Good Morning All;
I am not too sure exactly where to begin...
Know that the very worst of the storms last night were south of Flintville.
(Just not the damage).

Long story short, EVERYONE IS ALRIGHT.

Was talking to Miss Kelli last night.
(Both on cordless phones; safer that way), while the storm was ongoing...
There were a few claps of thunder that even made Punk wince. And a few streaks of lightening too.
Suddenly Kelli cursed, asking, "What was that?"
Then, "I'll call you back."

Moments later the phone rang.
Kelli.

One of the trees in their front yard had snapped; a large branch hanging precariously on the power lines going to the house.

I asked if they had power?
Yes.
Does Tim have a chainsaw?
Yes.
And 'duh' on me- anybody that has a brain, trees, (and/or woodburners), up here HAS a stinkin' chainsaw and knows how to use it...
Tim and Kelli would have all four; ~brains, trees, chainsaw and a woodburner.

And so, of course I told Kelli I would be down shortly to take pictures...

I threw some clothes on- (was already in my sweats); grabbed a jacket, and the camera and was down the road in a minute.

What I was greeted with when I got there...

As the wires snapped off the house!

is the smoke that came from the chimney

911 was called and dispatched quite quickly.

Kelli ran in to grab Mr. Miller, a few cats, and her car keys.

And was quickly yanked out by one of the firemen too.
(AFTER those animals were out)...

The trucks filled Cedar Court.

Kelli and I grabbed the horses;
leading them to the flooded pasture

as the smoke filled the backyard...

As the firemen broke through the outside basement access door.

The origin hard to locate, being the basement was filled with smoke...

An electrical fire.

Damage caused by a bolt of lightning that had hit the tree; burning most the wiring in their basement.
Also taking out the well.

Wisconsin Public Service arrived to shut the remaining power off at the road.
Tim and WPS remained there.
The wiring being reran over the offending tree, but not turned back on yet.

Kelli and I (and Mr. Miller), came here to try to unwind.
(She did not sleep til 5AM, and then only for an hour).

Clearly, Mr Miller did not have that same problem.

Todays jobs are well defined for Kelli and Tim~
The basement door being broken in, left all the runoff going directly down there. It is deep to say the least.
The electricians have been called; as has Weslow Water.

As they work down there, I will bring Mr. Miller to the vet. He had an appointment scheduled already; too important to cancel.

And I had best get my butt in gear... He goes in for 9AM

The doctor has started her on Garbanzo Beans, to be taken 3 times a day.

(Sorry, but I cannot remember what the drug really is called).

It is used to treat nerve pain; (the doctor is thinking that Casey's pain could possibly be related to damaged nerves from one of her prior surgeries).

At this point, almost anything is worth a shot.

She is still feeling poorly but if the garbanzo beans work, (if this doctors hunch is correct) how cool would THAT be???
I am so hopeful.

I did get our lawns cut before the skies opened up. So no, her backyard is NOT that long anymore.
But if these rains keep up both our places will be overgrown again.

And life goes on.
Not too much other news to offer.
Kinda troubling with Casey still stuck in the hospital.
And I have busied myself packing up a few things for their move to their new place.
That, and LOTS and LOTS of catching up with the laundry.

Good Morning Everyone;

As many of you know, Casey had an awful week last. Her pancreas landing her at the hospital once more.
She may be released later today.

Punk slept in the car all morning.
She must have drooled a bit,
ending up with my Woodmans receipt stuck to her face!

After coming home from the hospital early yesterday afternoon, I finally mowed lawns. This is the 1st time in over 10 days that the rains have held off long enough for me to get my own yard done. And must get to Kelli's place; time and weather permitting.
Rain is possible a bit later today, so I shall try to get hers done as early as possible. (That, or we will have to bale it shortly)!

We have had so very much rain lately;
even the hospital grounds are covered in mushrooms!

I did not/could not sleep Sunday night, so when I came back inside from mowing, I had to lie down and nap for a little bit.
That "little bit" lasted 'til almost midnight.
Kinda nice, that.
Although I do believe another is called for, shortly.

As I was leaving to go up to St. Marys yesterday, Jesse came to replace my chimney cap. It had gotten torn off in one of the snowstorms in Jan. or Feb. Two weeks ago, I had noticed a bird sitting on the antennae, and going down inside the chimney... Time to call in the brave one.
(God knows "Yours Truly" isn't crawling up there anytime soon).

