Kinda hard because Mama Milly was everywhere. It has stopped hurting so much; but now I find myself belatedly second~guessing. Perhaps we all go through this...

A few days ago, I had asked Sweet Pea to send me some of her rain from Southern California. She readily agreed to do this.
I have checked my weather tonight. Only to find a Winter~Storm~Watch!?
(Pea, I do not think rain should be white. Nor did I want 6-8" of it).

Apparently it is to land on us tomorrow afternoon, evening, night, and all day Wednesday too.
This, coupled with a storm from Canada (Where)!?! hehehe They really are not sure how much we will get. Could be more. Could be less.
But it ain't gonna be rain!

Rain for a day would have helped me with this extension cord.

Casey has someone coming from Milwaukee to maybe buy the old Roadmaster.

Not too sure when he is coming, (but I was sure that he would not have appreciated the drivers front tire being flat, or the battery being dead).
To deal with this, I finally broke down and bought another charger, and a new air compressor.

The tire is inflated, thanks to an extension cord borrowed from Jenny Mella's mom, and to Jim too. But I still have to hook up the charger. I shall buy another extension cord tomorrow. (One can never have too many anyway, not around here).

Casey has an appointment early, and I shall stop then.
She is doing very well, save for the fact that she is weighing only between 99 and 101 pounds.

That dirt being complete with all its own little additives; (aka the feces of many species).

And I also know that it is a falsehood that we swallow spiders in our sleep.

'Course we might swallow those same spiders if we keep our heads in the sand.
(And we might also swallow a whole bunch more dirt while we are at it)...

THE Georgia peanut company at the center of one of our nation’s worst food-contamination scares has officially reached a revolting new low: a recent inspection by the Food and Drug Administration discovered that the salmonella-tainted plant was also home to mold and roaches.

You may be grossed out, but insects and mold in our food are not new. The F.D.A. actually condones a certain percentage of “natural contaminants” in our food supply — meaning, among other things, bugs, mold, rodent hairs and maggots.

In its (falsely) reassuringly subtitled booklet “The Food Defect Action Levels: Levels of Natural or Unavoidable Defects in Foods That Present No Health Hazards for Humans,” the F.D.A.’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition establishes acceptable levels of such “defects” for a range of foods products, from allspice to peanut butter.

Among the booklet’s list of allowable defects are “insect filth,” “rodent filth” (both hair and excreta pellets), “mold,” “insects,” “mammalian excreta,” “rot,” “insects and larvae” (which is to say, maggots), “insects and mites,” “insects and insect eggs,” “drosophila fly,” “sand and grit,” “parasites,” “mildew” and “foreign matter” (which includes “objectionable” items like “sticks, stones, burlap bagging, cigarette butts, etc.”).

Tomato juice, for example, may average “10 or more fly eggs per 100 grams [the equivalent of a small juice glass] or five or more fly eggs and one or more maggots.” Tomato paste and other pizza sauces are allowed a denser infestation — 30 or more fly eggs per 100 grams or 15 or more fly eggs and one or more maggots per 100 grams.

Canned mushrooms may have “over 20 or more maggots of any size per 100 grams of drained mushrooms and proportionate liquid” or “five or more maggots two millimeters or longer per 100 grams of drained mushrooms and proportionate liquid” or an “average of 75 mites” before provoking action by the F.D.A.

The sauerkraut on your hot dog may average up to 50 thrips. And when washing down those tiny, slender, winged bugs with a sip of beer, you might consider that just 10 grams of hops could have as many as 2,500 plant lice. Yum.

Giving new meaning to the idea of spicing up one’s food, curry powder is allowed 100 or more bug bits per 25 grams; ground thyme up to 925 insect fragments per 10 grams; ground pepper up to 475 insect parts per 50 grams. One small shaker of cinnamon could have more than 20 rodent hairs before being considered defective.

Peanut butter — that culinary cause célèbre — may contain approximately 145 bug parts for an 18-ounce jar; or five or more rodent hairs for that same jar; or more than 125 milligrams of grit.

