[My] Life in Wisconsin

A Crash in the Cornfield???

Good Thursday Morning to You!

I am thinking that you would have loved to have been here yesterday! We had so much fun getting ever so dirty!!! hehehe

Not so much today though... I think we will be in for a round of nasty storms this afternoon/evening, if the radar and forecasts are correct anyway. Here's my WBAY forecast... "Good morning Anne, A line of storms is expected to develop in western Wisconsin later today and move into our area this evening. Some storms may bring wind gusts of 50-60 mph. Your severe weather outlook is MODERATE today. Before the rain look for warm and muggy conditions."

We did get about 4 and 1/2 drops of rain yesterday, early; and although the skies threatened a few times, nothing ever did come of it.

CaseyAnne, Roberta and I finished planting the major stuff in the garden, so it is all set for the rains. My onions are up and growing, and even a little potato bug has found his own little special spot!

.

.

Ain't he CUTE???

.

.

Many people, when planting their gardens will mark their rows with stones, bricks, store~bought tags etc... Guess I am not that brave, (Those rocks have a tendency to jump out at my bare feet from time to time)... We use the little white plastic spoons, using a laundry marker to write what has been planted where. And they work GREAT! We put in leeks yesterday, the gourds, the pumpkins, and some cucumbers too. Roberta and Casey filled in on a few rows of corn and beans those few plants that have not come up yet. And boy are the peas taking their time! Just a few of those even breaking ground yet... The girls had fun with the spoons, and looking around after all had been planted, marked and watered, I came upon this little "marker"... Kind of in the middle of nowhere. My 1st thought was "Uh~Oh, somebody screwed up." Getting a bit closer I see that it is KC's handiwork...

.

.
(Yes, I left it right there too)! hehehe

.

.

.And after such a hot day, 85 degrees, there is always time to play... Especially when it is SO windy!

.

.
Roberta and Casey flying their kites! (These were the 'crashes' in the cornfield).

.

.

.

Punk didn't think too much of these noisy, flying 'things' either. And as they would nosedive, she would stand between us and the kite... "Fierce Protector" that she is! And she didn't even care to be getting too close even when Casey had brought her kite outside...

.

.

I Methinks Miss Punk is laughing at KC as the support stick falls off her kite!

.

.

.

And yes, even "Yours Truly" had to try her hand at the art of the flying kite! Now c'mon, kite flying isn't only for the kids! We had so much fun, (even when they came down so abruptly)!

.

.

With Miss Punkie on the ready... to attack it, should it come down towards me!
hehehe.

.

.

After being so hot out there, she had to go cool off in the pool... (And yes that water was freshly drawn just an hour before). Doesn't stay clean too long with a dirty dog... (Milly will not go anywhere near water unless her ball "falls" in it).

I'd used the old water to throw on my plants around the house in the early morning...

.

.
And she was so warm that she even laid down in it!

.

.

And then time for her to go dry off in the shade of the front porch...

.

.

She WAS sleeping~ (before she'd heard the beep of the camera as I turned it on).
.
.
.

Jenny Mella stopped over too; sneaking in the 2nd driveway on her bike. None of us could figure out why all of a sudden Punk and Milly were both barking so loud either... The little SNEAK!

.

.

.

Jenny watches as Master Gabriel takes Punkies ball away...
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
Done with all that, he proceeds to steal his mama's sunglasses!
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
While 'Mama' juggles two balls, and Miss Punk tries to decide which one to go after!
.
.
.
.
.
.

I had recently bought a case of pizza to benefit a school in the area, and it was time to go inside and munch for a bit...

Master Gabriel ate his own pizza with much gusto, and then decided he'd had enough...

.

.

.

.

And began to snore as soon as his food was gone...
.
.
.
.
.
.

And Lord, "lead us not into temptation"...

...But we just HAD to have a blackmail picture for Master Gabriels future girlfriends...
.
.
.
.
.
.

.

...lest they not realize exactly what kind of family they will be getting into!
(How bad is that)???
hehehe
.
.
.

I'd better close for now and get this show on the road as they say... (And like I said earlier, I am thinking that you ALL would have loved it around these parts yesterday)!!!

