[My] Life in Wisconsin

Casey. Punk. Both a Bit Sleep Deprived.

Casey- At the hotel.
That is bruising under her eyes...

Hi all
We are home.

Greg and Casey at Home!

I was wrong in my earlier entry...
Casey WILL be needing to restart the iron infusions.
She begins those tomorrow.
I will repost more about that after that appointment.

Casey and Punk, resting
At the hotel-

Punk- On the way home- Happier than all get out!

Fresh Air

In direct contrast to Casey-

Feeling Nasty
Those darn headaches of hers- with tummy pain also.

No Road Construction? hehehe

Wish she was just trying to get past these without looking? We didn't hit too much construction-
In Wisconsin, all the highway road crews need to be finished, or at least have all roads open to Green Bay, for home Packer Games.
(And what a great game it was)!

It has been chilly weatherwise. down to the low 40's at night, and to the high 60's or so during the day.
Unless it rains the temps in the house aren't too bad yet.
We are to have a temperature spike tomorrow to bring the temps to the mid 70's! But of course along with those warmer temps come the promise of a few storms.
Oh well. Like they say, you can't win them all.

It is time to prepare for Fall and Winter.
While shopping the other day I did remember to get a new furnace filter. I have been forgetting for some time now, and I only had the non-disposable filter that came with the furnace. That one is fine to use during the Summer when I only want to run the fan to circulate the air, but not near good enough when the furnace needs to heat my living spaces. (I do have the entire upstairs unheated- and also the back bedroom downstairs that gets no heat).

Finally I buy my new filter- (I am still so proud that I remembered to do that)!

Changing the old filter out I also add a bit of my homemade air freshener.
Going to smell good in here- a bit of potpourri and vanilla too.

Now throw in an eccentric dog...
When I go to the basement, Punk refuses to go down, unless I specifically ask.
Weird dog!

ARF! "No I won't go in the basement!"
She sits at the top of the steps-
Methinks she is waiting for an invitation.
  hehehe

At any rate, I am all ready for the cold to come and set in.
Wait...
Apparently I am not.
---  I found one little snafu to the whole thing.

Uh-Oh
Oops
No use even thinking about turning the darn thing on now.
hehehe

Punk is trying to fight sleep right now.

Sleepy Punk
hehehe

Maybe I am too.

Long afternoon tomorrow.
I will close for now, and get to bed too...

Love to all.
I hope all is well in your little corner of the world. And I will get to checking your own blogs and news as soon as I can.

XOXO
Me

Casey, and Our "Tick-Tock Morning", Friday.

Rodney and I.
Casey took the picture- (What's NOT to be smiling at, for us two)?

Good Morning Everyone.
Yesterday, and with 5 separate alarms to wake us...
Oh OK, maybe just the first few thoughts.

I wake.
Stretch.
Time for only one smile, and a peek at the clock reminds me that we are leaving bright and early.
Stretch again-
Put glasses on.
Look at clock again. OMG!!! I have overslept by an hour!  WHAT?
Good god help me.

(
Know that I had set two separate alarms)!!!
They will be going off at those same points every afternoon; repeatedly, until we get home to shut them off.
hehehe (AM/PM settings are bass~ackwards on that clock, - I had obviously forgotten that little fact).
AM? PM? What's the Diff?

Casey had also set two alarms on her phone. Knowing she has a tendency to hit snooze, she set her phone near her pillow before falling to sleep.
At least, those alarms went off. (U
nbeknownst to her, the while she slept, that darn alarm clock/phone had fallen under the waterbed mattress).

Greg's alarm went off, he had shut it off a few times...
(Asleep, but in the back of his mind he knew that Casey had told him she would wake him).

Sooooooo... My morning consisted of the following-
Jump out of bed!
Hit the floor moving. (Bewilder dog by doing so).
Holler up the stairs...

Finish drying that last load of clothes.
Pack. (In a furious fashion).
Feed/water dog.
Let the poor thing outside.
(Promptly forget about her)
Be still for a minute, just to listen.
I hear no noise...
Holler up the stairs again.
Scramble to dress.
Run brush through hair.
Hurry to look non-frightening to small children and their parents.
Forget about putting on makeup- (Heck, it's pitch dark, and who cares anyway)?
Wildly throw bare essentials
in car. (This includes sick child and confused dog).
Ask Greg to please lock up.
Pull out of driveway- Redefine the phrase "Bat out of hell"...
Tell Casey to start talking, (or I might go right back to sleep).
Chug some Pepsi.
Know that dark, fast, and rainy is no way to drive through life, or Wisconsin. And pray to the powers that be that there will be no kamikaze venison hanging out on highway.

