Our Easter Week(end)...

~

Good Morning Everyone;
Hope your Easter weekend was special.
Mostly we just lazed around... Kind of a nice thing to do.
(And it compliments this malaise I seem to have of late so very well)!

The picture above, taken a few months back, but oh so appropriate after our visit to the vet on Friday.
When Doc Spires called for Punk, she headed straight for the exit!!!
(Don't even try
to tell me that dogs don't have the power of recall)!
Once IN the exam room, this 93 pound beast of mine then tried her level best to "hide" under a chair...
Didn't work.
But with the exception of a small tear yet in that third eyelid, she is good to go.
Say "YAY!"

Now for CaseyFace...
A rough weekend for her; and yet, she was bound and determined that she would make our meal last night.
She made garlic chicken, mashed potatoes, and for the veggie, green beans!
So very yummy! (Poor kid paid for it later, but it was so good too)!

One of you has asked for the specific medical language from her hospital report, so here it is, condensed:

..."There is a small nonspecific low density lesion in the right lobe of the liver, which is too small to characterize."

This was done sans contrast dye. They wanted to see if there were any areas of calcification within the pancreas, and the dye would have made those areas harder to see.

On another page then...
"Focal linear opacity in perihilar central right lung, suggestive of atelectasis, (new since 11/10/07). Left lung remians clear. Mild bilateral apical thickening."
"CONCLUSION: Mild central right perihilar subsegmental atelectstasis."

(This now, from her ECG)...

Sinus tachycardia.

Nonspecific ST abnormality

***ABNORMAL ECG

When compared with ECG of 10-NOV-2007.

**Nonspecific T wave abnormality evident in inferior leads.

**Nonspecific T wave abnormality evident in Anterolateral leads

So, there you have it.

With special thanks to my friend WYCK, who has translated a few items for me.

I still do not understand the 'lingo' for her ECG/EKG; the ST waves, and the T waves. (But I have no problem whatsoever understanding the word "ABNORMAL").

Oh, and with respect to both her ECG and her CT Scan, where the writer has used the word "nonspecific"...
I also have no problem believing that this concise medical explanation is to be interpreted in laymans terms as "we really don't know what the heck it all is/means."
Translation:
Cover your @ss, doctors.

Caseys doctor is back from Brazil, thank God. He called last night to be updated on all things that happened in his absence. Not a direct quote here, but he did tell Casey how relieved he was that she 'could get to Froedtert because frankly Green Bay does not have the knowledge or the resources to care for her properly.'
Ya think?
Friday will not come soon enough...

As for me...
Anxiety attacks seem to be thriving just fine this Spring. My immodium has been my best friend for almost the past week.
HAHA, big joke that...
Newsflash: It doesn't work.
Holy crap!
I should be plugged up 'til September at the earliest.
Instead I am considering buying stock in Charmin...
Um, have I ever mentioned that there is only one toidy in this house?
(The way I see it, that is one of the best reasons for me never to get married again).

Scenario(s) here:
Picture these if you will...

Casey,
...barfing.

Me,
stepping on the cat,
jumping hurdles over the dog,
and pushing my poor sick child down the steps to get her out of my way...
hehehe
OK, it really wasn't like that.
But(t) only because I had dibs on "The Throne" for this past week...

And life goes on...
Desperate times calling for desperate measures, I found myself rummaging through the cupboard... and finding a very old prescription of mine for Lonox.
Since Casey has the generic of this, (AND a more recent prescription), she offered me one of hers.
HAHA
Didn't work.
As I continued to spend the better part of my waking hours behind that closed door, I was finally talked into taking another.

The 2nd one I took 'seems' to have done the job...
(No pun intended Berta).

Time will tell.

Have a "wunnaful" Monday; my love to all.

XOXO
Anne

Good Afternoon All;

First of all, to let you all know I am still having a very hard time navigating anywhere on Multiply. It takes forever for your pages to come up and to load and to go to a next blog or to look at anything. Please forgive me for not getting around as I once did back in the old days of our 360 world. You are all still so very special to me. And to those that I can still get to your blogs on 360, I say Thank you!

And on to my blog...

I apologize for not writing; having just been so very tired. Also having had to keep myself off the phone line too, as we waited (and waited) for just one magical return phone call from Froedtert.
I cannot begin to tell you how many times I repeated Caseys story to anyone willing to listen to me down there.
Thank goodness they have an 800 number.
Only one person that answered wanted (demanded) to give me the direct number to the GI Clinic.
Refusing that, she then wanted to know WHY I wanted to talk to them-
(Sorry lady, even I know your job is NOT to prequalify anyone)...

Mostly though, I got sent to a lot of voice mails and promptly forgot how to act when a real LIVE person came on the line!
hehehe

Yes, I will be bringing her down next Friday... Earlier if her pain returns.