Have a sweet Thursday!!!!
Love to all,

XOXO
Anne

No "Bravery" Here...

Good Morning to All!

I am wondering if any of you know what kind of tree this is? It had little berry~like 'cones' on it. I took this pic on one of our trips down to Froedtert. And yes, Caseys pancreas has given her NO FURTHER PROBLEMS! All that is left to do is go back for her recheck appointment down at Froedtert... (er, I mean I HOPE that is all anyway)...

Casey and her bridesmaids, maid of honor, etc will be going to look at dresses this morning! She is ever so excited too! (And yes, as I am excited and proud FOR her/them)!

We had an amazing day yesterday, (even though it might have begun a bit harsh for me)... hehehe The weather was perfect, although a bit windy; (and while I cut lawn I found I was holding my breath more often than not to keep from inhaling those cuttings). Still I kept sneezing later... "God Bless Me!"

A few of you remarked upon my 'bravery' yesterday as I had tried to figure out what the heck had the dogs so very upset in the early morning. I assure you it is not bravery when you have one large dog with/by you, and another almost as large one that can be quickly loosed should it ever come to that. (Oh yeah, and maybe a few of those Elmer Fudd guns that are quite close by too)!

I have never had a real problem with 'people' out here, (with the exception of the garage door that fell on my head almost 2 years ago)... Now a wild turkey, a whitetail, and a whole assorted menagerie of bunnies, gophers, chipmunks, skunks, fox, squirrels, possums, woodchucks etc are usually the culprits out here. (None of which will actually hurt a person unless they are ill, or too very startled).

Being as it is getting so nice outside, I decided it was time for Miss Punk to have her pool out, and began to fill it for her...

.

.

She loves the water, but takes offense to the hose as the water runs...
.
.
That darned hose shoots the water up her nose, and down her throat if she catches it just right...
.
.
.
But she loves it none~the~less!
(And yes, straight from the well, that water IS very cold)!
42 degrees year round...

.

.

.

Only one small setback yesterday. (And one that, had it been captured on tape, would have won Americas Funniest Videos too)... The phone rang inside, and I had forgotten to grab the cordless out with me. As Punk and I were running into the house she tripped me on the way up the steps~ (these entrance steps are concrete). We get completely tangled up; we tumble up, and then right back down those steps! And yeah, I swear she broke my big toe on my left foot too. (It does NOT move one bit today)! Y~O~W~C~H!!!

.

.

This is before it was done swelling and turning colors...
Pretty nasty feet eh? From years of abuse going barefoot in all kinds of weather over all kinds of nasty terrain, rocks etc...

.

.

.

At the bottom of those steps this darned dog and I both just looked at each other, (trying to figure out what the heck had just happened)! Me laughing, crying, (and maybe cussing a bit as I grabbed my poor toe), we did get in the house, just not in time to talk to whomever had called! (That's OK, I always figure if it is important they will call back).

So back outside we went. Across the road, the neighboring farm was harvesting their first crop of hay already... Punk, a bit upset by all the commotion. was fascinated by it too. She sat on the sidewalk and barked at the tractos, the self~unloading wagons and at every new wagon that pulled in that field.

.

.

They removed 20+ wagons full yesterday...
A very nice start to filling up the haymow for next winter.

.

.

.

Now on a more somber and vitally important note. My sister Mary had called. (As you already know, Mary has outlived her own Grade 3, Stage IIIc breast cancer). Anyway, Marys boss lady had gone in for a mammogram a while ago, her doctor had called her saying they wanted to do a biopsy on a suspicious spot that had shown up. As it turned out, she had her surgery, and woke up to the doctor saying that it was a cyst, apx 2 cm big, completely harmless.

Fast forward a few more days... The surgeon calls her after all the lab reports are back in. Her so~called harmless 'cyst' is malignant, AND THEY SAY THEY CANNOT SCHEDULE HER ANOTHER APPOINTMENT UNTIL NEXT TUESDAY! I feel so badly for this lady, but am happy that she has Mary there to be leaning on a bit also.

We have all seen the jokes...

.

Training for a mammogram...
etc etc etc...

.

.