Yup. Much braver than I...
It took him less than 15 minutes!
Less than 15 minutes...
To keep the birds out of the chimney;
AND to keep the rains out of my basement!
(I have a little river down there,
Running from the chimney to the drain).

That Phone Call Came

Good Morning All;

I am not sure what the real reason for her call was. (Am thinking I am a bit paranoid at this point?). And maybe righteously so?
Hmm...

Jenne called yesterday afternoon.
She wanted to know if I was still thinking of selling this place.
I asked her why she wanted to know.

She told me that she had 'known' this place her whole life and that it would be "right" for her to be here...
I don't think Mom and Dad would necessarily agree with that right about now; (nor do I at this point in time).

I said yes that I am still tempted to sell it..

She wanted to know what I would like to get for it.
I told her.

It was quite out of her price range, (bitch that I am, I am thankful for that).

But the trust factor within me- (and that same paranoia)- rears its ugly head...

Was she really calling to ask for herself?
Why?
Was z behind it?
Why?

Does it effing matter anyway???

Back when I had sold off those 10 acres, the man who bought the land wanted 1st dibs on the house too. I told him yes, but only AFTER my daughters had 1st right of refusal.
The good thing about that is there is NOTHING in writing pertaining to that...

Oh I am a terrible bitch...

Still a bit confused is all.

Once upon a time, there was a young(ish) lady who wanted to have a garden.
She asked her mama if she could borrow some dirt.
Her mama said "yes!"
(But that she had to do ALL of the work associated)...

So she was taught how to use the little Simplicity Tiller.

she had very good help to show her how to plant her garden!

(and my VERY GOOD NEWS)...

Due to circumstances beyond my control, ie: Mother Nasty, (er, I mean "Nature"), has decided for me that it will be too hot today to go out and mow.
(THAT is very good news for the grass at my home ~and at Kelli's too).

Mother Nasty, (er, I mean Nature), has also decided for me that it is too hot to hoe.
And THAT is VERY GOOD NEWS for my own weeds!

THEY SHALL LIVE ANOTHER DAY!!!!

Mother Nasty, (er, well you know), has also informed me that those same weeds might even get their last supper tonight.

That is, if they do not drown,
...(or get blowed into the next county).

My daughter called while I was shopping...
Last Friday night, her fiance was working in kitchen at 2:30 am and saw orbs.
He looked outside to see if it was his eyes but nothing there.
He looked in kitchen again and they were still there.
He decided to go to bed But went outside.
He felt someone over his shoulder, sorta hovering.
He looked and nobody was there, though felt it still.
He closed up garage and went in; deciding not to tell his fiance.
She saw her man sunday night.
Lady at work said there are alot of haunted houses in Green Bay
I actually don't think I want to sleep over now...

Hi Anne-
They just bought an older home in Green Bay together, and she had previously called to say she saw "a man in a yellow shirt looking down the hallway" when she got up in the wee hours. When she saw it, she could not speak, or scream; and froze in her tracks.
She knew it was not a 'real man', but was freaked out.
The home is 88 yrs old.
Their Boxer pup, cowers in her cage when both are gone at the same time.
I never read Sylvia Browne, but I have seen her on tv a couple times, and know you've mentioned 'orbs' in your photos.
I have read one book by Allison DuBois, from "Medium".
Both she and Browne seem to be the real deal.

My question is simply this...

As we got home from the vet yesterday...

Good Afternoon All;
Late today- Been fighting off my head... And I really am SO tired of that.

Life goes on.

I had to bring a few things to Casey at work yesterday- Arrived at lunchtime, and used our time to pick up her prescriptions at her doctor in Oneida.

While she went in, I took Punk to the back field and played fetch with her.
As Casey walked back out, I threw it one more time.
...Punk ran after it, lay down, and stayed there.

WTH?

She stayed there the whole time that it took Casey to walk out to the car.
When she finally got up, she was limping- Right front leg.
Two months ago, she had been limping too for over a week. Same leg- so not too sure what goes on there, but I knew I didn't want to have Gimpy hanging on for a week again, so we called in.
To remember that she needs her shots too...
Oh well. (Good thing I had my checkbook along)...

Getting there, there were a few other "patients"...