Wait. She still has pain.
I brought her to the clinic yesterday. The hospital had only given her a few days worth of the Oxycontin and Oxycodone anyway. Her regular doctor is still out of town, and we met another very nice doctor who actually took the time to familiarize himself with Caseys medical history, and with the latest "erred" record from St. Marys Hospital here in town.
(And I use the term "erred" lightly)...

Yes, I get angry about all of this, because there have been so many times that I have felt so very helpless just watching as the medical profession has done little or nothing.
'Jewel' said it best... "My whole goal is to keep my spirit intact. If that doesn't happen, none of this is worth it."

Due to the nature of the beast inside of Casey, they now have switched her to two different types of morphine. Like the Oxy drugs she was on, one is longer acting, one is shorter. But hallelujah, they seem to be working a bit better for her pain too!

She has an unknown spot on her liver.
Also something in the right midsection of her right lung too. (This is nowhere near to where they had done the pleurodesis or the partial removal of her lung either).

Too many questionable things that they failed to even inform us of.

Her ECG had come back 'abnormal' as early as her trip to the ER- And had remained UNCHANGED as she had that crushing pain in her chest and that seizure. (The episode where they tried to tell us it was anxiety)? Yeah, I don't think so!
WTF???
(Sorry, but I am so far past trying to be nice)...
CLICK HERE if you missed that story.

This happened the night before they released her???
What in Gods name were these 'professionals' thinking?
Or am I wrong to be concerned,
(mountains out of molehills and all that)?
>sigh< I am simply losing my mind...

