Good Morning Everyone;

First of all, please keep Prattville, Alabama in your prayers... CLICK HERE
My son in law, his wife Lori and my grandson Lawrence live there...

And what a LONG day yesterday was for us.
I awoke shortly after 3. Casey came down about 4- Pain in her back, and a flare~up of her pancreas too. (More than a bit uncomfortable). Still, on a positive note, the holistic meds that Greg has found for her have shown a decent improvement in her chronic pancreatitis.
On Saturday evening, Greg had gone down to Sheboygan for his L.A.R.P. (Live Action Role Playing). Since the storm had not yet begun, he decided to come here when he was done with that. Casey and I were asleep and he played on the computer for quite a while until Casey woke. They talked for a long time.

About 4:45AM I heard the first "sneet" hitting the window in the living room.
("Sneet = snow + sleet).
Needing to go to Suamico for gas for my little snowplow, (and knowing what Mother Nature had in store for us), I decided to get ready to go. I also decided that since the roads would not get better for a long time that Greg might want to get back to Green Bay while he still could since he has to work this morning...
Casey chose to go with him, leaving her car here. (Safer that way).

.

By 8:00 WBAY-TV reported that there was an inch of sleet on the roads.
This, on Caseys car, just after the snow began...

.

I had "led" the way to Suamico shortly after 5AM.
Gregs car already with a layer of ice on it...
*****And Folks, ...if it's on your car, it's on the roads.

I kept the passenger side tires on the shoulder of the road. The snow and the gravel there providing much more traction than any part of the road could at that point. Punk, (in the passenger seat), would keep looking over at me. Perhaps because I was going so~o~o~o slow, or maybe because the shoulder of the road made for some very strange noise on the tires...

.

Knowing that my friend Kelli is never prepared for these little storms, I picked her up a pack of smokes while I was at the gas station; and dropped them in her mailbox on the way home. (She is much like me, and there is always a light on in the house). Still, I thought I saw movement within when I was at their mailbox.
Taking a chance, I pulled in their driveway.
Telling Punk to stay, I opened the door ~and immediately heard "Hello?"
hehehe
She WAS up! (And on her way out to feed the horses)!

.

Breezy and May-
Completely oblivious to the sleet,
patiently waiting for their breakfast

.

.

Mays mane almost looks like dreadlocks!

.

.

Kelli needed a few things from Suamico as well. By this time her car had a ton of ice on it. Mine was warm and cleared off. So back to Suamico we went in my car. Another slow trek...

.

But we were both home safe and sound by about 7:30...

Caseys car had changed a bit too.

.

.

And I did what any other snow worn Wisconsinite would do.
I tore my house apart.
But please do not misunderstand. I wore myself out tearing it apart. It still needs to be put back together!
hehehe
I did a few dishes. Took out the garbage and the recycles. Did a bit of dusting. And took a nap after I'd watched the snow obscure any view of anything outdoors.

When I awoke, everything had been magically transformed once again...

Even Caseys car...

.

Yes, it really IS under there!
.
.
.
.
.

Still laughing...
.
.
.
.

Anyone for a picnic?
Or a little Joe Pye Weed?
hehehe
.
.
.
.
.
.

My driveway is gone!
.
.
.
.
.

The little birdhouse has an added layer of insulation!
.
.
.
.
.

An added layer where I really didn't need it either...
.
.
.
.
.

Nor where Milly wanted it.
.
.
.
.

With a few cusswords for Old Man Winter, I picked up the shovel, (already with snow having relocated itself into my boots), and cleared out the front door...