Pit stop for us all about ½way here-

Top off gas tank.
Grab some more caffeine.
Shove sweet roll down my throat.
3 empty bladders later, (and a poo for the pup), we hit the road again.
Keep redefining the above
"Bat out of hell" definition... we pass trucks we had already passed 75 miles earlier, and a little over an hour ago-

Pass cow on road.
  Wait.. What?  Check rearview mirrors.
Realize that Casey has mouth hanging open too- (An odd reflection of my own).

Yes, that was a cow.
(Remind me to alter that prayer to include the kamikaze beef also).
But there she was- little brown jersey- just watching the traffic go past with those beautiful big brown eyes of hers.
..

KC calls hitchhiking cow in to 911.
(I thoroughly enjoy eavesdropping on the conversation that ensued).

Tick Tock...
Casey's appointment is for 10.

Keep on trucking, not even interested in watching the clock. It is passing minutes as we are passing other vehicles.

After all this, we arrive here at 9:06 anyway. hehehe
An extra hour early!
(WOOT Baby, WOOHOO)!
There is time enough leftover to find a room and unpack a little!
Got a room, with the bare minimum of rooms available due to NFL game in town this weekend; but a room for us anyway.

Punk was so happy to see Trent at the front desk! (She is assured a room for an extra night)- Not us though.
hehehe
We changed from travel clothes to something a bit more human. (Keeping in mind that poorly folded, and even wrinkled, is better- somehow).  And to remember not to wear purple in this town.

Finally to be here -
- and on our way to see Dr. S. for 10.
Leave Casey off in front of clinic.
Find parking ramp.
Find stall.
Hightail it back down to tunnel to clinic.
Whew...

I borrowed a ride on the patient/visitor golf cart/transport- Nice to see Mr. George again - Such a nice man, (AND he even remembered me)!
  hehehe

Caseys doctor visit?
I will borrow words I had left within yesterdays blog comments.

Dr. S. has ordered many tests-
We will have to return for a few of those, (to include an appointment for the hematological aspect of this all).

They drew about 12 vials of blood-
Casey is ordered OFF the lovenox for now. (He believes that most blood clots will resolve).
For follow up to go back to the hospital in town, or to her GP. Will keep an eye on it.

But he does want to investigate WHERE this is coming from? More accurately put, where her iron is going to.

He also said that she probably will not need the infusions-
A few Rx things to change, and to try those suggested measures first.
She is also to take Protonix every day.
Again, your thoughts and positive well wishes and prayers keep us going."

She write down everything! Her questions for, and replies from, all of her visits.
Too bad she doesn't blog about it all. (Hint hint Casey)!

Dr. Sutherland and Casey

The scale shows that between Thursday and Friday she has gained 13 pounds.
Granted her weights were taken at 2 different hospitals- (but 13 pounds)? Even if you allow a difference of 5 pounds- she has still gained 8 pounds.
That is still one heck of a difference!

Retaining 'Something"
One can see that she has begun retaining water, fluids, something...

Compare that one to her injection photo from Thursday.

At the least, you can see that this same tummy was not swollen one bit Thursday.

Casey, Self-Injecting
There is no fluff anywhere on this child of mine. Just lots of skin and bone! hehehe

Bruising From the Lovenox
Casey, showing her Lovenox injection bruising.

Here she is, once again to be reminded of the hitchhiking cow.

Casey~FACE!
(Ok- maybe it was something she couldn't understand ie: what the nurse just said).
hehehe

The very top photo here is of myself and my brother-in-law, Rodney- He is my sister Barbara's husband.
He came to the hotel to visit, and we had the very nicest chat! Nice to be able to be reminded to laugh at this whole ordeal too!
We were so happy to see him- I haven't, in too many years. They recently lived in Alabama, now have moved to Florida.

Uncle Rodney and Casey
Casey with her Uncle Rod!