Of course I also wonder WHY on earth her own father has not contacted/visited her?
(I called his work when no one would answer at his home or even his cell).
And what of her two eldest sisters?
(Oh yes, they know. I raised them better than that, this blog is open, and they are NOT stupid).
This is NOT the time to be playing your childish, petty, and stupid games!

~~~
As I woke yesterday and after the sun had come up, I realized I had to get out of the house (or do the damn dishes).
hehehe
I chose the walk to the woods with the dogs. After all, it has been over that magical 32 degree mark for a while during the days here, and we have also had enough sunshine to remove a bit of the depth of the snow.
As it was early and still chilly, I put the old snowpants on anyway, and the snowmobile boots...
.
.
Mama Milly runs way ahead of Punk and I...
The Punk always has to turn around as if to ask me, "Why so slow?"
.
.
Miss Milly, way back by the woods...
(And, I think, with the ball she had left there 2 weeks ago)!
.
.
While Punk waited for me to catch up, she inspected a furrow...
Nothing too interesting...
.
.
.
So she comes running back to me to tell me to "HURRY!"
The snow was still quite deep in places.
I tried to stay on top of the plowed furrows.
.
.
Part of the river is actually open!!!
Milly, actually is down in the weeds (lower left quad) in this picture.
And even with my coaxing, Punk would NOT go down.
.
.
Maybe her STICK INCIDENT is still too fresh in her mind.
And she wasn't about to be taking any chances.
(
Click here if you don't know what happened to her eye)
Her eye does seem fine.
Though I still must bring her in for her recheck.
.
.
Staggering back home about an hour later~ Hey, what can I say??? I'm out of practice fighting snowbanks and all ...between my extreme back pain, and the lack of snowfall. (No Mother Nature, this is NOT a complaint)!
So, I actually took a break. Realizing a bit too late that sitting down was something that I should not have done with respect to my stupid back, I jokingly told Punk to "go get Casey"...
.
.
...And she was off like a shot!
But returned just as quickly,
She must've realized she had no opposing thumb to open the door.
hehehe
.
.
In the meanwhile, her wandering Mama Milly had disappeared off to places unknown once more.
I have no idea where she goes; and as I stumbled back into the yard, I got into Caseys car and drove down the road looking for this wandering spirit of a dog that I have.
No luck...
But she did return home about 45 minutes later...
I'd better close for now and get busy. I believe I have about 9 months of dishes to do. (OK, maybe it only looks like that)... And of course my ever present, and beckoning laundry hamper.
Time for me to fly!
I hope you are all having a wunnaful, warm week.
My love to all.
XOXO,
Anne
Casey. Re: An Open Letter to St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay...
.
.
(For the hospital staff who cared for my daughter)...
Good Morning;
I have a few questions for you.
On March 8th, 2008, in the very early morning, Casey was admitted to your hospital, experiencing yet another flare~up of pancreatitis.
She was discharged over a full week later, on March 16th.
During the course of these 8+ days, she was told to eat as tolerated.
She was then told not to eat.
She was then told to eat anything but fats.
She was then told to eat only a liquid diet, but then added starches.
She was treated for her #10 pain.
First by IV, then by pill.
(Not a problem until you take into consideration all of the nausea she was experiencing).
Her nausea was treated like her pain.
First by IV, then by pill.
Then by nothing. ?!?!?
She infiltrated ALL of her IV's.
No surprise there, as she is 21, so she MUST receive an adult sized IV, right? (These, even AFTER she requested pediatric IV's).
*Note to you all...
Over the course of the past two and a half+ years, she has had over a dozen surgeries, and literally 100's of IV's.
So too it should come as no surprise to anyone that SHE KNOWS WHAT WORKS, and what does not.
(But your nurses knew better)!
CaseyAnne is allergic to any tape, save for tagaderm.
(Here again, she actually KNOWS what works, and what does not).
Paper tape and plastic, hypo~allergenic, and all the others, only leave her covered with hives...
(Again, your nurses knew better)!
I watched, twice, as your nurses actually ARGUED with Casey, telling her that NOBODY was allergic to these tapes.
WTH?
Wrong.
(And THOSE were only the times that I was in attendance)...
Please do not even get me started on that suppository again.
(CLICK for that story).
You have once again treated her symptoms.
(Nothing special there, folks).
Should the truth must be known, what she really needs is for someone to actually treat her illness, her failing pancreas.
(And in this day and age, I do not feel this is too much to ask of our advanced medical profession)!
I do not believe it is too much to ask for a call back from Froedtert either.
  • For your doctors... (Did they/he even call)?
  • For my daughter. (She has called for the past few months).
  • Or for myself. (I am almost positive they do NOT want MY call today). Trust me on that.
Furthermore, I do not believe that it was too much to ask for a DOCTOR to have signed her discharge papers yesterday?
How very odd that these were signed only by a nurse)?!?
I truly must get out from under my rock.
Oddly enough, she was released LESS THAN 24 HOURS after experiencing crushing chest pain, an inability to breathe, and we all watched as her entire body shook and trembled for the better part of an hour.
She was given lovenox for any possible blood clot, and also given atavan.
(Not sure of the atavan, as I have only heard of it on "House").
Will have to look it up. Probably was for the seizure and the tremors.
Thankfully, her chest CT was negative for clots.
So, what of this terrible pain in her chest?