And decided it was time to call the truck. I thank God once more for Jim!
He was here within the hour, and it took him about that long to clear the yard too. I dug myself into Caseys igloo car and got it running (with both defrosters going full blast).
I cleared her car off with a broom. (No way her little car sweeper would do this job)!
Then I started my own little plow while Jim was tackling the second driveway. I tried to clear most of the snow from around her car. Happy I have those chains on to deal with the darned ice under the nosw. Jim ended up having to pull the mother lode of snow away from her car, and I shoeveled the rest out from around the tires. Her car had been running for about 20 minutes at this point.
I still had to move the car with the door open so I could see, so thick was that ice...
But at least with the car moved, Jim could clear that part of the yard too.
He then widened the two driveways, cleared access tio the mailbox and was gone. I spent the next few hours trying to tidy up the yard. It also took me the better part of half an hour to get the ice off Caseys windows... But at least (for now), it is clean enough...

Almost every school in NE Wisconsin is closed. AND, they were closed already last night. Better that way so that parents can make arrangements for the kids...
They say the roads are still quite bad. I have an eye doctor appointment at one. Will have to leave early once again...

Last but not least, I want to thank those of you who worried right along with me and offered prayers for my family in Prattville last night...

Now just one question for you all...

Is it blasphemous or sacreligious for me to have laughed hysterically when I saw this?

.

Those of you who recall, know my BVM is about 20" tall,
and she generally looks like this...
.
.
.
EVEN IN WINTER!!!!
.
.
.
.
.

Have a safe and warm day!

Love to all!

XOXO
Anne

Prayers for Prattville, Alabama

Prattville, Alabama

As many of you know, my son in law, William, his wife Lori, and my grandson Lawrence, live in Prattville, Alabama.

It is Lawrence's Birthday today, and I spoke with both Lawrence and William this morning. All was well at that point...

This, just out minutes ago...

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Associated Press - February 17, 2008 9:53 PM ET
PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Severe weather is howling through much of the nation. There were damaging tornadoes in the South that injured nearly 30 people and freezing rain, snow and flooding in parts of the Midwest.
A tornado damaged or destroyed about 200 homes and businesses in Prattville, Alabama.
No fatalities were immediately reported, but two people were critically injured, according to fire officials. Twenty-seven people had minor injuries.
About 9,000 homes and businesses lost power in Prattville.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Neither Roberta nor myself have been able to make contact with anyone yet. I am guessing that this tornado has wiped out cell phone towers as well as land lines... And am waiting to hear anything.
For right now, I need to get off the computer.

At any rate, please keep them in your prayers.

Love to all.

XOXO
Anne

New this morning...

After calling almost everywhere she could think of, Roberta finally made contact with Williams sister in law late last night. (They live in Georgia, and thankfully have working phone lines).
They were also at Williams mothers to celebrate Lawrences birthday when the tornado struck.

(Thank God it was Lawrences birthday)...

Everyone is alright.

My son in law, William Gaither III, is a 'lifer' in the service to our country; having been in both the United States Marine Corp AND the United States Army.

I am sure he is busy with helping everyone else, and will be for the coming days/weeks.

God Bless him. William, I am MORE than proud!

God Bless the wonderful example he is setting for his sons, Blaine and Lawrence.

And God Bless everyone that this terrible storm has affected.

Miss Milly... as she generally looks at us all!

.

Good Morning ALL!

I finally mustered the energy to get my backside outside to plow the yard yesterday morning. It was kind of chilly too, 1 or 2 above zero, with a windchill of about 5 or 10 below. But I was dressed for it too. I called Jim so he could come with the truck and widen up a few of the snowbanks; especially at the end of the driveways.

I never thought I would despise the darned snow like I do right now. SO much of it. Everywhere.

Casey had a recheck appointment in the afternoon for her back- So I was gone when Jim got here, but he sure did a nice job.
Asplundh also came while we were gone and brought another truckload of wood chips for mulch.
(Kind of nice that even when I'm gone SO very much gets done)! hehehe

I awoke this morning to what??? About another inch and a half of snow.
Why am I not surprised anymore???

And the forecast you ask?
Already the bulletins are out for tomorrow...
Posted February 16, 2008
7 inches of snow expected Sunday
The Green Bay area may receive 7 inches of snow Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Ashwaubenon.
Residents should expect some periods of heavy snow with a high near 31 and a low around 13.
Periods of blowing snow are likely to occur Sunday night

— Press-Gazette

Blah. Blah. Blah...

