feeder)! Dumb clucks.
Mom would call a few people that, and I have to giggle every time I think on it.

It was Mama's birthday on the 7th.
(To read about my mama, CLICK HERE).
She would have been 93 had she lived...

Reianna's birthday was on the 10th.
(To read about my Reianna, CLICK HERE).
So very hard to believe that she would have been 30 this year!

You will have to scroll down after you click those links since "Reianna", "Mom" and "Methadone" are all included in the tags on this blog.

Also included in Reianna's CLICK is the information about METHADONE.
***If you or anyone else you know is prescribed this drug for pain, or withdrawal, please DO NOT TAKE IT!

Doctors are still prescribing it.
People are still dying.
Please get the word out.

"According to the National Center for Health Statistics, medical examiners listed methadone as contributing to 3,849 deaths in 2004; up from 790 in 1999."
From here- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methadone

Methadone is also prescribed as
 • Symoron,
 • Dolophine,
 • Amidone,
 • Methadose,
 • Physeptone,
 • Heptadon
 • -and many others

The links above should work for you. If they don't please let me know.
Sometimes I really I wish we wouldn't have had to migrate all of our old Y!360 blogs to Multiply- Hard to find them all, and equally difficult to link them appropriately too. (Maybe that's just me)?

And now on Multiply, without many comments! hehehe The original ones at Yahell 360 had many of your comments, NOT that I can even get to them anymore.

Anyway...

... My top picture??? (Stolen from here).

As many of you have already read on my calendar on Multiply, Casey and I will be returning to Minneapolis once again.
This visit, to "see" what is going on within her colon.

Dr. Sutherland believes that he will have to remove 70% of her colon.
When I asked, he said she would not need the colostomy bag at all.
It would be a surgery to get rid of the hairpin turns in her colon.
Ideally, he would rather wait for 6 months after her TP/AIT, which would bring possible surgery to June or July. We wait now, anxiously, to have the upcoming test results.

I don't know how to wrap my head around her pain some days? Or how to help her anymore. Kind of a horrible and impotent feeling. Wish it was me.

In awful pain, now with vomiting and more diarrhea, and on her doctors advice, I brought Casey to St Marys hospital again on Tuesday.

They were going to admit her, and then did not. wth?

She has blogged about it herself. CLICK HERE to read her own frustrations of it all. (Oh, but do grab a cup of coffee before you do, she has written at length). I don't know where she gets that from!?

She put on a very good and happy face for her appointment for Social Security Disability yesterday. (Not sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing)? But the man was nice, (even a sense of humor thrown in), and I hope smart enough that he saw through what/how she has lived these past three years.

I don't know much, but I do know that "something has gotta give" as they say.
Maybe say a little prayer?

 • Thanks to all the garbage at UWGB, at this point she has almost given up her own little hopes for college.

 • Remember the nasty apartment hunting, and how she was treated? <-Click those words for those two entries.

 • She has lost every job she has had in the past 3 years, save for the tax one (that was temporary; they did not call her back this past year either- Not that she could have worked). One waited to fire her after she returned from surgery. The other 2 "let her go" while she was hospitalized!

Like I said, something has just got to give for her.
It all seems to keep "snowballing"...

So there's my rant for today. Not too much newsworthy.
Cold or not I really have to get outside and work off some of this "grrr" energy.

Love to all.

XOXO
Anne

PS
My title? I don't believe I have EVER used the word "groovy" in a blog before.
Have YOU?

Garbage Day; And Other Stuff!

Good Morning All;

First things first.
Having had Miss Thers come through her surgery yesterday with great relief from her pain, is such a good thing.
Please >CLICK HERE< to wish her a speedy recovery.

And now ~about the topmost picture...

As I rolled the dumpster to the end of the driveway early this morning, I had to chuckle to myself. Dressed in my silk pajamas, tennis shoes, and a jacket, I suddenly knew how Mom felt when she had to take the little bucket to the outhouse each morning. No matter how she varied her schedule, someone always seemed to drive by and see her making her way to the outhouse.

This, back when our road was NOT a county road, nor was there blacktop on it either.

This, back when a body "knew" every car that went by.

I used to laugh at her embarassment at getting caught.
After all, wasn't she doing exactly what every other family had to do every morning???
Or was her slop 'special' somehow?