Did she miraculously recover overnight?
(Because according to her, it still hurts on and off, and she told you this before she was discharged).
What of the FACT that her heart rate has been 110+bpm for the past three+ weeks, and soaring over 200bpm many times, even at rest???
And why do medical personnel, nurses and doctors alike, brush this off as "medically~insignificant" ?
And if you, as her first line of treatment, have NOT listened to her, how the effing hell can we expect someone else to?
  • Yes, she is home.
    Yes, she is in pain.
    Yes, she is taking your meds as prescribed.
    (And yes, I will be making those phone calls)...
________
On the bright side...
...Her homecoming made more than one person very happy...
.
.
The ever~vigilant and tender Greg.
It was he who spent each and every night in the chair at her side.
.
.
Jenny Mella!
And Mister Sputty too!
.
.
The Punkster-
Who was VERY happy to get her back scratched!
.
.
Even if she missed a spot!
.
(Brave girls, wearing white socks on my floors)!
.
.
But yes, there ARE worse things than dirty grey white socks...
Love to all.
Casey and her "Luckier" Bear~
~yesterday afternoon
.
Good morning;
I will not last long here because I am seeing aura even now. I need to sleep a bit more and hope the migraine does not take hold for long...
But first to let you know what happened last night.
I received a frantic call from Berta.
Casey had been complaining of severe chest pain and shortness of breath.
Within a few moments she had begun shaking from head to toe.
The doctor immediately called for a portable chest xray-
When the Xray people got to Caseys room, Roberta and Greg were shown out immediately...
Suddenly the doctor and many more nurses were paged to KC's room.
Berta called me again, -if I thought her 1st call was frantic, I was wrong...
But with this 2nd call, I was on my way without doing any of the things that normal people do when they leave their homes. (I might have broken a speed law or two, and I might have stopped and then gone through a red light to get there faster).
By the time I got to her room there were still three nurses and a doctor present. They had already also run an EKG, which was normal- save for her heart rate being so high.
Incidentally, her heart rate has been over 110 for the last few weeks. When I have asked these health people about that, they have always dismissed it saying, it's this, that or the other thing...
Making me wonder now.
Greg and Roberta had been allowed back into her room...
.
.
Greg and CaseyAnne
This photo speaks volumes...
.
.
Remember that IV they said they could not 'do' another of? She now had two running!
One for anesthesia, and one for the atavan and something else.
Thinking she may have a blood clot in her lungs, they had also given her an injection of lovenox to her tummy.
My longtime wonderful friend Lynn, (who is also Caseys Godmother), came almost immediately; even Randy showed up. We were all so worried sick...
After what seemed an interminable wait, she was taken to xray for a CT Scan.
Another LONG wait before being told it was negative for blood clots.
Why is it that all this stuff seems to happen in slow motion; and yet when the doctors are talking to you, it seems as though they are chattering... ???
And now the task begins to show what may be causing the pain in her chest, and the body tremors.
Perhaps I shall nap a bit before I head back up there.
I hope you are all having a good weekend.
My thanks and my love to all.
XOXO
Me
My Blanket~Hidden Child
Just a few quick words here.
I am typing in the darkened hospital room as CaseyAnne gets a few moments of sleep.
She seems so very still like this... that at times I have to listen, and ever so quietly, for her to breathe.
They have removed her Iv's but have left them in her arm for now.
She is on 2 oxy~something drugs by mouth; even though they have told her that she may no longer eat anything.
She is in awful pain, curled up; into this little blanket covered ball...
In a way, she has almost allowed the goddamn, unrelenting, pain to win.
NOT ON MY WATCH.
She has begun to feel as though she is a burden to those of us who love her; and has stated that she does not care to go on like this.
I worry more now for what the constant pain has done to her mental health, as much as what the trapped enzymes have done to her pancreas during this past LONG week for her...
Still for now, she sleeps.
So still.
May her dreams ALL be good and sweet ones.
I do love her so. Pray.
Ummm... "Refreshing Ice" ?!?!
Is Kwik Trip kidding?
(Or just idiotic)?
hehehe
Personally, I am quite tired of "Refreshing"
(And yes, we have had some fluffy white 'refreshment' overnight).
And I think that little bit broke the record for all time seasonal snowfall
NOT THAT I CARE!
?
.
Good Morning ALL;
I remain completely moved by those of you that have taken of your time and hearts to leave comments and notes for us; to offer your prayers and thoughts, and to share of your own lives and experiences.
And I also know it is asking a lot, but please keep 'em coming! We enjoy all of your thoughts.
I have no more news than I had the last time I wrote.
Casey remains hospitalized in severe pain, seemingly uncontrolled by her meds.
She still has bouts of nausea too.
She had the Froedtert ordered CT Scan of her pancreas yesterday morning. The doctor reported within a few hours back to her.
(And yes, we are in Green Bay at this time; she will transfer to Froedtert when they have a solid plan for her).
Yesterdays CT Scan showed nothing out of the ordinary.
(While that is always a good thing, it only further confounds the mystery of her illness too).
And it is very disheartening to STILL be hearing "we do not know" ...
1. what is causing this...
2. what the answers are...
3. what the cure may be...
...after two years of this for her.