Stealing from his own intellect, he had many great ideas for Casey!
First is to remind us that not everything that happens to her will be because of all the GI issues she has had.
After checking her a bit, he suggested that there is a possibility of a kidney infection. That if she keeps getting those- or has had the bloody kidney infection in the past, to get this angle checked out. (This would also account for her fever)!
Add to that the fact that no one recalls when she last even had a urinalysis.

Secondly he offered, her pain, given the location, might also be suggestive of an ovarian cyst, to make an appointment with an OB/GYN. (Due to a bad experience last month, she already had one set up)!

Sometimes it takes a little reminding that Casey might not be an abnormal young lady. And here we are always thinking that things are happening one way- and then forgetting the definition of comorbidity.
Such practical advice. (Thank you Rodney)!

Back to yesterdays doctor visit, we have not yet heard how any of her blood tests have turned out. Some will take a while to get the results from, but some had to have come back yesterday also. Will know more today, maybe.

Trent did find us a room for tonight also, we won't be needing it until we return for those tests and stuff.
I will close for now. Getting more punchy by the minute here.
I need to lie down a bit more, and maybe even sleep! I had taken Punk out earlier, and she has been snoozing ever since.
Now, it's my turn.   hehehe

Have a 'wunnaful' weekend!
My love to all!

XOXO
Me

Casey. ER. Blood Clot.

Casey is very ill-
Your prayers, thoughts, etc are ALWAYS appreciated...

Not sure where to begin...
We all had very long morning-
Casey does have a blood clot in her arm. There could be more elsewhere... (Not crossing that bridge).

This clot in her arm? I got the impression that it was small?
(Admittedly, I do not know what the definition is of 'small' for a clot either).

Blood Clot
Maybe this is small?

They gave her an ultrasound-

Casey US

Should anyone know what the heck this represents, please let me know? hehehe

The pain she described as hot and stabbing- "like there's a knife in there and it won't come out."
She felt it all the way down to her thumb- said it felt like she banged her elbow- Just perpetually.

She is now also on Lovenox, 50/5
Not sure, but I still have to look all that info up.

(I do remember giving these shots to Randall in his tummy after his stroke).

Casey, Self-Injecting

She gave herself one injection at the hospital-
Another later tonight-

We got home, trying and trying to get through to Dr. Sutherland-
His asst called me back shortly after 4.  Dr S. wants Casey there by 10 tomorrow morning.
Ann-Marie told me that this sounds very serious; and could not understand why her docs here wanted just to give her more infusions.
(
Hey wait! Wasn't that MY question)!!!

She did offer to check on that for me- This offer, right before she said to come in by 10AM - So I declined that offer- Knowing that we should have some answers, or at least maybe a better "plan" after we see him.

Good timing here- My dryer has just buzzed...

That stated, I need to fold my clothes, treat my freakin' head, and lie down and 'nap' for a bit. I will pack when I wake.
We will leave here by 3AM.   With the good lord willin' and the creeks don't rise.

My love to all.

XOXO
Me

Rocket Science -and Casey

A bashful Black Eyed Susan!
hehehe

Good Morning!
As many of you know, Casey's blood work has come back, in part.
She is sleeping- all day long- awake for a few hours, then back to sleep.
Her iron is at 2.0- Not near close enough to function. For now, she is at home.
I spoke to her a few times yesterday.

She awaits a call back from Minnesota.

The doctors here have come up with a brilliant plan...
They would like her to do 6 more infusions before they do anything else; including looking for a possible intestinal bleed.
Wait...   WHAT?!?

My question to her doctor remains unanswered, "If the 1st 6 infusions had little/no lasting effects, what makes them think that the next 6 will be their cure for her?"

I asked that question 3 different times while on the phone with him.
He skirted an acceptable answer by stating that Casey's veins were small and that this was the reason they had to go so slow.
(So what difference then does it make whether they went slow or fast as the iron was still getting IN her veins with each infusion)?
I reminded him nicely that Casey's veins had not changed one bit since she had received the first 6 infusions...

She received 125 mg iron each time, diluted in saline.  To go any higher is to risk even more side effects than she did previously- Including the lasting side~effects that she is STILL experiencing!
As recently as Tuesday, she was here- and had diplopia, (double vision).
Not to mention her unrelenting migraines, her inability to thrive no matter what she eats- or how she supplements her diet.
Apparently her system is shutting down from their magical combination of everything-

Yet to have her take more infusions without first investigating the cause of her iron loss, seems a bit of a reach.
If she'd had no reactions the first time around, I might feel differently.
And while I understand the need for speed, I do not understand why not investigate and define until after she has done another 6 weeks. Something inside me is screaming that this is wrong- and my intuition has never been wrong.