I never did get those answers.
But I do know that this is one of the reasons all those trees were planted across the front of the property. She called them a "windbreak", (and they are excellent at being defined as such), but they were also meant to be grand at hiding her little walk to the outhouse every morning.
...That is, if Pa hadn't put in an indoor bathroom before those trees offered any protection.
hehehe

And so, many times prior to the upscale (mid~1950's), indoor plumbing we had, Mama would get caught with her little pail...

.

I actually DO have her original pail in the basement.
This picture stolen from here though...
.

.

.

.

Like the photo above, ours was also a 2~Seater.

And I am thinking that in those days there was much less of the 'Gee, I can't pee if you are within earshot'... Or, 'I can't use public restrooms'
(Or any other of those excuses that we hear so often today).
hehehe
I am also thinking that the only thing missing from this picture is the Sears and Roebuck catalog!!!

That same 2~Seater was exactly what the Northeastern Wisconsin Beagle Club was looking for when they came one day and made an offer to buy the old outhouse from my dad. Not too far away, the Northeast Kennel Club wanted a 'double' (just in case)...

Pa agreed to sell our outhouse. (I think Mama was happiest to see it go)!

I can actually remember sneaking in there when I was either too lazy, or too dirty, to "go" inside! We had to take off our shoes/boots (whatever) whenever we went inside. (Pa didn't have to though... just us kids)...

Wheeling my little dumpster down the gravel driveway this morning, and making enough noise to wake the dead, I had this odd feeling of being watched.
That feeling made me think of Mama and her little pot... I set the dumpster as close to the road as possible, saw headlights, and hid in the trees until it was 'safe' to gather yesterdays mail. I made the mad dash across the road when there were no vehicles coming from either direction.
Since it was still very dark, east there is a big curve, and west is Ryans Hill, I can easily see when/if there is anyone coming to catch me in my jammies.
...Then a "mad~dash" back up the driveway to the safety and warmth of the house...
(OK, so it is still a bit of a gimpy run, but it is getting much better).

And I wonder why I had felt so paranoid this morning?
Still do...

No frost this morning... It is 42 degrees but not to stay that 'warm' for long.

Casey and I did some major cleaning yesterday of the shed and garages to accomodate all the things that must be brought in for winter. Even my bike is stored for now. Ah well... My godmother stopped in for a while too. So good to see her! (And what a nice little break from our chores as well)... Always fun to get 'caught up' on each others children and grandchildren!

Winter is inevitable.

Quite like death and taxes... hehehe

Have a WUNNAFUL Wednesday!!!!

Love to all!

XOXO

Sidnaw, Michigan

Good Morning All!

I have found a few more pictures from times past in Sidnaw, Michigan.

For my newfound friends in lower Michigan and in Germany too. I hope they will kindly add their own thoughts and ideas and memories too...

This is a picture of my mothers homeplace in Upper Michigan.

.

.

Picture is dated 1948,
you can still see how they lived.

.

.

The following picture to show the lay of the land on their farm. The house being toward the top on the right...

.

This is my grandfather, (Franciscus Corneel ~Cornell~ VandenPlas), with my Aunt Loretta (Mrs. Harry Worden).

.

.

After leaving the old homestead, my grandfather built the little cottage in the background here; and lived there until he was no longer able to care for himself. They found him one January with a frozen shoulder; and in the company of another man who had sought refuge for the winter. Very little heat~ Not enough food for sustenance. They were both taken from there, but I am not sure of the year;(in the mid~1950's).

.

.

Sidnaw, Michigan; picture is dated Oct. 18, 1953
And captioned by my mother "Us Lumberjacks!"
Mama is on the left.

.

.

My grandparents had divorced years before.
Unheard of in that day and age~ (I never learned of this until I was divorced in 1979/1980, and Mom shared this family 'secret' with me as I was going through my 1st divorce). My grandparents lived at one of the local nursing homes in Green Bay. They had separate rooms. More feeble, but still they were able to come and visit on occasion providing they had transportation to/from the home.

.

.

Francis VandenPlas, and Zoe (Radart), VandenPlas
Photo taken in the early 1960's

.

.

The decision was made after their deaths to sell the old homestead. All of the children (7), had long since relocated, were married, and had children of their own.

.

.

The house, still standing after years of neglect;
sans windows, doors and entryway.
The outbuildings and barns also stood.
Photo dated 1970

..

In the mid 1960's, a dear sweet couple, (originally from Germany, and 1st generation Americans), had bought the homeplace.

.

.

.

.

Their names were Karl and Hilde Johnssen.