Personally, I would have her rechecked for CF. That would explain many, many of her symptoms and illnesses.
I do not know if there are many false negatives for that sweat test she had.
(But you can count on the fact that I will find out).
Miss Punk seems to be alright; although the discharge from her eye seems to be changing to a yucky color indicative of infection. Not sure if this is normal- I have been putting her gentamicin eye drops in religiously. I will call Dr. Spires early today and see what he says. There is not a lot of discharge, but what is there is raising a flag for me.
As for myself... As of last Saturday morning, my middle back has been killing me. This is a first for me. I have a touch of arthritis in my lower back, and the neck pain too. But my mid back has always been fine.
I attributed it to the fact that I was probably shaking like a leaf while I drove The Punk to the vet the day before, and then sped off to get Casey to the clinic too. And I don't think that shaky feeling went away til I fell asleep that night...
Upon waking on Saturday, it felt as though I had been kicked in the middle of my back... And it has had the nerve to get progressively worse. What the hey???
.
.
He might be hiding now,
but I swear, as soon as I find that jackass that kicked me
I shall send his smug sorry soul straight to the soap factory too!
hehehe
(Photo stolen from Sesame Ellis on Flickr).
.
.
But isn't he cute!
I'd better close for now- Casey has just called, and has received both bolus on her pain meds and her phenergan and still has terrible pain and nausea. She said not to come up though as she does not want to wake Greg who is alseep in the fold out chair in the room.
I feel so very impotent...
Love to you
Outside the Box...
Outside the Box...
Another day in the life...
.
I woke up on the wrong side of the couch today.
Almost instinctively, the dog knew this, and gave me much less of her usual morning grief.
~The doctor at St. Marys Hospital  was not as intuitive as the dog...
Damn shame, eh?
But I will begin with Casey.
Know that today has been the worst day of her bout thus far...
Yesterday I had left the hospital about noon.
In the afternoon, one of her 'brilliant' nurses asked her if she had had a bowel movement.
Casey said 'no', and tried to explain that with dilauded being a class 2 narcotic this is not unusual for her.
The nurse 'harumphed' (or whatever the hell you wish to call it), left the room; returning within the hour with a suppository.
Casey told her simply that she didn't want it.
Nurse, (apparently the one in charge of a$$e$), told her it was not an optional thing.
WTH?
NOTE: Casey is sick, and does not have the fight within to argue at this point.
She gets the suppository.
Please keep in mind that this same little girl has been barfing since last tuesday, (and had diarrhea for the remainder of the week before she was admitted to the hospital).
Also know that just because she has been allowed to eat does NOT mean she can even finish one stupid pancake without throwing the damned thing up.
So now, tiny, sick, patient not only has a severe pancreatitis attack, and the dry heaves; she is fighting off these terrible spasms in her bum.
And more, and more, and more, of the unforgiving, unrelenting pain.
When I walked in to her room this morning I happened to catch the doctor there,(gee, he was early today)...
Choosing an opportune moment, (or not), I asked,
"Whose brainchild was it to give CaseyAnne a suppository yesterday afternoon?"
(To say he never saw this coming would be a definite understatement).
Or perhaps the nurse had a problem reading and/or comprehending...
I told him I have a 7 year old granddaughter who could even figure THAT out.
Diarrhea.
Vomiting.
NPO x 2 days.
(Doesn't leave a whole heck of a lot left to be evacuated, now does it)?
But yeah, it did piss me off.
After stating my concerns, in no uncertains terms, he said 'that was not the way it had been presented to him.'
Yes, he seemed more than a bit upset too.
(And yes, I did note his own b/p on the rise as I explained it all on an 8~year~old~level).
Although very professional, I did note just the tiniest neck constriction, the 'setting' of his jaw, and a few other subtle nuances.
Our bodies DO betray our words if only we know what to look for.
A few minutes after he had left the room, a different nurse had come in while I was talking to Casey.
I chose to ask that nurse point blank who was "on" yesterday afternoon; who had given Casey the suppository?
(Of course she had no idea).
But at least she offered to get the Charge Nurse to the room.
We then explained it all to Charge Nurse.
(How very unfortunate that she had to apologize for the idiocy of that other nurse).
Hmmm... Where's the damned accountability?
But I am thinking that perhaps the next time one questions whether or not a patient may be a bit, ahem, 'retentive', that the first order of business would be to actually look at the patients chart, to read it, to try to comprehend it; and if you still do not understand then to ask the patient?
And I DO understand that Casey is in the Oncology Dept of the hospital.
Yet again, other than her pancreas, she is a healthy 21 year old.
They need to remember that not all patients fall into the same neat little box.
Still, about that couch...
MINE...
... (The one with the wrong side, that is)...
I received no call back from Froedtert yesterday.
WTH? x 2...
Knowing that Casey has been calling there for a few months, and that my own call yesterday had gone unreturned, I called once more this morning.
And of course I got the good doctors voice mail.
I might have stated that today was Caseys worst day of the bout thus far, and that perhaps he might have a minute to even speak with her doctor at the hospital.
(Lord knows I have given him more than enough numbers to call)...
