~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good Sunday Afternoon to All!!!
Shall I start out with "I'm B-a-a-a-a-c-k!" ??? It's ME, and I am in a fine mood even!!!
I have been up since about 2 AM, and will try to nap in a bit... (My danged head is back too, but not too badly)... The Maxalt seems to have worked for now. SO happy about that, but ever so tiring too...
It has been so unseasonably 'wondermous' outside; that today is actually the first day I have been INside for most of the day. Milly is pissed. Punkin is pissed. (But hey, it's Sunday and even I need a bit of a break every now and then)!
We have been working outside for the past few days. (And used such a nice "newfound" pair of clippers to trim a few bushes and trees). hehehe
Punkie helped me immensely, pulling the tangled branches out from where I'd cut...
.
.
Miss Milly, completely unimpressed by this, and preferring just to spectate...
... and smile of course...
.
.
So many trees. So little time; being the addict I am on here! (But this is supposed to be winter, and aren't we supposed to grow lazy and fat)?
Later, we took a walk to the woods... Even Miss Casey had come out yesterday, joining us when we all went back to the river.
.
.
.
Much like this pup had done on New Years Day, Punkie wanted to do nothing but fish...
.
.
Crazy dog...
.
.
That water is probably only half a degree above freezing! Or so...
No luck fishing either; but it is fun to watch her TRY!
And yes, we have finally found out why Miss Milly runs off and disappears too.
Seems as though she has found a bit of *ewwww*, entrails from a deer, and thoroughly enjoys this as a snack... and to roll in too!
Punkie was not really interested. perhaps spoiled in that she does get my leftovers on a regular basis... But honestly I would much prefer her NOT to develop an appetite for these 'things' that can be found on the forest floor...
The buds are coming out on many bushes and trees too. Guess that means they will be sparse when Spring does get here...
But still, pretty to look at.
.
Wonder how confused my little tulips and daffodils will be too; though I have not seen any coming up... yet...
At night we went back out to drag a few of those branches to the burn pile...
.
This little dog being SO very helpful!
.
Yet when she got the branches to the pile, she didn't want to be parting with them! Once piled up though she seemed as satisfied as I was with our days work!
(And yes, she IS working on the smile)!
.
.
I have to go back downtown to the county tax office tomorrow morning. I had sold a few acres. The realtor I had a year and a half ago was supposed to file everything there... (He filed SOMETHING, but I guess it was asking too much to have him do it accurately). Additionally, I have another lot which I own. He left it on there as that is all I own!?! (Hmmm... No damned wonder I am so freaking cold all the time)!
What a first~class DORK. It is SO screwed up!! Wish there was a decent attorney in this town that was not tied in to all of the danged realtors in some way shape or form. Suffice it to say I kinda got screwed... The realtor was to have it all fixed last March and it is still all messed up. I really think I should storm this guys office... but I won't; (well unless the county office can do nothing without the realtor)... Oh he was/IS a skunk!
Speaking of skunks... Odd that I haven't had any around... I honestly have not smelled one close in a couple of years, and out here, that is really strange. I wonder what enemy a skunk really has? Anybody know?
I also have to stop at the Suamico Village Office and get a burn permit for this year. There is so much that needs burning in that pile, and as long as it isn't froze, I can torch it and still have the hose out. (I am such a wimp when it comes to fire)...
Jennifer sent a few pictures of my Little Man Isaiah... I haven't seen him in over a month of forever now, and he seems to have changed so much already. Here he is helping out at the ranch! (I think he likes the horses, dogs, and chickens too)!
He looks so tired on his "trattor" But still such a cutie!!!
.
.
I'd better close and go 'try~on' that nap!
Hope you are all enjoying your weekends!!!
XOXO
Anne
Teach Your Parents Well...
We don't have to say or think what we don't wish to. We have a choice in those things, and we have to realize that and practice using that choice." (Rolling Thunder, CHEROKEE)
Good Morning to all.