Sadly, they never had children of their own, but AS children we always looked forward to seeing them~ Much like our own grandparents who, by that time were gone from our young lives. (I was 5 when Grandpa died in Spring, and had turned 5 by the time grandmother died in the Fall; about 7 months later).

Karl had worked for Ford Motor Company in Detroit until he retired.

Hilde was a short, little, lovely woman who knew everything. And I say that with the utmost respect.
Hilde had had a brain tumor in her 40's. After her doctors had removed the tumor this strong woman had to learn EVERYTHING all over again! Much as a baby would, she had to even learn to crawl before she could walk. Karl stood by her side every step of the way.

And learn she did! There was simply NOTHING that you could 'stump' this woman on! Nor was she ever afraid of anything.

Hilde and Karl both hunted. And many times it was Hildegard that slayed the venison or the bear! But it didn't matter, as long as they had food on their table.

.

Karl and Hilde had plans of their own for the place. Not wanting to destroy any of the history of the place, but having no use for a barn, they simply decided to turn the old barn into their home!

.

.

The foundation was solid, although they would pour additional concrete for the flooring...

.

.

Before renovation. An undated photo.
(Would any of you know the production years of these vehicles)?

.

.

.
Karl on the right; with an unknown helper, securing the beams.
.
Work began in earnest.
And yes, Hilde pitched in as well.

.

.

And soon a home began to emerge where the old barn had once stood!

.

.

Rear of home...

.

.

Front of home.
Uncle Walter Nooyen, Hilde, Mama, and Karl

.

.

Uncle Walter married my Aunt Florence. (She was the eldest of the VandenPlas children). He preceded her in death. My Aunt Florence lived until May of 1998. My own mother passed away that very same November.

I will blog more about these dear people, but for now must get my day moving.

But, I promised a special picture for my cousin in Germany at Ramstein Air Base.

.

.

Aunt Florence and Uncle Walter Nooyen
ENJOY!

.

I hope you all have a grand Thursday. It is in the low 60's here, and LOTS of wind and rain. (I am amazed that the power has not gone out)... >knocks on wood<

Love to all!

XOXO
Anne

Our LEAD Troublemaker!

A bit more nostalgia...

.

Good Morning All;

Mother Natures Aprils Fools joke on us, (around these parts anyway), coming just a wee bit late this year...

.

.

I am not even too sure if Punkie sees the humor in it!
.

.

.

.

.

Is there a Ghost of Easters Past?

Because if there is, here we go...

We did not heat our basement; the only heat down there provided by the old wood/coal furnace we had... (and it gave off plenty as it chugged to life)...

But the basement was our cellar- kind of a cool place to store everything... Including our veggies, canned goods, and eggs. The older refrigerators we quite small on the inside, and so many things were simply kept out. Sounds horrendous in this day and age, but everything we had was fresh. Salmonella was quite unheard of, poultry laid fresh eggs, and as long as those eggs were gathered every morning they were fresh as could be! Being one of the few farms back then that produced "Grade A" Milk, we could have no chickens. (Separate barns would have been required for any other farm animal, save the cows). We received all of our eggs from neighbors and family close~by.

One year... I had to be 6 or 7 maybe, Mom had gotten all the preparations ready to color eggs. Of course we had to boil those eggs first... Mama had sent me down to the basement to get the eggs.

There were probably about 6 dozen then that we would use... I got them down off the shelf, and began to come back upstairs, when I tripped on the basement steps.

AND ON THE WAY UP !!!

There were eggs all over!

My life was OVER!

I was not only bruised, but cut a bit, AND terrified of even calling out FOR 'HELP'...

...So I did what any normal kid would do.

I began to cry.

Loudly, AND PROBABLY QUITE OBNOXIOUSLY TOO.

And of course Mom had to come see what the devil had made me cry.

(And ever so LOUDLY too)...

I remember the horrified look on her face as she rounded that corner... The sharp intake of breath just before she simply told me to "get up".

I heard her sigh. (And I remember the swat on my backside as I walked by her after she told me to get cleaned up).

By the time I was cleaned up, she had salvaged a LOT of those eggs.

And that 'trip' wasn't nearly as bad as what I had originally thought it to be...

We had probably about 4 dozen (give or take), left to color. But I think I probably ruined that day for everyone too.

I don't remember the Easter... Just that trip and fall...

.

.

Fast forward a few years...

...to me~n~my girls...

Times were lean, and I usually got "hand~me~overs" from relatives and such for clothes for the girls. My aunts were wonderful about this, and mom would always pick up a few things when she would go to Goodwill or St. Vinnies too.