In case you’re curious: you’re probably ingesting one to two pounds of flies, maggots and mites each year without knowing it, a quantity of insects that clearly does not cut the mustard, even as insects may well be in the mustard.

The F.D.A. considers the significance of these defects to be “aesthetic” or “offensive to the senses,” which is to say, merely icky as opposed to the “mouth/tooth injury” one risks with, for example, insufficiently pitted prunes. This policy is justified on economic grounds, stating that it is “impractical to grow, harvest or process raw products that are totally free of non-hazardous, naturally occurring, unavoidable defects.”

The most recent edition of the booklet (it has been revised and edited six times since first being issued in May 1995) states that “the defect levels do not represent an average of the defects that occur in any of the products — the averages are actually much lower.” Instead, it says, “The levels represent limits at which F.D.A. will regard the food product ‘adulterated’ and subject to enforcement action.”

Bugs in our food may not be so bad — many people in the world practice entomophagy — but these harmless hazards are a reminder of the less harmless risks we run with casual regulation of our food supply. For good reason, the F.D.A. is focused on peanut butter, which the agency is considering reclassifying as high risk, like seafood, and subjecting it to special safety regulations. But the unsettling reality is that despite food’s cheery packaging and nutritional labeling, we don’t really know what we’re putting into our mouths.

Soup merits little mention among the products listed in the F.D.A.’s booklet. But, given the acceptable levels for contaminants in other foods, one imagines that the disgruntled diner’s cri de coeur — “Waiter, there’s a fly in my soup!” — would be, to the F.D.A., no cause for complaint.

I have a bunch of running around to do today, and we are leaving shortly.

Nope. But I always have Rock Show (Sirius-TV) on the background.


9) If you could unlearn something what would it be?
Absolutely not. It has all made "ME" what I am today.

Literally, dozens.

Both of them are. I do not buy on credit for autos. hehehe
(Well, not the last three anyway).


12) How is the weather right now where you live?
Bit decent, warmish for February. But gloomy outside...

No wonder kids won't eat their veggies and have nightmares.

Fish and veggies (no cacti)

I caught myself- for the 100th time, looking out the kitchen window- specifically to look toward the kennel.
Wonder how long it takes to settle in that she won't be there no matter how many times I look? (And she has been INside all winter too).

Of course there are still times that I think to call Mom, just for that split~second... (And she's been gone 10+ years).

Punk is getting along well enough
Every now and then to just stare into the distance, to cry a bit...
But we have been playing outside lots too.

As many of you know, I probably don't live alone.
But what you don't know is that I finally got a new camera.
It has night vision on it. Infrared. And I have been having fun just taking random shots every now and then.
On the first night, I probably took about 20 shots just sitting on the couch after waking up about 2Am.
As I uploaded them the next day, I realized something was quite weird-
About ½-way through the pictures I'd taken on that night... (I hadn't moved either the camera or myself).

Good Evening Everyone;
I want warmth- Like in the above picture.

Even the floorboards seem quieter tonight. The furnace is running- It is cold outside.
And sometimes that cold just permeates, and stays for a while.
I think that's how my bones feel right now.

We got back here maybe 2 hours ago. Punk so happy to see us. And always such a great welcome home.
The few times that I leave her here, one would think I was gone for months on end.
Such a warm and loving welcome though.

Punk sleeps now.
Curled up on that darn little squeak ball that she took from the entrance.
Her Mama Milly's little ball.

She didn't want her collar. ~Just that damned little ball.

She knows.

She ran out to the car when we got back. She ran all around it, sniffing-
Then she turned, looking toward the open kennel, and came back to me.
No place else to go. Not in the dark. Not in the cold.

She knows.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance...
Her bright eyes are intent; Her eager body quivers.
Suddenly she begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, her legs carrying her faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....                                     unknown


Yesterday Miss Milly went into heat. With the surge in her hormones, one can only guess that it made the tumor inside grow so swiftly as to force her uterus to prolapse.

Milly turned 13 - On Christmas Day.
She left Casey and I about 7:15 at the Animal E.R. in Green Bay.

She had somewhere very important to go you see.