Those side effects? Here- just to name a few!

...elemental iron doses of 125 mg/kg, 78.8 mg/kg, 62.5 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg caused deaths to mice, rats, rabbits, and dogs respectively.
The major symptoms of acute toxicity were decreased activity, staggering, ataxia, increases in the respiratory rate, tremor, and convulsions. Individual doses exceeding 125 mg may be associated with a higher incidence and/or severity of adverse events based on information from postmarketing spontaneous reports.
{Some} adverse events included hypotension, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, dyspnea, urticaria, chest pain, paresthesia, and peripheral swelling
.
* For a more complete list- CLICK HERE.

Casey and I were talking the other day- She had mentioned about a friend who blanketed her dog, and found that silly.
When I wake up, Punk will take over where ever I slept. For some silly reason she loves my pillow, (even though I would imagine it smells like 'morning breath' once my head leaves it)...
Her head hits that pillow-
As I return to the room in a few minutes, she looks at me- (Those puppy dog eyes).
I throw the blanket over her -and all is well.
She doesn't need it.
She sure wants it though...

On the couch
Punk- early morning...

Later yesterday morning as I'd gotten out of the shower and had emerged to get clothing, I damn near tripped over her!
She had dragged that darn blanket all the way through the house- (How she made it around the ironing board without a disaster is beyond me)!

By the door
"ARF!"  Did I do something wrong?   "I'm not in trouble, am I?"

Of course she wasn't in trouble- It's just too funny to see!

Yesterday afternoon she had to go outside. It was rainy and cold- Chilly in the house even. As she came back in, she laid in the living room.

But first...

In the living room too
She had to find that darn little blanket! hehehe

I woke this morning to thunder and lightning. Weird for September, and the wind too!
From my weather report on here was this "A LARGE AREA OF RAIN WITH SOME EMBEDDED THUNDERSTORMS CONTINUED TO ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTHERN WISCONSIN EARLY THIS MORNING. AT 300AM...MODERATE TO OCCASIONALLY HEAVY RAIN WAS OCCURRING"  2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN FELL IN NORTH-CENTRAL WISCONSIN...AND ADDITIONAL RAINFALLS IN THIS AREA WILL BE LIGHT. CENTRAL THROUGH NORTHEAST WISCONSIN RECEIVED 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAIN THUS FAR...AND ANOTHER HALF INCH OR SO IS EXPECTED IN THESE AREAS.
PLAN ON A SLOWER THAN NORMAL TRIP. IF YOU ENCOUNTER PONDED WATER ON THE ROADWAY OR IN A PARKING LOT...
NEVER DRIVE YOUR CAR INTO WATER OF UNKNOWN DEPTH."

Always they have to remind people not to drive through flooded areas? Why is that?
Why do people have to be told this over and over again?  Methinks if you are 'st00pid' enough to try driving through a new 'lake' on the street then you deserve to be stranded in the middle of the street for a while.
It's almost as brilliant of their need to tell people to slow down in fog, or snow.
When did common sense turn to rocket science? What did I miss?

Oh!!!!  must close quickly- no proofreading today.
Casey has just texted me and has a blood clot in her arm. Is this psrt of being anemic?
Greg is bringing her to the hospital. I will meet her there

XOXO

Wanna Go For a Walk?

Good Morning All!
Chilly today- Highs to be in the 60's for the next week or so. Lows in the 40's. Brrr... (but just a little "brrr" -as I adjust to the change in weather).
Crap, Winter is coming....

Before resting to watch that great Packer game with Casey on Sunday, I had made 3 separate trips around the fields...
When the sun was high, I brought the camera along too-

I noted more damage by our deer herd.

This first picture is of my own squash plants...

Deer damage

A pretty close, straight, cut.
(Those darned deer must have some really sharp teeth this year)! hehehe

Further in back now, more deer damage.
Look at all the missing and broken corn stalks!

Venison Damage to Corn
Darn deer-
They eat the young plants while the stalks are short, and succulent. As the stalks get taller the deer just walk all over them-
I suppose in pursuit of a 'yummier' stalk up the way.