But one year, I wanted something more special...

I didn't have the money to go to the fabric store, but I sure had leftover fabric. And got busy making the girls their "new" easter outfits. Oh they weren't too "easter~ish", (unless red is now an easter color). But they sure had something new to wear. I used one of their shirts, and a pair of their pants for the pattern... And this is how they turned out!

.

.

My little Jennifer Hope and Zoe Catherine in their "new" clothes...
Silly maybe, but 'cute' too!
(Of course, I was kind of biased)!
.
.
.

Now to fast forward once more...

.

.

And yes, this was our chief cook and bottle washer...
.
.
.
.
But what you might NOT know is that she was also our lead troublemaker!
.
.
.

Casey was about 6 years old; and for the Grace of God still believed in that same flop~earred rabbit that would come and hide eggs every Easter morning.

We were living on Jaworski Road... The phone rang that Holy Saturday afternoon. I answered it, and could barely make out my own mothers voice over her laughter... But she had asked was Casey home? Um yeah... So I put Casey on...

...I am right there, as I hear Casey say "Hi Grandma!" (in that excited and happy tone that beloved grandbabies always use)... ~I hear Casey say "What?!?!?!" ~And I watch her face turn a bit sour. ~A few seconds later she is almost crying... They talk a few more minutes and when I hear Casey say, "I love you too Grandma!" I know the conversation is over. She hands the phone back to me...

"Hello?" ... "HELLO?" ... "Mom?" ...Nothing. ...She had hung up.

And there was Casey standing by me as I hung up my phone too.

I asked her what was wrong? She said, "Grandma says the Easter Bunny is dead!"

A bit shocked, I giggle. (Bad choice of reactions)...

And so I ask...

She says, "Grandma went to go get her mail, and there he was, DEAD, in the middle of the road!"

I tried to quash that little voice in my head that had promptly begun singing the 'dead skunk' song)... ~crossin' the highway late last night, he shoulda looked left, and he shoulda looked right...

Then she said "Grandma is getting her shovel right now, and is gonna "BURY IT!"

...(hiccup~hiccup~hiccup)...

God help me, Mom...

I explained to Casey that Grandma was mistaken... (She sure left me holding the bag on this one when she'd hung up)...

I told Casey that it was only one of his helpers because the Easter Bunny is magic and would never just die in the middle of the road...

Troublemaker? Mama? ...(I rest my case).

Casey~Face was very hesitant to believe me... (Grandmas words are always more believable)...

That night then... to have Casey put flour down on the floor so she could see his footprints if he did come...

Smart kid~ ...(too smart)...

Waking the next morning to see his footprints there on the kitchen floor was more than enough validation for this precocious child of mine...

...And she happily went in search of the eggs he had hidden.

I didn't count those eggs that year...

hehehe

Have a splendid Saturday! I must go shovel snow...

XOXO
Anne

My thoughts seem so hard to 'organize' or whatever this morning... Almost impossible if you will... Having looked at so many photos has left me a bit melancholy at best...

Where to begin about my mother...

She was one of those people, too few and far between, that were/are angels on Earth.

On any given day, at some point, she could be found writing a letter to someone... As a young lady, to write to her dad, who still lived in Upper Michigan. She had moved to Green Bay and had gotten a job at Kraft Cheese. (She worked there until she married in 1949; and made many many friends). Later letter writing sent her notes all over the world. To France. Germany etc. Her brothers being enlisted and both fighting the war.

Even before she died, and after two strokes had left her a bit fuddled at times, she could be found writing her letters and in her journal.

...Until she had written her last letter... Dated November 6th, 1998 to a dear friend in California. She would faithfully have mailed it the morning that she died.

Mom had so many friends, and an address book that reflected her love for them. In those books she kept 'notations' of all of their birthdays, their childrens birthdays, their grandchildren... and would always mention them, if not send them their own cards. (I fail miserably at her organizational skills in that department; though I have been known to organize my purse in record time too). hehehe

She would also write down when those friends and relatives had passed, (and a very slight "x" through their addresses would remind her not to send them a Christmas/Birthday card any longer).

Although Mom was a devout Catholic; she was NOT a fanatic. (Although I am sure that Mary and I questioned that many times when a reference to "The 10 Commandments" would be made). hehehe

Mom attended mass every day before work up until her marriage to dad; and then more sporadically daily until Mary and I came along.

