FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Fort Washington, PA (July 8, 2010) – McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc., is recalling 21 lots of over-the-counter medicines. The lots involved, listed below, are sold in the United States, Fiji, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Trinidad & Tobago, and Jamaica. This action is a follow-up to a product recall that McNeil Consumer Healthcare originally announced on January 15, 2010, which was initiated following consumer complaints of a musty or moldy odor, which has been linked to the presence of trace amounts of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribromoanisole (TBA). The risk of serious adverse medical events is remote. This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

These lots are being added to the list of recalled products as a precautionary measure after a continuing internal review determined that some packaging materials used in the lots had been shipped and stored on the same type of wooden pallet that was tied to the presence of TBA in earlier recalled lots. All lots involved in the recall were produced before the January 15, 2010 recall, after which McNeil stopped accepting shipments of materials from its suppliers on that type of pallet.

Consumers who purchased product from the lots included in this recall should stop using the product and contact McNeil Consumer Healthcare for instructions on a refund or replacement.

For these instructions, and information regarding how to return or dispose of the product, consumers should log on to the internet at www.mcneilproductrecall.com or call 1-888-222-6036 (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time, and Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time).

Consumers who have medical concerns or questions should contact their healthcare provider.

Any adverse reactions may also be reported to the FDA's MedWatch Program by fax at 1-800-FDA-0178, by mail at MedWatch, HF-2, FDA, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockville, MD 20852-9787, or on the MedWatch website at www.fda.gov/safety/medwatch/default.htm.²

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama bypassed the Senate Wednesday and appointed Dr. Donald Berwick, a Harvard professor and patient care specialist, to run Medicare and Medicaid.

The decision to use a so-called recess appointment to install Berwick as administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services drew immediate fire from the GOP. Republicans have raised concerns about Berwick's views on rationing of care and other matters and said it was wrong for Obama to go around the normal Senate confirmation process. That view was echoed by a key Democratic committee chairman, although the recess appointment is a tool used by presidents of both parties.

Berwick has wide support in the medical community but some Democrats feared the GOP would use his confirmation hearings as an opportunity to reopen last year's divisive health care debate. Obama defended the decision to appoint Berwick and two other officials, one to a pension board and the other to a White House science post.

"It's unfortunate that at a time when our nation is facing enormous challenges, many in Congress have decided to delay critical nominations for political purposes," Obama said in a statement Wednesday. "These recess appointments will allow three extremely qualified candidates to get to work on behalf of the American people right away."

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell accused Obama of trying to "arrogantly circumvent the American people" with Congress out of town for its annual July Fourth break. Berwick could serve through next year without Senate confirmation.

"Democrats haven't scheduled so much as a committee hearing for Donald Berwick but the mere possibility of allowing the American people the opportunity to hear what he intends to do with their health care is evidently reason enough for this administration to sneak him through without public scrutiny," said McConnell, R-Ky.

Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., whose committee would have held Berwick's confirmation hearing, also said he was troubled by the recess appointment. "Senate confirmation of presidential appointees is an essential process prescribed by the Constitution that serves as a check on executive power," said Baucus. Berwick was nominated in April, and Finance Committee staff was still at work on the vetting process it undertakes prior to scheduling a confirmation hearing.

Berwick, 63, is a pediatrician, Harvard University professor and leader of a health care think tank, the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, that works to develop and implement concepts for improving patient care. The programs he will oversee — Medicare and Medicaid for the elderly, poor and disabled, along with the Children's Health Insurance Program — provide care to about 100 million people, or around 1 in 3 Americans.

The American Hospital Association and AARP were among the groups that weighed in to support Berwick Wednesday.

"Don has dedicated his career to engaging hospitals, doctors, nurses and other health care providers to improve patient care," said Rich Umbendstock, head of the hospital association. "A physician and innovator in health care quality, his knowledge of the health care system makes him the right choice."

Republicans have seized on comments like one Berwick made to an interviewer last year: "The decision is not whether or not we will ration care — the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open. And right now, we are doing it blindly."

Republicans say that shows Berwick would deny needed care based on cost. Supporters contend rationing already is done by insurance companies and Berwick simply wants transparency and accountability in medical decisions.

It's just those echoes of the health care debate that Democrats would prefer not to replay on the Senate floor.

Medicare has been without an administrator since 2006, and the White House says the need to fill the post is critical because of its role in implementing the new health care law. Medicare is to be a key testing ground for numerous aspects of the new law, from developing new medical techniques to trying out new payment systems, and the White House says a permanent leader is key with deadlines approaching.

Obama last made a batch of recess appointments in March. Also appointed Wednesday were:
_Philip E. Coyle III as associate director for national security and international affairs at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.
_Joshua Gotbaum as director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

Critters. Cabbage. (and Speed Limit Signs)?

Good Evening Everyone;
Rain. Rain. And more rain! If it didn't bring with it this godawful humidity, (dewpoint into the 70's), it would be even more welcome.