But then came the stark realization that I was witnessing things I had never seen before!

I took these first two pictures way back by the woods...

Melon

After seeing that, I saw this one as well.

Melon
WTH???
I did not do that to those poor melons!
Now I know we are really in BiG TROUBLE here

Because it sure looks to me like the dang deer have knives now! hehehe
So much for having sharp teeth...

The field hands have already removed about 5 or 6 loads of cabbages-
And there are pumpkins growing throughout those cabbage plants-

Pumpkin
hehehe   I will have to steal this one just for me!

But no matter how well those pumpkins have come up on their own this year, the harvest will never equal Blazers... (Right down the road a bit).

Pumpkins at Blazers
This represents maybe 1/10th of what was there. (And, they harvest more every day)!

Along with a wagon~load of gourds too!

Wagon Load of Gourds
These too, are harvested on a fairly regular schedule...

But I digress...
...Back to our walk-

Below is just a bunch of weeds and cabbage-

Goldenrod across the field
With a bit of goldenrod in the background- I thought it pretty!

Punk goes straight to my old "climbing tree"-  She seems to love this tree almost as much I do!

Punk- Posing
Then she poses pretty for the camera!  Such a ham!   hehehe

My dryer is calling me once again, so I'd better close for now-
Just thought I would share one of my daily ventures with everyone!
And after that, I am going to rest a while.

Here's hoping all is well in your little corner of the world.

XOXO
Me

PS
Top photo is for those of us in Wisconsin, (among a few other states), that are holding their primaries today.
Go do it!

Casey- Hanging In.

We have heard from one of Casey's doctors-

Her iron level is not where it should be after her 6 infusions, (although it is a decimal point, or two, above what it was in May before she'd begun those infusions). At that point,
her iron was less than 4% of what is normal.
Those infusions alone damn near killed her.
The headaches she has experienced afterward- and the pain along her mid~right side is ever increasing too.  Grrrrr....

Her GP, (general practitioner) will be contacting the hematologist/oncologist, and I hope Dr. Sutherland as well. (She would much rather be in Minnesota. I know how much she trusts Dr. Sutherland). But those 3, talking to each other, are a good team.
They expect to know more by tonight or tomorrow.

Offered as one possibility is that she might have an intestinal bleed somewhere along the line. Which of course means more surgery-
I hope Dr. Sutherland might be able to do this also, (if it comes down to it).

The rest of her tests are not back yet.

She is still very much looking forward to starting school once more- her vet tech courses, this Fall. Time will tell.
As always, her health is vastly more important than either the sciences, or the mathematics, which she loves so much-

There are times I think this is just as hard on me, mentally- than on her, physically.
How selfish of me to feel that way! My apologies.
Does that somehow make sense to you?

Casey has more resolute Faith, and class, in her little finger than most of us have in our entire lives! She is honorable; accepting and always strong, taking most everything in stride- (Even/especially when she can barely stand or walk herself). While I know that is exactly what his best for her psyche, there are times that I don't muster "the right stuff" to be so damned brave. (Yes. I always find it; especially as I reach for it).
I know at times I lack much- God only knows that I don't measure up to her own level of courage.

Yet, from the sidelines, (even as her mother), I can only imagine how she feels- and what she is going through.
I am there, HERE, anywhere, for her -always.

Sue and Glenn came for the fruits and veggies for their deer yesterday- I swear they were angels- their timing was so perfect. I was just hanging up from speaking to Casey when they had arrived.

I will post numbers etc as those results become available to us.
I will also update here what the doctors say.

Love to all.

XOXO

The Realities, The Truth, and the Historical Significance of P51

Good Morning-
I have been reading with heightened interest, all of the opinions on the proposed "Community Center" in New York City.

I read this, this morning on Heidi's blog

I searched and found the original link online-

Most of your opinions have been "against" this proposed construction, on land that is owned by these people for many years.
I can only hope that, after you read this, you will be able to make a more highly intelligent and informed opinion...

*Please forward to as many people as you can!*

Off-Ramp commentator Marc Haefele lived in New York City for many years, so he wasn't shocked that Muslims wanted to build a community center, and perhaps a mosque, near Ground Zero. After all, he knew they'd been a major part of that neighborhood since -- are you sitting down? -- 1870.