I am SO tired right now.
Kind of a welcomed feeling, as I am generally "up and at 'em" once my eyeballs are open. But I think I will go back to bed in short order. I think the new pills that I talked about yesterday might be kicking in...

First though, I wanted to share with you first what happened to Miss Milly when she decided to take off on me the other day...

Punk and I had gotten in the car and had gone 'in search of' her wayward mama dog. I had gotten stuck on the Gravel Pit road...

And we did not find Miss Milly.
I checked at John and Ginny Ryans old place...
At Cathy Ryans.
At Paul Kaspers.

No Milly.

I drove around the block. (And yes, out here it is a very large block)!
Redwood to Big Sky to Pittco to B...

No Milly.

And I decided to go home.

Coming back over the hill, I pull up to my mailbox.
It is across the road from the house, and due to the indecent and illegal speed of the traffic through here, I quite literally take my life in my hands to get my mail.
So, many times I just pull up in the car, to the box...

As I have just come from the west, the mailbox is on my side of the car. The car is facing traffic, and I am as close as I can get to that box. (The snowbank prevents me from getting any closer).

I check the traffic.
Minimal.
So I roll down the window, and begin to pull mail out of the box.
(I hadn't gotten it for a few days, so there are about three good handfuls for me to grab).
There are two small envelopes in the back that I cannot reach without unfastening my seatbelt and leaning out of the window...
I do this, crack the door, and grab these two sassy notes.

Finished, I refasten my seatbelt, and look up.
There are about 7 cars, stopped, in front of me.

What the heck?

I check the side mirror... About the same number behind me.

What the heck?

This has never happened before. Many cars slow down and go around, but they never stop!

I look around, and see no reason why they would all be stopped

???

Suddenly, peeking over the hood of the car is Miss Milly!!!

Where she has come from is anyones guess, but I do have to get out and get her...

***Please remember that due to where the mailbox is, I might have all of about 5 inches or so clearance for my door where I am parked...

Unfasten seatbelt once more, and exhale.

I force my ribcage through the door, and manage to crawl out...
(I think this was sheer willpower and nothing more)

I grab the beast.
Somehow getting her into the backseat. (She hates being in a car)...

As soon as I do this, the cars clear.
I drive in the yard.
My heart rate lowers to normal, and all is well.

And I thank God that the 1st car to have spotted her decided to stop and wait.
That is all it ever takes you know, is for just one vehicle to stop, and traffic will stop from both ways.
At least that is how it seems to work around these parts.

Did Miss Milly care?

.

Not that I could tell...
.
.

Have a grand weekend!

I have to go nap a bit before my own weekend begins... and I must wake to plow the yard.
Sad that I shall be doing the same darned thing tomorrow too.
And with the winds Sunday night I shall do the same again on Monday...

...I quit.

Love to all.

I am sure that most that live north of "THE LINE" have seen this sign during/after a snowfall.

.

In addition to the above, the sign was also flashing this warning.

.

Good Morning ALL;

The roads were mighty bad yesterday morning... Plowed (maybe), unsalted, and so one needs to take their time. But this makes no difference to many people. (Unfortunately then, I have to be on the road with these dipsh!ts too).

As always there are any number of vehicles in the ditches on highway 41 - 141. But traffic was moving along, until I was about 2 and a half miles from my exit. Then all came to a stop.

.

As far as I could see were stopped/slowed cars...
.
.

Thinking fast enough to get off at this exit, (and having been going slow/fast enough to make the required lane change), I did manage to get to my appointment on time.

.

As I was on the ramp, I chanced to see the 'remains' of an earlier accident.

.

See ~middle, right, median...
I want to know who goes so fast in a snowstorm as to overturn their car?
Yup, read: "dipsh!t"

.