I may have ended with "you might at least have the common decency to tell us why we cannot even get a return call from you."
Casey called about an hour ago.
Froedtert would like to have a new abdominal CT run. (They are looking for any areas of possible calcification?).
Those results will be sent to Froedtert.
They would also like to do a repeat ERCP.
And to possibly have to redo her Sphincter of Oddi cuts.
They would do this abdominally instead of through her stomach, as it gives them a much better view of anything else that might be causing this all for her.
Pray please.
And no, that doctor from Froedtert did NOT call me.
Now, why do I find that so very very funny???
Other than all this, not too much other news.
.
.
Punk with Mama Milly.
I really think they were dancing!
.
.
Punks eye is healing, but kind of gross too.
Another little piece of wood worked its way out yesterday morning.
But that just tells me that it is working as it should too.
She does have sight in that left eye-
But who knows how many of me she sees too?
(Poor little dog)!
Dr. Spires (her vet), even called on Monday to find out how she was doing.
I told him I would bring her in for her recheck as time permitted with respect to Casey- He understood completely, and will see her any time then, in another week or so.
.
.
Poor little "Stick Puppy"...
.
.
My yard is a virtual mudbath; (and if it was a bit warmer out there I could really enjoy that)!
Yes, (knock on wood), it is finally warming up. And so my snowdrifts are slowly but steadily going down.
My dehumidifier seems to be working very well, and the basement no longer smells like an old musty cave.
(The fact that it still looks like an old cave is beside the point).
The front porch still needs clearing off.
(Not a priority anymore).
I'd better close for now. Maybe even get a little shuteye myself.
I nap, but it doesn't even seem like I sleep... wonder what's up with that?
Anyway, to use an old phrase from Red Skelton, "Good Night, and God Bless"
Love to all.
And many MANY heartfelt thanks to you who have visited, read, and offered your own thoughts, prayers, love, and support for us all.
XOXO
Anne
Mondays Casey Update
Mondays Casey Update
333 magnify
Roberta and Casey at St. Marys
Roberta has been up to the hospital, by Caseys side ever since...
.
.
Good Monday Morning;
I have not yet heard anything from the hospital, so am thinking that Casey might still be asleep, or has been too busy with all the nurses that run in and out all the time...
Her bloodwork, (amylase and lipase), came back much better yesterday than they were before; so once again they have treated her pain and not her pancreas.
I put a call in already this morning to Dr Joshua Knox down at Froedtert.
I know Casey has contacted him any number of times in the past few weeks with no return call. Perhaps with my message this morning he will call. ? Hmm...
And if not, then my next message might not be as nice. His problem, not mine.
Oh well.
The doctor at the hospital at least allowed her to eat a little something yesterday. Not sure if that is real good for her pancreas, but I do know it is good for her psyche. And as far as her pancreas goes, I don't think eating will be doing it as much harm as her body does to it anyway!
I AM SO Freakin' SICK AND TIRED OF THIS ALL!
And I can only IMAGINE how frustrated Miss Casey is made to feel about it...
I try.
Must fly for now.
I hope you all are having a great day.
Love to all.
Oh, Mama Milly and Miss Punk say "hi" too!
As they wait for Casey to come home!
Mama Milly has taken to barking incessantly;
so has been wearing her 'bark' collar once more for a few days.
(Or shall I call it her "quiet" collar)?
Good (late) evening;
First of all to thank everyone who wrote to send their prayers and love. I apologize for not having the energy to respond to everyone at this point in time; but please know how much your Faith is appreciated.
As I'd written the entry about my little Miss Punk yesterday (this) morning, Casey had IM'd me, saying how much pain she was in, that it was also interfering with her breathing as it radiated through to her back.
She has had this pain so very often as of late. And yes, it was high time to go to the hospital,
if for no other reason than for a 2nd opinion.
She had stayed in town last night, and so Greg had brought her to the hospital.
As I was finishing up my blog, Kelli's hubby Tim pulled in the yard. (I only have one phone line here, and Casey had my cell).
I knew even before I opened the door that the ER doctors had decided to keep her (and her damnable pancreas) there.
She will have another blood draw in the morning.
She will also have a head CT.
She has had too many migraines, and too many dizzy episodes lately;
these, in addition to having her pancreas betray her.
The doctor has ordered this CT Scan to rule out any possible 2nd events...
I see too that Casey has posted her own blog tonight.
CLICK HERE for her own words.
I am SO tired. But sleep seems to be playing hide~n~seek with me.
Punk is fast asleep. And has not eaten her supper. Seems to have pain tonight, more restless than yesterday...
Perhaps the anesthesia has finally all worn off.
Perhaps it is her own 6th sense of what is happening with CaseyAnne...
(On Tuesday evening, as Casey had sat in the chair and cried, Punk had lay down at her feet and whimpered quietly, every now and then).
So very sweet.
So very gentle.
Very much like our little Casey.
Love to all.
XOXO
Anne
The picture of The Punk was not intentionally blurred.
(I wasn't even aware that one could get the double image on a digital camera).
Until now.
Seeing it now, knowing what I now know, it is perfect for this posting...
Good Morning Everyone;
Please do not scroll down to see how this ends...
...Just read; as it happened here.
(And yes, you might want to grab a cup of coffee).
Maybe a kleenex-
And you might not even care to read should you have a weak stomach.
~~~