Yet even knowing that 1 in every 8 women will go through this at one point or another, many of us still have an "it won't happen to me" attitude about this disease.

If you think along those lines, please get your head out of the sand, get off the computer, and go schedule your yearly mammogram.

To break it down to my blog alone...

  • I have 130+ friends on here, MOST of them are women...
  • That means that over 15 of you WILL be dealing with this disease. (Not too good of odds, eh)?
  • And I promise you that it will come whether or not you have a mammogram.
  • Better to catch it early...
  • Better to find it yourself too.
  • Do your monthly self exams...
  • Question anything that seems to be even a bit "off" or odd.
  • And NEVER be afraid to question your doctor either.

That said, I hope you all are having a 'wunnaful' Wednesday!

Mid 80's again for here, but today/tonight with a chance of nasty weather too... ~~~(Storms, me no likey)!

XOXO
Anne

Cold Feet; and PUPPIES!!!!

Good Morning All;

It has been a very busy couple of days, and once again I must extend my apologies for not writing or commenting... I have read some of your entries, and as always I am in tears. Tears of joy! Tears of laughter. Tears of sadness. And tears of wonder at such a world we seem to have!

This morning to have been so rudely awakened... My first coherent thought (at a little after 3AM), was "Why on Earth is Miss Milly barking like that?"

Stumbling around in the darkness, I sneak into the kitchen... (Obviously more awake than I am, Punk takes a very large, and very noisy, drink of water)... I peek out the kitchen window toward the kennel. Miss Milly is barking toward the road. Peeking around the corner of the window, I see nothing. But there are about 100 pine trees between myself and the road too, so seeing 'nothing' means very little at this point in time.

Oh well, 'perhaps I can let Punkie out and go back to sleep for just a little while?' She bristles as she goes toward her favorite spot, stopping dead in her tracks. And lets out a little growl... Dang. I am clearly not dressed for this, but I wander out anyway... ~I see 'nothing' again. ~Milly is also now watching Punk. I tell Punk to go potty. She does. She turns tail then, and runs back to the doorway. (So do I).

<maybe I can still go back to sleep?>

...maybe????

... Suddenly those sickening 'dots' and 'blind spots' appear. OK, not back to bed, but back to the kitchen for a maxalt. (And I am thinking how nice it is that it is dark out still)... Thinking that I will just sit for a spell in the living room, I turn to walk there, and step square into a huge puddle of cold water. (If any of you have a lab or a golden then you already know how sloopy they are when they take a drink). I had stepped into her little puddle... In my haste to step out of this damn cold puddle I accidentally kick her whole water dish. Now the top of my foot is as cold and soggy as the bottom... So much for any more 'rest' of any kind. Short of a fatal myocardial infarction, there is no way I shall drift off anymore... And I resign myself to push the button on this machine once again.

The dots gradually disappear. My day begins.

(Milly did not stop barking until the sun had decided to rise from its own overnight nap)...

Cnv2210
A bit of fog crawling over the still barren cornfields...

.

.

.

Still dawning, the fog creeps away from my garden, (which is still unfinished).

.

.

.

And with the sunrise, the fog begins to thin out too...

.

.

And turns the field a hazy shade of pink...

.

.

.

Two days ago, this same field where Miss Kelli and Miss Casey had snuck in from the woods, right along with Breezie and May...

.

.

Kelli with May~ CaseyAnne with "The Breeze"

.

.

Roberta and her friend had just gotten here too with Master Gabriel, who was more than a bit shocked to see those two horses in Grandma's backyard...

He frowned... He smiled... But he walked ever closer too...

.

.

.

Then walks slowly and cautiously to the back yard... still peeking...
...(just before I snatch him up and set him right on Breezie)!
.
.
He is SO happy up there!
As he pets the horse, he loudly announces to the world:
"PUPPY!!!"

.

And it just has to be the biggest damn puppy this little one has ever seen!!! hehehe Even after we tried to tell him it is a 'horse' he says "PUPPY!" again and again...

.

.

As Casey and Kelli head back to Kellis (with the two 'puppies'), the rest of us come inside for a bite. Remember the chili from the day before? It is now magically transformed into chili dogs! (The "good" hot dogs too, from Blazei's old recipe, now used by Olsens Piggly Wiggly in Howard)... Mmmm....