And I know where she is and what she is doing too.
She waits now, "just this side of Heaven."
Patient as she always was.

I can only guess there are children and puppies where she is.
And maybe a little hideaway where she can escape every now and then.
A place that only herself and God know about

While many companies are laying off, the U.S. Census Bureau plans to hire more than 13,000 people in Wisconsin for its upcoming population count.

Workers will be needed for a variety of jobs, including census takers, recruiting assistants, clerks, administrative staff and crew leaders, according to Muriel Jackson, a spokeswoman for the Chicago Regional Census Center, which will oversee the count in Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.

Work starts this spring and goes through the completion of the census next year. Jackson says pay starts at $14 per hour.

The U.S. Constitution requires a census to be conducted every 10 years.

I am happy to say that I have NOT worn my Sorels boots for 4 days.
Not that I haven't gone outside... Just that they haven't been necessary for warmth.
The temps have been in the high 20's. Too bad that will end tonight as the mercury dips to about 7 below once more.
(I have worn the other boots with the cleats on though). Still so much ice for me to chip away at.

With the advent of sunshine and warmer temps, things are beginning to show up from under the snow.

I dug out my very 1st digital camera for these! It is an old Sony (DSC-P32) that for some reason drains the batteries even when it is not "on".

Good Morning Everyone;
At least it was for me until someone questioned my veracity...

Earlier this morning, I read an email from a group I once belonged to. The writer was not vague about WHO she spoke of; (actually she named me specifically).
Not only was this sentence there, " I can understand that, as it takes a certain strength of character to remain... [positive, compassionate, warmhearted when dealing with sick people every day]..."  etc etc etc... blah blah blah.

Be that as it may, she not only questioned my inner strength, she twisted many of my words- Some (using my words as her own)- to pat herself on the back with- Others being blatant lies.
Perhaps too, being more than a little sleep deprived, I have made a mountain out of a molehill.
But when someone basically calls me a liar, it hurts my heart.

• Do I embellish a bit on describing a photo or two? Yes. I do. But otherwise my content is true.
• Did this happen on my blogs? No. It did not.

I have worn MANY hats, in my adult life, (and probably an equal number of "labels"); but at no point has anyone rightfully called me a liar. There have been those who have tried. None of them were ever right.

I have basically come to terms with all the lies told about me during childhood and teenage years-

All that growing up BS that should have been outgrown long ago by my sister, but sadly was not. (In the end this is Mary's problem, not mine).
Oh we all have stories to tell about being on the wrong side of the accusation...

My apologies, I have digressed. Mary is NOT what my feelings are of today. (But I do believe that is where my sensitivity to lies came from).
Nor have I forgotten what it feels like to have someone be untruthful.

Having been made to "prove" myself, time and time, (and time again), I learned very early on to save, file, and document things that got said and/or written about/to me.
(I still have all of my ex-husbands letters to me, as he wrote each and every time to apologize for beating the crap out of me. And we were divorced in 1980)!

Again I have digressed.

And so it goes in this wonderful computer age as well?

I still have the first real email letter I have ever received from anyone. All the way up to the present.
Lots of files there too that could blow a few fish out of the water!
Mostly though, they really are "happy" files. (No I do not save jokes and fwd's).

Save for the "little white lies" I believe it IS the principle of the matter; and that there is never an excuse for lying.

Am I wrong?
Is it too much to ask for black and white?
Or are there truly shades of gray?

What is the worst lie anyone told about/to you?
You know, the one you won't forget it ever because of how much it hurt. Please know that this is certainly NOT the worst anyone has done. In fact, ignorance can be even laughable most days.
Still, it sent me way back...

Good Morning Everyone;
As you ALL know by now, Casey has had her TP/AIT Transplant.
Her pancreas is gone completely, and she must now check her blood sugars every day, 4 times a day.
Also, she must take her digestive enzymes before, during and after each meal. To not do this would leave her with intense pain from the food being completely undigested.

She has been on enzymes for years before her surgery already, so this was no big deal for her after her transplant.

Fast forward to yesterday.

She needed her enzymes prescription refilled. So off to the pharmacy. At Oneida, she does not pay for these prescriptions, so it it obvious where she needs to pick them up. (Saving us about $200.00 month).