The Return of Little Syria
By Marc Haefele

In all the discussions and arguments brought regarding the proposed P51 Islamic Community Center's proximity to the city of the World Trade Center in downtown New York, I'm astonished to see that one important historical fact hasn't turned up. It's about time that it did.

It's that the controversial cultural center (not a mosque, although it may include one) is close to another important historical site, obliterated when the WTC was begun in 1967.

It was Manhattan's old Arab District, which flourished for nearly a century.
Yes, much of the region the P51's denigrators defend as sacred American ground, was, from about 1870 on, the home of many thousands of Middle Eastern immigrants -- largely Muslim.

This was "Little Syria," both an Arab ghetto and a popular tourist zone, which the Los Angeles Herald proclaimed in April 11, 1909 as having "the mystery of the Orient upon it."

(Photo: "A man, wearing a fez, selling drinks from an ornate, portable, samovar-like dispenser in the Syrian Quarter of New York City." US Library of Congress.)

Little Syria was frequented by the humble and the celebrities--including actor John Barrymore, who loved to eat at a place he'd persuaded the owner to rename "The Sheik," after the Valentino film.
Other popular restaurants included "The Nile," "Little Egypt," and "Lebanon." The coffee houses were renowned for their dense, aromatic brews. In 1941, the New York Times reported Little Syrians as "friendly; they readily enter into conversation with the visitor, to talk about their native lands and customs."

(Photo: Syrian children playing in New York street. US Library of Congress.)

A 1905 Baltimore Sun reporter noted, "troops of black-haired, olive-skinned children play in the streets, and lithe, slender and generally pretty mothers gossip in the doorways; the fruit stalls, bakeries and groceries are stocked with many things unfamiliar to the American eye and palate." Little Syria was so important a part of the New York ethnic scene for so long that it now seems incredible it's so completely forgotten.

The district ran down the Lower West Side, along Washington Street south to what is now Battery Park City. Unfortunately, it flourished before poor neighborhoods had any  standing in urban planning. In 1940, the Brooklyn Battery tunnel erased much of it. By 1950, the West Side Highway (long since torn down) destroyed more of Little Syria.

When I showed up in the early 1960s, just a block or two remained--including Sahadi's market at 195 Washington Street, which had the best baklava and apricot leather in the city.  As well as some wonderfully crafted musical instruments -- ouds and hourglass drums. In 1967 it vanished under the WTC jackhammers -- even the original streets are now gone. The old businesses moved to Brooklyn or died. And I moved away too.

(Sahadi's today. Flikr/Rachael Ash.)

Now, in another century, the tragedy of 9-11 is offered as an excuse to refuse some 700,000 New York Muslems their right to observe and celebrate their faith where they please.

* Freedom of Religion means nothing, of course, if it only applies to religions everyone approves of.

But there's another reason for P51 to be built where it's planned. It's that the location is so close to New York's lost but once vital Islamic-Middle Eastern past ... which the new center for an emerging new Islamic population cannot but serve to commemorate and recall to us.

(Marc Haefele is a literary and cultural commentator for KPCC's Off-Ramp.)

Comments from the above article include:

# 1)
"Thank you for this! It needs to be part of the conversation, too. Even tho I don't believe that the "past life" of any particular piece of real estate gives any one group the right to claim it forever -- oh, let's say Jerusalem and the claims of Muslims, Jews and Christians -- Arab people from all over have been a part of cities in this hemisphere for a long time. They have just as much right to a place as any other of the emigrants and natives that make up this motley experiment of a country."

# 2)
"I cried on Sep.11,2001 and I cried after I read this article, both time I cried for the atrocities against humanity. I was in NYC on August 20,2010, nine years after the tragic incident of Sep. 11, I wanted to go to ground zero and pray for those who lost their lives and to see it for the first time with my in person. It shook me badly once again! It shook me even more when I saw those ignorant people who were demonstrating their freedom of speech, while asking to take away the right of Freedom of Religion of others. It was obvious that these people were ignorant about the history of little Syria. I stood right in front of those people between them and ground zero and looked in their eyes, with my head covered with hijab. I wanted them to see beyond my hijab that first and foremost I am a person too, and that it is my God given right to choose my belief and practice them, just like they do. I am not responsible for the Muslims who commit atrocities, just like I am not rewarded for other Muslim's good deeds.
I was saddened by the ignorance of those people who held the posters of " Islam is a cult"! Of what I ask?
Please do some research before you hold a poster like that. It only promotes more ignorance. This demonstration that I saw looked more like a political propaganda, not a 'freedom to speak' practice.
Love all hate none.