I spent only a few hours outside today, mostly getting out there before the sun is up, or as close to sundown as I can-  But this was still early enough so out I went to pull weeds and to transplant a few things.
By the time Casey got here at noon or so, I was completely drenched with sweat. (Oh that shower felt mighty good)!  I'd even thrown a few seeds around, but out mostly to pull weeds. The rains make weeding so nice, and they come out so easy.

A walk to the woods reveals the young cabbages are doing well-







As are the tomatoes...

Punk had her annual exam and vaccine consult yesterday morning. And boosters to her rabies vaccine, kennel cough, bordetella, DHPP,  Lymes, and Lepto.

Of course, Punk being Punk, also needed her anal sacs expressed.
(Hey! I know people like that)! hehehe
 


Punk saw him getting those gloves on... (and her tail disappeared)!

After a few intimate doggie dances with Doc Spires, it was learned that one of her glands was normal -(the size of a lima bean).
The other was the size of a golf ball! Glad I asked to have him check that too, although if I had waited it might have been part of the exam? Hmmm...

Leaving there early enough still, Casey wanted to stop at Burger King for a breakfast sandwich.

Oh the things you learn in one days time... Methinks Burger King in Suamico has a bit of a rodent problem.
 
At the drive-up, Punk learned that no matter how hard she pressed it with her face and head, the front windshield would not pop out to give her access to the gopher that had crossed in front of the car...



But that patience is a virtue too-



Turning her head just a tad, to be treated to yet another varmint-
This rat that ran from the garbage area was too gross to even look at. (Casey and I were exchanging the camera at this point so no pics of said varmints). Sorry.

At least those creatures were outside.

As we drove home, Punk, still reeling from the rodents at Burger King, (and her previous violation), decided that she didn't like the speed limit sign?





OK, maybe it was the guy that was peeing on it...

Back to the speed limit signs on our own road...

Casey and Punk are thick as thieves some days, and if Punk doesn't like the sign, then the sign must go.

Punk has a vet appointment this morning, a recheck for her stubborn UTI- added to boosters of her rabies vaccine too. It is raining and we have to bring in a fresh urine collection.
Now that's going to be a real challenge...

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 30, 2010 – San Diego – Tri-Union Seafoods LLC is issuing a precautionary, voluntary recall of a limited amount of Chicken of the Sea brand 12-ounce solid white tuna in water.

Due to a production error, the product does not meet the company's standards for seal tightness, and the company is conducting the precautionary, voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution to ensure public health, said Shue Wing Chan, president, Tri-Union Seafoods.

There have been no reported illnesses. Loose seals, or seams, could result in product contamination by spoilage organisms or by pathogens and lead to illness if consumed.

Tri-Union Seafoods' trace-back measures determined distribution of the product at retail was limited to 1,105 total cases in the states of Wisconsin, Nebraska, Utah, Pennsylvania, New York, Maine, Colorado, Indiana, California and Oregon. The Chicken of the Sea brand 12-ounce solid white tuna in water was distributed in February and May. Consumers who purchased the product with the UPC code 4800000262, "Best By Date 2/10/2014" and product code 7OA1E ASWAB, 7OA2E ASWAB, 7OA3E ASWAB, 7OA4E ASWAB, 7OA5E ASWAB, 7OAEE ASWAB or 7OAFE ASWAB are asked to call 1-877-843-6376 for return information and a full refund. The UPC code (also known as bar code) is found on the side of the can and the best by date and product code are imprinted on the bottom of the can. No other codes of solid white tuna in water or any other Chicken of the Sea products are affected by this voluntary recall.

"The health and safety of our customers and consumers is paramount. As soon as we discovered this production error, we took immediate steps in issuing this precautionary, voluntary recall, and alerting the appropriate regulatory authorities," said Chan. "We have notified all of our customers who have received the product and asked them to remove it from their shelves. Our immediate actions in this recall include re-evaluating our systems to ensure this error does not happen again."

Consumers looking for additional information can call 1-877-843-6376 24 hours per day, seven days per week.

A Walk and a Drive...

Punk and I took a walk the other day.
The field hands had left their equipment, so I had to check this one out.




A long process to plant those cabbages individually. (Or even 4 at a time).

Though cabbage disagrees with me, terribly, there comes a time that I must have it anyway; so I will be lifting a few heads! hehehe

When we got back up top, and home, Punk had to check something out.



She just kept sniffing and sniffing...
I have no idea what it was that smelled so attractive,


But in-between pictures, she fell in!


Kelli and Tim had to steal their trailer last weekend to get more work done around.


She waved at me as I walked around the corner...
(Yikes! Maybe it was sign language)?


Only the back of the shed knows for sure! hehehe


We went down there the other day- Kelli was working on the horse enclosure and had seen me pull in, so she drove up to greet me-


And yes, I got right on behind her too! (Shhh, don't tell my doctor)!