They did not have the correct ones.

• She uses the ones that dissolve in her stomach and NOT her intestines.
• They only carry the intestinal ones.

After arguing with the pharmacist who told her they couldn't (wouldn't) get them in, she had no choice but to take what was given to her.

We broke one open. It was not powder that could have been taken with meals. Instead, it was filled with hard little balls that obviously could not be crushed.

Then came lunch.
Casey needs to take this new prescription 1/2 hour before she can put anything in her mouth. (The other script from Dr. Sutherland dissolves immediately in her stomach, allows her to take them right before she eats, and while she is eating also).
She takes at least 4 (of either), with each meal or snack.

Lunchtime then called for a contact to the doctor- Would the new enzymes still work in her stomach even though they did not open until they reached the intestines?
A good question that needed answering.
Casey called, the nurse thought 'yes'.
And so we ate. With no complications during or after her meal.

A good thing. And another hurdle was cleared.

Well, until I came online last night...

Casey had left hours before, expecting company at her home. I had these two links in my inbox CLICK HERE or HERE if you are taking painkillers or digestive enzymes from either Ther-Rx Corporation OR ETHEX Corporation. (Or click on the names of the companies).
I forwarded the links to Casey immediately, and called to tell her to check them.

The digestive enzymes she hadn't wanted to take in the first place are a part of a nationwide recall.

Since she still had the prescription bottle with refills from Minnesota, I told her to call a few pharmacies in Green Bay and to bring her empty prescription bottle from Dr. Sutherland to get a refill.

No easy task. Those pills were not to be found anywhere in Green Bay, but if she wanted to drive to Appleton, (40 miles south), one pharmacy did have them.
Taking the recalled variety was not an option, (nor is NOT eating anything for three days while the pharmacies order them for her). She opted to drive down there at 8:30 at night.

I got the phone number of the pharmacy from her while she was in transit, and called to give them my credit card information.
No. They would not take it over the phone.
WHAT?!? (I do this at CVS here in town all the time)!

I asked for the manager.
"Ed" came on the line, and I explained the situation, (her surgeries and the importance of these pills) to him. He said he could not do that either.
Long story short(er)... If Casey brought the credit card info in they would run it that way.

Thank God.
She now has the proper enzymes to take.
Not sure what to do about the recalls and all. Probably return the prescription to Oneida. And I will probably have to demand that they order the correct prescription in.
This is something she absolutely needs to take for her entire life. Why would they not accommodate her?
I shall just have to find out.

My guess is that the peanut butter companies will be following suit shortly...

PCA is voluntarily taking this larger recall action following almost two weeks of inspection and review at the Georgia facility.

The expanded recall includes all peanuts (dry and oil roasted), granulated peanuts, peanut meal, peanut butter and peanut paste. All of the recalled peanuts and peanut products were made only at the company’s Blakely, Georgia facility; the lot numbers and a description of the products being recalled are listed at the end of this release. The Blakely, Georgia facility has stopped producing all peanut products.

Because some of our peanut products have been used by manufacturers of pet food, we are also alerting the public that Salmonella is an organism that can potentially be transferred to people handling pet treats exposed to Salmonella, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products. Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Well animals can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

Good Morning All;
Mad at my camera- (Probably mad at myself too). I have a huge scratch in my camera lens that I have no idea where it came from. STINK!
At this point I am thinking to buy a new camera instead of replacing the lens. The digital cameras have sure come down in price since I bought my first one; and I will at some point go "in search of"...
I am also thinking that little trip could be lots of fun!

I have been awake since before 3AM- One of those nights where sleep came early, and wouldn't come again... Too easy this way to get my days and nights mixed up.

That is alright for right now though... I prefer to be awake and to turn a faucet on every now and then- 7 below zero right now- Not as bad as yesterday when it was 13 below.

For everyone dealing with the awful ice storms countrywide, my heart goes out to you. If you still have power, run some water now so you have it for when the power goes out.
Truthfully, I would rather deal with the obscene temperatures we have had than all your ice.