Having been in such a funk lately and finally calling the clinic to see my doctor, I have come to the conclusion that I am glad I am not a doctor.
As many of you know, I am hypothyroid, I have many migraines, and with the PTSD comes this godawful anxiety disorder. I also have a touch of arthritis. In addition I have developed a few hayfever type allergies over the past 10 or so years.
Blah. Blah. Blah.

And no, this is not a complain blog. Just a 'keep you informed' one.

I have been taking thyroid supplementation since shortly after Casey was born. I began with Synthroid, tried others, (even tried nothing for a few years); and most recently have been taking Armour Thyroid.
As it's name implies, Synthroid is synthetic.
Armour is a dessicated thyroid hormone replacement that is extracted from pig thyroid. (Kinda ucky to think about, but is the ONLY 'natural' thyroid replacement on the market). It does not leave me feeling as 'speedy' as the synthetic ones either.

For all of these things above I take meds daily, or as needed.
**Armour Thyroid 90mg

**Paroxetine (aka Paxil) for anxiety/panic 40 mg Side effects are weight gain, and brain fog...

**Migraines meds as needed, to include, (but not limited to), Maxalt, Fiorinal w/ Codeine.
(I prefer the fiornal because the maxalt makes me feel SO hyper).

**Vicoden for my back as needed when the arthritis flares up. (And this winter has NOT been nice to that either).
On a personal note, I refuse to take any of the arthritis medications like Vioxx and Celebrex for this.
The simple pain pills were good enough for my mom and many others; and too many people have died taking those newfangled pills.
"Better to know the devil" as they say...