Mass was at 4AM at Sts Peter and Paul Church in Green bay. She would wake, dress, drive into town, weather permitting, and go to this very early mass. Before she turned in for the night, she faithfully said her prayers for others; and her rosary. My dad did the very same.

In her later years, she misplaced those rosarys a few times, and Mary and I would get her new ones; always 'blessed' before use.

On the wallplate in the living room was the message, "The Family that PRAYS together STAYS together." And it was true. Most nights to get down on our knees, and at least say the first decade of the rosary. Together.

Do I pray now? I do. Daily.

Am I organized enough to even use my rosary? Mostly not, but my prayers reflect my days and my heart; my love for others too.

Mom was SO funny.

Many times, what might have been actually humorless and/or dull could be found hysterical from her own point of view. Spilling a bag of cranberries on the floor one year at Thanksgiving was cause to end up holding our sides laughing so very hard! She loved Erma Bombeck, and would lend her books to me after she was done reading them. She laughed out loud at RoseAnne Barr. And would call me to share the funniest things she had heard; or what had happened.

She loved to read, but did not get the daily Press Gazette. However, my cousins (next door) did, and would give her those papers when they were done with them. She had subscriptions to Good Housekeeping, Country Farm Wife; and while they still farmed, the Hoards Dairyman would also grace our mailbox. She loved the National Geographic; again received from my cousins... (Thank you JoAnne and Jim Reimer).

There was little that she wasn't aware of that went on in the world, near or far. And up until the last 2 years of her life, she never missed an election. Mom and Dad were completely unwavering in their patriotism; though they would spat about whom to vote for too!

She loved art. She collected prints and frames whenever a trip to Goodwill or St. Vincent de Paul was in order. She herself painted with oils, charcoal, watercolor, (and could draw like those people that do the court drawings of others on the witness stand). When I had my gallbladder removed in Oct of 1984, she drew me asleep in the recovery room! She painted the cows, the cats, the dogs, the trees.

And oh, how she LOVED her camera! There is a trunkful of her photos that I have yet to go through.

When we were kids, Mom would mail her film out to get it developed, and receive new rolls of film when those pictures came back to her. (She would have especially LOVED my little digital camera)! Later, when the stores offered it, there was a trip to Sure~Way to bring her films in. (If you brought the film in early enough in the day, sometimes you could get them back the next day)!

Such progress!

She had "a wicked right"...

Mary and I tested her strength, (and the length of her arms), many times over.

(Sorry 'bout that, Mom).

She was fair though, (as you all know already)...

She was very smart. Her education augmented with many courses from the Technical School here in town; and for her art, either by night classes or at 'The Clearing' up in Door County.

In her early years, she was a maid--- and SO many funny stories about the heirarchy of the upper~classes from those years.

(Dare I say "Uppity~Classes")? hehehe

She was a housekeeper at St Vincents Hospital for many years too; knowing many of the patients and their families by the time they left the hospital. (In those days, they would keep an appendectomy patient or even a new mother in the hospital for a very long time)...

She cared for, and helped deliver many of her nieces and nephews as they came into the world; staying and helping out the family until my aunts were able to take care.

Not having a car during the Depression years, she would take the bus to work, or simply walk. ("Shanks~Mare", as Pa would call it).

She would take the train to Sidnaw, Michigan to visit her dad; or catch the train out to her sisters in Kunesh. And in those days there was always the local Greyhound too.

My Aunt Lucille and Uncle Clem had horses, and there was a local man who would break those horses for a small fee.

She met this man when she was about 15...

When she was 33, she married this same man!

...If he could break horses, farm and care for his live~in aging mother, go to church, be the janitor there, and also dig the graves as needed, then he was 'just alright' in her book.

She always said she knew him for 18 years before she married him, and that we should never jump into anything. Even though he had proposed on their second date; (and she had accepted)! How cool is that!

She was as proud of her family; as I am of mine. Fierce in her loyalty to us too. She taught me that, and to this day there has not been much that we cannot overcome; either by talking, or by prayer. At some point to have a melding of the minds, or to accept the differences and to respect them.

Mama earned respect from many people just because she had such a good heart. And yes, even earned that same respect from one friend who was a harlot, (as they called those ladies in those days)...

Mama never had to look too far to see the 'good' in everyone. (The harlot loved art).

To screw up was to be forgiven... (even if it took a little while)!

She was VERY patient. She would define our screw~ups as "simple human nature"... When we would get passionate about something, we would be reminded of that humanity, and we would go forward from that point of view.