Is this irony, or just plain sad? Because there really is no difference, is there?

What's the point in all the fighting?

I believe that commenter is correct.  (Funny, that's what my "God" says too).

Intruder Alert! And a Visit To Gritters-

Casey, reading; at her 2nd doctor appointment,
Thursday-

Hi Everyone! Time for me to play a bit of ketchup again-
Wow! It's Sunday already!
Hard to think that so much time gets past me, and so quickly now too.
Still reading, and trying to keep up.
That doesn't work too well. hehehe
Please let me know if I have missed anything earth-shattering?

Got a kick out of Punk the other day-

Clearly she wasn't paying attention...

What'd'ya mean "turn around"?
Whatd'ya mean "turn around"?

HAHAHA That's funny!
HAHAHA! That IS funny!
(She also said to tell PeachieBaby that she is planning on writing a blog... soon)!

We have been busy, between doctor visits and all else.

I had to pick up Punk's allergy meds the other day- And as Suzy Q and hubby Glenn live close to Dr. Spires, we stopped there for a while...

Casey and Sue
CaseyAnne and Sue-
My apologies Gritter, I can't remember what you called your Mothers Day plant.
(I am still in love with it though)!

They took us out by their deer- Casey immediately fell in love with this little girl-

Casey Loving Deer
So sweet she is! (Both 'she's' that is)! hehehe

Glenn feeds her raspberry leaves...

Glenn and Deer

We had such a nice visit- taking them away from their chores for quite a while, but so great to see them both on their turf too!
hehehe
They have been here already to get apples and pears. More soon too.

Upon our returning home -to see the fields are being harvested!

And to note a certain invasion as well...

Cnv0375
This makes my mouth water!!!

The other morning, chilly, so all the windows had been closed as soon as I'd woke up, Punk began to growl.
Then a bark or two. (The bark she uses for her intruder alert)!

I'd thought that Sue and Glenn were here to pick up the apples and pears for their deer...
No truck, so I checked the yard. No company either.
But Punk sure was itching to get outside.

I checked the middle lawns...

Lo and behold!!!!

Cnv0355
How Punk 'heard' him is beyond me!

And that guy wasn't alone either...

Cnv0353

He'd brought the whole family!
hehehe

Cnv0357

One of them making his way up the old barngrade...

And OH, wouldn't they be good like this???

Cnv0359
hehehe
That is my rotisserie chicken.
Not one to shoot out of season-

Casey and I have been visiting duplexes and going to a few showings-
Some, (most) are not empty, so tough to go into other peoples things...  But that does not stop me from checking for water under the sinks, and below the tubs and toidies too.

Nice neighborhoods too...
So we will have to see a few more yet.

Cnv0362
Casey, making notes and writing down everything unique about each one of them.
We will see a few more next week too.

We have heard nothing about her latest blood test results- yet.
But will keep you all informed to what those tests tell us.

I have to run- Already I am channel hopping between football games...
My Packers play at 3:15 so Casey will be out then. And there will be NO further channel hopping then either!
hehehe

I have already done my wash, walked twice around the place, (up to almost 3 miles a day if/when my back and head permit). Happy to have the pedometer!

I picked some cantaloupe and squash-
Cantaloupe is pieced and in the fridge- Squash is on the oven. Smells yummy too!

My love to all.
Hope you are having a 'wunnaful' Sunday!

XOXO
Me

09/11/2010

The morning breaks rainy and chilled. Seems appropriate somehow.
I have a nasty headache and will go back to bed shortly

Before I sleep, here are my entries, my thoughts, of September 11th.

From 2007:
http://flintville.multiply.com/journal/item/46/911_Doing
From 2009:
http://flintville.multiply.com/journal/item/862/Car_Seats._Babies._And_Americans.

From yesterday:
"I remember the quiet too Mr Steve;
And the clear blue skies, as 3 of my children and I watched as only we saw but 2 sets of military planes fly over- and high they were- in a V-formation...