A little "mop" of a pooch that wasn't feeling too well; and a black lab that came out of the exam room shortly after my little Punk got weighed in.
(97.3 pounds).

Miss Punk and the Mop had a staredown from 3 chairs away.

The "Mop" barked at Punk.
This itty~bitty dog that sat so nicely on its owners lap.
A little yapping noise, (barely even a real "bark")...

Punk began to shake all over.
Worked up her courage and barked right back.
And promptly crawled upon my own lap.
Well, the front ½ of her anyway...

Angel, their receptionist, asks, "So what's it like to have a 100 pound lap dog?"
We all laughed at that...

But nope. That's NOT going to work!

At this point, the black lab came out of the exam room # 2.

With that, Punk started to cry- shiver, whine, and sob...
Too funny for words.

So, I have a 100 pound (lap) dog who all this time must have thought she was Dr. Spires only patient!
I took her outside for a few moments...

Dr. Spires said he can feel a slight difference from her right to her left shoulder...
(D'ya think the silly dog would even flinch and let him know when it hurt)?
Nope.
She won't let Casey or I know either...

We put off the x~rays, (as there will probably be another incident), and after getting all of her shots, he sent us home with some Rimadyl.
She had never been vaccinated for kennel cough. But it's not totally necessary if she isn't around a bunch of dogs... I told him to do it anyway. One never knows. (Especially with her)!

She has been a couch potato since then... (And since we haven't been doing anything of an aerobic nature , I have only given her one of those pills so far).
But that one pill sure knocked her off her paws...

Or maybe it's because of the shots she got.
I generally administer all of her shots- everything but the rabies. That one has to be state certified and such. Given that a drive to Green Bay is probably more expensive now than the difference the vet charges, I also had him do those...

I have been lazy too.
And am actually happy that it has been raining for the past few days so I can get off my foot for a while.
(I believe I saw my ankle this morning)... Say "YAY!"

On the very good news front, Berta has informed me that all of Jessica's stuff is out of her apartment.
(That saves me the bother of having to toss Jessica into traffic).

Roberta, Gabriel, (and his soon to be wee little brother) will probably even be able to move into another apartment by July 1st.
A good thing for them all.

Roberta has also been informed that due to her Uterine didelphys she will probably not be carrying this child to term.
(Aug 28).

It occurs when, in utero, the Müllerian ducts do not fuse properly. The ducts form two complete and separate uteri.
Each uterus also has its own cervix.
There is a septum down the middle of the vagina, which is sometimes called a double vagina.
There is one ovary to each uterus.
It is possible to get pregnant in both uteri at the same time.

She has carried both Lawrence and Gabriel in her other uterus. (This little guy chose to be different is all)...
Attaboy! Grandma loves you just the same!

I'd better get my butt busy around here... Need to vacuum up the cat and dog fur that looks like little animals in the corners.
As long as they don't have 8 legs I am fine with that all. (Guess there's worse things than having a few furry animals around)!

Casey has been feeling poorly for the past few days; fighting with her pancreas and all...
No, she has not missed any work because of it either!
(Say YAY! again)!

So let's see...

Punk is OK for now.
My head will go away soon.
Jessica is out on her keester.
Berta is moving.
Casey is loving her new job- just hating her pancreas.
And I have seen my ankle!!!

All in all, it has been a good week!!!

Nasty storms tomorrow and Saturday...
Not looking forward to those, (OR to the 86° heat that is to precede them).
And I do know that would be 'cooling things off' for some of you. Just not for me.

Not sure if these are all true or not... But this was a cool email...

Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little "stringy things" off of it. That's how the primates do it.
***In my NEXT life...

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.

Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simple chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream.

1. Reheat Pizza
Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

2. Easy Deviled Eggs
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

3. Expanding Frosting
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

4. Reheating Refrigerated Bread
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

5. Newspaper Weeds Away
Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers put layers around the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

6. Broken Glass
Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

7. No More Mosquitoes
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away.

8. Squirrel Away!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

9. Flexible Vacuum
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

10. Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and -- ta da! -- static is gone.

11. Measuring Cups
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out.

12. Foggy Windshield?
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

13. Reopening Envelope
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside , just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

14. Conditioner
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair...
15. Goodbye Fruit Flies
To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

16. Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home," can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works & you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

17. INFO ABOUT CLOTHES DRYERS
The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load of clothes.) He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink, ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material - I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. well,...the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free -- that nice fragrance too, you know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box, well t his stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire & potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (& to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out & wash it with hot soapy water & an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long!