From the back vantage point (that I haven't been able to get to because of the darn mud), I snapped a rare picture-


That little puddle is deep, and it was grand fun getting through it!


Happy that I had come by, it was high time for KelliBaby to take a break!

We were out by the pond.
Miss Coco was barking her head off because I had left Punk in the car-
(Those barks may have woken Tim up)! Oops.

He let Punk out of the car, and first thing she does is grab a stick...



So I threw it in the pond.
(What would you have done? Same thing)! hehehe
She is a spoiled little child, and I cannot say no to her for long-




And she fetched it too!


This went on and on- I had to find a smaller stick every time because Coco would run off with them all. (I have NO idea where she was putting them)!?


They do play together very well.



Punk won that tug of war-
But only for a very short minute...

Coco takes a running jump and shoots right over Punkin.
See, Punk opens her mouth in disbelief while Coco is flying over, and loses her stick!

But Punk always gets her back somehow...

Meanwhile, Miss Kelli is convincing Mr. Miller that he should go in too.

But shortly, there comes a time that he cannot resist either!

HAHAHA!     "Go Miller!"

No matter who is in the pond, Punk loves every minute of it!




And we love watching them too!
Punk does need watching- For some reason she has a problem keeping her hindquarters going in the water- Must be those hips of hers, but sometimes she scares me too-

It is to be 85 to 90 this weekend- Methinks we shall be going down the road once or twice to throw the dog (and a stick or two) in.
(Hopefully Kelli and Tim will be home too). hehehe

I hope too that all is well in your little corner of the world!
Casey will be coming out shortly and I must get my butt in gear.

Casey Update- And Her New Friend

Good Morning All;
When we went to the clinic for Casey's exam for her pain, she had a few things going on.
1st, after all those infusions, her blood counts are only up to 7.3.

2nd, with those blood tests they checked her blood sugar too. (Remember, she does not take insulin).
Her blood sugar was at 50. Those islet cells sure are working very well. Odd though as she'd had a Mountain Dew for her migraine at that point in time.
They gave her an option of "Grape or Orange?"
She chose grape and had to eat 6 big sugar pills to bring it up (before she fell over).

While waiting for everything, she did make a new friend...

This is Fred.  (Whom she promptly goosed).



Fred was not real amenable to such a loose and forward young woman-


and had to check her records first...

Many of you knew me LONG before I started blogging. Most have known me for most of my words on 360 and here...

A few days ago, Maidens blog had begun as some laughable words she'd taken from her FaceBook, and later on turned into me offering the following:

GOP. Unemployment.

Yes, it is most decidedly a rant. It is a can of worms, almost guaranteed to upset a few of you.
Grab a cup of coffee- it is also long. (PLUS, the caffeine is good for you).

If you are fortunate enough to still have your job 4+ years into this crap, you are indeed lucky.

I will begin by quoting: "If you voted Republican in the last three elections, you ought to go to Hell."

GOP: Stop Punishing the Unemployed (CLICK)

Democrats are working hard to fix the economy Republicans nearly destroyed.
In the meantime, struggling American families must rely on unemployment benefits to pay the rent, put food on the table and keep up with bills. Unbelievably, Republicans are filibustering an extension of these benefits in yet another attempt to make President Obama fail.

Sign the petition  (CLICK). Give Republican leaders a piece of your mind. Tell them to stop playing political games with people’s livelihoods. It is simply unconscionable that Republicans would hurt out-of-work Americans to make a political point. The obstruction must end.

Time and again I have literally begged people to search, read, (and most importantly to comprehend), what is going on.
I have offered links as proof that there was/is no death panel, and that Congress really does pay into social security. Ad nauseum, I still receive the emails proclaiming crap like this to be true.

It is my belief that every bill will be waylaid, since McCain spoke those words.
Replying to the McCain quote- Frum, (former GW Bush speechwriter) claims, "Rigid conformity is being enforced, no dissent is allowed, and the conservative brain will slowly shrivel into dementia if it hasn't already."

This morning, still hopeful for our nation of unemployed, I read this-

CNNMoney interviewed Rich Thompson, a vice president of staffing firm Adecco Group North America, who said, “I don’t have hard numbers, but three out of the last four conversations I’ve had about openings, this requirement was brought up.” It was also noted that after such listings were brought to the attention of media, most companies immediately took them down.
However, experts say that even if companies don’t put out such listing, most unemployed applicants are usually “ruled out right off the bat.”

For gods sake people, who/what have we elected?

Are we this blind, or apathetic, to our own fellow Americans?
The answer must be a resounding "yes".

Note the sheer volume of dollars being sent away from America- (and those being misspent in America too).

God only knows that I had a hard enough time sending my kids back to school each year while I was working full~time. I thanked them wholeheartedly when they were old enough to have jobs of their own could buy their own little things...