Foremost and first I would like to thank everyone who took the time to read and comment on my (now deleted) previous posting.
As was added (edited) later I did NOT write this. And by now many of you already know this.
Those awful Native Words were written by a Native!
I found them offensive.
I found them to be ignorant.
Cruel.
Dangerous.
Shallow.
Intemperate.
Insensitive.
Foolishly UN~informed.
And completely prejudicial...
I will include a history of my remarks to this message posting...
...And just to let you know, I was either terribly misunderstood, or just completely rebuked for taking a stand with this.
My initial response was...
"Perhaps my sense of humor has gone missing, but I find this entire posting prejudicial and very UN~funny...
I do not, nor do I believe that this is the way most of us live.
This was a 'cancer' posting, nothing more. (And we ALL know how slowly, and insidiously, a cancer can kill)....
XOXO Anna"
------------
The reply I received as follows...
sorry i have to disagree with you on this...the ability of the native americans to laugh and find humor in life in general is awsome. how horrible attack someone and to rate it a cancer posting!!! :(
---------------------
And me again here...
"Without turning this all~important issue into a three~ring~circus, I find it odd that I do not live like that... And if I did I do not think I would find it funny in the least! I believe this is when one HAS to have the ability to pull ones self up by the bootstraps and make something more special out of their lives, and their families.
Finding humor in life in general is one thing; but this biased 'rez
dictionary' only seemed to find humor at the indigents expense.
(And by 'indigent', I mean "poor").
As far as attacking my personal use of the word 'cancer'. It was
used synonymously to 'scourge' and 'rot' and certainly NOT as a
reflection of any illness!!!
And yes, 'scourge' and 'rot' do kill. They kill the spirit slowly and insidiously with thoughts such as were previously posted. Let us
be more kind toward everyone no matter their personal circumstance!
PLEASE TAKE NOTE: My sister has Grade 3, Stage IIIC cancer, and I do not think I would use this disease as food for anyones fodder (on here, or anyplace else for that matter).
Thank you.
XOXO
Anna-Anna"
--------------------------
Anna, i thought i could let this rest but this morning i can not. i thought maybe if i could respond to your comments in nac perhaps you could gleem some insight... I find it odd that I do not live like that... altho you do not or have not lived like this many na have. thus they will find the humor .... it is no different than your posting on your blog...'the day my older sister lost her mind'. As far as attacking my personal use of the word 'cancer' i understood what you meant when u used the word in your post and so did everyone else i believe. but it was an offensive attack on the poster. Let us be more kind toward everyone no matter their personal circumstance! perhaps you should take some of your own advice here... if youve not lived it than you have no way of understanding i guess... but a sense of humor inspite of adversity ...is not a cancer...it is healing in itself. i personnally think you owe the nas of this board an apology. -----------
and from yet another person...
what exactly did you find offensive in this list? ndns ability to laugh at ourselves does not equate with not trying to better our lives. this rez dictionary is closer to real life than the stereotypical stoic-super-spiritual always-serious-ndn. in fact, anyone who spends time with ndns better have a sense of humor and a thick skin. the only ones who don't get teased are the ones who don't belong. they get teased after they are gone...
------------------
And so I have been trying to analyze and sort through my own feelings for the past two days...
In reading the remarks about my sister, (and the post about the MOW~ISS), I think it already clear that the respondent did NOT actually take the time necessary to read/understand/comprehend that post. But that is of little importance or regard at this point.
On another level is the statement that the respondent clearly believes I do NOT have "sense of humor inspite of adversity" This statement has also hurt me; but having not followed my blogs and life as it is, I do not think anyone could really bear witness to the fact that I believe I do have this offbeat sense of humor ...(about MOST things anyway).
When I was 22 years old, my then-husband left me alone with 3 small babies, and sailed off into the sunset with his girlfriend and little boy; moving to Germany to avoid any possible child support issues.