She taught us not to hate. She taught us that the opposite of love is NOT hate; it is apathy. And to be apathetic toward anyone, for any reason was wrong.

We could not say "hate".

We could not even say "poop". And when I came home from school one day in 5th grade (after hearing quite an exchange on the school bus), I had asked her straight out what the "F"~word meant. (Well, heck I didn't know)...

Her first response was "Who talks like that?" And so I told her who. She explained about the word; and after we had gone outside to do our chores, I guess she got on the phone to a few kids' parents because they did get in trouble for it.

I really COULD go on and on and on... But I won't. (Not today anyway)...

In closing, I would simply say "Thank You" to this amazing woman...

...That is, right AFTER I tell her how very much I love her, (and how very much I miss her now)...

XOXO
Anne

And now it would be time for everybody else to tell me the stories of your own mama!

Bursting Bubbles ...and "Getting Caught"

Good Morning One and All;

I went up to bed last night after a splendid repast of Italian Spaghetti and Veggies too.

.

.

.

Hopefully this picture of our dinner looks almost as good as it tasted.
(If I do say so myself)!
.
.
.
.

Going up to bed, I had a full house... Noisy yes, but absolutely LOVELY to hear every now and then too... Waking shortly before one, there was complete and utter silence. And after so much laughter, it was hard to adjust... (like for the first 4 and a half seconds anyway)! hehehe

Joe had stopped by- A bit flaming, but makes his own clothing, and has an undeniable great sense of humor too!

(Besides any person that has "sew" much to offer with a needle and thread is more than quite alright in my book)!

.

.

.

.

Such a card he is as " The Nanny "... (Mrs. Doubtfire)!?!?
...yes, he made it himself!
.
.
.

Kelli had stopped by earlier.

A monumental birthday for her... And I will not mention ANY numbers, (suffice it to say it has something to do with the "half~century" mark)!

Look what happened when somebody mentioned a NUMBER!!!

.

.

.

Ya don't mess with the best...
The other guy looks worse!

.

.

.

Here she is with Berta yesterday...

.

.

.

(And no, she does not read this blog, so I will not have to blacken her other eye when she comes to beat me up for 'telling')!

Oh we DO have so much fun! She needed a bit of help with the horses last night; and had I not been cooking for a houseful I would have gladly helped her out. They were all going to Victorias Restaurant in Bay Settlement last night; so she was working on a deadline. Hope they got to celebrate in style!

The 17th is also my Little Lawrences Birthday- he turned 7.

And I feel badly that we could not make it down there this year, but yes, we shall go when we can- (as Mother Nature and schedules will allow)... We called down to Prattville last night during supper... And all sang "Happy Birthday" to the answering machine! Imagine they too, were out celebrating. (And my guess would be that they were at Chinese for dinner)!

And now down to the bursting of the bubbles...

At one point last night, I had mentioned something of a sexual nature. (No, it was NOT at the table)...

...But my remark was met with the same old hogwash that most children offer their parents... "Nobody wants to think of their mother having sex!"

(Boy, oh boy, oh boy, have I got news)!!!

...But, as not to incite any confusion over my 'pasgetti dinner, I calmy told Miss Casey to settle down, and that YES, I did have sex in my life- (like it or not), but added that it was only 4 times... (Namely Zoe, Jenne, Roberta and herself).

Tightwad that CaseyAnne can be, she bought NONE of it either....

Uh~Oh...
Do I feel? ...
Do I really feel a "story" coming on???
Um...
YUP!
hehehe

...When we were little, Mom and Dad took a nap each and every day. (How weird is THAT)???

Mary and I, (at about 5 and 7), were WAY TOO BIG for naps; so once we had grown out of them, we were always told to go outside and play... (so we wouldn't wake them up?)!

... Or so we thought...

One day, this really exciting thing had happened and I had come running to the house. I went up the stairs quietly as I could because I had something to tell them BUT I did not want to be waking them up either... And it was so VERY IMPORTANT too...

(Besides, Mary had told me to listen to if they were snoring or not). So I did. Hearing nothing outside their bedroom door, I opened it up; (and wanted to make sure they were awake so I could tell them the very important thing)!

BIG HUGE FREAKIN' MISTAKE ON MY PART! (I do remember thinking that it was a very strange way to take a nap though).

...But before I could utter one sound, or even make one teeny tiny word come out, I had BOTH Mom and Dad yelling at me; and telling me to "Go Away!"

What???

What the heck???

