Amen~in 2003 I ALMOST lost my son John to an E-coli bacterial infection. We still to this day are unsure where he contracted the bacteria. He was a 6'1", 170 pound HEALTHY kid that within the span of FOUR days went down to a ghastly 138 pounds. At the onset of his illness (Monday) I thought he had a kidney infection, began pumping him full of water and cranberry juice and took him to the doctor. It took 36 hours for the cultures to grow and on Wednesday morning John was admitted into the hospital and an OR was prepped in case they needed to remove his kidney. This was a HEALTHY (and I mean healthy~John missed ONE day of school in the fourth grade due to a tooth extraction and that WAS IT!!) ATHLETIC boy~within 48 hours we were literally fighting to save his kidney and his life. Could you image how fast this infection could have destroyed a weak 4 year old prone to colds and flu?
ReplyDeleteAMEN gf~and it is about damn time!
Great idea but if ya ask me...if the US would stop importing from other states (and I don't just mean food), the government and we taxpayers wouldn't have to fork out the money to have these labels on all this stuff. I say we need to start relying more on ourselves and less on other countries for EVERYTHING. If we are the land of plenty, why do we need to import?
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of knowing where our things come from. It would be even better if they didn't come from anywhere else but the good ole USofA!
ReplyDeleteBut you know the farmers here have been having a hard time for a very long time. Especially when our Government made it more profitable NOT to grow things than to grow things. They did this so we would have to rely more on foreign imports. What a major shame for our Gov to do that to our farmers and to us.
thank god for living in Cali....most of what we get here is locally grown of caught.....
ReplyDeleteI can get fresh fish at the pier any day of the year and almost 90 of produce is local. The sierras help us a lot since they won't let many things past them for fear of infection.....
I have noticed that most of the fruit here has a sticker saying where it came from. To do this on meat is good too but if you're looking for 'made in the USA' will it make the price of beef go up even more than what it already is? How can it be USDA grade a fresh if it comes from another country? There's alot of loopholes there that I don't like...