I, alone, was responsible for the complete care and raising of these three lives begotten during that marriage. (My baby girls were 3, 2, and 1 month of age when we split up). ...He provided NO support. He could not even send a birthday card, nor a Christmas present in all their growing up years. And if any of you think for one minute that I was not eligible for some commodities during those younger years, then you clearly have another thought coming!
And yet, we are 'survivors' in a very REAL sense of the word!
I have raised those three little babies to be that kind of survivor too.
Proud.
Strong.
Accomplished...
As I have raised their little sister Casey to also be that way!
...And yes, ALL with their 'backbones' and their spirits intact!
It should go then, without saying, that I am PROUD of them all.
The 'rez dictionary' I took offense to is the same kind of ignorant thought process that I fought all those years to keep my babies from.
And yes, it is an affront to any parenting abilities, (and survival skills too). AS I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE to EVERY SINGLE PARENT, and to EVERY SINGLE HUNGRY PERSON OF ANY CREED, SKIN, OR NATIONALITY WHO MIGHT POSSESS EVEN HALF A BRAIN!
And then to completely stick that proverbial foot in the writers own mouth, they had also included the last 'definition' as follows:
Disunderstanding (DISS under stand ing):
when white people think that they understand why tribes and individual Indians are the way they are, but attribute any and all behavior to the culture or the race.
Correct me if I am wrong, but is this not what they themselves have done with this entire 'dictionary'?
I am still at a loss for words... and perhaps that is why I wanted to read your own thoughts on the matter.
Some of you have referenced the fact that I am Ojibway; and some clearly did not know that I am of Native descent.
Some of you thought I might have written it, (asking for your blessings to post it).
I am not of that nature.
Never was; and I promise to you, I never will be!
But I am Native.
And I would never ever want any other natives to be laughing at such a sickness. It only serves to stifle. To belittle; and to break spirits and hearts.
Do not do this to your young. Do not do this to your neighbors. We are all here. We are all alive ...and trying HARD to find some semblance of peace and intelligence amongst the many reasons not to in this world today. (And if that sounds a bit "Billy~Jack"~ish, then so be it).
Again, I thank you all for your wonderful and most welcomed messages. Serving only to solidify my many friendships that I have already made on here!
XOXO
Anne
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN
by Graham Nash
You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good bye.
Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.
And you, of tender years,
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your youth,
They seek the truth before they can die.
Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.
Berta's Toe; and Gabriels Face...
Good Morning All;
The above photo being one I took yesterday of Robertas foot! (And the underside looks even "prettier")! Ooooh... Those little piggies surely got squished and smushed...
But she does get into her shoes too! (Which, actually wasn't even necessary yesterday)... Record HIGHS all around the state! And we have already broken the high for today... Think it was 51 earlier! Thank God and Mother Nature!!! It was fabulous to run outside barefoot for even a few minutes!
No walk yesterday, but just played 'catch' with the dogs for a long time. It is SO nice not to get chilly as we were out there too.
CaseyAnne stopped out after hew new J.O.B. as "Stuffy~Person" yesterday afternoon. (Click on her name to visit her profile)...
(guess you have to go read her blog)...
.
.
She was going to do the grocery shopping for me too. (And forgot the list here)... It is always great to have her around too... even IF she had way too much fun on the computer while she was here. I don't think I have laughed THAT much in a long time; suffice it to say that I am anxiously awaiting her next blog entry!!! hehehe
.
.
Roberta and Master Gabriel here too! And she sang as she played with him!
How he LOVES his mama!
.
.
Later, he decided to take on the unforgiving wooden shelf with his face. He lost; squealing and crying and screaming... Completely inconsolable! Even the frozen green beans offered little comfort...
as Berta tried not to cry right along with him...
.
.
So much in pain... (Well, until the Oreo came out of the cupboard)!
Grandma knows how to fix these owies...
.
.
We laughed though, when the Oreo was gone he promptly went and gathered his hat and his coat. Clearly telling Mama it was time to go!
Punkie cannot stand to hear any of these babies cry.. neither can I...