I had something to say, and doggone it, I was gonna say it...

...So, (completely ignorant of what had just happened), I opened my mouth a second time to speak...

That was my FIFTH, (and final), MISTAKE!!! (The first was coming in, 2nd was sneaking up the stairs, 3rd opening their door, and the 4th was trying to speak the first time)...

FIVE mistakes in just about as many seconds! Can ya believe it?

This was not going well for me at all. So it finally sinks in that what they were telling me was to go back outside right that very minute.

And so I did. ~And I do remember telling Mary that if we were wrestling around like that while WE were supposed to be napping that we would be in BIG trouble. She agreed.

...And the entire incident then left my mind for about the next 10~20 years or so... (as did the reason I had big news and all in the first place; that, I never did recall).

hehehe

At one point, so much later, I realized what the heck had happened all those years ago... I called Mom posthaste and told her of my own little revelation! She remembered it well! (Ya think)? And we had such a good laugh over it then!

Perhaps it was this, my own experience, or maybe just the way I am that makes me laugh about these kinds of things... But I can tell you that I have NO problem thinking of my parents in bed or having sex or whatever...

To me it makes them that much more human; and that much more happy together.

So yes kids, I've got news!!!!!

Your parents did have sex... and they probably STILL are if they are still alive.

you don't have to picture it for Petes sakes. You just have to accept it.

Deal with it.
...And be happy for them.

(But DO make as much noise as possible if you are going to surprise them with any kind of BIG NEWS)!!!

Later, was Mom embarassed when I had called her about my little epiphany? Absolutely not!

She really did think it funny! (That laughter of course, being hindsight, because they sure as heck were NOT laughing THAT day)! hehehe

And so, having been on both sides of that proverbial bedroom door in my life, I can honestly say that it is NOT funny when it happens; but in retrospect it is FREAKIN' HILARIOUS!!!

And so these are my smiles for today!

Hmmmm... .... Does anybody have anything to add???

XOXO
Anna~Anna

'Sat'urday Night! "HIND"sight... (with DE"TAILS")!

Good Morning...

Hope it is for you folks anyway... ...My (computer) mouse has seemingly become addicted to some amphetamines, and is zig~zagging all over my screen.

Now you ALL know that my phone lines here are ancient at best- (probably installed by the late Alexander Graham Bell himself); and as such it takes forever to download even a single page (or is that "UP"load)? ... Who the heck cares?

I cannot even get cable here, SO while I wait for the pokey 'puter to down/up any 'loads', I usually play some spider solitaire. But this morning I have already learned that it is downright impossible to play this game while your mouse is a speed addict... (And yes, I have uninstalled it and re~installed this rodentious mouse of mine)... Oh well...

With our light dusting of snow here, (and my own little memories of real snow in January), I decided to pull out one of my old journals...

Now why I decided to do that TODAY is beyond me...

Knowing that there is NO such thing as a coincedence, I can only attribute it to my mother... 'guiding' me in some way, to do so. She freaks out the dogs from time to time too! (And yes, she has been 'gone' since '98)...

Accordingly, I listen to my guts (and my mother), I go upstairs, dig out the journal I want, and find my entry....

How very COOL that this entry is dated JANUARY 9th, 1985!!!

A snowman that was standing- I had built it two days before my dad passed away...

It was still standing as the story below unfolded...

.

***I might also caution that you might not care to be drinking (or eating) anything while you read it... (knowing full well that my friends here have this somewhat sadistic streak and are bound to be laughing at my pain); they could potentially have drink or food spurting from their noses... You HAVE been warned!

So here goes nothin'...

TWENTY~TWO YEARS AGO, TODAY...

My Ass Hurts.

Please do not laugh... (And I trust that whomever may be reading this in years to come will NOT find any malicious humor in the story I am about to relate):

I find myself in a very uncomfortable seated position as I begin to recall the de'tails' of what began as a wonderful Sunday afternoon at my mothers home in the country. And after such a grand Saturday night, (which I will get to later), I was really fired up!

A warm-ish day for winter, the girls were out by the barn; spirits high as they were sledding down the barngrade.

Their squeals of delight, (and unabashed enthusiasm), were almost too much for me to bear... as I recalled (with an envious pang), my own childhood days of sledding down that hill.

I found that I could resist no longer; and decided to take my first sled ride in many many years...

Out to that hill I ran! (Neglecting to put on my snowsuit, or even a coat, hat or mittens)...