**Alprazolam -Xanax- for if/when I have to go anywhere, or if/when I have anxiety attacks at home.

~~~Back to my "funk".
**I have been thinking "Why am I so freakin' depressed all the time?"
And have been forcing myself to do things for a long time.
Getting to the woods, playing with the dogs has been something of late, that I 'make' myself do.
And yes, it is partly because of how completely long and depressing this winter has been.
Yet I felt this way even before winter set in...
Even before I broke my stupid foot.
**I have been having a definite problem forcing myself to sleep though. hehehe
**I have also gained a few pounds.
Gratefully, I am tall enough to afford to do this (a bit); but unless I was expecting, I have never had a problem with my weight before.
Note: I have also had a complete hysterectomy, and had my gallbladder removed ~gallbladder disease~ when I was 26.
With BOTH of these surgeries I was told to expect to gain anywhere between 10 and 25 pounds. (It didn't happen).
So off I go to the doctor yesterday. He orders a CBC, a chem panel, and a thyroid panel.
He also put me on Topamax, 25mg pills to be taken twice daily, (to increase to 50 mg twice daily in two weeks).
I have tried this drug before, and saw no change with my headache frequency or intensities.
Hmmm ~I guess I will be trying it again.
After what Casey went through last week, (<--click) I did run a check on any potential drug interactions.
The worst is the paroxetine and the maxalt. (The rest don't really get mixed). No wonder I feel like I drank a couple POTS of expresso when I take the maxalt... So hopefully the topamax will eliminate the need for the maxalt and it won't be a problem.
I got home from my appointment, let the dogs out, and took a LONG nap on the couch... (and no, I didn't even have to try, just kind of tipped over and slept)...
...Back to what I had thought was some kind of depression...
~When I brought this up, the doctor sort of smiled and said he guessed not. Said it is probably my thyroid doing nasty things again.
WHY THE HECK DIDN'T THAT EVEN CROSS MY MIND???
I am not that much of a pessimist for cryin' out loud...
The Paxil (also an antidepressant), makes me a slug; so if there is anything 'off with my thyroid, it will exacerbate that all. ~And I didn't even think of this???
With that first Topamax I took yesterday with my lunch, (and that nice 'nap' that followed), I missed my only "Valentine" call; and of course I also missed the doctor calling to talk about my thyroid test. He said he will call back today. I'd better get off the line. (Besides, I do have to get out and shovel).
So please bear with me.
Give this all time to work, and maybe I shall be a bit "NORMALLER" soon.
hehehe
Love to ALL! I hope you all have a "normal" Friday!!!
XOXO
Anne
The 'pit' road...
.
Good Morning, and 'Happy Hearts Day' to ALL!
What a day yesterday was...
And of course we have another half a foot of new snow coming today.
Between the winter snow (so far), and the awful fact that I seem to have MORE than my fair share of 'cabin fever', it dawned on me that the old saying is true.
"Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures"...
.
Me !!!
.
And yes, I am on these...
.
Once upon a time, Mama studied at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary
... and made these gems!
The lacing on the one on the right not quite finished...
But fully functional too.
.
.
They DO work wonders to get me back to the woods.
Unfortunately though, the dogs are on their own...
.
.
And they have a problem, sans snowshoes of their own, remaining on TOP of the snow.
.
The Punkster got stuck multiple times...
.
.
.
Miss Milly not so often...
.
But she did manage to get stuck a few times too!
.
.
.
Not so deep back by the woods...
.
.
.
.
They have a great time playing "Hide and Seek" too
.
Milly "hiding"
.
.
Punk! Looking for Mama!
.
.
Which is EXACTLY what I had to do once we got back up to the house. (More on that tomorrow).
At one point, Milly decided she wanted my snowshoes, and firmly planted herself on my snowshoes. AND, then refused to move! After begging her to do so, she finally decided to "cheat"... She simply ran to the neighbors and ran up their driveway. Punk and I took our time heading back.
By the time we got home, Milly was nowhere to be found. I decided to go insearch of the wayward dog, and packed up The Punk in the car. And drove up the road.
There is a gravel pit road about 1/2 a mile west. It once was our access to the back forty. Since this road was always used during the winter months, I turned onto it, and drove due south.
And wound up MORE than a bit 'stuck' myself. (That is the road, by the back forty, in the topmost photo).
I still had my snowpants on, so I wouldn't have minded walking...
It took me about 15 minutes of 'rocking' to get out of there. I had to reverse all the way out too. (About 1/5th of a mile).
Nasty that.
Punk didn't like it much either, and had a bit of 'the drool' going by the time I got ut of there.
Now, I have a doctor appointment in an hour. Many schools are closed, and the rest will close after lunch I am sure. The snow is already coming down, and about 3" are down already. I have to leave very soon if I am to get there on time...
YOKES!!! (Wish me luck)!
Special Valentine Love for ALL! Make it perfect by telling those you care about that you love them! And give them a hug from me too!
XOXO
Anne
Remember the Magic...
Imagine you are living in 1950...
You have been married for about 8 months, and Saint Valentine's Day rolls around.
You are basically still on your honeymoon; even at the ages of 38 and 33, you are rolling in the love of it all.
You have waited, patiently... Many, many years for this day to be yours.