'Hiding' in the entrance and just listening...
.
.
And that, my Dear Friends, was the silly extent of my 'yesterday' ...
XOXO
Good Morning!
Don't ask... ...(I have absolutely NO idea WHY I have that silly old song 'stuck in my head' this morning)!
Almost 40 degrees... As it has been for the longest time, (and no, I am still not complaining)!
Roberta came with Gabriel yesterday afternoon; and it's a good thing SHE remembered to come cut my hair because I had completely forgotten about it in the meantime... (I can blame it on that/THOSE injections)... And a note for whomever had said the injections did not work for them... I do NOT get the injections of Imitrex; it doesn't work for me anyway... When I get my shots they are comprised of demerol, phenergan and toradol (I believe 50mg of each). So please tell your doctor that you do not want to suffer anymore. You will need someone to bring you in for this injection as you are NOT permitted to drive within 24 hours of getting one...
As many of you (might) remember, last month I was SO very excited to be regaining the use of my right hand (index finger and thumb)... No that hasn't happened, but I am still doing all the p/t at home with the stretchy thingie and the weights.
Having left one of the weights out, Master Gabriel spied it and wanted to give it a try!
(What's that "10" mean on the side of it, Mama)?
.
.
Mama, I need HELP!
.
.
He needed reinforcements; and after looking around, (and scattering them all), he chose a pillow to prop it up on...
.
hehehe ...It just rolled off the pillow!
.
.
Not wanting to be outdone, and trying so hard to be patient as this scene unfolded before her eyes, Punkie wanted to give it a try too....
.
.
SUCCESS!!!
.
.
Master Gabriel watched her for a bit, and then she proclaimed that she was the winner!!!
.
.
Punk. The IRON DOG!!!
.
.
Oh, we had so much fun watching these 'kids' of ours. Punk, at 9 months now, can still a bit more rambunctious than necessary, and had to get put in the entrance a few times to calm her bones...
But upon being allowed re~entry, Miss Punk spied and grabbed the weight once more; promptly dropping it on Roberta's foot!!! -Roberta is now the proud owner of three purple and red toes! (Yeah, I do think they're broken)... But toes heal ('heel' hehehe) fast enough too. She will live. ...Just a bit 'gimpy' for a while!
And life goes on...
We did undecorate (mostly)... And since I have said for many years, I absolutely shall be getting a new tree for next year. And in order to accomplish this without further putting it off, I gave my old tree to Roberta! That really ought to make me get a new one... (or none at all)? Hmmm...
I did 'move' my computer too. (Where the frick did all that danged dust come from anyway)??? And I have the computer all set up on the little table out in the dining room for now. It is so much nicer (warmer) out here; especially when the furnace runs, and makes me all toasty warm! And am thinking that if it works out to do so, I might just keep it out here in summer too. I have a window A/C and use it in the living room, so come those nasty summer readings I can be comfy then too!
I'd better close and get on with my day.
Hope all is well in your little corner's' of the world!!!
XOXO
Anne
Yesterday... "Anna Gone Missing"...
Good Morning to All;
I am alive...
...And yes, CaseyAnne did bring me in for a hypo. Hence the title DOES make sense!
I remember sitting there, (at the office); waiting, (and waiting some more). Personally, I was just happy to be there, knowing that every minute either brought me closer to relief, or to the barfpan. (CaseyAnne does not see it this way, and absolutely hates to be kept waiting for any reason; whether it's in traffic or at the doctors office).
The doctor came in, only turning on one light (still I felt as though even that little light was trying to kill me too)... After a short conversation, he then ordered my shot.
The nurse came in a little while with 3 injections for me. Holy Mackeral, I knew this was a bad one (as far as migraines go), but 3 needles??? And I didn't care, even when she said, "Yes they are big ones too" And like my 'mouf' as of late, competing with a fullblown migraine, I did not even feel those shots... Barely anyway...