As I ran up that hill, I (nicely) threatened to push a small child off her sled if she refused to relinquish it herself.

Somewhat hesitantly, one of those little kids, (then 7, 6, and 4), forfeited their sled to me, (deciding to forego any possible ramifications of NOT doing so)...

Incidentally, this sled was exactly like the one pictured at the top of this page, except it was a bright red...

In my greed, I quickly sat upon the little magic red carpet... I find myself quite firmly 'planted' in a hole, and cannot go anywhere...

Not giving up on the hope for a thrill, I readjust my position on that hill. I realize that I am now staring my possible demise right in the face; as I focus on the two telephone poles directly in front of me. (Meanwhile, at my side stands a patient, innocent child, awaiting the return of her sled)...

Once again to realign my position- carefully, cautiously, I am finally facing the house.

My blood is pumping furiously with an excitement comparable to the night before, (which I will get to later).

I wildly anticipate the upcoming 'ride', the thrill of the downhill flight; and can actually 'feel' the wind whipping through my hair. This impending imminent thrill can no longer be denied, detained or delayed any longer...

ALL SYSTEMS ARE "GO" !!!

It takes all three of those little girls to push me off to a flying start... With my heart now beating wildly in my throat, I begin my descent... Slowly at first... Gaining speed and momentum I clutch the little handle firmly between my thighs. The ecstacy of traveling at such a high rate of speed takes my very breath away; and an unmistakable sound of delight escapes from my throat...

Suddenly, from out of nowhere ...a little bump. (I really hadn't noticed it on the way up the hill?); and I literally begin to FLY (a might ungracefully), about 5 feet into the air... Realizing in a split~second that my little red sled has now deserted me, (I think this is called centrifugal force)... I see that I am about to fall quickly to the ground, (Sadly, I think THIS is called 'gravity')...

Soundlessly, I land. And FLAT ON MY POSTERIOR! ...My smiling face quickly turning to a frozen and facetious grin as I realize I am impaled upon a outcropping of frozen tundra... This little piece of 'land' is perhaps the size of an egg, (and with the density of cast iron).

As my pain grows greater and deeper, I realize with an overwhelming sadness that my three wonderful, cherubic children have burst into side~splitting gales of hysteria after witnessing my flight! ... I am left truly alone with this intimate pain, (not to mention my injured and twisted pride).

Slowly I try to move, fully intending to rise up, return the sled and walk gracefully into the house.

In my mind, and in my intentions, I do stand upright; sauntering gaily into the house... And all the while, whistling a happy tune and remembering the wildly uninhibited evening before, (which I will get to later).

In reality though, my body refused to budge off that sled, the iron goose egg impaled upon my tailbone...

...As I cursed the masochistic frozen ground that threatened to disable me for life, I slowly tipped to one side, (much like a tree falls in the forest).

Now with my once happy face very unceremoniously 'blowing' a snowbank, I realize I AM alive; (although my backside may NEVER be the same again)...

Cautiously I draw my ungloved hands to my own shoulders and push myself upwards in excruciating pain as I then pull my legs into something very closely resembling the fetal position....

Unpredictably, I only tip over the other way. (Yes, "Anne" means grace)!

Suffering, (and in obvious, AGONIZING pain), I get yet another glimpse of my angelic daughters; grasping their little bellies, laughing, and ogling their own flesh~and~blood mother with unpretentious delight! Though at this point, I realize I am looking and acting much like a "weeble"...

...More laughter from above... How very hideous!!!

My maimed and injured pride quickly and strongly surpasses the inviolate pain in my butt, and I quickly compose myself to stand erect.

As my sense of balance threatens to desert me in my time of need, I actually 'waddle' to the house as quickly as my tortured body will allow. (I never did return that little plastic torture device to the child; she had to collect it herself)...

My frozen sardonic smile was still in place as I enter the warm safety of my mothers home, and maybe even my mothers' arms...

I realize quickly there will be no comfort and no consolation. My own mother, (moving with a painless ease), rounds the corner of the kitchen with tears in her eyes... One look, one short glance, tells me these tears are only spawns of hysteria! ...She too, laughing uncontrollably at the sight she has just witnessed from the warmth (and safety) of her kitchen window.

Totally confused, feeling alone, abandoned, and miserable, I have nursed my @ss for the last four days.

And while it is true I may never be the same again, I HAVE learned from this experience and invaluable lesson...

I have learned what exactly a "pain in the ass" really is! ...Oh, and about Saturday night? I will get to that later...

XOXO
Anne