There were very few cars on the road- I live on a well traveled county highway

Seems to me that even the birds knew something was amiss for they ,too, were quieted. Perhaps by the worlds silence.
"

My peace to all.

Please check my 2 links above when you have time?

It is chilly today, but not that cold...

Nothing But Blasphemy! (Um, WHAT)?!

Mentally. Psychologically. Some people are just sick.
...And I am still not sure if the linked post above is religious or sexist, or both.
Please let me know.

...On a somewhat related note, I hope no one I know supports that Florida BS about burning the Q'uran.

Casey Medical History- Just for me and Casey

CaseyAnne's Medical History:
  • 1998 – Tonsillectomy
  • Dec 2000 – Appendectomy due to chronic appendicitis
  • Oct 2005 – Plerodesis with talc powder. Spontaneous pneumothorax on the right side, 20% collapsed. Did have one years earlier, but it was only 5% collapsed and it healed by itself.
  • April 2006 to Dec 2008 – Chronic Pancreatitis. Although Dr. Sutherland, who performed my Total Pancreatectomy with Auto-Islet Transplant (Dec 2008), believes that I’ve had it ever since I was young and having bouts of severe stomach problems. We had been told it was the flu or food poisoning and no blood tests were done at that age.
  • May 2006 – ERCP to check for pancreatic duct problems
  • July 2006 – Cholesysectomy due to crystals found in gall bladder during an ERCP
  • Sept 2006 – Partial lobectomy on right side due to another spontaneous pneumothorax. They found “blebs” to be the cause of the 60% collapse and removed that top part of my right lung
  • April 2007 – ERCP with manometry done. Found high pressure in pancreas.
  • Aug 2007 – Small bowel follow through done with barium
  • Aug 2007 – Exploratory laparoscopy done to look for endometriosis
  • Sept 2007 – Colonoscopy
  • April & August 2008 – EUS’s done
  • Dec 18th 2008 – Total Pancreatectomy with Auto-Islet cell Transplant (TP/AIT) done by Dr. Sutherland at Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Found the pancreas to be extremely deteriorated, but did yield many islet cells which were transplanted into my liver
  • April 2009 – Partial colectomy, removed over 80% of my colon due to toxic megacolon,
  • Jan 2010 – Antrectomy with Roux en Y Gastrojejunostomy. Antrectomy because of painful gastroparesis. Roux en y because of bile backing up from my small intestine into my stomach.
  • May-June 2010    Received a total of six weekly iron infusions

Casey... Not too much of an update.

picture taken in July

Hi All;
Computer is as wacky as ever- Casey says my hard drive will explode one of these days. hehehe
(Gee, could be all of the pictures that slow it down)?

Just a little bit of a blog here this morning-
I'd waited to post.
Pick your favorite one here...  'No news is good news?' -or- 'Ignorance is bliss?'

Anyway- last night, finally, Casey called me and said she would go in today.
She is reluctant but wise.

She has two calls in to the clinic already. The first, before 8- was for the NP, and the 2nd for her doctor when her 1st call wasn't returned.

I just spoke to CaseyFace- SO tired she is, and is going to eat and lay down until she gets her call.
I would lie down a bit too, but if I do I will fall to sleep and never hear the phone. (Too bad she can't ring the smoke detector). hehehe

In the meanwhile I am wishing to thank everyone who is sending positive wishes, prayers, and smoke signals too.  Your many comments and checkbacks mean the world to me.
* Were it not for all of you, I would have gone crazy a long time ago.

Cousin Buttercup called after seeing my blog about Casey last night- (I didn't have any answers for her either, save that Casey had made up her mind to get checked out).

I also heard from my sister Barbara- As always to wish us well, to request updates and to make sure we knew she was praying hard for our Casey.

And a very special thank you to my Miss Kelli also- who stopped by to ask, bringing CocoBeans with her- and taking my mind off this mess.
Who could worry when these 2 dogs were having so much fun?!

I promise to post more as I know.
My love to all.

Me

Casey Very Ill

Just a short note all...

This is the first year, in all of my years, that there will be no annual Labor Day Picnic here. It was planned that last year would be the final, so this is not 'news'-
It is a good thing though because I will probably be bringing Casey to the hospital.
I will know more when she wakes up again, and lets me know.

Love to all. Be safe- and Happy Labor Day to everyone.

XOXO
Me