Within about 1/2 an hour I was feeling so much better; and always then I want to dance to celebrate this wonderful return to being painfree! Casey stopped at Best Buy, and I bought a printer, (YAY! and FINALLY), and a few programs for my computer too. (I do have a tendency to spend a few dollars after I get an injection and feel better)...
But of course because of those injections, I remembered NONE of this... We got back home, filled our faces with burgers from the A & W, watched the show, and I promptly fell asleep (read 'coma'), in the La-Z-Boy once more.
I awoke to a note on the table from Casey... She was happy to be looking forward to starting her new job today, and said she hoped my head feels better now. It actually does, but I know it will 'boomerang' once more today, but then by tomorrow I shall be ready for that dance!
Unca BoBBie woke me from my little coma about 7:30... And I remember thinking (as the phone kept ringing) 'why isn't Casey answering that?' But woke quickly enough too, thank goodness. He is in the process of getting a divorce- And at times is happy about it too. Other times it is sad to see too. One of those "Damned if you do, and damned if you don't" divorces. (But always ALWAYS so nice to speak to him too)!!!
Other than losing a day there is not much other news. I do have to be hooking up my new psc, and am probably going to be moving the computer to the front room... Knowing the weather is NOT going to remain so nice. (CAN IT)? And having no heat in this back room, and plenty out there, it makes sense to do this.
Perhaps I shall also begin to un~decorate also; leaving the creche up til the 8th.
This picture below is what I saw when I got up about 3:30. Having left the Punkster out... She was SO good yesterday; (if she bothered me at all I don't remember it, but I do not think she did... just waited patiently for me to wake up)...
The picture of the full moon...
.
.
and hiding behind a trail of vapors from an earlier jet. Wish it would have turned out a little better, but I think it looks pretty cool just the same!
.
.
Jan. 3, 8:57 a.m. EST - "The Full Wolf Moon". ...Amid the zero cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. It was also known as the 'Old Moon', or the "Moon After Yule." In some tribes this was the Full Snow Moon; although most applied that name to the next Moon.
I had better close and try to get caught up a bit here.
Have a grand day!!!
XOXO
Anne
The Polar Bear Pup...
YOKES!!!!
And yup, it's a picture of another rock for pity sakes! hehehe (And no, this one was not inspired by yet another dork on my dating site)!
(And for those of you not familiar with The Jacksonport Polar Bear Club in Door County, Wisconsin.. please CLICK HERE.)
"Any idiot can throw himself in freezing water, but it takes a real Polar Bear to do it 16 years in a row."
– J.R. Jarosh
Good Morning!
(And shortly maybe for me I will be saying 'good night' too)!
I took quite an extended nap this evening, and that only screws up my sleep at night. (I didn't mean to be taking that nap... just sort of fell asleep in the recliner)!
And was woken by the Punkie~Pup trying to tell me she had a full bladder! She jumped on the chair, licking my face... (and ewww, leaving puppy~spit on my glasses too)... and then even barked a bit. Kind of an abrupt way to wake up; (We shall have to work on the gentle prodding)... That always worked best for me anyway...
Must have been ALL the sunshine! What a bright and beautiful day!
Milly, Punkie and I all headed back to the woods early... And once again, Miss Milly disappeared once we got to the woods. (What's up with THAT anyway)? Although today Punk was not as upset about her invisible Mama... Just every now and then she would check to see if she heard or saw Miss Milly anywhere...
And thus began our brand new 2007!!!!
For the life of me I cannot ever remember such a mild winter... (And may God know that from my lips to His ears I am NOT complaining)... But last night on the news the weatherboy said it was the 8th mildest on record... (The others MUST have been before MY time). hehehe For surely I would recall such warmth in December and January... (but as y'all know, sometimes my recall/'rememberer' doesn't work so well)!
But I do remember Dad...
Pa was the one that always called me at 11pm, on the dot, every New Year Eve... as the "ball" dropped in Times Square to wake me and to wish me a "Happy New Year". (I miss that, him, so much)...