I remember, vaguely, as I typed yesterday, being ever so tired. (And am fairly sure the very same thought applied to the day before)...
As it does for today.

Again yesterday afternoon Casey needed fluids, even though she has been dutifully 'water~logging' herself at home?
Not sure about all that, but I do know that her Dr. is trying his level best to keep her from being hospitalized too.

Added at 2:30PM: Casey is now hospitalized; amylase and lipase over 1000.

But let's not begin this blog at the clinic; (for I was barely there); having brought her in, securing a wheelchair and a guard for her, and promptly leaving once more.

No, let's not begin there either...

Let's begin with a subtitle.

How about ...

"Once a Parent, ALWAYS a Parent"
.
.

As parents, or those of you that love AS parents, we tend to lose sleep. Hence the bits of sleep deprivation that we have from time to time.
And even as we curse that same deprivation, we would never exchange it for not experiencing it either. For to do so would eliminate the very reason we care enough to lose sleep in the first place.

It also crosses my mind, (and my heart), that this fierce loyalty, dedication, and love knows no genetic code; nor genus.

Mama Milly, with many Orbs...

...PROLOGUE...

As you all know, I ended up keeping one of those pups...
(And yes, I am ever so thankful for that)...

I believe, in her own right, Mama Milly's kind of thankful for that too.
There's someone to play with...

Someone, just like herself ~
To "hide" behind the barngrade with too...

I have used this blurry picture just so you have an idea as to how very steep the other side of the barngrade is...
(I was standing at the top as I took this picture last summer).

...And my true blog begins...

.

Cnv2110
Yeah, it was kinda like that...
.
.

I was ever so tired yesterday morning and thought I might just close my eyes and nap a bit. It was terribly chilly still- having gotten below zero, and was only a few measly degrees above late in the morning.
Miss Milly was still inside, but out in the entrance.

Casey had come down earlier, in awful pain once more; had drank something and had returned to bed.
All was quiet-
A perfect opportunity to catch a few Zzz's !
Punk and I curled up on the couch...

Casey came down very shortly after that, in terrible pain, very nauseated; vomiting too.
She called the clinic, but with their automated system was put on hold... Handing the phone to me when another wave of nausea threatened, she disappeared back into the bathroom.

As luck would have it, this is when they came on the line...
Yes. All of the nurses know her by name. I told the nurse what was going on. She called for the doctor, and I was to bring Casey in ASAP.
No problem.
(Well, no problem as long as I could allow one of my Xanax to work a bit before I left home anyway)...

Given the temps, I would allow my car warm up so we wouldn't freeze too much.
But wait, the dogs need to go out first...
Miss Milly will also need fresh water in her kennel while we are gone too.

I let the dogs out.

And locate my car keys.

I opened the garage door.
(All of about 25 seconds have passed since I have let them outside)...

As soon as the garage door quiets, I hear a dog bark/yelp in pain.
(I do not see them at this point).

Just one quick, loud yelp.

Then nothing...

I do not start the car.

Immediately, I holler for them both to come, as a car drives by at breakneck speed.
(My heart sinks a bit)...

I listen for them.

Nothing. ~Not even the tinkling of their tags on their collars...

I holler again. My heart beating a bit faster, and not due to the cold temps either.

And I listen...

Nothing. (I swear that I hear my heart though)...

I yell a third time.
And this time, as my heart is about to plunge through my throat they both appear at the top of the barngrade.
Miss Milly with Punks collar in her mouth, seemingly dragging this pup.
(She can play so rough sometimes)...

I tell them "COME!"

Miss Milly, (still with Punks collar in her mouth), turns and comes down the barngrade.
Oh for heavens sakes!

She, (they), stop by the firepit.
She is still hanging onto her Punkster.

Dang dogs anyway...
Don't they know I have a sick kid?

(Casey is getting dressed, trying not to barf in the bathroom, and I seem to have my hands full with these silly dogs).

"Milly, knock it off!"

She does.
And comes running toward me.
I open the door and let her in.

Punk still sits atop the snowcovered firepit. Snow on her face.

"Punk, COME!"

She barely even turns to look at me.

"PUNK!"

(I did not even have shoes on, and my patience is wearing a bit thin).

Think, Anne, THINK....

Ever so sweetly now... "Hey Punk, wanna go for a ride?!"

(Yup. It worked)!

And as she came toward me, she walked funny. Looking off to the south, and holding her head all wrong.
Something weird.
I remember saying something like, yeah, ok, you got hurt. Get inside.

She did.
And went and sat in front of the treat door.
Mama Milly taking her own place in the entrance.
Normal for these two.

I checked on Casey, but not before having caught a glimpse of Punk.

She had a piece of Mama Millys red cedar chips from her kennel in her eye.

Since I am ok with almost everything BUT eyeballs; I ask Casey to get that chip out as I look for my shoes...

A second or two later, I hear Casey, "Mom, we need to get her to the vet NOW."

I cannot breathe.

I cannot look.

Still. I do.

My heart stops, even as my breathing returned. (Hyperventilating IS breathing)...

The little piece of red cedar chip that I thought I had seen was actually a branch of a tree, a bit thicker than the thickness of a pencil- with about 1/2 inch protruding from her left eye.
(And Casey thought SHE had a corner on the nausea)???

Casey picked up the phone as I had shouted the vets number and held Punks paw down.
(She SO wanted to get that stick out)!

The phone call...
...After narrowing down which dog was injured, Jeanine did not even allow Casey to finish her sentence; saying, "We'll see you in a minute."

Jeanine knows that Mama Milly weighs about 58 pounds, and that Punk is over 90 pounds; Dr. Spires needed to be prepared for which dog was actually hurt...

I find my shoes and take my Xanax while Casey restrains our 90 pound pup.

I get Punk to the car. Casey quickly gets into the back with her and I drive like hell to get there as fast as I can.
I do believe the only whimpering came from Casey and myself.