Gabriel decides not to wait for the hot dogs, and pulls the onion bowl to reach what's in it...

.

.

After trying one bite, he continued to eat those spanish onions, BY THE SPOONFUL!
AND, he wanted more on his hot dog!!!!

.

.

A whole bunch of Vitamin C for this little guy, (and we were thinking it was a good thing he didn't have a date that night)! hehehe

.

.

I'd better close for now and get my backside outside! Supposed to be 80+ degrees today and if I don't finish that garden soon, I will be harvesting things in November! Werys have the land this year, and will be planting Roma tomatoes, and squash of all kinds. Said they will be in there this week to get those seeds in the ground... (Yay, no more bent and broken cornstalks)!

And I do have to touch base with the vet too as Miss Punkins own backside has been giving her a few more twitches of pain... And she cries out in her sleep sometimes too. Hard to hear that...

But for now I am focused on those 80's Baby. That said, I am outta here!!

Hope all is well with everyone, and that you are having a fine week!

XOXO
Anne

59, 68, 83, 82, 70...

Good Morning All;

Still a bit blogstipated and dummified... The pic is of one of the noodles that lived through my throwing an entire serving on the floor. (Such clumsy hands I seem to have)!

I have tried not to even look outside this morning as I chanced to take a peek at my current weather conditions on the computer here...

.

!!!SnowFlakes???
("what the heck")?
And I am also very curious as to what the heck has happened to that Global Warming???
.
.
.

Yesterday was a balmy low 80's til about 2... The clouds rolled in, the breezes picked up and a few drops of rain fell. I had just finished planting some beets and some carrots too, so that bit of rain did a whole world of good! But it did a "world of wet" to the boys that came out on their bikes to check on Roberta's quite dead car...

.

.

.

Bruiser, Derek and CaseyAnne; dry again by the time they left...

.

.

.

Sadly, it is not good news with respect to Bertas Little Escort. Wonder if KC has called her yet? They are thinking it is her timing chain... Meanwhile I had made a bit of chili; with onions, cheese and some sour cream- Made some quick parmesan/garlic croutons and everybody ate, and warmed up too. It had gotten so chilly so fast; (no pun intended)...

Dereks bike ran out of gas right after they left here; and Casey brought him some. Now he had just gotten his bike back from the garage, and lo and behold if it didn't start spewing oil on the freeway... He called for a trailer then. I went to sleep... I see Casey has a new blog so she must have stuck around here for a while. Berta and Gabriel will be coming out today, and I am thinking that Casey and Derek will also come out after mass. I am going to find some meat right now and get something cooking in the oven... That slow cooking all day will make my house smell like heaven; and might just warm it up a bit too!

It is currently 38 degrees.

Current conditions as of 4:53 am CDT Light Snow, 38°, Feels Like: 29°, Barometer: 30.15 in and rising, Humidity: 79%, Visibility: 9 mi, Dewpoint: 32°, Wind: N 16 mph (nasty for May)!

Hope its warmer where you're at! Do enjoy the rest of your weekend! And yes, I will be planting a few more seeds today...

Oh, those numbers in my title? Those are the highs we will be having for the next 5 days! Welcome to Flintville! hehehe

XOXO

Taking a Hike!

Good Saturday Morning to Everyone;

I am trying to get past a "blogstipation" issue with my grey matter... It doesn't seem to be working properly, so will post a few little things that have come across my email, notes etc... Interesting to me anyway. I hope they will be the same for you. We have all probably seen these things; and true or not they should give us all reason to pause/paws. hehehe

***First and foremost I cannot for the life of me remember whose blog I stole this from. Please let me know, and do forgive my absentmindedness?

As the story goes, a man in Grand Rapids , Michigan incredibly took out a $7000 full~page~ad in the paper to present the following essay to the people of his community.

HOW COULD YOU? - By Jim Willis, 2001

When I was a puppy, I entertained you with my antics and made you Laugh. You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend.

Whenever I was "bad," you'd shake your finger at me and ask "How could you?" -- but then you'd relent and roll me over for a belly rub.