And so I was so happy when Jennifer called from Texas as soon as my Little Man Isaiah had woken her up to wish me a Happy New Year! She sounds very happy, yet a little homesick. But that is sure to be expected. I am 'homesick' for them also, and for all of their little visits here too. (Uh~oh, somebody is getting wanderlust?)... Perhaps Miss Punk and I will have to swing over Texas way before/after seeing Lawrence in February...
But back to New Year Day in the woods...
...Punk and I went all the way down to the river. It almost beckons us to do so every now and then; (and how can one EVER resist the call of the river)?
Punkin. As we were only about one~third of the way down...
Dark, down at the bottom....
Still keeping an eye out for Mama
Dark too, amidst the cedars and all else.
And the river making such a noise. But oddly enough so very peaceful too. I swear that if I could have found a dry spot anywhere I do believe I would have taken that silly nap right there! And ALL the 'greens' on New Year Day! How perfect!
(I do SO need to find a little home by the water)...
As we walked to have found the teeny little beehive that will shortly be my background picture on my top page. And to have Miss Punkie try to win the battle of the vines once more... And then RUN! like the wind... But all is not safe for the little dog back there when she runs so close to the water...
BRAKES BABY! ...And she barely stopped at the rivers edge...
OK.
No, so her 'brakes' did not work too well and she didn't quite stop...
(But took this opportunity to try to even catch a fish too)...
This water is a might bit chilly...
Ooooooooh! ch~ch~ch~illy!!!
And, swimming against the current, she did make it out.
(After realizing it wasn't so nice in the water as it had been in the woods)!
After getting tripped up on a submerged branch. She tried to dislodge it, but it was not going to let her do that...
This now soaking wet dog trying so very hard to pull that darned branch out!
In the meanwhile I am actually fearing that she will wind up in the middle of the river and more than a bit downstream; (and since I surely did NOT feel like jumping in to pull her out, I did make her 'give up' on that branch)... Which she begrudgingly, but faithfully, did...
Now climbing back up the ridge is always so good for my thighs! Yet I don't mind telling you that I did lean on the dog... twice, as I'd almost lost my balance! Coming back up to the top, Punk again checks for any signs of her Mama.
But there were none... And so home we came.
After getting back here, I realized that the little dog smelled quite like the river, (and that is NOT a good smell for my house)... And I had also realized that I hadn't showered since last year... hehehe Punk adamantly refused to join me. For her spunk~n~sass on that matter, she was sprayed with a bit of patchoulli oils and musk... (Now she smells like pot, but methinks I would rather have a dog smell like this instead of anything ickier).
...Ickier???... Like her Mama~ When Miss Milly finally decided to come home, she reeked to the high heavens. And most exactly like dead fish... So once more she will happily sleep on the pungent red cedar chips and shavings; (those chips have worked SO many miracles for this outside dog of mine)!
Of course all these odors are all seemingly magnified one~hundred~fold by this head of mine...
On again; off again.. On again; off again.. On again; off again..(ad nauseum)...
CaseyAnne called about 2 in the afternoon, and wished me a "Happy Happy" too! She also said that if my head wasn't completely gone tomorrow that she would bring me in early for a shot. (And even though her definition of 'early' and mine are NOT the same, I will probably be taking her up on that offer)!
I should try not to be commenting anywhere after I come home; although given the fact that I am addicted (and quite happily) to your blogs, I probably will anyway... (So, in advance, please forgive my incoherent thoughts should I happen to land on your blog and attempt to write anything after I have a shot)!
On that thought I shall close for now.
I hope you all have a 'wunnaful' Tuesday!
XOXO
Anne
Oh, and I have seen Mindys Blog, entitled "With Each New Day" Like so very many of you, she has such a beautiful way with words...
CLICK HERE if you want to 'happify' your life and your ego! It was such a grand way of ringing in 2007! And, I believe we would all be better persons if we could take on even a few of her ideas!