You are living paycheck to paycheck on a dairy farmers wage, and there is no money left over for the little trinkets that you would love to surprise your Sweetheart with... And as yet, there is little commercialism to this holiday.
As it should be, it is a day of sentiment and love...
You have happily accepted this, and reconciled yourself to loving each other.
...A few extra kisses in the morning, and you come downstairs for the coffee before you head outside.
All is still dark in the house, and saving electricity too, you turn on very few lights.
You go downstairs to stoke up the wood/coal furnace so the house will be warm enough to get changed in.
You have that cup of coffee in the kitchen as it begins to get light out.
Wanting to know just how very cold it is, you walk into the living room to see the thermometer on the tree on the front lawn.
Your windows are old, and so many times Jack Frost visits and draws beautiful masterpieces upon your windows.
Combined with the fact that at times you can feel the breeze on the inside of the house, and it is still chilly, the windows on this morning are particularly decorated.
And on this morning, you have trouble seeing through some of them to see the temperature hanging on the outside...
And then you find one that is almost clear...
...perhaps because of the heat register beneath it.
Looking past the 'painted' window pane, you check the temperature...
Then, as you back away from the window, your brain is finally registering what your eyes have just seen...
In its own glory it is almost unbelievable!
A special gift from God, and sent for you both!
If anyone has a more special, true, and unique story than this of the magic of the deepest Faith and Love, I will LOVE to hear it.
We need to take back to the magic of our lives and our love.
.
Remembering clearly that Dad would always say he "liked" Mom a whole lot, but that he didn't 'love' her.
When I was old enough to question him on it, I did just that... and his explanation floored me then, as it does even more~so now...
He quietly explained... that from what he saw of what was to pass for 'love' these days, that he wanted NO PART of that. And so he LIKED her more than enough.
I am thinking this was the wisest man I have ever known...
I am also thinking that they were
~(& still are)~
so very happy together!
Love to ALL of my family and friends !
What are you lookin' at???
Good Morning All;
I hope this finds you safe and warm...
6° ABOVE zero right now... And heading to the mid~teens.
Heat wave!?! hehehe
Dangit, Cherei STOP laughing!
(She laughs at my weather)...
Click her name, (note that she lives in San Antonio)!
thanks beep.
But of course this 'break' from the sub-zero temps for us comes with a price. We will be getting more snow. Not too sure where I will put it all either, (my snowbanks are getting pretty high)!
I think maybe it is time for my Punkster to be earning her keep.
.
But she was a bit alarmed when I posed that to her too!
hehehe
"Who?
Me?!?"
.
As you can tell by the stock in the top photo, even the cattle have their winter coats on.
And apparently their attitudes too; (those few looking at Casey as if she might be the grim reaper)!
I have been having a hard time keeping Miss Milly indoors too. She stays out in the entrance so she doesn't get too overheated.
Although I did bring her out to her kennel yesterday when I just couldn't listen to her whining anymore.
And what does she do when it is 2° below zero? She just laid in the snow. Never mind that the sun was shining, (it sure didn't make THAT big of a difference in the temps). She is just weird like that.
.
.
Caseys boyfriend, Greg, has become quite a nice person to have around.
He is charming, smart, (kinda cute too).
He is also not afraid to pitch in and help out either.
He even helped to shovel the snow!
AND, he saved Caseys sneakers from being shredded!
Miss Milly said she didn't do it!
Said she was laying on the landing the whole time!
Liar!!
Greg said he still loved stinky Miss Milly;
~and also said he needed a new pair of sneakers anyway!
Hmm...
(But then again, he also said he needed a facewash the other evening)...
.
.
.
And I was more than happy to oblige!
.
.
.
Ok, OK...
Maybe he didn't really ask for it...
But knows he cannot ever take his eyes off a potential attacker either.
But see???
...I told you snow can be fun!
(REALLY funny)!
.
Anyway, Casey is off work til at least Friday.
With respect to all of her other medical problems, she has also learned that she has inherited the very popular "Menard Family back"-
She must "take it easy" for these next few days.
What??
NO shoveling?!?
Methinks the thought of not shoveling makes her a little TOO happy!
And life goes on...
Today I will be fighting with my little Cub Cadet...
...Those previously mentioned snowdrifts were being very stubborn the other day. (I might have hit a chunk of frozen solid ice in one of those banks as I tried to widen the sides of the driveway)...
That damn little lawn tractor tried to violently throw me off when it so suddenly stopped. (Not funny).
And the blade angle lever quit working immediately.
It has since been calling my name. As it is to be a bit warmer today, I shall try to fix it before we get these next few inches of snow.
Hope all is well, and warm, in your little corner of the world.
Love to all!
XOXO
Ugh...
Good Morning;
Not too sure what is going on and all, but I know my heart hasn't been into doing all I should with respect to my family and friends on 360, and on here.
I know too it has been a raunchy winter for us, (and not only with respect to the weather either); and I am guessing that maybe I am just tired of it all...
So hang onto me, or delete me, as you wish.
Just thought I would give you the respect that you deserve and let you know I am just not up to par for now.
My Love to all;
XOXO
Anne