My housebreaking took a little longer than expected, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. I remember those nights of nuzzling you in bed and listening to your confidences and secret dreams, and I believed that life could not be any more perfect. We went for long walks and runs in the park, car rides, stops for ice cream (I only got the cone because "ice cream is bad for dogs" you said), and I took long naps in the sun waiting for you to come home at the end of the day.

Gradually, you began spending more time at work and on your career, and more time searching for a human mate. I waited for you patiently, comforted you through heartbreaks and disappointments, never chided you about bad decisions, and romped with glee at your homecomings; and when you fell in love. She, now your wife, is not a "dog person" - still I welcomed her into our home, tried to show her affection, and obeyed her. I was happy because you were happy.

Then the human babies came along and I shared your excitement. I was fascinated by their pinkness, how they smelled, and I wanted to mother them, too. Only she and you worried that I might hurt them, and I spent most of my time banished to another room, or to a dog crate. Oh, how I wanted to love them, but I became a "prisoner of Love." As they began to grow, I became their friend. They clung to my fur and pulled themselves up on wobbly legs, poked fingers in my eyes, investigated my ears, and gave me kisses on my nose. I loved everything about them and their touch -- because your touch was now so infrequent -- and I would've defended them with my life if need be. I would sneak into their beds and listen to their worries and secret dreams, and together we waited for the sound of your car in the driveway.

There had been a time, when others asked you if you had a dog, that you produced a photo of me from your wallet and told them stories about me. These past few years, you just answered "yes" and changed the subject. I had gone from being "your dog" to "just a dog ," and you resented every expenditure on my behalf.

Now, you have a new career opportunity in another city, and you and they will be moving to an apartment that does not allow pets. You've made the right decision for your "family," but there was a time when I was your only family

I was excited about the car ride until we arrived at the animal shelter. It smelled of dogs and cats, of fear, of hopelessness. You filled out the paperwork and said "I know you will find a good home for her." They shrugged and gave you a pained look. They understand the realities facing a middle-aged dog, even one with "papers." You had to pry your son's fingers loose from my collar as he screamed "No, Daddy! Please don't let them take my dog!" And I worried for him, and what lessons you had just taught him about friendship and loyalty, about love and responsibility, and about respect for all life. You gave me a good-bye pat on the head, avoided my eyes, and politely refused to take my collar and leash with you.

You had a deadline to meet and now I have one, too. After you left, the two nice ladies said you probably knew about your upcoming move months ago and made no attempt to find me another good home. They shook their heads and asked "How could you?" They are as attentive to us here in the shelter as their busy schedules allow. They feed us, of course, but I lost my appetite days ago. At first, whenever anyone passed my pen, I rushed to the front, hoping it was you that you had changed your mind -- that this was all a bad dream... or I hoped it would at least be someone who cared, anyone who might save me.

When I realized I could not compete with the frolicking for attention of happy puppies, oblivious to their own fate, I retreated to a far corner and waited. I heard her footsteps as she came for me at the end of the day, and I padded along the aisle after her to a separate room. A blissfully quiet room. She placed me on the table and rubbed my ears, and told me not to worry. My heart pounded in anticipation of what was to come, but there was also a sense of relief. This "prisoner of love" had run out of days.

As is my nature, I was more concerned about her. The burden which she bears weighs heavily on her, and I know that, the same way I knew your every mood. She gently placed a tourniquet around my foreleg as a tear ran down her cheek. I licked her hand in the same way I used to comfort you so many years ago. She expertly slid the hypodermic needle into my vein. As I felt the sting and the cool liquid coursing through my body, I lay down sleepily, looked into her kind eyes and murmured "How could you?"

Perhaps because she understood my dog speak, she said "I'm so sorry." She hugged me, and hurriedly explained it was her job to make sure I went to a better place, where I wouldn't be ignored or abused or abandoned, or have to fend for myself -- a place of love and light so very different from this earthly place. And with my last bit of energy, I tried to convey to her with a thump of my tail that my "How could you?" was not directed at her. It was directed at you, My Beloved Master, I was thinking of you. I will think of you and wait for you forever. May everyone in your life continue to show you so much loyalty.