Storms, Surge Protectors, and Stuff

Good Morning All!

As I emailed Casey yesterday, and hit 'send', quite simultaneously there was a HUGE crash of thunder...
Being the baby I am, I emailed her again, telling her about the BIG BANG!
Once again, AS I HIT 'SEND', there was another reminder of the storm that was upon me...
Only this time, what I heard/saw was "FLASH/CLICK"...
And we have ALL been that close to a storm, so you know what I'm talking about...

The 'flash' seemed to be outside the window, ~AND in the bookcase next to me at the same time.
Weird.
(And much too close for my comfort)!

I shut down the computer, and unplugged the surge protector from the outlet.

As the sky cleared, I got everything up and running again.

Well, almost everything...

Reminiscent of Yahoo's chronic message that stops you cold in our 360~World, came the message, "there is no dial tone"

WHAT?!?!?

Grabbing the phone, checking for a dial tone, I realized my computer was demented.
There was TOO a dial tone.

Tried again...

Same message.

that 'flash', seemingly from the bookcase,
had been my modem getting zapped... Grrr.....

I called, and left "Master~Computer~Guru", (aka ~Casey's~ Greg), a message telling him what happened; and asking what kind of modem to buy...

Went to town, stopped for groceries, met up with Casey at the store...
~ AND PROMPTLY FORGOT TO BUY A FREAKIN' MODEM.
(Of course I remembered as soon as I was home).

Yet you ask, HOW am I posting if I forgot to go to Best Buy?

I tried something else this morning; using the phone cord and bypassing my surge protector.

It worked.

I might have whined about the price tag of the Belkin surge protector I have,
(and I'd bought a pretty danged expensive one back when)...
But that surge protector did its job beautifully!
Of course NOW I have to go buy another; but hey, it sure saved my modem, and probably a multitude of other components too.
Funny though that the electricity did not get cut to/from it...

On the way home from town the skies opened up once more.

In time to have a fresh drink of water from Mother Nature.

(It has been terribly neglected of late, and the cloudy damp day will keep me inside for the most part).

Chives and Blooms!

These are some of Mama's chives-
gone to bloom already...
I took the picture, & there really WAS a bumble bee there.
I swear!

Good Morning Everyone;

Another weekend passed already...
And oh, so busy we have been!

Every day, it seems as though I throw a few more seeds around.

And walk by my 'rocks' a zillion times...

Just a few more of those rocks...

Another of my 'favorites'.
Always reminds me of an iceberg...

We need the rain of course... I just don't like the noise!

I have a new birdbath, and must get that out- My old one being beyond repair...
But I did find yet another clump of chives near the old one. Mama's chives.
Maybe I will separate them and bring one plant inside...
I dig them out, save the 'chive' part, (so I have a 'handle' on them).
Replant them.
Trim the chives, (the 'handle'), down to about ½".
Discard the tops, and within a week I will have more fresh chives!
These plants grow almost anywhere- They LOVE the sun; and a cup of water every now and then.

Yesterday brought me to yanking out more quack grass than should be allowed to grow anywhere, let alone on MY land! Guess you could say I was on a mission!

After only a little while I got so dizzy. Maybe a bug or something. Maybe a REAL bug too because my ankles are still all swolled up.

Not sure if it was the heat or not; (and given the state of my thyroid I think it might have been).

I came in the house, and full of goosebumps. (No, I wasn't cold)!

Notice the 1^stplace I come sit is right in from of the keyboard!

The scrape is from fighting with a pine tree a while back.
(Obviously the pine tree won)...

I ventured back out a few times, after taking 3 benedryl for the swollen ankles.
(They didn't work).
I would work a while, and come back inside.
(Just really pooped out).
I always take my vitamins and such- will have to do some research on everything else my doctor has me on too.

I did not make it to Baby Mariahs birthday celebration.
Will have to run those presents (and her card) over to Mike and Micki's sometime this week.
But there was NO way I was going to be driving anywhere as dizzy as I was.

Checking my 'calendar' here, I see that Jenny Mella will be leaving for camp in 2 days.
Seems as though she just graduated and came home!

Pushing the season a bit?