Punk was stoic but shaking. Shock.

Casey, (who has studied both small and large animal vet science), was holding her tight. She tells me how rapid Punks heart rate is, and how shallow her breath sounds are.
(Not a complete dunce myself, this info only makes me drive faster).
This too is shock; (and probably on all our parts)...
Can that stick be as long as to have punctured her brain?

I park in the 'no parking zone', and run inside the clinic, almost as the doctor is on his way out.

He carries her inside, and she was sedated within a few moments.
(I would have paid triple for that same sedation)...

Checking the injury, and the stick, he tells us the stick actually has missed the eyeball.
He will need to put her to sleep to remove the stick.
No. He cannot say how deep it is; just that it does not 'give' in any direction.

We wait for him to clear the schedule and to care for the animals that have come in while we are there.
These minutes seem so very long...

Punk was, for the most part, out of it...

They finally come back to take her away from us.
Dr. Spires carries her once more to where she would have her surgery...

I go out and speak to the receptionist for a minute.
I tell her I need to go home and collect my purse.
(Forgotten in the priority of the moment).
Casey goes into the bathroom, and we hear how very sick she is...

Angel, (the receptionist), goes to the back, comes back out and tells me Punk will not be able to leave til after 3:00.
We leave to get Casey a coat, (she had forgotten to even put her coat on when she'd seen the dog that way), to collect my purse, my cellphone, and to get Casey to her own doctor...

And I prayed so very hard during those moments away from them both.

I think of how very steep that barngrade is off the backside.

And how very hard it must have been for Mama Milly to have dragged her 90 pound offspring to the top of it, with her collar in her mouth!
But mama dogs always carry their babies by the neck in their mouths too...

How Milly was SO very reluctant to let go of her own baby girl.
But she knew I could/would see her girl, and do something then...

And how, when Casey and I had stopped back at home before I had dropped KC off at the clinic, how Mama Milly had whined and barked; knowing her little Punk was not in the car with us, and not knowing why...

.

.

If "Mama" don't care, NOBODY cares.

.

.

I brought Casey to the clinic...
Then had to go back to Suamico to get Punkin...
And was scared to even go back there, not knowing how she had come through the surgery and all.

When I arrived I was told that she had not yet woken up (fully) and that it would be a few minutes yet.

I was then shown a little bag that contained the weapon.

.

.

Note the far right side that has not been darkened by blood.
This is the only part that was sticking out of her eye socket.

.

.

I also notice that the far right side is a "fresh" break.
I do not know if those dogs were fighting over a silly stick or if this got snapped off as soon as Mama Milly heard the yelp and pulled her 'baby' to safety. (I am thinking I do not want to know).

The vet said that Punk will probably not lose her sight in that eye.
But that was NOT actually a concern of mine. That probably sounds cold, but I was more worried about losing her.

He also had to put two small stitches into the third eyelid that she has, as it got a bit torn up.
I have drops to put in her eye 5 or 6 times a day til they are gone; and she does not seem to mind these at all.
(Of course Dr. Spires also told me that her eye might be numb for about 24 hours too).
And that she would sleep whole bunches.
She has.
And is.

.

.

But when those beautiful eyes are opened, they still send all their love.
.
As I do too.
.

I must go now.

XOXO
Me

Good Morning Everyone;

Another week all shot to heck already. And another bitterly cold one I might add.
After listening to the weather this morning, we are in a fine position to be breaking yet another temperature record low this evening.
Sheesh, can it please be over already???
But it got me to thinking too...
Record LOW???

RECORD???

Methinks we are having a "BRETT FAVRE WINTER" !!!

There is no other way to describe it. We have broken snowfall records and all else. Kinda like all the records he broke this last year too.
Makes sense, doesn't it?

That said, can WE then retire Winter???

Stolen from WBAY~tv...

A very sad day for us Green Bay Packers Fans, and probably for a lot of others as well...

Sad too, was this memory for us here in Flintville...

.

.

Remember Flintville Frankie???
.
.

Of course he was a Packers fan too!
WHOO~HOO!
We Go Green Bay!!!.
.
And then a somber and brutal reality set in...
As the ravenous cruel birds ate his face off!

Bit by bit,
and
BITE BY BITE!!!
.
.
Even as Mother Nature tore off his Packers top!
(She must be a Dallas fan)! UGH!!!
hehehe
.
.
Worse, were the days that Winter tried to obscure him...
.
.
.
.
But the very worst of all was the SUN above...
Hideously twisting his body...
Slowly bending his once proud frame;
as it ripped and wrenched one arm from its socket!
.
.
.
.
.
As he could take no more, he decapitated himself...
.
.
.
.
.
.
The following day,
he gutted himself as well...
.

.

.

yup. Love hurts...

Have a "wunnaful" weekend...