A Note from the Author: ~If "How Could You?" brought tears to your eyes as you read it, as it did to mine as I wrote it, it is because it is the composite story of the millions of formerly "owned" pets who die each year in animal shelters.

Please use this to help educate, on your websites, in newsletters, on animal shelter and vet office bulletin boards. Tell the public that the decision to add a pet to the family is an important one for life, that animals deserve our love and sensible care, that finding another appropriate home for your animal is your responsibility and any local humane society or animal welfare league can offer you good advice, and that ALL life is precious. Please do your part to stop the killing, and encourage all spay & neuter campaigns in order to prevent unwanted animals. Please pass this on to everyone, not to hurt them or make them sad, but it could save maybe, even one, unwanted pet...

Always Remember...They love UNCONDITIONALLY.

And then (totally unrelated), there is this very interesting excerpt from Transportation Magazine... (This one is REAL kids, and I stole it from here)!

1943 GUIDE TO HIRING WOMEN
(WHO SAYS YOU HAVEN'T COME A LONG WAY, BABY?)

The following is an excerpt from the July 1943 issue of Transportation Magazine.

This was serious and written for male supervisors of women in the work force during World War II - a mere 64 years ago! Obviously, the intent was not be "funny," but by today's standards, this is hilarious! (For those of you with efficiency issues, pay attention to #8).

Eleven Tips on Getting More Efficiency Out of Women Employees:

There is no longer any question whether transit companies should hire women for jobs formerly held by men. The draft and manpower shorrtage has settled that point. The important things now are to select the most efficient women available and how to use them to the best advantage. Here are eleven helpful tips on the subject:

1. Pick young married women. They usually have more of a sense of responsibility than their unmarried sisters. They are less likely to be flirtatious. They need the work, or they would not be doing it. The still have the pep and interest to work hard and to deal with the public efficiently.

2. When you have to use older women, try to get ones who have worked outside the home at some time in their lives. Older women who have never contacted the public have a hard time adapting themselves and are inclined to be cantankerous and fussy. It is always well to impress upon older women, the importance of friendliness and courtesy.

3. General experience indicates that "husky" girls - those who are just a little on the heavy side - are more even tempered and efficient than their underweight sisters.

4. Retain a physician to give each woman you hire a special physical examination - one covering female conditions. This step not only protects the property against the possibilities of lawsuit, but reveals whether the employee-to-be has any female weaknesses which would make her mentally or physically unfit for the job.

5. Stress at the outset, the importance of time; the fact that a minute or two lost here and there makes serious inroads on schedules. Until this point is gotten across, service is likely to be slowed up.

6. Give the female employee a definite day-long schedule of duties so that they will keep busy without bothering the management for instructions every few minutes. Numerous properties say that women make excellent workers when they have their jobs cut out for them, but that they lack initiative in finding work themselves.

7. Whenever possible, let the inside employee change from one job to another at some time during the day. Women are inclined to be less nervous and happier with change.

8. Give every girl an adequate number of rest periods during the day. You have to make some allowances for feminine psychology. A girl has more confidence and is more efficient if she can keep her hair tidied, apply fresh lipstick and wash her hands several times a day.

9. Be tactful when issuing instructions or in making criticisms. Women are often sensitive; they cannot shrug off harsh words the way men do. Never ridicule a woman - it breaks her spirit and cuts off her efficiency.

10. Be reasonably considerate about using strong language around women. Even though a girl's husband or father may swear vociferously, she will grow to dislike a place of business where she hears too much of this.

11. Get enough size variety in operator's uniforms so that each girl can have a proper fit. This point cannot be stressed too much in keeping women happy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
hehehe Now I know that I should come in from the garden, regularly; and apply some make~up and lipstick and fix my hair. (And here I have been doing this wrong for my entire life)!!!
IGNORANCE IS NOT AN EXCUSE!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The next one is of questionable origin, but has circulated around with credit being given to "Housekeeping" Magazine... July 13, 1955 Found here

Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready, on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal (especially his favourite dish) is part of the warm welcome needed.

Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.

Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.

Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives.

Gather up schoolbooks, toys, paper, etc and then run a dustcloth over the tables.

Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering for his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.

Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children's hands and faces (if they are small), comb their hair and, if necessary, change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part. Minimise all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer, or vacuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet.

Be happy to see him.

Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.

Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first - remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.

Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to dinner, or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at home and relax.

Your goal: Try to make sure your home is a place of peace, order, and tranquility where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.

Don't greet him with complaints or problems.

Don't complain if he's late home for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through that day.

Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or have him lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.

Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.

Don't ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.

A good wife always knows her place.

I think the only thing I can really say is that I do like to cook, given the proper time and enough of the right ingredients...

I know, I KNOW... ("My BAD"); I never did put a ribbon in my hair when I had come in from the garden to 'tidy up' the face...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On a more serious note, I have been hearing that so many long~term marriages and relationships are splitting up... and the advice that people are giving is almost one~sided, but definitely also very cruel... They say kick him/her to the curb.
What the heck happened to "commitment" anyway? Short of incest, cheating, and beating, are there really any excuses? Although I might have missed a reason or two, "errors in judgement" are NOT excuses. So for those of you that this applies to, please just sit back and look carefully at the whole picture before you kick anyone to the curb. And yes, I do know it works both ways. You don't Spring Clean your marriage, and you don't Spring Clean your friends. That's just wrong...
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and that you can get out and enjoy a little of the outside world too!
As for me, it is time to do a bit of gardening...
...But first I must throw on my make~up, and put a ribbon in my hair!
XOXO
Anne
PS... This, for a very special friend of mine. When we realize just how tough we are not, or really just don't want to be...
I've Never Been To Me
Hey lady, you lady
cursing at your life
you're a discontented mother
and a regimented wife
I have no doubt
you dream about the things you never do
but I wish someone had talked to me like I wanna talk to you
Oh, I've been to Georgia and California and anywhere I could run
Took the hand of a preacher man
and we made love in the sun
But I ran out of places and friendly faces
Because I had to be free
I've been to paradise but I've never been to me...
Please lady please lady
don't just walk away
Cause I have this need to tell you
why I'm all alone today
I can see so much of me
still living in your eyes
won't you share a part
of a weary heart that has lived a million lives
Oh, I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece
when I sipped champagne on a yacht
I moved like Harlo in Monte Carlo
and showed them what I've got
I've been undressed by kings
and I've seen some things that a woman ain't s'pose to see
I've been to paradise but I've never been to me...
Hey, you know what paradise is?
It's a lie
a fantasy we created about people and places
as we like them to be
but you know what truth is?
it's that little baby you're holding
and it's that man you fought with this morning
the same one you are gonna make love to tonight
that's truth that's love
sometimes I've been to crying for unborn children
that might have made me complete
but I, I took the sweet life
I never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet
I spent my life exploring
the subtle whoreing
that cost to much to be free
hey lady I've been to paradise
but I've never been to me...
I've been to paradise but I've never been to me...
Ready. Set.. JUNE!!! (bug)
Good Morning All!
I see that Miss DeBee has posted a thank you for those of you that were kind enough to have visited her pages, and mine, and to have offered your condolences to herslef and to Derek as well... (I thank you too)!
Roberta came out with My Little Master Gabriel. I have not yet figured out exactly which language he speaks in, but whatever it is, he is very knowlegable about many things, and very excited to talk about any/everything. I swear this little man has an opinion on everything! hehehe
We took the little wagon, hitched to the back of the cub cadet and made our way back to the woods...
.
.
Miss Punk gets the part without the rug!
.
.
...and we are OFF!
.
This is to be Master Gabriels first walk down to the river...
.
.
.
A reassuring hug from Mama... "Boy Grandma, that's a LONG way down!"
.
.
.
About 1/3rd of the way down, Gabriel is thinking that this isn't too bad!
.
.
.
And down at the bottom it is easier to walk... (well a little easier anyway)...
.
.
.
But, "OUCH!", if you step on an odd branch, it can/will hit you in the face!
.
.
.
.
.
.
An old campfire, cleaned by the risen river in spring...
.
.
.
Going UP is MUCH harder... and lots more fun (if you are 19 months old)!
.
.
"Grandma WAIT!" We got 5 more feet up already...
.
.
.
And then it is time to head home once again; and get to the chores that nedd doing.
.
.
.
...and he STILL was full of p&v; wanting to help shovel!
SHOVEL WHAT????
.
.
.
Since there is no snow he had to rescue a drowning June Bug before his nap!
He didn't like that too much. (The bug OR the nap..)!
.
.
.
Roberta did the weedwhacking while I mowed the ditches. (And I really don't think the young man napped when he was laid down... A lot of babbling and fun, a bit of quiet. He filled his drawers and was ready to go again! hehehe (More energy than Mama and Grandma had left)!
Hope you all have a grand day!!!
XOXO
Anne
The Love of a Dog... For Cleo (Added Links)
Good Morning All;
With memories many I begin this entry... For Miss Mona, for Amos, for Homey, for Lucie, and now for Miss Cleo...
Derek, Caseys fiance, had to make that awful decision last night to put his "Cleo" to rest. Many of us that have chosen to let a dog or a cat love us have had to face making such a decision. And it is no easier to make whether you are man or a woman, old or young...
Miss Cleo at the farm just 2 months ago...
.
Derek had called here very early yesterday morning, having found his Miss Cleo unresponsive in his sunroom. He was at the vet clinic, "The Animal House" out on the east side. After speaking briefly to Casey, I told her I would drive her in to be with him.
Arriving there, Cleo was having seizures, and was not coherent at all. Just three days ago, (the last time I saw her), she was so spirited, jumping up and down on the glider that Derek has in his back yard! And yesterday she was in end~stage renal failure. The vet said that the following 24 hours were very critical as to whether she could recover or worsen. She said that with respect to the pet food recall she had seen quite a few cases of renal failure, but none as bad as Cleo was. They gave her Ringers Lactate and then sodium chloride for fluids; having to add a wee bit of valium to her IV when the seizures took over. Casey and Derek had brought Cleo in to Dr. Spires a few months back and after her blood tests had come back he had quickly diagnosed kidney failure; putting her on a special diet...
After bringing Cleo to the animal hospital across town last night, she had worsened and Derek had to finally decide to have his Cleo put to sleep. CaseyAnne called here a little after 8 telling me that Cleo was gone...
A long, sad day for all... His mom, dad and sister had all come to see Cleo too, and of course casey stayed with him all day too.
...And since Derek does not usually come online, I will link to his moms page here so if any of you would like to say a few comforting words, you can. Please CLICK HERE for Debs page. I see she has already posted a blog of her own.
Peace to Derek and his family. Miss Cleo was 11 ~and very well loved.
XOXO
Anne
" And, My Friend, when I am very old, and I can no longer enjoy good health, hearing and sight; do not make heroic efforts to keep me going.
I am simply not having any fun...
Please keep that my trusting life is taken gently; and I shall leave this earth, knowing even with the last breath I draw, that my fate was always safest in your hands. "
Please note...
They do not know what caused Miss Cleo's kidneys to fail, be it age or something else.
I am including the following links for you to double~check your cat and dog foods, plants and human foods as well to what they can/canNOT eat or chew on etc etc etc...
AVMA
FDA
__________
The recall
More than 5,600 pet-food products, house brands and name brands alike, are now on the FDA's recall list. The first recall was the largest, of more than 60 million containers of "cuts and gravy" canned or pouched food that turned out to have wheat gluten tainted with melamine, which is used in the manufacture of plastic countertops, cleaning agents, glue and fertilizer. Those products were all made by Menu Foods, under almost 100 different brand names.
Subsequent recalls have included dry foods, and foods containing rice protein concentrate. More recalls are expected as these companies voluntarily pull products. (Note on the human food chain: "Salvage" pet food was fed to hogs, chickens and farmed fish in several states and in Canada, and the same targeted ingredients as have gone into pet food is also used in the manufacture of food for human consumption. The FDA says there's no danger to anyone who eats any of the animals, arguing a "dilution effect," but no one know for sure.)
The official pet-food recall list is the
FDA's, but our experience has shown us that Pet Food Tracker and The Pet Food List as well the AVMA's list update more quickly than the FDA.
Important: Check your pet foods against these lists, and then check them again!
Changes and adjustments are seen on the lists on a frequent basis.
